Hey guys! I have avast! anti-theft and virus installed on my s7. I was on a road trip and out of no where my phone started alarming saying that it was lost or stolen. The avast! anti-theft lock screen is displaying and my avast! pin won't unlock it. I tried disabling it from the avast! website but it still wouldn't work. I put in a ticket with avast! but since I didn't have the pro version they cannot help. So pretty much I'm locked out of the phone. I can get to the regular lock screen and phone dialer, but if I try to go to notifications and then click on settings it won't allow it. Is there any way I can reset with Odin? I can't power it off so I don't know how to get to safe-mode or anything like that. ANY help will be appreciated.

power + volume down + home . hold them for about ten seconds......be careful at next menu you see....don't format your phone
you will see safe mode listed
If safe mode is able to disable Avast! anyway, possible it won't being a security software but worth a try:
Turn on and use safe mode
Safe mode allows you to turn on the device with third-party apps disabled. Then you can easily unistall apps that may be causing a conflict or software problem.
Turn the device off.
Press and hold the Power key past the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge screen.
When "SAMSUNG" appears on the screen, release the Power key.
Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
Uninstall apps that are causing a problem.
Turn off safe mode
Press and hold the Power key.
Tap Restart.
---
Otherwise boot into recovery (Volume Up & Home & Power) and factory reset (Will wipe everything from the phone)

Hello all,
I am new to the forums but I have been using the HTC Touch for a few months now, and would like some guidance about a few problems i'm having. First off, I am using the official 6.1 rom with sprint....
I am running S2U2 and am having a problem with my phone turning off while in my pocket. It seems the power off menu can be brought up if you hold the power button, even if S2U2 is running. This is very frustrating, is there anyway to lock the power button when S2U2 is running, or any other option?
Is there any edits that can be done to make S2U2 call the factory device lock? I couldnt find anything related to the lock in the registry. If there is, is there anyway to assign the factory device lock to the power button, so that when you blank the screen it auto-locks? I love this feature with s2u2, and with stock device lock it takes 3 buttons to do this...
Thanks!

The only thing that I could suggest that might help is to get yourself a good case for your phone that would protect the button from being accidentally pushed. I have never had this problem with my phone. The button actually has to be pressed and held to bring up the power off menu. Even when not in it's case, I have never had this happen; however, the phone is only out of it's case, when I am using it. In the case, there is even less chance of powering off the device.
Rod.
The default device lock works just like S2U2, as it leaves only the power button unlocked. If you locked all buttons, how would you turn your phone back on??

The problem i'm having is that the phone actually powers off while in my pocket somehow....what i'm saying is that the phone not only "wakes up" from the standby mode, but also calls the shut down window and you can press the "yes its ok to shut down" button while s2u2 is running, something the stock device lock will not do.
It would be really nice if there was a slide type lock that was based off the code of the stock device lock.
Thanks for the replys
Find what the application is that launches when pressing the button and add it to the S2U exclusions list.
I have a verizon and my power button toggles screen off and on, so im not entirely sure, Is this a stock popup or a program you installed ? There is probably a registry entry somewhere that defines how the power button functions jsut as the button manager does for other buttons.

I understand your point, and am still wondering what it is you keep in your pocket with your phone that shuts it off!? Anyways, why do you keep referring back to the default device lock? S2U2 performs the same way, as it locks everything besides the power button. If the power button is locked, how would you wake up the device to unlock it ???
the power button has two functions, it blanks the screen if you press it, or it brings up the power off menu when you long press it. The problem i'm having is s2u2 doesnt prevent the power off menu from coming up, where as the stock device lock does. Thus, it is possible to completely power off the phone while the keys are locked.... of course I want to be able to wake the phone up with the power button, but i dont want to be able to turn it completely off.
And i'm not sure how it turns off in my pocket, except i usually carry it with the power button face down (phone upside down) and it must press against the bottom of my pocket...
The application that it is calling is the stock shut down menu, i'm not sure how I could add this to the exception list, as I dont know how to call it remotely....
Thanks again for the replies!
The title of this caught my attention.
It would be very nice to have a registry edit that will lock the device when powered off or on device wake up.
I use S2U2 and I am really not liking it personally, but it is better then the default setup currently I feel.
Hi there
I seemed to have got myself into trouble. My HD Touch has locked itself.
I restored a backup from SPB Backup, it has asked for a password and I have tried both passwords which I had on the system and without any result.
I have also tried to perform a hard reset using the power keys and the pressing the two volume buttons but I held onto them for over 5 minutes without any result.
Has anyone got any other ideas how I can get back into the phone?
Thanks
Kaid
A hard reset is press and hold power to turn off.
Then press and hold both volume buttons, whilst holding the volume buttons press and release the power button.
Once the boot screen is visible release the volume buttons and follow the on-screen instructions.
Thank You - Relief
Mild panic was beginning to set in here as I thought I had f**ked up a very expensive phone.
Back in business!
Cause of lock..
Hi,
Any idea on what the cause of the lock was?
If you use pushmail you're pushmail provider (mostly work) may have a policy which requires a password. They can remotely activate this..
If this was the case, google for "Zenyee Stay Unlock" works great for me..
Regards.

