[Theme] Orbalist (WAD2)

Hi guys, just to let you all know I have released a conceptual style theme I created in the Xperia thread.
Although the theme is for the Xperia it should work on any phone because the only resolution specific part is the wallpaper and I created this theme to give focus to the users wallpaper and not an included one.
The "Orbs" fit nicely on the screen of the Xperia 800x480 screen but you can always rearrange them or remove some to fit on a smaller screen which was why this theme was created this way.
Enjoy, and please f eel free to comment.

No Gingerbread CRT screen shutoff animation

I was slightly sad when I finally got my xoom yesterday and it didn't have the same screen shutoff animation that Gingerbread uses. I don't remember the xoom having the elastic bounce highly when scrolling to the top and bottom of lists either.
I suppose the two versions have such a split development that it wasn't included in honeycomb.
There you go! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991152
Thanks. Weird how I couldn't find it when I searched.

Sense scrolls smoother with Live Wallpaper... What?!

OK, now usually I've understood that sense runs at a lower frame rate when scrolling between home screens than GoLauncher or LauncherPro. Live wallpapers have only made things laggier with Sense, til today.
I downloaded the "ICS Phase Beam" LWP from the market and lowered the FPS settings to the absolute minimum (10fps animation, 10fps scrolling) and all of a sudden my sense scrolling has INCREASED in frame rate, delivering a smoother experience than I ever have gotten with a static wallpaper.
This has left me a bit confused as to why things would be smoother with an animated live wallpaper than a static image. Any ideas? Is there somehow a way we could create a "fake" live wallpaper with only a static image to increase Sense's fps? Or is it the fact that static wallpapers are large JPGs compared to this LWP procedurally generated shapes and colors, resulting in less data to be accessed at once or something to that effect?
Regardless, if you're on sense I definitely recommend checking out the phase beam LWP and turning down the FPS to see what I mean

I noticed this too

Optimized Rosie Launcher for Sense 3.6 ICS 02/07/13

Hey all, I've been putting together my own build of the new Thunderbolt ICS OTA and figured I'd share a few optimized Sense 3.6 Rosie launchers with those looking for a little less lag when it comes to scrolling home screens.
Below are 4 options, each successive zip a bit more optimized than the one above it. Flash whichever fits your fancy in your favorite recovery or just pull and replace the rosie.apk in your system folder.
1. rosie_original.zip: This is the original rosie.apk from the ICS OTA. No changes and is here in case you'd like to revert back.
2. rosie_optimized.zip: Slightly tweaked rosie.apk with optimized .pngs and zipaligned for a smaller footprint: 1.68 MB vs. original 3.59 MB.
3. rosie_supersmooth: Using method by XDA's hamdir to smooth scrolling home screens by flattening Sense widgets on other screens. Optimized pngs. Zipaligned.
4. rosie_ultrasmooth: Using method by XDA's hamdir to smooth scrolling home screens by flattening ALL Sense widgets. Optimized pngs. Zipaligned.
Explainer, per hamdir:
Super Smooth Rosie:
This will keep the 3D widgets in the initial screen you begin scrolling from and freeze/flattens all the other pages until you stop scrolling
It will satisfy those who don't want to completely lose the 3D widgets. There might still be a very slight frame rate drop during the initial 3D flip depending on the complexity of the widgets.
Ultra Smooth Rosie:
This mod goes even further by completely disabling 3D layered widgets by flattening and freezing all home screens during scroll. The home screens will still rotate in 3D space, only flattened.
Note: Some visual bugs might (rarely) occur with the rosie.apk's optimized with hamdir's method. With some limited testing I haven't come across them, but every-day use of the launcher might eventually come across one.
More info about the smoothness tweaks used can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302914. All thanks for hamdir's work on digging that tweak up.
I can't promise any significant improvements with your use of these apk's, but I believe they might be an improvement while we await custom roms and the all-powerful custom kernel. Hope it helps.
Is this a flashable zip or do we need to push the apk?

They are all flashable zips. Or you can pull out the apk and push it, if you'd like.

just flashed the ios animation, and i have a question

I found the animation when i was browsing the Gfan g2 forum(a chinese forum). i tried it on i9000, it worked. But as the i9000 is so laggy, and i couldnt see the effect on it accurately.
my only concern is if this animation will work on those custom apps? I compared my g2 with my iphone 5. they are both fast, g2 is fater . But iphone 5 is smoother. these two things are not necessarily contradicted. coz when i slide, g2 loads fast but there's a slight stuter, the reason i think is the animation. IOS has that effect that can cheat your eyes into believing it's smooth and fast.it slows down things a bit and during that time it has an animation involved.
But i don't know if that kinda animation is bulit in the system or the custom apps. If it's the former situation, then i will jump to a conclusion that the custom apps are calling the system animation default when users sliding ,pressing, tapping whatever they do within the apps. If so, after i flash the ios animation , will i have those animations when using those custom apps.(and i think those custom apps of android usually don't have animation themselves, few of them do ). on the other hand, if it's the latter one, then there's nothing i can do .
does anyone have any idea?
