Full backup phone - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hey! I was asking if you guys know a good way to fully backup a phone (like cloning it).
I would try some ROM like PA and some other but I also want to be able to good back to the state I'm right now (fully configured, with all apps I need, and when restoring this backup I would like to have exact same app data, configuration, account, everything in fact).
I don't even know if it's possible x)
In all case, thanks for your answer

You shouldn't need to install ADB tools though, they come included on the additional partition OnePlus adds with drivers, just copy those files over to your PC

Adb already installed
Thanks for it mate. I'll do this tonight and cross my finger hoping it would work as I think

TWRP. If you are installing ROMs TWRP would already be there and all you would have to do is create a backup.

App data IS backed up by TWRP but anything you see in internal storage is NOT backed up by TWRP.

The way I do it is:
Titanium Backup for all user apps
An app called pairs for Bluetooth and WiFi backup and restore
Create a Nova backup for my home screen setup
Transfer any media (such as photos and music) to my PC
And then I go about flashing a new ROM/clean flashing my current ROM.
I do end up having to go through my ROM settings over again, as well as setting up system apps again, but it's not a huge deal to me.
This feels like the "cleanest" way to backup and restore, so it's a small price to pay! (For me at least lol)

Can you confirm that even chrome app data is being saved and restored? Eg: cookies
Thanks!

Not exactly. This is an alternative to another backup tool, nandroid, which is an image backup of your entire Android installation (not just apps and data like Tiranium). If you restore a nandroid everything is exactly the way you had it at the time you backed it up: settings, preferences, apps, data, etc.
this is like using clockworkmod but with out rebooting
So it backs up everything boot/ sys/ data/ cache/ like clockworkmod but no rebooting needed for lazy people like me lol

thanx for your reply.
this sounds perfect..
concerning our device, is the default backup stored on "sd card" folder?
they use the term external sd card.. makes me think and actual external storage location..
is it pretty much idiot proof.. no way to fubar?
thanx again.

I would actually recommend starting with a normal nandroid backup from your already-installed recovery, instead of using this alternative, first. That way you can get used to the normal way of doing things before changing it up with this. Both TWRP and CWM have the backup ability; just look for "backup" somewhere. The backup is saved on the mounted sdcard, inside /sdcard/clockworkmod. For the recovery method, unless you go in and delete your backups, it's pretty much idiot-proof. Just find the backup option in recovery, perhaps change a couple options like the file name, and hit backup.

OP's alternative allows you do do that very same backup without rebooting into recovery, so you can keep using the Touchpad while it does a backup.

[Q] titanium backup failed?

I have titanium backup set to sync the backup to my dropbox after it backs everything up. O have it set to do this automatically everyday at like 2am (my phone is not powered off) . I keep getting this error: com.sidhe interactive.sif.dr ? What does it mean. Also, does tb delete the backup it creates locally after uploading
It? If not how can I do this?
The backup is roughly 500mb and I have 50gb of storage

Why are you taking backups daily? You only really need to do it when changing ROMs

Yes, it backs up everything except /sdcard (as we see it, technically this is a mountpoint, but that's for another thread) but that isn't an issue as you can backup those using a plan old USB cable if you really need too.

I'm not sure how well this would work between ROMs but you can do an advanced restore and restore only the /data partition if I'm not mistaken. I reckon it would be quite dangerous seeing as this probably includes system settings so I wouldn't recommend it unless you were desperate. The best solution is to just use Titanium and only backup when you need to (i.e. switching ROMs) rather than every day. For other things, Google can automatically sync them or you can use other backup apps (e.g. messages).

[Q] Revert back to stock?

I have been rooted for a while, and have always had a custom ROM but I wanna try going stock using xposed. How would I flash the stock image? Do I just treat it exactly like a new ROM? Or do I have to do something special or different? I normally use Titanium, but I will make both a titanium backup and a nandroid backup if I do this. Thank you for any help.

Confused about nandroid backup

Ok I'm new to flashing roms and slightly confused about nandroid backup and my reasons are this I read that nandroid backup backs up everything apps included but can't reinstall them so for example say I have a fresh clean installed rom I then sync all my apps from play store and have it set up how I like it ,
Next I create a nandroid backup and with all the apps I have installed that backup is now 14 gb in size ,
Now if I ever need to restore my phone I have a huge 14 gab nandroid backup that can't even install the apps so wasting all that space ,
So to get apps installed I need to do a titanium backup of apps again a fair bit of space used but at least I can reinstall them so call me stupid or whatever but would it not be better to just have a copy of your rom image, gaps and vendor on your phone or usb otg together with your titanium apps update zip?
Am I total missing something ?

You're definitely totally missing something. The first mistake I think you're making is selecting too many of the checkboxes when creating a nandroid backup, it isn't fathomable for a backup to be 14GB in size when selecting the right options. You only need to select system, data, boot, and vendor. Make sure you leave all other boxes unchecked. The second mistake you're making is the belief that your apps aren't reinstalled when you restore a backup. When you create a backup (by selecting the four boxes I mention above) you create a snapshot of your operating system exactly the way it is when you make the backup. This means all of your apps, all of your settings, every single detail is preserved in this snapshot, so when you restore this backup at a later time it will boot up and be in the exact state that it was in when you created the backup, all of your apps will be installed just like they were previously. So there's no need to keep a Titanium backup of your apps for this specific purpose, but you should definitely have a Titanium backup of your apps for if/when you want to try a different ROM. I hope this all makes sense, if not please ask whatever questions you need to. Also check out my guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
It contains a lot of information you might find useful, including a section on nandroid backups (section 4).
Ok thanks very much for that , I've just cleaned cache out and uninstalled some apps no longer needed , in that huge backup file was the titanium apps backup folder I forgot to delete like a divy ?
I've just done a backup again and now a backup by twrp is 8921mb according to twrp does that sound about right ? I have loads of apps installed and tomtom go which is about 1gb with uk map installed ?

No that's still too high. It looks like you're backing up userdata too which is unnecessary. Do what I said and only back up system, data, boot, and vendor.
That's all I have backed up what you said system boot data and vendor ? Maybe I should just do a clean install of pure nexus then install my apps from titanium then create a nandroid and see what size it comes up with ?

Yeah enable contain and it'll reduce the size, you don't need to decompress, TWRP does it automatically.

You may want to pull your TiBu folder off to a PC just in case. Use a file manager to zip the entire TiBu folder and then move that one zip file to your PC just in case. That way when the fit hits the shan you can always restore apps later.

I unfortunately didn't have a backup at the time but do have one from a couple of weeks ago. I'm probably going to switch from Chads pa builds to dirty unicorns. If you don't mind, what rom do you use? Thanks for the help, I'm definitely going to get this sorted tomorrow.?
They may not be super recent, but you can batch restore all your apps whenever you load the new ROM. I was just suggesting you safeguard your TiBu backup folder. You may also know you can schedule a backup to run on a schedule so you don't even have to think about it. I use a one week interval at 2:00am. I run stock 7.1.2 ROM, rooted with EX Kernel on my phone and LOS rooted and EX Kernel on my Nexus tablet.
