What SD card do you have installed, and is it a Class 10, or a UHS-1 or UHS-3? The type of SD card and what it's rated for will heavily impact your expected speeds, especially if you adopt the SD card.
Though my SD card is not formatted as internal storage (and thus not subject to encryption, which may slow down the read/write speeds), I'm getting similar speeds to what my SD card is rated at.
SD card: Sandisk Extreme 32 GB (UHS-3, v30 rated, up to 90 MB/s read, up to 60 MB/s write)
Formatted as: portable storage.
System: stock 7.0 June 2017 security patch, NPJS25.93-14-8.
A1 SD: 81.9 MB/s read, 51 MB/s write

Uhs1 I wonder because encryption it bogs down the carx

It's definitely possible as UHS-1 cards are rated for a minimum write speed of 10 MB/s. Encryption and being adopted as internal storage may decrease that write speed even further.
You could try formatting the SD card as portable storage, see if speeds improve (plus apps will behave better if they're kept on internal storage, widget work and they launch faster).
If you're still intent on adopting cards for internal storage, I would want to consider UHS-3 as a minimum rating on SD cards (minimum write speed of 30 MB/s). They're more expensive, yes - but the faster the speed, the fewer issues you may run into.

Speed of SD slot

Hi, does anyone know what the max supported speed is? I can buy a 2 mb/s write and 3 mb/s read 1 GB SD card or a 5mb/s write and 6 mb/s read for just 10€ more.
So my question is, should I pay 10€ more?
Buy the fastest
Because ifyou by a usb card reader you will be able to copy data faster.
So it only matters if I also buy a cardreader?
Hmm i wondering about this myself even, whats the different . Can anyone answer exact how fast the qtek s100 writes and read. It must be some meaning of faster memeory card. Example Simpletech has 10/10mb fast and writing speed . And Sandisk 1.5/5mb i think. Dont the phone be faster with faster memory card???? please someone?
the card reader is really slow
i've bought a Sandisk 1GB Extreme III SD card, but in fact it is slower that a normal 512MB Kingston SD card, to bad... (both around the 1MB/s with PocketMechanic SD benchmarking).

Class 6 for apps to sd card?

i have a class 2 sd card that is 4gb. i read that you need class 6 for apps to sd card? will it not work on class 2?
It'll work but it'll just lag your phone down whenever any writing is taking place since the write speed is only 2mb/s compared to a class 6, 6mb/s.
Keep in mind that SDHC "class" system is only a guaranteed minimum. There are some class 4 cards out there that actually out perform some class 6 cards. Do your homework (read:google) and get a card that is > 8MB/s write and > 9MB/s read and you will max out the speed capabilities of your G1.
I can personally verify that the AData class 6 8G and the SanDisk class 6 8G both outperform the G1's capabilities. Also, from what I have read, the SanDisk class 4 16GB also outperforms the G1's capabilities.
Also, I have found that even though the SanDisk and the AData cards mentioned above exceed the G1's capabilities, the AData card is a better card for the G1 (in my particular case.) For some reason my Sandisk card can only get 6.5MB/s write and my AData card can get 8MB/s+ write speed on the G1.

i have a class 4 8GB card and i moved my apps to the sd card about a month ago...it was VERY laggy, so i went back to keeping the apps in the G1's internal memory.
i will try again when i get a class 6.
I have a class 2 16GB Sandisk card, and I have to say - there are no lags whatsoever. The card is much faster than the stock 1GB one, and if moving applications, you don't need that much write speed - the read speed is much more important. I can get 14 MB/sec read speed via cardreader with this card, while the stock 1GB one gives 5 MB/sec only (tested with hdparm).
Just remember - move only applications, NOT their data or caches (which is really unstable anyway). You should have no problems with speed this way - application startup is still fast (if a program is 7 MB, it needs 0.5 sec to be read, which is perfectly acceptable), and you still write to the phone's internal memory.

Does Shield TV has UHS-II reader?

