Anyone experienced enough with Android to be able to help me out?
The v20 (used to own a lg g5 that had these settings too) has menu settings to enable voice notifications for calls and texts. I cannot get them to work even when enabled.
not sure why.
I have, since the samsung galaxy nexus, been using an app called Enhanced SMS & Caller ID (eCID) inorder to have this function, however I would like to use the OS version. if the os can do it, why use an app?
The function is located in settings under the sound page at the bottom called Message/Call Voice Notifications
am I missing something?
I have call info and messages sender info enabled. Reading the content of the messages though is disabled.

I'm trying to make an app through which I can send remote commands to my phone via SMS from another phone. I want the program to detect when an SMS comes from a specific number and intercept it, i.e. preventing the Messaging app from ever detecting it and showing it in the Inbox.
Would this be possible without turning off notifications for the default messaging app and if does anyone know of any example source code?
Thanks

From what I recall there is no way to cancel the intent from being sent to other recievers, but you can adjust the priority yours is called in relation to others using the priority attribute. Set your reviever to run after the text message activitiy's receiver (use priority -1), and identify/delete the message using the text message content provider.
I think that's right, I am out right now and can't research it.
I am putting this idea out there in case anyone would be willing to develop the app. Originally I got the idea from the XBMC Remote. It has the following features:
On incoming call, display who's calling on TV screen and pause video until call is over
On incoming message, display on TV screen
This shows that it is perfectly possible to output the information. Now if we could only get similar functionality to the pc. Having your call information or texts displayed as either notification popups and/or within an app that lists all calls and txts.
We could even take it a step further by including the functionality found in google voice and other pc sms apps to give the ability to respond to txts, or answer and initiate calls to the phone.
All in all, on the user end they could be able to control all this by the use of:
Popup notifications
Small task bar with shortcuts to each option, a count of unread messages, and current phone status (ie in call etc).
A full fledged application to control all of the above, as well as view a full contact list, message history, call history, and anything else we can get the phone to output.
Hi. I'm using superclean 2.4 voodoo and am using Google Voice for voicemail. I turned off the text notification option in its settings, but I still get text/transcripts every time I get a voicemail and it's extremely annoying for me. I just want a regular voicemail notification icon in the notification bar and that's it. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? Thanks in advance.
I believe I figured it out. Regardless of what the app settings are, it was turned on within Google Voice on the website for my account under Settings/Voicemail tab under "Voicemail Notifications" where it was checked on. I still believe the app is buggy since even when I delete voicemails via the app, say in the Spam folder or Trash folder, they don't go away - I have to login to the website to do that. So just a heads up for anyone who runs into any these problems.
Hi, I believe since nougat update I Only have the notification telling me that I missed a call on my lockscreen, but not the name of the caller. This was definitely on there before. Which setting is it to show that again? I figured it could be some kind of security setting, privacy wise to hide the id of the caller on lock screen but I couldn't find anything like that in settings. Anybody have an idea? Thanks!
Maybe: if you go Settings - Notifications - Advanced - Show System apps - Phone you can select what is shown on lockscreen.
No that's not it. Under device Security, notifications on lock screen, show content is active. And I also see like text previews from WhatsApp. But when someone calls it only says missed call.
I have a Fi eSim and Verizon physical. Both work as designed except for voicemail notification and missed calls. This is on either DSDS line. I can receive calls, pick up voicemail but it won't notify me in the status bar or anywhere else. I've tried pretty much everything out there. Is this a known issue or am I missing something simple?
So I figured out that when I have my esim on Fi and VZW physical sim I don't get VZW vm notifications. If I erase my esim then notifications come thru. Anyone confirm or solution?
edit: Since everyone is so concerned with this issue I'll post the solution. There are a bunch of different notification options in the various programs like Messages and Phone. I was wondering how to change the notification sound in Messages without changing system notification. I was pointed to where you can do that and thought... hmm let me check the phone app. And there was a secondary notification option in the voicemail tab that said "Pop on screen when device is unlocked.. show as a banner on top of screen" That was unticked and when I enabled it the voicemails show up on the notification bar. I'm not sure if it's the default with a single sim but I'm not messing with it any longer.
