So I replaced the cracked digitizer on my HD2, and it was the most exhaustive repair ive ever been through in my entire life. However after I have replaced the digitizer and taken the phone apart a few times to properly seat things back together, the digitizer gets dust underneath it because the seal is not perfect.
In the disassemble directions you had to heat the phone up to 140 degrees for 5 minutes in order to sort of melt the glue that held the pieces together nice and tight, it was a black double sided gooey substance.
Since separation, some of that was lost and i'm looking for something similar to replicate it to create a proper seal for my hardware all around. Anyone have any ideas on what I can use? And unless you're dead serious, don't say gorilla glue, because I may need to service it again in the future.
Thanks!
How about a cheap hot glue gun?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Its an idea except i dont want the hot glue to expand too much when pressure is applied, and also its not something that will allow me to get back into it with heat at 140 degrees any other suggestions?
I'm thinking that a couple tiny dots of silicone will work. It's non-conductive, flexible and not permanent. I'm getting good at tearing these apart, but like you they don't hold together once you wreck the glue.
One thing I did do was heat it up and press it AFTER the repair was done. I reheated it for 5 minutes with the hair dryer (I use a music stand to hold it so I can go get another beer - but 2 beers is my limit with these tiny parts).
I'm also going to try 3 layers of double-sided tape too, which is similar to what is in other phones. Or that stuff from the back of credit cards. Oh, that's probably rubber cement. I'll try that too
As you can see I'm still working it out too.
Everything works fine (except for the camera focus, which I can live with since everything is in focus always as it is because it shoots at like f/8). What's weird is that it has survived so many other falls onto concrete, and this just happens now.
I really need to replace the glass as soon as possible. It looks pretty unprofessional cracked like this.. I am out of warranty (bought the phone in September 2010 from T-Mobile), and T-Mobile no longer has any G2s .
I've looked through a few people who have mentioned replacing their front glass, and would like to do so myself. Anyone have advice regarding how I could do this?

less than $20 for new digitizer, takes 30min -- leave yourself an hour if your new to this
Sweet thanks! Looking forward to getting this done. Will keep this thread updated.
Ordered it from the website. Hopefully will get it soon.

I highly advise AGAINST super glue for securing the digitizer.

Okay - what would you recommend instead?
the glue that is on your phone now will sufice. when heat it up with hair dryer (be carefull if you use a heat gun) most of it will stay along the frame of your phone. just keep it warm and quickly put new digitizer back. have done it twice now with g2s and countless times with g1s and no dust has ever seeped in.
but with g1s i often replaced the casing as well. here i would use 3m double sided tape that worked very well. if you are also replacing the case or for some reason dont feel the glue is enough use this
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I recommend 2mm 3M adhesive tape. I have used it for the 3 g2s I own and it holds darn well. Its less then 5 bucks on amazon and you will have quite a bit of it. Dont use glue. I always take off that old black tape.

The tape doesn't make the digitizer bulge away from the surface at all? I feel like it would. I'll give that link a buy though, just in case.
the tape he and i is refuring to is thinner than paper, i have not needed it for a g2 before but only have done 2 digitizers on these so i cant say its never necessary unless you are replacing the case as well, but its cheap to have around and may be needed

No if you stack it right I had to stack three pieces of that tape to flush it. It does not move around if you tape in the right spots. Its very thin and almost invisible.
That is weird... I did the SAME thing last week lol! I busted it on the concrete too and everything. It scratched up the bezel pretty bad too. I had insurance so I ended up getting the MT4GS (aka HTC Doubleshot). I love how speedy it is but I REALLY miss the development here and the GREAT community here in the Desire Z/G2 sub forum As far as repairing/replacing the screen (the digitizer specifically), everyone here gave great advice. I used to repair phones for a number of years and we always used a sealant very similar to double sided tape that y'all were mentioning. It basically was foaming glue that acted similar to silicon or something. I agree that about not using super glue. Bad idea. Also be careful with the ribbon wires and watch a few videos prior to disassembly. There were a few tear down threads here I'd keep handy while repairing. Good luck to ya!
Make sure you are VERY careful when removing the lcd its very fragile. I reaced my digitizer easy and was careful and lcd got mrssed up ie no pic. Ordered a new lcd and it had not brightness control always dim waiting for new replacement now. Side note once new screen comes in I will be selling this phone if anyone is interested i have 3 of them only need 2

Son of gun. The last three screws I need to remove do NOT fit with the philips head screwdriver that was recommended. Now I get to scramble around with my phone in pieces trying to find a smaller philips head screwdriver. Awesome.
They are philips head, not torque screws. I checked and triple checked.
Anyone have any idea what to do here? I can't find smaller screwdrivers anywhere. Home depot has got nada.
Go out and buy a precision screwdriver set or maybe a eye glasses repair kit. Only the first 3 screws are torx T5. Also there is 7 of them tiny ones not 3. There is 3 on either side and one more under keyboard backstop

No it's the three screws across the back at this time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=u-dR8CHEGjY#t=251s).
They are smaller than all the others and I still cannot get them out. I cannot find an eye glasses repair kit or precision screwdriver set small enough.
http://www.repairsuniverse.com sent me the screwdrivers for the Inspire 4G. Pretty sure the digitizer is for the G2 but I'll have to check the screen sizes to make sure.
Update. Fry's elecronics had a repair kit for smartphones that fit the screws. Still working on it.

