Does Shield TV has UHS-II reader? - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I search around website but couldn't find the specific specs for the micro sd card reader for Shield TV. Does it support UHS-II? I am planning to purchase the Lexar 1800x and want to make sure if I can take full advantage of that card which support read speed up to 300MB/S. I'm also wondering about the writing and reading speed of original storage on 16GB version.

Nvm I contacted Nvidia support, only support UHS-I class 3.

by chance, did you ask what the maximum read/write speeds were for on the microsd slot?

I assume all the card reader of UHS-1 class3 should have same limit...based on the wiki the limit for that is 104 MByte/s.
I did some further research and seems like random writing and reading speed is actually more important than sequence speed. However, the review on amazon shows Samsung pro plus is best on both random and sequence speed so I guess I will just go with that for now. Laxer is actually only good at reading speed.

thats a pretty misleading article, there compairing a 128gb evo plus to other various sized cards. from what ive seen (so far) all premium 128gb cards have relatively low write speeds vs their smaller counterparts.
lexar's generally have the best sequential read/write speed, samsung's usually are better with random read/write, and sandisk is definitely solid too.
for example
lexar 64gb 633x sequential read/write 93.36 / 48.09 MB/s
lexar 128gb 633x sequential read/write 73.17 / 22.16 MB/s
results are basically the same for other manufacturers.

Definitely a fast card read/write was a bit faster than 80/40 MB/s iirc.
I haven't ran any legit benchmarks on shield yet, but regardless of the sd card i haven't really seen write speeds over 12-15 MB/s while transferring from internal to sd with file managers, ES specifically.
So im thinking internal storage isn't particularly fast, just like on the shield tablet. If i get bored I'll run some tests and see what I come up with

I haven't found a device that's not a camera that support this format yet.

^^ yeah pretty much. even if they call it out. real world speeds dont seem to get there. outside of HD cameras

The microsd reader is UHS-I so you will spend money for nothing. No matter how fast the external storage is you still depend on the speed of the internal storage which is gong to be the bottleneck when you run the OS and apps. 4K video needs 25Mbps and UHS-I can deliver easily. Same story if you read from USB 3 ports. I don't know the speed of the internal storage but it should be at the commercial level of the beginning of 2015.

Speed difference while working with SDHC Class 2,4 or 6?

Hey folks,
is there any Speed difference between a Micro SDHC Card with Class 2,4 or 6 while working with the HD2? For example loading big files like Navigation Software.
Copying things onto the Card is for sure much faster, but while copying i've time to wait. Intressting to me is just the speed difference while working with the phone.

I've got a class 2 16GB SanDisk card in mine, and if a class 4 or class 6 make operation time any quicker, then I seriously doubt that you'd notice it. I've not tried any other classes, so can't compare, but I can definitely say that a speed improvement is not required.
allright
a 16gig class 2 is ordered!
Depends on the storage size. With most 16GB cards, there's almost no difference between class 2,4,6.
The less the storage size, the greater the difference between the classes.
However, I recommend a quick test to make sure the data rates are acceptable, before you keep the card.
@johncmolyneux
what's your average speed with 16gig class2 (card in the HD2 and connected via USB)?
Would be great if you could make some Benchmarks with HDTune or HD2testw!
A friend of mine got an PNY Premium 16gig Class2 Card and he got:
~3MB/s Write
~8MB/s Read
(hd2testw)
i hope its the card that is limiting and not the HD2, because these values are bullsh*t!

Reading, I got 8.3MB/s, but couldn't try a write test as it wanted to remove the partition on the card. I then tried the same test with the 8GB Transcend card (class 6) that was in my HD, and I got around 50MB/s read on that.
It was definitely a noticable difference doing that test, but not a noticable difference when using the device.
Incidentally, I couldn't find a single thing about hd2testw. Do you have any links?
what? 50MB/s Read. thats stunning!
is the 16gig Card a SanDisk or also one of the "cheaper" producers?
Try ATTO Benchmark.
I'm now going to cancel the ordered card and get the SanDisk 16gig from amazon. Reviewers on amazon talking about 10MB/s write and up to 20MB/s read. Hopefully the HD2 can make same results!
These are both using ATTO Benchmark (8MB chunks, 256MB size).
16GB card is a SanDisk, class 2.
Write : 4 MB/s
Read : 8.6 MB/s
8GB is a Transcend, class 6.
Write : 6 MB/s
Read : 7.4 MB/s
I trust neither of the apps that I've used for these tests, as the results don't make any sense.