I search around website but couldn't find the specific specs for the micro sd card reader for Shield TV. Does it support UHS-II? I am planning to purchase the Lexar 1800x and want to make sure if I can take full advantage of that card which support read speed up to 300MB/S. I'm also wondering about the writing and reading speed of original storage on 16GB version.
Nvm I contacted Nvidia support, only support UHS-I class 3.

by chance, did you ask what the maximum read/write speeds were for on the microsd slot?

I assume all the card reader of UHS-1 class3 should have same limit...based on the wiki the limit for that is 104 MByte/s.
I did some further research and seems like random writing and reading speed is actually more important than sequence speed. However, the review on amazon shows Samsung pro plus is best on both random and sequence speed so I guess I will just go with that for now. Laxer is actually only good at reading speed.

Based on this one ....San disk is better? I'm confused...

thats a pretty misleading article, there compairing a 128gb evo plus to other various sized cards. from what ive seen (so far) all premium 128gb cards have relatively low write speeds vs their smaller counterparts.
lexar's generally have the best sequential read/write speed, samsung's usually are better with random read/write, and sandisk is definitely solid too.
for example
lexar 64gb 633x sequential read/write 93.36 / 48.09 MB/s
lexar 128gb 633x sequential read/write 73.17 / 22.16 MB/s
results are basically the same for other manufacturers.

Definitely a fast card read/write was a bit faster than 80/40 MB/s iirc.
I haven't ran any legit benchmarks on shield yet, but regardless of the sd card i haven't really seen write speeds over 12-15 MB/s while transferring from internal to sd with file managers, ES specifically.
So im thinking internal storage isn't particularly fast, just like on the shield tablet. If i get bored I'll run some tests and see what I come up with
I haven't found a device that's not a camera that support this format yet.
^^ yeah pretty much. even if they call it out. real world speeds dont seem to get there. outside of HD cameras
The microsd reader is UHS-I so you will spend money for nothing. No matter how fast the external storage is you still depend on the speed of the internal storage which is gong to be the bottleneck when you run the OS and apps. 4K video needs 25Mbps and UHS-I can deliver easily. Same story if you read from USB 3 ports. I don't know the speed of the internal storage but it should be at the commercial level of the beginning of 2015.

What's your read/write speed with the pro plus? I got the same, I get 60~ r/w.
I ordered 500gb version...I did get the card for my phone lol but like 40s speed sad

My sd memory card is very slow?

Why does it come to me when I insert a sd card "the sd memory card is too slow for your device, can have failures when running applications"? Is a sd card from 32GB to 70MB / S
Thanks!!
What SD card do you have? The SD card you have might be too slow in terms of write speed, since Class 10 SD cards are not all the same (confusingly). I think you'll want to buy a micro SD card that has at least Class 10 UHS Speed Class 3 (UHS-3), particularly if you want to use it as adoptable storage. UHS-3 has a minimum write speed of 30 MB/s and the UHS-3 marking can be seen on the packaging and SD card as a U with a 3 inside. I've seen UHS video SD cards (e.g. v30, v60) around that are potentially faster than UHS-3 but I'm not sure if our Moto G4s can make use of the faster speeds.
https://www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/speed_class/ and https://www.sdcard.org/consumers/choices/speed_class/index.html have a good overview, and as an example of what you could buy, https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Extreme-microSDHC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B01HXR511A/

How's the SD card speed?

Would someone with an an XZ2 Premium please run a storage speed test on the Micro SD card slot? The XZ2 is apparently gimped compared to last year's XZ1. Which is a real shame.
SD speeds seem pretty bad.
Using A1 SD Bench, running the "accurate w/reboot" test, it achieved only 19.26MB/s read and 21.52MB/s write.
This was with the latest Samsung EVO 128GB U3 card capable of near 100MB/s reads and almost 90MB/s writes as tested on my PC using USB3 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWZWYVP).
Dismal.

Same for me, I also checked my EVO Plus U3 Card on my PC and it was fine, so there does seem to be an issue, the internal memory speed is insanely fast

There's an issue, alright. The issue is that they implemented a pathetic SD card subsystem in an expensive, super-premium phone. It's no wonder that it took so long to generate thumbnails for the photos I transferred over - the SD card read speed (and write speed) is thoroughly gimped.
