[Q] How to get rid of the update notification? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I understand that when you do an OTA update while rooted and/or have a custom recovery, it breaks the phone. As some of you may or may not know, Verizon has released a knew update to prepare for XLTE. I want to know how to get rid of this notification. Is there any way?

Yes, it's there and I disabled it but again, there is no update from AT&T so I can't verify that option works or not.
Maybe, freezing it using TB will add another layer of security? or maybe it's over-killed.

I don't see anything in Titanium that resembles anything from that list. I have a Verizon phone: and its very different.
I still very much would like someone who knows something about Verizon phones to help me!

I don't have Titanium, but I was able to freeze and eliminate the notification by Force Stoping System Update, clearing the Cache, then using ES File Explorer to rename /system/app/LGDMSClient.apk to LGDMSClient.apk.bak no more nag!

[Q] Disable OTA Notification?

Hi all,
I am stock, rooted, and have TWRP. I have done the following:
mak213 said:
heres the FIX it easier than redoing ur phone to stock just go to terminal command in twrp and type
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
then hit enter
type
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc
then hit enter and reboot.
EDIT: enjoy dont do the update also i wonder which OTA it is ?

I am still getting the OTA Notification (and at one point, I lost my mobile data).
I do have Root Explorer, and from what I have read, it sounds like I should just use Root Explorer to delete the contents of /cache/fota? I see the files that were downloaded from last night, but there are others that have older file dates. Will this eliminate the annoying notification?
Thanks!
I'm in the same boat. The dd commands will remove the files, but as soon as I reboot, the OTA package downloads again, hence the reason it seems the commands don't work (but they do). Basically we need to disable auto-updates and then re-run the dd commands from TWRP.
I just can't find where to disable auto-updates so I'm either blind, stupid, or very possibly both.
settings, General, about phone, rest is self explanatory

i too would love to know how to disable the OTA notification. It continues to pop up every time i turn on the screen. I hit back to get out of it but its quite annoying. There is no way to disable it from the phone settings. What app or process do we need to delete or freeze to fix kill this?
It should be as easy as changing a number or letter in the build.prop. If I could get screenshots of the build.prop of the updated and non updated I could write up a guide.

Don't see anything in Settings > General > About phone > Software update that will allow me to disable OTA notifications.
I did end up using Root Explorer to delete all the fota files in /cache/fota; restarted my phone and haven't had any notifications yet, though it sounds like it will automatically download again in the future (?)
Change permissions?
Seems like once the files in the cache/fota folder are deleted or renamed you could change the permissions on the folder (remove 'W') and thus not allow any files to be written there. True?
Did anyone tried to disable app updates application?

you don't have update center there in app drawer>settings>about phone>update center>software update?
When you open software updates, then there is a checkbox for automatic?
Switch that off and delete the current downloaded one. via the methods previously discussed. Then you should never get the prompt, unless you factory reset and its on by default again.

Ok, so it's not just me. I don't have "Update Center". Only option within About Phone is "Software update" which just checks for an update. I've got the Verizon LG G2 and am running 4.2.2 stock if that helps.
I've got a full backup and may just unroot, upgrade then reroot. Doesn't sound like I have a way of disabling. Changing permissions sounds a bit risky to me.
Just change the fingerprint in the build prop. Should say something like ...11a change the to the newest ...12b? And Verizon will think you are updated and stop pushing it to your phone.

Alright, I've got the notification to stop popping up for me on Verizon by freezing the Software Update app. Did it 30 minutes ago, rebooted and still no pop up. I tried searching for what to freeze as I knew there had to be something, but kept coming up with instructions for the GS4. I looked at what I thought was every combination but not Software Update (Update, Verizon, System, but not Software... dur dur).

well within software update you disable the automatic checking.... it's the same thing man, are you kidding me? you guys cannot be that dense
then delete the downloaded update and your set...
It won't check for an update anymore, and the deleted fota won't ask for installment anymore.

So... are you saying there's no hope for me disabling this stupid notification without rooting? I'm too chicken to root (please don't slap me) and from all the crappy reviews of Verizon's version of Kit Kat I don't want to "up"grade yet.

System Updates Missing in the settings

So I must of somehow disabled it or something when I first rooted my phone and don't remember. But I'm following JTidler guide on how to update and one of the steps is to take the ota update. But I can't take it since the System update button is missing under the System section of the settings. Anyone know how to get it back? I'm still on 4.4.2 if that means anything.
Update: I used the searched Software update using the settings search button and it shows up in the results. But when you click on it it just takes you back to the main screen of settings.
Maybe you can use Samsung Kies 3?, i update my s5 with it

Yeah looks like I did. I ran a script that someone made to remove all the bloatware and I just looked at the list and SDM was included. Looks like they put all the apps that were removed in a zip file to install everything back.
Edit. Just reinstalled it and I have that option again. Thanks for the help. I would have never known to look for SDM.