No offence, but I would be inclined to suspect your benchmarking software if it's claiming 50MB/s. That sort of speed suggests that all the reading and writing is actually being done to or from an in-RAM cache rather than the card itself.

SD Card Slot speeds

With black friday coming up, I'm looking for a large micro SD card. My main debate is through speed. I want the 128GB Sandisk microSD card, but it's capped to 30MB/s sequential reads, while the 64GB extreme goes up to 80MB/s. Can the tablet take advantage of those higher speeds? I want as little a difference between the internal memory and the external memory as possible. My only concern is 64GB may not be enough, as I download a metric ton of games, and I'm blowing through the internal memory. Basically, I'm asking for buying advice, and this is all very specific to the shield tablet. I have no other intended uses for the SD card.
I have a Samsung 64gb PRO up to 90mb/s and this is the result
Is that what the shield tablet is actually able to write at? If so, then it's worth it for the increased data loading in my games. That's my main concern. Also, how efficient is app2SD type transferring? I want to know if my SD card will be used effectively, or if I will still end up running out of storage space.

There's a new version of the 128gb that rated 48mb/s. But if you want faster card you can only get them in 64gb. Like the Samsung pro at 90mb/s.

I see. But I think even at 48mp/s, it's not gonna be the same as internal. If you want something close then the Samsung Pro 64gb with 90mb/s is your best bet. But you are only going to match the read speed. The internal memory's write speed is still faster by 2x. But I really doubt you're going to care about that much if you're just transferring 1-2gb of data to the sdcard. And I'm assuming these are game data? Once those are transferred, it's pretty much done with. Even with my 64gb card now with 11.73 mb/s write speed is plenty fast when I move files to the card. If there are game saves that needs to write to the card, they are gonna be small data. I have about 20 game data on the SD card using Folder Mount and I don't find any issue launching them. The only one that I noticed takes longer is Half Life.
Yeah that definitely sounds good. Faster the better. I want a seamless experience.
Does anyone have experience with PNY sd cards? I saw one for $110 that's a 128GB card with 40MB/s sequential read speeds. How would the card perform, ans would it be enough?
Personally I don't think the extra speed will make that big of a difference. Those benchmarks provide controlled and consistent circumstances which are not realistic. Almost nothing you do on the tablet in normal use will push the read speeds. Tbh write speeds could be more important, as they are typically much slower then write speeds. I'm not saying read speed doesn't matter, but that there is certainly a diminishing return on speeds.

Currently that's the fastest 128 GB card I've found, but you're going to pay for it out the nose. I'd vote to wait a bit and see if you can swing it with at 64 GB UHS card first, like the Samsung Pro series. The faster the card the more seamless the experience will be, and even though use will not mimic the benchmark situation it's still going to take less time to write and read to a very fast card in daily use so it will make a difference for sure.

Thanks for your help guys. Ended up buying a Sandisk UHS-3 64GB card for $100. So far so good. Although android's sd card support for apps is SO BAD.

Which MicroSD Card for my "not yet here" but soon S7 Edge?

I've read that with Samsung Phones, Samsung SD cards work perfectly with.
but which one? Samsung Pro Plus or Evo Plus? is there any limitations on what SD card I can put on the s7?
Evo Plus has Read: 80MB/s Write: 20MB/s
Pro Plus has Read: 95MB/s Write: 90MB/s
Price doesnt matter.
thanks
I just bought a pny elite performance card from pcworld. £39.99 tested at 68MB/s read 52MB/s write in the s7. Will do for now!
Samsung Pro Plus is one of the fastest card out. Last week Samsung had the 64GB for $35. I'm waiting on for that price. No rush for me to get one.
Samsung Pro Plus or you can get the 128GB Lexar 1800x that has fast UHS-I speed like the Samsung yet also has support for UHS-II for *much faster* speed when using the card with external USB3 for transferring files. Am using the Lexar 1800x INSIDE the phone and transferred many GBs of files fast. Naturally if I used the card outside the phone environment (read: in the USB 3.0 adapter) it would have been about 2x to 3x faster. The Lexar 1800x is the fastest card out there right now, will handle the next gen when phone support UHS-II, and... if you're like me and have the need for speed
They also make a 64GB version.

