I've never had a phone that was WiFi calling compatible on AT&T so I'm not 100% sure but it seems to be working. Under sim status it says WLAN instead of LTE.

Actually mine does the same thing. I never paid attention to see if it switched to HSPA when I made a call. Is there somewhere on your AT&T account that you have to add that feature too? I'm fairly new to AT&T so I wasn't sure. I know on Verizon you have to add that feature.
Neither wifi calling nor VoLTE is working on any carrier. When you place a call, it will fall back to 3G. The only way to stay LTE is to use Hangouts or an app similar

I have Premier and I manage our company plan, so I have the ability to switch online. You used to be able to do it online on regular accounts, but not sure now. Worst case, you call CS with an IMEI for an S7, S8 and have them switch it. Then put the SIM in the essential phone. You don't need the physical S7 or S8 device at all.

SIM from my S8. Just swapped it over and things are working fine.
PLease send screenshots of LTE+ while on a call. The IMEI's for Essential products are not recognized on the AT&T network. You will get LTE+ while on a call which is easily faked with most Android phones by the manufacturer, but when you goto use the internet with the wifi radio off, it will fallback. My brother is an engineer @ AT&T, and i've confirmed this to be the case. All but AT&T branded phones will work, and a handful of off brands by those same manufacturers.
See attached. On a call and playing a youtube video at the same time while showing LTE+ in the bar and no wifi indicator. I will also say that the speed was certainly at an lte level.
Now that is interesting. In your mobile settings, what do you have set for the protocol selection?

so it seems the trick is to use an imei that is part of their inventory?

I've seen some threads abound for people asking if the AT&T version works on T-Mobile and while it does there are some things that you should know before making that plunge even though you might be able to save $50.
First the good. If you've already done this that's fine. All bands for operation on T-mobile are on the AT&T variant. So no issues there. Don't feel like me making this thread means your device won't work.
If you're weighing what you lose in this scenario:
- You'll need to buy an unlock code, or at least find one, to switch it over. While these codes are cheap it's still chipping away at that small discount you got to buy the AT&T version instead of the TMO one.
- VoLTE support. While it's not enabled yet, it will come shortly and AT&T phones won't have the right radio and framework to make this work on TMO.
- QI Charging - in case you've been living under a rock in these forums, the AT&T model utilizes the basically non-existant powermat charging method and they have disabled the ability to use a QI wireless charger. Supposedly this is at the hardware level so this isn't something that can be fixed with a patch or custom ROM if true.
- No WiFi calling. Self explanatory. AT&T doesn't have/use this technology.
- locked bootloader. Now this may change over time with the amazing devs that we have but should you accidentally relock it or get a replacement phone because your old one got lost/broken you may have a newer bootloader than the one that could be bypassed previously. Better to just not deal with it.
Now for those looking to go the other way (TMO device on AT&T) that's fine. Just know that the tmo version is missing the 850mhz LTE band. Not that big a deal though as they don't really use that band much but it is a difference.
If anyone can think of anything else I missed feel free to chime in. Or if anyone has any general thoughts.

According to T-mo it's 20 cents/min to call international through WiFi. makes sense since the call has to be routed to cellular on the other side. I guess an exception would be if the recipient also has WiFi calling.

Hey guys, to all who are wondering... T-Mobile stores do have some stock of the blue Nexus 6 32gb today, didn't have an issue getting mine. I do have an account with a single line on T-Mobile that I do not use, so I used that account and paid for device in full ($650). Out of the box, it works great on Verizon. Voice quality is much better than Droid Turbo and iPhone 6+. Data speeds are strong (75mbps down & 30up) on LTE.
All I had to do to activate on Verizon was either let device self activate with Verizon SIM that takes about 5 minutes, or by going into Settings - More - Cellular and toggling Global mode.
The reason I made this thread is incase somebody who is like me and got tired of waiting for Google and Moto to have stock and wanted to purchase it via T-Mobile and use on another carrier. My friend works in a retail store and he said that even if you do not have an account with them, you can still buy you at full cost.
Does that mean its sim unlock?

Why would you do that? I have it set to LTE and it seems to keep onto an LTE signal longer compared to "Global" mode, which I would use if I was traveling overseas and inserted a local SIM into my device.
But wouldn't it lose signal if you leave lte coverage and drop to 3g? Since Verizon is CDMA.

Will the 6p get WiFi calling from T-Mobile? I've heard yes and no maybe someone will have a better answer
WiFi calling was confirmed by T-Mobile.
VoLTE on the other hand is still up in the air. At the moment, no. It wasn't certified. However T-Mobile said that they were working with Google to get it certified before it ships. Which would be fantastic, because if it gets certified for VoLTE, LTE band 12 will be activated, for better coverage.

Just read the thread you mentioned. The OP was never able to verify if the phone was on Band 12. VoLTE works on Band 2 and Band 4 with T-mobile on the 6P, but Band 12 is still unconfirmed.

It's awesome in places you don't have great cell service you can make calls over WiFi.
My old apartment didn't have service but I had internet so it was the only means I had to make calls. It's pretty self explanatory if you don't need it its not gonna make any difference to you.

People like myself would benefit from it, I don't have at home wifi and I pretty much use hotspot for everything. I use about 100 gigs a month with the T-Mobile $80 plan and the service in my house is not so great. As soon as I step outside though.. that's a different story. Most of the time I set my phone next to a window or something to even get decent service. But that's such a hassle. It would be nice to have a strong LTE signal inside my house. Definitely make my life a lot easier.. haha

Lol netflix and youtube adds up. You're not suppose to be able to tether more than I think 15 gigs with the $80 plan
but for some reason whenever I stream youtube or netflix or even play online on my PS4 it just counts as my regular data.
And even sometimes when I use the hotspot on my computer it doesn't actually count towards it. I think it might be because I use chrome.
But in my opinion why pay extra for home internet when I could have all in one with my phone.
I work in a cave. I rely on wifi calling. This was a huge letdown last year with the nexus 6. And I don't think band 12 will ever get me service in the caves. Ha
At least it came to the N6. Took them 4-5 months longer than they anticipated, but hey it laid the framework for the 6P to have it baked in.

With the 5X WiFi calling and VoLTE worked out of the box. Band 12 does not work yet but given the hardware supports it I imagine it will only require a software update one T-Mobile finishes the certification process.

I've read that as well... If you get into the options you just need to select LTE only under network type and texting should work.

It is a shared data plan for my company. The problem is CDMA_LESS provisioning. It seems some 6T IMEI numbers are not in the Verizon system which is probably the biggest problem.
Everything works except receiving sms. Sim came from Pixel 3 XL.
Have rebooted, factory reset, cleared app cache as well as cache in recovery. Sim works fine back in Pixel 3. Chat was no help.
We already have a thread with same topic: Feeling about the 6t on Verizon?
Please continue your discussion there. Thanks.
