Wi-Fi Problem - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi everyone, as I see/read some other people are having this issue with wi-fi that drops a few minutes after screen goes off no matter which settings you choose it will always drop (even if you choose "always on" in advanced settings); I decided to root, flash custom roms, etc also to see If this could solve the problem since I thought it was software-related but nothing changed.. Since I can solve this by using an app called Wi-Fi Keep Alive (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shantz.wifikeepalive&hl=it) my question is: if an app can solve this issue it shouldn't be software-related then? I mean, if this bug was hardware-related an app shouldn't change nothing right? So there may be a way to solve this by modifying something in system or wherever it should be to get rid of this annoying bug? I'm asking because the app does solve the problem but at the same devours battery.

Powering off on deepsleep

Hey guys,
Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search and didn't see anything.
A few weeks ago I noticed that my 2013 Flo was randomly powering down. I have noticed that this only occurs when the screen is shut down and it is allowed to go into deepsleep or hibernation as it will only occur after the screen has been off a few minutes. There is sometimes a series of four beeps after which the device powers down. If I turn on the screen after the beeps it comes up with the shutting down dialog as if I manually shut it down. I have tired to use various log recorders but all of them keep the system in wakelock and thus prevent this from happening.
I was wondering if anyone else has been having this issue, or know of any methods to debug this, and if it is a hardware issue thus meaning I should return my device or not.
Also: I am running PA 3.98 rather then stock but do not believe it to be caused by the rom.
There are some threads where people mention this happening because the "keep wi-fi on during sleep" setting not being checked as the root cause.
What's yours set to?

It was set to never. Just put it on always. I'll see if that fixes it. Thanks
This just happened again so I dont think that fixed it.
Sorry for bumping this but it still is happening and I think I have tried everything. Does anyone know a way to fix this or should I try and swap my device for a new one and hope that works?
Swap it IMO

My situation:\
-I'm connected to wifi
-I leave the area without turning wifi off, so I lose connection obviously
-When I'm in a new area and want to search for networks it finds nothing, and sometimes the settings app force closes
-It only fixes itself when it connects to a wifi I previously had a connection on.
What is this? It is driving me nuts! It is happening on every rom..
I've even went back to a factory image and did the cleanest rom install you could imagine, but the situation is still there..
if someone could help me out that would be great
Do you use Xposed or do you have any root apps that influence WiFi?

No I haven't got any apps that handle connections. It is really frustrating though when I'm in a new area and want wifi..
Any suggestions? Cause all I am being told is to flash a factory image and start over. Which is what I have done several times.
Can you get a logcat when this happens? I suspect that in your case it might be a hardware problem.

Mobile data keeps turning on

Hi there,
I've got a problem with mobile data on my i9505. It randomly keeps turning on every few hours.
Anyone experienced something like this? Or maybe there is a way to find in log, what causes it?
I checked which apps have permission to change network state. As there is plenty of it, I would rather avoid to freeze them one by one to find the one that I am looking for.
Any ideas?

WIFI turns on and off constantly

when turning my wifi off it seems it goes into some weird loop of turning on and off constantly by itself, it doesn't seem to be trying to connect just flipping the wifi switch on and off none stop.
noticed it because i had a huge battery daring overnight and while trying to fix it i saw the switch going off and on all the time.
when turning it back on it seems to connect normally .
did a network setting rest but it did nothing ...
I'm guessing a factory rest will fix the problem but I'm hoping to avoid such a overkill solution :crying:
does anyone else had this problem and can help me fix it?
thanx!

original samsung rom.
just happened (i have the device for a a while everything was fine) its the android system that drains the battery in the battery status.
when i leave the wifi on it stops and works fine ...
Have you turned off ''Keep Wifi During Sleep''? I know this can drain battery.
It's not so easy to troubleshoot on an orginal none rooted phone.
You can try clearing dalvik and cache.
Turn it off and then on holding power and vol down button, then clear cach/dalvik and restart.
Try uninstall update beaming service for samsung then restart
If still persistent try uninstall update microsoft onedrive and skype then restart, just in case
I found it after factory reset (forgot internal data backup :crying and update all apps, this problem occuring after the last 3 updates (beaming, onedrive, & skype) which more suspect beaming service update make that problem
Your not alone
You're not the only one who suffer from this exact problem, on Friday or Saturday the same problem started occurring with my phone too, WiFi turns on and off in a loop and huge battery drain!
I saw an increase of 6% of battery drain per hour, so I ended up on 9% total drain every hour. :crying:
I have original Samsung Rom and phone worked prefect until now, no settings or apps installed before this happened either.
What rom version are you guys on?
I'm having the same issue. However, I'm on PhoenixX Rom. Major battery killer and has only just started happening within the past few days.
Since my phone has been unplugged, 3 hours ago, looking at BetterBatteryStats, It is showing com.google.android.gms as having quite a LOT of wakeups. 40 per hour (everything else is about 2). Don't know if this is normal as I don't remember it before the Wifi issue.
Looking into what the wake ups are caused from, Location and heartbeat were the major culprits. So i have turned of WIFI scanning when not on and also the body sensors for Google Play. We shall see.

