LED / Notification light not changing colour - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I just recently bought the OnePlus 5 and it has the options to change the LED colours based on one of four options (charging, charged, notifications, SMS alerts). If I change any of them, they still remain their default colour no matter what I do. The only time I got it to "work" is when I plug in my phone to charge, it briefly changes to orange or whatever colour I selected, then 2 seconds later I hear a "bloop" and it changes back to blue. No clue what's causing this, and I head on the OnePlus 3(t? maybe) that silent mode caused this issue, but I've tried all the modes to no avail.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks.

Hey there.
Those led colors are when you're charging the phone with a different charger or the dash charging is not working.
The blue led means that dash charging is taking place. If you will charge the phone with some other charger (which is not a dash charger), the led colors will work as you have defined.

Why would they add lights for sms notifications if they are only going to be applied if and only if you are charging your phone /and/ when it's not the dash charger? I would like notifications and sms texts to have whatever colour I set them to, not just when it's plugged in with a non-dash charger, that seems very situational.

No, I was talking about the battery charging led only. Rest all work fine here.
Messenger it is green, whatsapp it is grey, telegram it is blue. These are working fine for me.

I've set everything to orange. If I get a notification via facebook messenger, it still lights up green. All apps are turned on in the per app notification. Am I confused or is this not supposed to be case?

That would make sense if messenger were overriding it, I'll look into it as it's probably the most likely scenario. Thank you very much!

I'll give that a shot as well. Thanks.

Slightly off topic, but it's such a shame that the LED is quite dim to be honest.
My other half has the Galaxy S8+ and the LED is super bright and much larger.

battery problem....wont charge if 0%

ok, on my xda mini s, if i plug the charger in at 2% to 99% it charges fine
but, i let the battery go so dead that it wont charge. so i bought another one and it did the same
is there a software fix for this? can i charge the batteries another way? both are only 6 weeks old and charge fine in my mates mini s (one of the first ones) mine is only 6 weeks old
its now getting very annoying
thanks
What are you running? G3 or G4, IPL/SPL, ROM version??
hi mate
ipl 2.21.001
spl 2.21.001
gsm 0.2.07.10
os 2.21.4.1
so just to clarify, I think there needs to be a tiny amount of power the the device to power it enough to recognise the charger is plugged in
i have 2 batteries with 0% energy - none will charge. The 3rd battery charges fine if more then 1% is left before I stick the charger in
thanks
Actually my boss had the same problem with his 8125. He was running wi-fi & music and it killed the battery all the way dead. I don't think there's a fix. He had to buy a new battery.

Looks like mfrazzz has the answer!
wow, ok i am a nuby and you might not like the solution but, every time my battery runs out completely and i cant charge it, disconnect the charger trust me on this one, lick the top of the charger connect it back and at first it will show a red light leave it there for about 4 minutes, then disconnect it and connect it back and your battery will start chargin again. trust me on this one ive done it like 4 times.

HOW DID YOU FIGURE THAT OUT??? I mean, where you just sitting around thinking... Hmmm... I think I'll lick the top and stick it in.. hummm... I guess I'll leave it in for about 2 min... no... 3 min... oooo I think 4 min would be perfect.. then I'll unplug it and ummm... plug it back in!! Oh yeah!! That will do it!!!
Just kidding around!!!
wow, amazing stuff thanks
can i get an external charger/docker for the batteries?
do ALL these devices have the same problem or just the newer ones? my old one didnt do it (unless it still had some power in it)
Thanks
There is both a battery charger that you stick your battery in and a cradle that charges both your Wizard and also has a slot for a second battery. I couldn't find the single battery charger, but the dock can be found by searching for 8125 twin cradle.

Ok, on my 8125 with the battery oriented exactly how it sits in the phone, the + is the top most contact and the - is the bottom most contact.
Here's a pic of a battery I found and you can just make out the + (red) / - (black) on the pic.

Nook Color does not charge when in use

Ok so I got the Nook Color running exactly like I want it, rooted with custom rom and it is great however I have noticed something very odd. It DOES NOT charge when in use. I'm using the 1.9A supplied charger, and it's not doing anything except wifi on, brightness low and I just see my battery level dropping. It says it is charging, yet the number is droping.
Today I was making dinner at 30% battery. I turned off the screen, kept it plugged in and when I came back 30min later my battery was 25%. Sometimes it does charge, yesterday I did the same thing and was surprised it charged really fast.
It's confusing lol. Something I'm missing here?
Call 1-800-the nook and tell them you have a wonky charger. Do NOT mention anything about your custom rom. They should send you a new cable for free. I've had to replace mine too many times! Each one has been free.

Since this is a charging issue I will post in here. My nook charges fine, but even at 100% the light never turns green even after waiting 30-60 minutes after I notice it saying 100%.