if you keep watching the video you will see that when he removes the sticky keyboard backstop there are three more identical size screws mirrored from the ones you are talking about right on edge of phone, and then when you remove that piece after you remove the screws there wiil be one more (this makes number 7 ) screw of the same size tiny. Also i dont think it is metioned in the video but when you go to remove the keyboard backstop (the shiny piece under the sticky strip ) use your safe pry tool to unlock the tabs from the edge and then you must slide the piece towards the center of the phone it does not just pry off there are tiny tabs holding one side down opposite of the screws ( edge of phone ) And as far as the screwdriver for eye glasses repair, is it you cant find one or it just does not work? You should be able to find one at any walgreens or equivalent drug store or pharmacy. You could also try a hobby shop they might have something that will work. I personally use quite a big screwdriver to disassemble you just need to make sure it has a sharp point at the tip of the star ( mine is a phillips number 00 ) Believe me once you get it apart once you will be that was so easy.
Sadly I broke my Phone screen, so I brought a replacement off the net
We all seen how to take apart the phone on youtube ...
But it dose not show how to take off the screen.
We'll I've done it . Once u complete the steps in the video..
Turn the phone screen side up and take the hair dryer to the screen and heat around the edge of the screen and use the sucker to lift the screen away from the phone chassis
This will lift away simular to the back case, the only difference is the glue is on the chassis and not on the screen
So now u lift the screen.
U will see cables runs into the back free them and the screen will lift clean away
Now ur ready for the new screen:
Heat up the edges again with the hair dryer and quickly run the cable through the chassis and sit the screen down at the same time -> pressing the down around the edges as the glue dryies to ensure the screen is securely in place
And once ur happy you can continue to to reassemble your phone...
NOTES:
BATTERY:When your taking the battery out becareful due to the foil around the battery tends to stretch and warp - and when u put the parts back together it can be seen while using the phone.
Vibrator motor: when taking the phone apart at the bottom the black long piece is the motor(on the right under the grey piece) it's connect to the screen so when u put it back together be sure connect it back up
New screen: Besure to heat up the chassis area well to ensure the screen stays in place, u now if it's done right when the phone is on, the back light should not escape at the edge of the screen.
END OF NOTES
dude send me your address, will send you my device when it is damaged !

1: the proximity sensor - seem to not working
2: the phone signal - was intermittent

I have now fixed the first issue - the screen was not fully in place(top right hand side where the noticeably light is #
FIX: heat up the area again and ensure its stuck down correctly and then it should be ok
Second:
When take the phone apart i broke the cable for the aerial - so please take care when taking the phone apart
Once side one the aerial is on the top half of the phone and you can see the connector and the cable runs down the right side of the phone
the other side is located and CONNECTED to the bottom section of the phone which you can not see the connecter is out of sight till this section is taken out so BE-CAREFUL

Have you manage to take the battery out at all ?
if not i would say take it out and bend it straight again be for placing it back into the phone(not 100% if this is good idea tho so you might need to order a replacement)
to take the battery out i done the following:
i used a flat head screwdriver carefully on the right side of the phone and gently lifted it up and scored the glue away bit by bit until it came free

no i tried to lift it only on the right...i ll bend it because if you bend a li-po battery it will continue to work properly i had a li-po that i used for soft-air that is smashed on the front but works properly (i know is dangerous but i am carefully)

Well Done
I used a double sided adhesive but it isn t so good because the heat (it lifted near the camera like all xperia z)so i don t know what to use...glue isn t good if you want to disassembly it again i ll probably use the same material that were in origin and heat resistant glue :/ but i ll never put it in water again
Why didn't you buy that 3m seal ( double adhesive ) special made for Xperia Z. Or is that what you have been using?

i didn t used that because i hadn t much time i can find this thing everywhere or i have to ship online?
Mostly online. Depends where you live. If you live in West Europe there's no problem finding it, or China, but elsewhere you have to order it online.
Thank you man. My old Xperia Z seen the light once more!
Obviously isn't no more waterproof but isn't a problem
(I found my screen and the back cover in UK online store)

It is not a easy task. But at least you are replacing the entire front panel and not just the glass itself.
Really good tutorial , need lot of tools , i find giving to huawei is far better.
But your video is really good.
Add this, If you can't find a heat gun, use a hair dryer
I won't take risk on my device .
Good tutorial , really helpful, thanks.
Anyone who's done this can confirm if you need new adhesive after you open the phone?
Dear XDA Members,
Has anyone succeeded in glass-only replacement of the LG G6 LCD? From my brief reading on the web, it was mentioned that using heat gun will not soften the LOCA below the glass. I am contemplating to try removing the glass using dry ice but i would appreciate some inputs and suggestion from our beloved xda members.
thanks,
Dental floss or thin metal wire.
Loads heat, 120C, 30-60 secs at a time, keep applying heat.
Take your time, to do it successfully and not crack the LCD or damage the digitiser, 2-3 hours.
Heat up LCD slide a playing card under, then dental floss and keep heating and slowly slide the floss back and fourth to cut the glue, apply heat every minute or so.
You will go through LOADS floss.
I run a phone repair shop and we use thin metal designed for this. its on eBay and Amazon cheap.

I went Bshundhara.....they said only glass changing is not a good idea.
Infact if i change my glass & there is a problem with the lcd they won't take the responsibility.
The suggest me to live with broken glass and apply a tempered glass on it or change the full display.
