How many attempts to enter an unlock pattern will be accepted? - Moto G6 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi to all.
I changed the unlock pattern of my Motorola G6 Plus (Evert). After that I forgot that change. I normally unlock the phone by fingerprint. Some long time later when I switched it off and on again it asked for the unlock pattern and I entered the void old pattern several times. Then I relized my mistake but could not remember the new pattern. So I tried to guess and did even more wrong entries. Now I think I remember most part of the new pattern, but 18 alternatives are left. I tried all of these but the device remains locked. The counter is at 170 invalid entries now. Does anyone know if the correct pattern will be accepted after so many false entries?
The Motorola helpdesk is not able to help. They don't answer that question clearly but tell me to change to fastboot mode and do a factory reset. Fastboot screen doesnt show up (is black) but fastboot is working. I tried to flash the stock rom from Motorola (without erasing the partition 'userdata') and got bootloader messages. No errors occured but the device is still locked.
Is there any way to bypass the lockscreen without loosing my data?

The one and only way needs an unlocked bootloader + an unencrypted data partition + TWRP. But in your case it's impossible. All you can do is to reset your device.

Dear WoKoschekk,
Thank you for the information.
I still have one question: If I enter the correct unlock pattern now, will it be accepted after so many false tries?
I think I already entered it correctly but I am not completely sure. So does it make sence to keep on trying?
Thank you for helping me.

[Q] How to unlock the screen with fingerprint?

My Samsung S5 (SM-G900F, 4.4) device has a fingerprint scanner to unlock the screen. It was working perfectly, but now it only asks for the alternative password, but I forgot it. I tried on the Google webpage to lock my phone, I hoped that the password given there will be overwrite the alternative password on the phone, but it said, that it found the phone already locked, so no need to use the password. I don't want to do a factory reset if it possible, how could I get the fingerprint scanner to be an option again, or somehow unlock the screen and use my phone?
This happened to me today in the morning on my S5 mini with stock OS. At first I typed in the correct alternative password, but it was not recognized. Latter I successfully (?) changed password with "Lock" option on Android Device Manager, and it didn't help either...
At the end I did a factory reset and lost all my data
Is this a common bug? Should we report it somewhere or something?
After too many failed fingerprint attempts, it will only ask for the password
Maybe someone else has been trying to access your phone
Factory reset to regain access if you don't know your alternative password (Probably a good idea to write that down)

Yes, you are correct. I tested this again, and I think that, in the morning, I really used wrong password . And the first time I didn't notice the displayed info, about password already being set, on Android Device Manager site, when I tried to change the password.
Thanks for the replay

Guys, Do not encrypt your phone. Motorola dont have any resolution for this problem.
Infact their Engineer told there is no such option which enables pattern/password at the boot up (Can u believe it?). They have such ppl on their support.
My only options are:
1. Delete all data
2. Install custom recovery to access encrypted data. But i believe that will void my warranty.
If anybody has any other solution, please advise.
Solved it
Guys i have solved the issue
Saved my data too. no need for custom recovery.

phone crashed - Fingerprint deleted - 120 Minutes lock after wrong

Hi,
yesterday evening my redmi 3s (http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_487801.html) crashed while I used facebook App.
it restarted
i gave in sim-Pin
but normally i use fingerprnt to unlock the phone - this does not work any longer - I tried to unlock the phone with my formerly used pattern but it does not work. perhaps i don't remember. perhaps it is erased, too?
now i can try a pattern each 120 Minutes - then phone is locked if pattern is wrong.
Do you have any ideas how to fix this? this is really important because i do not want to make new rom to the phone.
thank you in andvance

Always you Turn ON or reboot the phone, you must (Yes or Yes) get Unlocked with the Pattern or Pin, the Fingerprint do not work until the phone is unlocked at leat one time.
If you do not remember the Pattern or Pin, you sould to do a factory reset from recovery or flash MIUI rom via fastboot.

Xiaomi Mi A1 stolen

Hi Guys,
my MOthers new Xiaomi MI A1 was stolen this week.
1. Now my Question, is it possible for the Thief to get on her Data?
Theroretically not, because the phone was on last official android update 7.1.1 (nov sec patch)
Phone was saved with a Fingerprint and PIN and ohone was encrypted.
2. Is it possible for the Thief to hard reset the phone via adb or fastboot to got a use for the phone (resell etc)
Thanks
Even if he would format it, the phone will ask to log into Google account of the user that was logged in before formatting. I doubt the thief is smart enough to bypass it.
1. did you enable "require pin/password for phone startup"? If yes, there is probably no way to decrypt the data without the PIN. If no, thief could unlock the bootloader (Xiaomi is the only phone I know which doesn't perform factory reset for this action) and use the default encryption password to mount the data partition in TWRP.
2. factory reset will trigger FRP, but it's probably quite easy to bypass it with a bit of patience.

Yes PIN was set on startup.
" If no, thief could unlock the bootloader (Xiaomi is the only phone I know which doesn't perform factory reset for this action) and use the default encryption password to mount the data partition in TWRP. "
How can he unlock the bootloader? I think he need DEV options and OEM unlock enabled, right?
Consider: There is no MIUI on the phone, its a Android One Phone.

You are right, I forgot about OEM unlock option (I enable it by default for all my devices). In this case, data should be safe.
My phone is unlocked but OEM Unlock was disabled in Developer Options... So I think is not a problem having that option disabled.

Try to erase using 'Google Find My Device' i think you can erase the phone using that, also you can know locations where the Device right now.
Just try, Good Luck :good:
Hit 'Thanks' if helped. ASAP
I am fairly certain there would be ways to circumvent the google account verification using fastboot commands and MiFlash. It takes some work and patience, but it should work.
However, as far as I know there are ways to get the IMEIs of the device blocked by carriers when reporting the device stolen. Not entirley sure what needs to be done to do this, but this would render the device useless for the thief.

Imei blocking is not really gonna help. It's too easy to change.
Yes there are ways around everything in this thread and tuts to do it are only a search away. Heck we host most of the tutorials right here.

Forgot Pattern

Trying to help out a family member. She setup a pattern on her phone and forgot it....
Google search returns "dr.fone" but when installed it only shows options till GS3 IIRC
Samsung find my mobile doesn't help as location is off
She has no backup and doesn't sync with Google Photos.
Any idea how to remove the pattern and retain the data?

i've read that there is a way to sideload other firmware, like in videos such as below (xda wont let me post video because i'm new), but search for "ALL SAMSUNG WITHOUT DATA LOST Remove Pin,Pattern,Password In FRP ON,OEM Mode Part 2 to Part 18"
anyone know how to do this for s8+ ?
I set a pattern and don't remember it, battery died so I couldn't use my fingerprint. phone is NOT attached to samsung account, so I am really in a bind here because I need to access it withOUT wiping