I'd get it swapped. It's supposed to turn green, and it was B&N's decision to use a proprietary and delicate cable. I've read that any variation in the cable lighting indicates a wiring issue. I've swapped one myself.
I have the same issue but it's not the cable

I had/have the same symptoms you described but I found my issue wasn't caused by the cable (because I replaced it already) but rather it was an issue with the female receptor of the cable on the Nook Color itself. On my NC if the cable (when plugged in) is not at least perfectly evenly level with the NC it doesn't seem to connect correctly so that it either doesn't charge (or drains the battery) and sometimes the "n" on the tip doesn't ever turn green.
I discovered this as an issue with the internal recepter on the NC when I was transferring files on my PC from the NC. I noticed that when the cable's connector wasn't perfectly level or a bit higher than the angle of the NC the PC wouldn't see the device connected (it would blink in and out as I moved the connector where it was attached to the NC up and down a tiny bit).
Since my discovery (this is just on my NC - may not be the problem with your NC) I've been placing something beneath the charging cable just before it gets to the NC so that it's forcing the tip up at a slight angle. Now it charges fine every time I plug it in.

Typically, yes. It will display a lightning bolt inside the battery icon at the top right.
Are you using the factory charger?
If you are using a different charger, check the amperage rating on it and compare with the original charger. If it's lower than the original, it should still charge but more slowly (and it may not show a charging notification), slowly enough that if you're still using it while it's plugged in, it may still die faster than charging.

With the coloring & size of the text, it's nearly impossible to read this thing without taking a macro shot of it. So this is really a service to everyone looking for the factory specs, you're welcome.

[Q] Wireless Charging Problem

I bought a generic QI charger at DX and it worked well... once. The next day the phone was not recognizing the charger.
I really think that's a software issue because I tried a hard reset by flashing the original 4.4.2 stock rom image. it worked once and it stopped again. Then, I tried flashing stock again but it didn't work. Also, the charger seems to recognize that there is a device with wireless charging capacities but it turns off after 2 seconds.
Is there an activity or something that makes the system recognize the charger and start in fact charging? I searched a little bit but I can't find someone with the same issue
Have you moved the phone around on the charger? I have found out that the phone qi receiver is low on the phone and the transmitter is usually in the middle of the charger. That will give you the on/off back and forth.

Yes. I also searched the exact spot where the coil is located, it can't be. also, the charger recognizes de device
i had the same issue, it would detect then it would lose its connection, it comes down the the quality of charger, the magnetic pull is weak so it may drop after a few seconds, i ended up getting a better one,i dont exactly know why it droped even when the phone has not moved,
is your charger a small disc or a flat rectangle larger than the phone?

yeah, could be. I don't know, it's just weird that it worked once. It's a flat rectangle.

I noticed it has to be on perfectly, I have a small one and I'm noticing its difficult to get it to charge, it seems to tickle 90% of the time I'm thinking of opening it and do a few tests,
On mine it states, if the power is irregular the charger will disconnect and stop, intermittent etc, the light will display that, if the charger is not strong enough then It can do that aswell.
My qi is 1500mah output while my charger is 1200mah and its efficiency is 75%, so at 900mah its still fine for the nexus, I will test with a 2amp charger and hope it dosnt just make it hotter
Its anoying that this has not be a substitute to connecting it directly.

This is how mine is positioned. The SIM card slot on the side is aligned with the charger coil on the phone, so you can use it as reference. Also make sure you're using a charger with not less than 2000 mA. Also try a different phone to test the charger if you can, just to rule out your phone as the problem. Good luck

I turn the S5 off but it continues to draw power. Blue LED light stays on.

I've googled the interweb but couldn't find any mention of this problem.
I long press the power button and select "Power Off". The phone turns off but there's a faint blue LED light showing.
If I try to turn the phone back on after 1-2 days the battery is completely flat so turning the power off doesn't really turn it off. On my S3 I can turn the power off and turn it back on a few days later with the same battery charge left, but it seems the S5 continues to draw power even after it's turned off.
Anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to really turn the power off without pulling the battery?
I've had this problem with Android 5.0.

I've just got the stock apps on there. I won't install other apps or set this phone up as my regular until I can sort out this issue as I travel a bit and want a reliable phone to take with me.
I notice the blue LED doesn't show when the phone is on (screen is off). The blue LED only shows faintly when I power off the phone so I'm surprised that it's drawing power which makes the battery go flat.
It's a SM-G900F model running Android 5.0, it's the international model bought in Hong Kong.
Does anyone here have an S5 which they can power off and it will preserve battery life? Just a quick yes or no to this question will help me eliminate that it's a specific problem with my phone.

I should mention I found this phone in the bottom of a fresh water swimming hole. I took it home, dried it out and got the LCD fixed. Doesn't seem to be any other issues with it though.

Should have started with that. Now I'm 90% sure the problem is not software, but hardware as you said that you found it into the water hole (it's been there for quite some time). And the S5 is water RESISTANT, NOT water PROOF so my vote goes to the LED light being damaged somehow by the water. I bought mine brand new and when I turn it off, it stays off for good

Thanks for that comment, good to know that when you turn it off, it stays off and doesn't draw power. Yes I think you could be right about it being a hardware problem so I'll see if the guy can fix it. If he can't fix it, I'll sell it
