Facebook app suddenly built-in after recent update - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) Questions & Answers

Hey guys. I recently updated my phone, and to my surprise, Facebook was installed. I remember uninstalling it before applying the update. When I go into settings and check the version, it says "version stub". What does that mean? Also, "Uninstall" is no longer an option. Now, I can only "disable/enable" or "force stop" it. Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks for the reponses.

Only thing I could find was someone on Reddit asking about the same thing.
It's most likely a carrier push (probably Samsung including it in the update and carrier leaving it in, like when they include other bloatware when they make the OS).
You should be able to get rid of it with Root, if you don't use FB, it's probably going to make more sense to just delete any shortcuts and not touch it than to root though.

Yeah theyre system apps.
you can delete or freeze it if your rooted, not sure about a unrooted method tho.
There are actually 3 apks for FB for some reason
/system/app/Facebook_stub/
/system/app/FBAppManager_NS/
/system/priv-app/FBInstaller_NS/

How to update preinstalled apps?

If i check in the market to update the Youtube app, or Google maps, it says its not even installed because i didnt get it from the market but it came preinstalled.
So how would one go about updating these apps?

Works fine for me since day one.
If app that came with the phone matches the version on Market, it just says "Installed" without me installing it manually.
If Market version is higher, it says "Update" and lets me download an update and install it.
for me, if i search youtube or google maps it says "Install"..
I just installed the youtube app and now it appears to have installed over the one i had previously..
Same here. Installed FB, Twitter, YouTube etc and they installed over the pre-installed versions.

Yeah, that's normal too.
I found the same to be true. What I did to make sure I get any updates for what came pre-installed is I looked up each app in the Market, and if I found it, but it did not say "Installed", I installed it, so now all my apps are linked to the Market, and will get updated when needed. Otherwise you will be stuck with the version that came on the phone forever.
Same with me the pre installed apps dont seem to be recogni8zed as installed by the Market i have had to download facebook, youtube etc like other DHD users
For me, only Adobe Reader & Flash were not recognized. Manually installed Reader and I froze Flash with Titanium Backup so didn't update that one.
Titanium backup can on rooted devices, at least, integrate newer updates into the ROM via batch menu

I was noticing the same thing a moments ago...
so, can I safely install the update over the current?
Will this prevent to get any system update?
thank you in advance for the answers ( 1st time android user xD )

i installed it over the preinstalled ones and it works fine.
Im not too sure about this preventing system updates though. But i did notice that if you go into Settings>Applications>Manage Aplications then find the app there, there is an option to undo the update incase it blocks system updates.

It doesn't block system updates as updates to apps never touch system partition and OTA only checks system partition for consistency.

unless you use Titanium to integrate the updates into the ROM, I do this to keep things simple as I don't really like having two versions of the program on my device unneccesarily, but even in this case the system updates overwrite the /system partition anyway

Yes, integrating updates from Titanum Backup touches /system partition, but regular Market updates don't.
I've run into a bug with the new youtube app. If you have a video loading and let the screen come off. After unlocking it, the video lags a lot doesnt respond to touches. You can exit out of the app but then the audio of the video doesnt stop playing. No choice but to restart the phone. This happened to me twice this morning.
Do you guys think this is a bug with the youtube app or maybe the Desire HD because i recall the preintalled youtube app had a major bug as well on the DHD.

Samsung app updates

I think S Voice just updated to 11.4.0.2 but can find anywhere I can see for sure it did. I also cant find anywhere that has S Voice changelog. Anyone know if an update did come out and what was updated?
Also, I disabled a few installed apps like S Health but the samsung apps keeps updating and enabling. Does this mean its no use just disabling the apps?
S Voice is on 11.4.0.2 but it hasn't received an update for a little while now. That is the latest version though.
As for freezing/disabling apps, yes, when an update appears, you get a prompt to download. You have two choices:
1/ Download, install then disable again (until another update comes along and repeat the process)
2/ Uninstall the app via root and don't worry about it again.

cant reinstall Google Search

Hi, I've got a problem I cant fix.
I wanted to downgrade Google Search so I uninstalled updates and it went back to stock. I then installed the version I wanted. v3.1
Now, this is my problem. I DONT want it to show in Google Play as an update so I tried to make a updated APK like I have with many other apps where I like older versions.
Now I used Lucky Patcher and that didn't like making the modded APK but it did back a backup. So I clicked RESTORE BACKUP. and guess what? It deleted the app instead of restoring it.
Now when I try to install it from either any APK or even directly from Google Play it keeps saying the device is full and fails to install.
I have over 1GB free. I've deleted about 10 apps and still keeps saying device is full. I've reinstalled those 10 apps and they fit and install without problems and I still have over 1GB free.
HOW do i get Google Search reinstalled? I dont want to reflash it as I will loose ROOT and that was a big enough ***** to install the first time.
I have a stock recovery menu. Rooted Galaxy S4 i9505 4.3 official firmware.
I did delete delvik cache and the cache in recovery menu.
I cant find any other ways to restore it? I tried titanium backup with the backup I have of it but that never ends when I click restore. It doesn't finish, doesn't do anything just sits there saying its restoring but never stops still I kill it even after 30 mins it was still restoring.
Anyone??
I did try Titanium Backup and made a update.zip and that fails both from SDCARD and ADB as its not signed and its stock recovery.
Do I have to install a custom recovery? Can I use the one I used with 4.2.2 or do I have to get a 4.3 version? That was i9505-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.2-4.tar
Anyone?
I'm stumped. I dont have a clue whats going on and why it wont install and why its saying its full when its got 1GB free.