How to stop update from popping up?

Verizon released an update for my phone a few days ago. Being that I'm rooted I don't need the update, how can I stop it from popping up? I don't believe there is an option anywhere for it?
If memory serves correct, you'll have to either freeze or remove the stock system update apks (I think there are 2). And if the update has downloaded, just not installed, you'll also have to find the location it saved to and delete it. Then you won't have to worry about ever seeing it again...
You could start by unchecking 'Auto Update' under Settings > General > About Device > Software Update...

You can freeze or remove the apks with Titanium Backup, as for the location of the files, you'll have to do some research, as I'm not sure....

Because it's under Software Update. The option in About Phone (or About device, depending on your language setting) that's above Status and Legal Information.

Cannot re-enable apps that I've disabled.

I have a thing against having lots of apps in my app drawer that I never use. I always go through and disable ones that I won't need. Well, I disabled some of the ZTE apps like My Voice, and now I can't re-enable them. When I go to app info, it shows "disabled" on the list for the app, but when I tap it, there is an "enable" button that is grayed out.
I'd like to be able to do this without factory resetting the phone.
If you can get ADB running to connect the phone to the PC try this
adb shell pm list packages -d
adb shell pm unhide package.Name

Looks like you ran directly from terminal emulator. I'm not sure, but ADB shell might run under a different UID and have more permissions. This might have changed in MM, but you could use pm command to grand permission to Greenify package on non rooted devices
Was there ever a fix for this? I am running into the same issue and can't re-enable apps.

Are you sure about this? I have seen posts on ZTE board saying that apps can no longer be enabled/disabled with B27. With B20 you can at least do disabling (I am not sure about enabling).
some you can some you can't. you can disable ZTE browser, but can't disable ZTE calendar or ZTE messanger for instance.
For disabling apps, are you using a different launcher?
Launch the Stock Android launcher and disable apps through the app drawer - I've successfully disabled ZTE calendar and messenger on my device.
Re-enabling seems another problem altogether though..

That was something else that was changed.
On B20, if you disabled apps in Settings > Apps, sometimes you would not be able to re-enable them.
(What you're talking about) On B20, if you use the Stock Android theme, if you press and hold on an application icon, there's a "Disable" option at the top of the screen that you can drag the icon to. Using this method, you could disable apps that you couldn't via Settings > Apps, such as the ZTE Calendar and Messaging apps. However, this allowed you to disable things that could cause issues with the device, such as disabling Settings or the Dialer. If you disabled apps this way, you could not re-enable them via Settings > Apps.
On B27, you can still disable apps in Settings > Apps, and people haven't reported having issues re-enabling them.
On B27, the "Disable" option in the Stock Android theme has been removed. So while you're not able to disable some stock apps, you cannot accidentally disable something that could break the OS.

Thanks - hadn't noticed that difference with B27 till now.
However, I've disabled the stock clock, and can no longer re-enable it through the App settings.
There does appear to be another solution (I haven't tried it though) - from the App settings, if you select the 3 dot menu on the top right, the option to reset app preferences should re-enable apps (and reset other settings as well).

Delete firmware update notification (B161Full)

Hey guys,
I have a rooted phone with twrp and xposed. The problem is that I become since today notifications that a firmware update is available. I dont want to go through the rooting process again (since I am waiting for CM13 anyway). So how can I delete the notification? It is quite annoying. Thanks to all.

I already did this, but no root. I keep receiving the same pop page Updater.
And if I block the app Updater to acess Cell Phone and Storage I get the warning to enable Storage for Updater, it needs IMEI and IMSI to be able to update EVERYTIME I connect to a Wifi. Dont know what's worst.
Anyone knows how to block all of this?

Oh lord, I thought I was the only one having this stupid warning every time it switches on WIFI or back from plane mode.
What's the exact command to delete the update then? I saw the Tweak topic but it doesn't mention what to type as the package name to remove the update. I would say "updater", as simple as that ? But I won't do it unless I'm sure I'm not messing my smartphone.
Thanks

Hi
I found the update file on Archives, in a folder called HwUOC or something like this
thats what I did: deleted this folder then blocked all permissions on app updater
note this will only delete the downloaded file, but the warning keeps popping