A site says, "The Lexar 1800x microSD card was tested in several UHS-I and UHS-II card readers. In UHS-II card readers the 1800x microSD card reached 272.3 MB/s sequential read speed, just passing its 270MB/s quoted read speed. Sequential write speed measured 222.2 MB/s, slightly less than the 245 MB/s rating. In UHS-I card readers, the 1800x card reverted to UHS-I mode and was limited to 96.5 MB/s read and 77.5 MB/s write speeds. Still fast, but not quite as fast as the fastest UHS-I microSD cards." Have not tested it in the phone yet it seems very fast.

PS: If you never see yourself using UHS-II and just keeping the card in the phone then the Samsung card is probably best bang for buck. I move some big files around (pro video and pro audio both in pure lossless) so being able to use the card via USB 3.0 makes life easier plus the next gen of phones might support UHS-II and thus I can keep the existing data on card and not have to data migrate.

I actually want to know what kind of speed the S7 gets with this card in it. From some other post I read someone was saying the reader in the S7 is not that great.
I did a test and it was around 70 read and 60 write. Seems the bottleneck might be the phone as saw another test with the SanDisk Extreme Pro on XDA and it was about the same speeds. Keep in mind that, for me, Lexar 1800x will also be used outside the phone environment so the UHS-II will be very useful. YMMV.
What happens when you insert an 256GB Sd
Officially Samsung says we can expand upto 200GB of external storage but unless Samsung intends to make 200GB Sd card, there aren't any of those kinds in the market. i want to take full advantage of the expandable memory but 126Gb won't be enough so your opinions would help greatly. Can pop in a 256Gb Sd card
So I went and bought the Samsung Pro Plus 32GB. hopefully comes here before my S7 Edge
Good choice of card. I have always used Samsung cards with no problems. Got my Edge yesterday. I've had a bunch of phones, including the latest Iphones and this tops them all easily. Enjoy.
This is all being discussed over in the accessories forum, we should probably continue the discussion over there...

SD card benchmark

Hi!
Has anybody seen (or made himself) a benchmark about the SD card performance?
I'm pretty sure the phone can handle high speed SD cards where they do 95 read and write.
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using Tapatalk
Those values are only theoretical values. I'm interested in real benchmarks...
I have an S7 and a high quality SanDisk UFS I card. I was getting about 60mbs read and 50mbs write. I just bought a new UFS II card of the same brand and tried it in the S7. There was no speed difference even though the card is rated twice as fast. I'm assuming the S7 doesn't support UFS II. Does anyone know if the S8 will utilize the extra speed? I hope I didn't waste the money on the new card.

95ish is no longer a high speed card IMO.
270ish is a high speed card.
BTW the S7 could do 95ish. I tested it. It could not do UHSII which is what we really need. A UHSII slot at 270 with adoptable storage properly supported would be the end of any kind of storage issues on phones.

I bought this one:
SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB Class 10 UHS-II microSDXC Memory Card, U3, Up to 275MB/s Read Speed, 100MB/s Write Speed
I can tell you that it is performing no better than the same SanDisk UFS I card that is rated at half that speed. The best my S7 will do is about 65 read and 60 write. It's not bad but disappointing considering my old card would do that. I hope the S8 can do better.
I'm wondering if the S8 is capable of UHS-II speeds as well.
UFS cards will replace SD cards anyway really soon. thought samsung was going to have it on the s8 but it seems theyre saving it for the note 8 or the s9

Well I guess my investment in a UFS II card was a waste of money. I'm only getting about 65mb read and 65mb write speeds in my S8. I gues the S8 does not use UFS II.
I've just got myself a SDSQUAR-200G-GN6MA, but on Galaxy S8 Plus the A1 SD Bench seq. read speed is ranging from only 40 - 60MBps. Much lower than most reviews who managed to get around 90MBps. Is this means the SD is flawed?

Then that explains it. I was hoping it was the case too, so when I have a card reader at least I can attain the higher speed possible with the SD card. Thank you for the information!

micro SD CARD reader speed

what's the maximum speed of the micro sd card reader? write and read speeds?
I know some android phones are kinda limited. like having 20mb/s maximum speed so it was no point buying a 90mb/s one.
I would like to know what's the lg v20 limit.
Thank you

Not sure what exact limit is but there are 2 threads on here already about micro SD cards speeds. I suggest going through those to get an answer.
Also bear in mind that alot of those advertised speeds are theoretical speeds and you will most likely never see that speed under actual use. At least in my experience
if it would answer my question I wouldn't be making this thread.