Easy fix. Just disable Wi-Fi scanning.

its not a fix at all . it dosnt scan for wifi , just turning it on and off non stop.
like pressing the light switch agin and agin
I had this after installing "GoodLock" software from Samsung! Uninstalled and everything is ok
same here, just noticed I wasnt on Wifi and the switch is just flicking on and off by itself. Standard S7 with all the updates installed
Been struggling with the same for some days (4 - 5) I haven't been able to get exactly whats triggering this. I'm on stock rom with root. I've reinstalled firmware clean again and re downloaded my apps but it is still happening randomly. Some times after a few attempts to switch wifi on (even when it is toggling by itself) it manages to keep on. Sometimes restarting makes it work again. One thing I'm almost certain its that this usually happens after I turn wifi OFF and then try to turn it back on.
It's been crazy and the phone starts to overheat after a while off this on-off loop.
Any ideas?
its very wierd it started to all of us in the past few days-weeks . seems like samsung has a bug they need to hurry up and fix.
AT&T just pushed out the October Security update for the S7 family, I'm guessing something that came along with it is creating the problem.
mine did a software update last week and I've been away in airplane mode so it could have started then. I've just disabled scanning and that seems to have got round the issue and I'm now connected to WifI
I'm not sure whether it is a Samsung Issue or a Third party one... It is true that something recently affected all of us, but as far as I know, it could be a third party app that wasn't well developed for our phone.
I've noticed the same problem on my phone and it's also only started up in the last few days. On stock Sammy rom, unrooted. Will be monitoring this thread to see if the experts here can narrow down the culprit.
I had the same issue and I was able to stop the toggle by turning off the wifi scanning in Location - Improve Accuracy - WiFi scanning. It's a fix for now. I think it may be an app that may have been updates that is persistently looking for location updates.

"Settings has stopped" and "Settings keeps stopping"

Hi, its my first time writing here, but not using this forum.
First of all, sorry if my english is not good enough.
I have a Nexus 6P stock, without root or anything. This week I installed Android 7.1.2 from google beta program, after that, I was having draining battery issue, so, I checked the battery usage and discover that the Wi-Fi never stop, then, after reading on some blogs about this problem and found that I should go to WiFi setting and disable some option in "keep wifi on sleep", however, when i click on setting key, always appear this messages "Settings has stopped" and "Settings keeps stopping". Things I did:
1) Disable Wi-Fi, try clicking on setting key - still the problem
2) Restart on safe mode - still the problem
3) clean the cache from recovery mode - still the problem
Any other suggestions without restoring the cell phone?
Thanks in advance

Hi... The gear icon force close... It's a bug in this beta version, nothing you should worry about.
However, I have no idea for your battery drain...

Have You tried with - Settings - Location - press the 3 dots - Scanning - And disableing everything there ?
So...if I can't access the wifi settings is there any way to disable the wifi optimization or otherwise prevent it from dropping a wifi connection that it detects has no internet?

Unfortunately the only thing that usually fixes that is a factory reset. And if that doesn't work it's a ROM issue. Even though it's a stock ROM it happens.
Your best bet is probably a factory reset at this point. Usually if Settings or another system app is crashing on Stock, something is pretty messed up. You could either opt out of the beta and it will wipe/downgrade for you, or you can download a factory image from Google and install it manually if you're so inclined.
I have the same issue on my s6 after it updated to Nougat. Settings crashes every time if I try to open wifi, no matter what. Already wiped system cache and started in safe mode, but the problem is still there. Has anybody figured out a solution to this?
Did you try what was suggested..... ?

I tried everything except factory reset, which I don't want to do yet.
I have this problem but I'm running Nougat on a stock "International" Samsung Galaxy S7.
I've tried factory resetting which fixed the issue for a while, but now it's come back.

I may have found a possible fix for this issue. Head over to this Android Central Thread where I've been discussing the issue with some other people.
Good luck!