Thanks for the reply.
Was hoping not to do that.
BUT, everything still works without it anyway and as it stole the use of my Bluetooth button it wont be missed but I do like the Google Now alerts.
What happened with me was the latest few versions stole the link to the bluetooth button. Before when you pressed the button you had the option of S-Voice or Google Search and now the newer versions dont have that option and always use Google Search and you have no way to revert back to S-Voice. I had Google Search disabled for a while but I want to use Google Now so I need the app but not the new version so an old version works fine. I think the last is 3.1? I didn't try 3.2 but I know 3.4 has that forced Google Search now.

I got it installed and fixed a few other apps at the same time.
I went to root /data/data and found the google search was a 0kb file so I deleted it and it installed fine after that. I also had a few other apps that were playing up so I deleted those folders and they now install and work fine.
So in the end no need to reflash just remove the corrupt files and its all fixed.
I did find out Google Search 3.3 is the last of the good versions, 3.4 is when it steals your bluetooth's connection and uses it for its own without letting you choose default.
As S-Voice is a Samsung feature those not with a Samsung phone wont care but those like me that use S-Voice will be annoyed that the latest Google Search removes the choice. I recommend to disable so it goes back to default version then get v3.3 and install that and use an app to remove it from updating in Google Play then all will be good.
it's solved right?
but anyway maybe you could try to flash gapps . Don't now if it will works but i good to try anyway ;D

When uninstalling on stock, you only delete apk file. You have also to delete corresponding odex odex file in system/
Then, you have to remove also corresponding folder in system/data/data
Then, you can try to reinstall the app.

I fixed it. There was a corrupt file in /data/data and as soon as I deleted it, it finally installed fine after that.
Now trying to stop Google Play from upgrading and also removing it from the update list is another problem.

I do that and it doesn't work with Titanium Backup.
I want to remove it completely so it doesnt even see it in the Google play store.
In Titanium Backup you can remove it from Google Play but that option doesn't work as I've had it removed twice and its updated both times.
So far its working. I've turned it into a user app and removed it from the store and its not updated yet but I will give it till tomorrow and if it auto updated like the last 2 times I will just uninstall it again and not use it. Its more trouble than its worth anyway.

I want it installed, I want to use Google Now but I don't want to update to the bad version and I don't want Google Play to keep telling me there is an update so I want it removed from Google Play.
As I said Titanium Backup does have a "Detach from Market" option which does remove it but after a few hours it updates anyway so that option doesn't work.
When you make a custom APK it's not seen in the Market so that works but Google Search doesn't work when you customise the APK.

I've unticked that box so Google Search won't auto update but it's still in the update list and it still gives notifications that it needs to be updated.
It needs to be removed from Google Play, that's the only way to stop it from updating or asking to update and it's the only app I can't customise that I've tried. I've modded many apps and they work and they are removed from Google Play but this one I can't.
I also want other apps to auto update so I dont want to turn that option off.

YES YOU CAN.
Just install Market Fixer and that removed it. But it does sometimes show up after a reboot. I rebooted twice and it showed up the first time but not the 2nd time.
So it looks like I've fixed the problem.
Titanium Backup's 'Detach from Market' doesn't work but Market Fixer does the same thing and that does work.
The problem I think is its a system app, its used by my Google account, its used by half the system so its not easy to hide from the App Store. As other apps aren't used the same way they are easily hidden but Google Search isn't.

[Q] How to get rid of the update notification?

I understand that when you do an OTA update while rooted and/or have a custom recovery, it breaks the phone. As some of you may or may not know, Verizon has released a knew update to prepare for XLTE. I want to know how to get rid of this notification. Is there any way?

Yes, it's there and I disabled it but again, there is no update from AT&T so I can't verify that option works or not.
Maybe, freezing it using TB will add another layer of security? or maybe it's over-killed.

I don't see anything in Titanium that resembles anything from that list. I have a Verizon phone: and its very different.
I still very much would like someone who knows something about Verizon phones to help me!
I don't have Titanium, but I was able to freeze and eliminate the notification by Force Stoping System Update, clearing the Cache, then using ES File Explorer to rename /system/app/LGDMSClient.apk to LGDMSClient.apk.bak no more nag!

delete bloatware without root and without additional app

Hello guys
I just discovered a small trick on how to delete bloatware which came with the phone. Or I hope I discovered it. I have a G935F from a german carrier called o2. It has no root-rights and is stock. It came with various apps such as "hrs hotels", some o2 apps, an app to install a game called "Empire: Four Kingdoms" and so on...
I believe it was only possible to deactivate and not to deinstall these apps when I tried to deinstall them.
Fortunately I was able to deinstall with "My Files" from Samsung which is already installed on your phone. At the very bottom is written "Storage Usage". There you will find the window "User data". Click on "Detail" and now on "Apps". There you go....
Maybe you guys can check if I am right and you can deinstall this way apps you wasn't able to deinstall before. Unfortunately I already deinstalled all my bloatware and now I don't know if they really are only possible to deinstall this way.
Sometimes carrier bloat is installed in the data partition where they can be uninstalled. I think you'll find that Samsung apps and services cannot be uninstalled this way. That's because they reside in the system partition.

AT&T US version does not have access to details under Storage Usage. Thanks for the tip.
The US T-Mobile version does have it, but unfortunately it only shows the apps that I have installed, not any of the carrier bloatware.
