I am thinking of attempting to relock the bootloader on my G5 plus xt1687 to give to my daughter. If I change my mind later on, is it possible to "re-unlock"? Would the key change and I would have to go to the unlock process the same way...(Motorola site, request key, etc)? Has anyone tried this?

No need to go through the whole process just use the key to unlock again. I have tried several times it worked without any issues.

Be aware, repeated locking and unlocking is NOT recommended... in previous Moto devices it has caused random bricking when done multiple times, might work fine for a hundred times, might brick the second time. Just be aware.

I have been trying to unlock my AT&T S4 and after trying several methods am having no luck. I tried the *#0011# and am unable to make any changes due to an update that I can't seem to get rid of. I purchased an unlock code from a reputable unlock site, (bought one from them previously for girlfriends AT&T S4 and it worked perfectly) the code for my phone won't work. They offered several troubleshooting steps, from various *# number combinations to factory resetting my phone. I did a hard wipe (holding down vol up, menu and power button) and that still didn't work. I am thinking maybe I could try flashing an earlier version of android? Does anyone have any suggestions that I could try? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
Update to Unlock issue
I have finally resolved my problem, after reading through many of your helpful posts on here, I decided to give Region lock away a shot. I tried to purchase from play but it kept declining it saying it was high risk and to try back in 24 hours, so I got it from here, rooted my phone, installed the lock away and sure enough, it unlocked the phone. I am going to leave this post up, even though no one replied yet, in case someone else has my same problem, maybe this can help.
1st off I've been on XDA for many years and this Sub-forum confuses the hell out of me. Threads are cluttered with talk over all the variants of the G4 which confused me on what I could do with my device. That being said here is my issue...
I just got a XT1625 G4 and proceeded to try to get the adds removed. Reading this thread. It failed so it said to unlock the bootloader via getting a key from Moto which they let me do and I am unlocked according to the boot screen warning and fastboot info reporting "flashing_unlocked".
I then ran the script again but the device was unable to boot and went straight into recovery with it reporting at the bottom "WE HAVE DETECTED AN ATTEMPT TO FLASH UNAUTHORIZED SW ON YOUR DEVICE. CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR ASSISTANCE." which I fixed by following this thread
Now reading more users say that this device can not have the bootloader unlocked (um mine is) and that amazon/moto have patched removing adds. Not sure what is true so I need some clarification.
Ideally I want to just flash a stock rom with no adds if possible and receive ota updates...can i?
OR remove the adds on the amz rom and get ots updates.
This phone is not for me so i dont want to have to fix it all the time. If this is not possible im going to send this amazon virus infected phone back....
I would honestly spring for the normal xt1625, you can even flash the nougat update on it since it's the xt1643 with a lower camera, no laser focus, and no fingerprint reader.
I got mine at best buy and did unlocks with no issues. It's definitely an Amazon thing. Like my old Moto g on Verizon I couldn't unlock.
Hi All,
I need urgent help please.
I upgraded my Nexus 6p to Oreo after I received Oreo update OTA. After the update last night, my phone is constantly in bootloop and not able to go beyond Google logo. My phone is not rooted. Even, entering into recovery mode is 1 out of 10 times. I have factory reset the phone but same issue persists. Also, the phone is OEM Flashing locked.
I will really appreciate urgent help.
Thanks!
Have you enabled Developer Options and OEM Unlocking? If yes, I suggest you to unlock your bootloader / download latest factory image / flash it.
If not, you may contact Google / Huawei (depending on where you bought it - if Google Store, maybe Google will exchange it for a Pixel XL).
EDIT - you may have this issue: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guide-fix-nexus-6p-bootloop-death-blod-t3640279

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately, I did not enable OEM Unlocking and my phone is out of warranty
In my country (India), Google is not replacing phones.

I know the feeling, I live in Brazil and I'm on my own, too.
Read the post I shared, there's some tips to boot it once and then you can enable OEM unlocking and try to perform the additional tweaks shared there. Since you don't have anything to lose, give it a try.

Hi all. I have been searching high and low for information on this specific question:
Will activating an unlocked Pixel 3a on Verizon disable the OEM Unlock and bootloader unlock capability?
I got a Verizon variant before I realized that there was not way to unlock the bootloader. Bummer. So, I returned it for an Unlocked version from Google, which I just received tonight. I breezed through the setup (without the SIM card) and noticed that OEM Unlock was disabled stating I needed to connect to the internet. So, I enabled WiFi and the OEM Unlock was then available. It would seem that I an now able to follow the unlocking procedure.
My goal is to unlock the bootloader and root, but do I have to do it immediately? My concern is that activating the phone with my Verizon SIM could:
1) Prevent unlocking the bootloader in the future if I don't unlock it before I activate with SIM (research seems to indicate that factory resets will undo disabling OEM Unlock if this can happen if I understand correctly)
2) Re-lock an unlocked bootloader - maybe this is not even possible?
I don't want to mess this up. All the info I am finding are discussions related to trying to unlock a Verizon variant and I cannot find good info on what happens to bootloader unlocking options on unlocked phones that are activated on Verizon. The only reason I may want to delay this process is because I dont have a lot of time at the moment and would rather not rush the bootloader unlock and root process. However, my HTC 10 is in bad shape and need a phone to get through the holidays. I was hoping that I could activate it on Verizon now, use it with its locked bootloader for a few weeks, and when things cool down after the holidays, implement the bootloader unlock and root.
If that is not advisable, what about unlocking the bootloader immediately (doesn't seem too hard and I have used ADB before), and activating without root. Then root later? Any possibility of concern #2?
Can OTA's re-lock a bootloader and prevent future unlocking?
I appreciate anyone's incite, experience, or links to the needed information for clearing this up. Thanks you!
I would advise you to unlock the bootloader asap. If you wait it will be a pain later because unlocking causes loss of data. If you don't care about that, wait as long as you like.
As far as Verizon is concerned, if the phone is unlocked, I don't see how they could possibly lock the bootloader. They may restrict your services but they can't touch the lock status of a device you purchased.

Hi to all.
I changed the unlock pattern of my Motorola G6 Plus (Evert). After that I forgot that change. I normally unlock the phone by fingerprint. Some long time later when I switched it off and on again it asked for the unlock pattern and I entered the void old pattern several times. Then I relized my mistake but could not remember the new pattern. So I tried to guess and did even more wrong entries. Now I think I remember most part of the new pattern, but 18 alternatives are left. I tried all of these but the device remains locked. The counter is at 170 invalid entries now. Does anyone know if the correct pattern will be accepted after so many false entries?
The Motorola helpdesk is not able to help. They don't answer that question clearly but tell me to change to fastboot mode and do a factory reset. Fastboot screen doesnt show up (is black) but fastboot is working. I tried to flash the stock rom from Motorola (without erasing the partition 'userdata') and got bootloader messages. No errors occured but the device is still locked.
Is there any way to bypass the lockscreen without loosing my data?

The one and only way needs an unlocked bootloader + an unencrypted data partition + TWRP. But in your case it's impossible. All you can do is to reset your device.
Dear WoKoschekk,
Thank you for the information.
I still have one question: If I enter the correct unlock pattern now, will it be accepted after so many false tries?
I think I already entered it correctly but I am not completely sure. So does it make sence to keep on trying?
Thank you for helping me.