So a push-mail provider is able to totally lock my device? Another reason not to make use of this service .
I activated art on my S5 and it restarted. When it was restarting it was saying optimizing apps. After that the phone turned off and now it doesnt even turn on. If i press the power button the phone will vibrate but doesn't turn on. I even tried a hard reset by holding the power button, up volume, and home button but nothing is working. Any body have any suggestions on how i can get it working again, at this point i dont even care about the data and apps on my phone I just want it working. Any help is appreciated.

Are you able to boot into the Download Mode? (Power + Home + Volume Down)
If so, try to reflash the stock firmware.
Hello everyone here,
I just run into trouble - a power button on my Galaxy J5 failed. Few days ago home button failed too.
Device is still on and running, so I need a quick check for not locking myself out.
1) after phone was locked - can volume keys wake the screen? (so I can enter e.g. an unlock pattern)
2) does J5 require to press power or home button to turn it on (e.g. after power down)
3) does J5 require to press power or home button to wake screen after it is restarted?
also, if anyone would like to suggest...
4) how can I access restart menu? or just restart the device?
5) any other issues I can run into?
6) can the be a software issue?
7) can a non-affiliated repair shop get this easily fixed or would they probably make things worse?
any advice is welcome!
phone is not rooted. Lock screen security (pattern) is now deactivated.
Model SM-J510FN, J510FNXWUAQG1, Android 6.0.1,
thanks!
Plug in charging, if it wakes up its working!!
thanks for feedback!
yes, it is working I installed Gravity Screen app and it seems to be doing fine with turning screen on and off.
The only question left is what to expect if the battery should run off one day or I'll need to reboot the phone or take out the battery... I am afraid it expects pressing power button to start booting, but its not working... any ideas?

Yep.. Then you'll have to take it to the service centre, that's the only solution I can think of.. :silly:
today the power button misteriously started to act again. I'll stick to Gravity app for waking the screen and hope the button will work in rare cases when needed after powerdown....
thanks everyone for suggestions!
Update: after trying to exit SAFE mode, my phone was still in airplane mode and two of my 3rd party widgets were still missing on my home screen. Apparently my phone was out of SAFE mode but had not restored things to the way they were before I entered SAFE mode (ie, widgets still missing and no mobile data) ... I was able to turn off airplane mode and turn on mobile data. One widget I got back on the home screen the other I haven't tried yet. So I think this can be closed.
Power off then back on is supposed to do the trick - nope
The following does not work:
Turn off your Pixel 4 phone.
Once your device is off, press and hold the Power button.
When you see a logo on the screen, let go of the Power button.
Quickly press and hold the Volume Down button after letting go of the Power button.
I checked and my volume down button is working just fine
I cleared cache and uninstalled many apps - didn't help (can't figure out how to display any that may have gotten in there in the past 2 days)
Malware Bytes (already installed on the phone) did not find any problems
This is a problem because SAFE mode won't let my relatively few apps run.
Thanks for any suggestions.
PS: I *DID* turn on SAFE mode while trying to get a bug in the CAMERA to work again. That problem was that once I took a photo the EDIT button would not work - it just went back into camera mode
You should ask this in the pixel 4xl section. This is the pixel 4 (flame) section.
