Speaker volume supposedly will be improved based on their marketing:
"Our new stereo speakers have 50% more sound pressure than previous models, making them our most powerful Xperia speakers ever."
Personally, looking forward to this the most. Every Xperia Compact I have owned has had disappointing speaker output. You find yourself always making sure the volume rocker is at it's loudest. We'll see.
Speaker sound is louder and I'm happy about that but I would say still not as loud as I would have hoped. My iPhone SE sounds louder.
i bought a variant from asia. was a little disappointed with the dB output.
just flashed the US firmware. it seems to be louder now. can anyone confirm?
The speaker volume is barely adequate, in my opinion. Depending on your needs it may be OK, though. Also, I'm getting a noticeable distortion over about 3/4 volume level. I have to say I've never been impressed with the Sony phones I've tried in terms of the speakers; I keep hoping, though.
Louder and clearer than GS7
Coming from the Samsung Galaxy S7, I think the front facing speakers are slightly louder and definitely clearer sounding.
I've also owned the Z3 Compact, and one of the biggest disappointments to me was how low the volume was of the front facing speakers.
I think SONY got it right this time, with the speakers.

I tested at the IFA, which was a pretty loud environment and volume was similar to my Axon 7 despite the V30 having only a mono side speaker. Clarity was good, less distorted than Axon 7 at high volume, but hard to judge because the environment was loud. I will wait for GSMarena#s audio testing.
Pleasantly surprised by the speaker. Gets loud enough but I wouldn't say particularly louder than any phone. Pretty good quality however.
Seriously speaking... this is probably the only "meh" feature of this phone. Glad to hear the simple mono set up is fairly good for what it is though.
I used the G4 H815 since 2015 and comparing, the V30 is not so loud or clear. The G4 gets even louder if over a surface with the screen up. The curve let to the speaker space to "create" some kind of amplifying "sound box".
The 3.5 jack on the top is also a minus for my kind of use and my car setup...

Unfortunately P20 doesn't have stereo speaker like Pro version and sound is just standard and average and nothing special.
Unfortunately i didnt know about it before i got my phone ;_; this suck. Mono speaker is terrible

For me it's sufficient. If I want more I hook it up to my jbl charge 3.
Sound coming out of the single speaker is kind of thin but clear and loud enough for talking head videos and games. Bass is almost completely lacking, but hey... Use headphones for music.
Loud enough, but muffled sound (low clarity). The Honor 10 even with single grill has better clarity in my opinion. The only real downside of P20 sadly.
I have to disagree with everyone here and say I believe the speaker to be very good. I've owned all the latest flagships including P20 pro, s9, iPhone X, one plus 6.
The speaker in my opinion is very good for a single speaker. It's as loud if not louder than many and the depth and range of sound is good .
Obviously stereo speakers would be nice but this does not do bad for a single speaker.

Do you suppose that I have a defective phone since even without comparison to another phone (such as the Honor 10), I can tell the speaker sounds relatively unclear and muffled, especially in low-medium volume.

its fine for calls, but pales in comparison to an iPhone. They really should have gone with a side firing and earpiece loudspeaker for stereo effect.
Great for BT with AptXHD quality coming through my Sony WI1000X in ear BT headphones
This has one of the worst speakers for music I have heard in a long time on a phone. Very loud and good lows for spoken news or voice calls, but when the opening music of a game that I play everyday plays, since I have heard it so many times through other phones, it was definitely noticeable how poorly sounding it was. Stereo would have definitely helped. Since it is so muffled to begin with, when holding vertical with one hand it is often being blocked as well. Pixel 2, iPhone X, and S8 were my others to compare with.

Is it me or one of the last update greatly increased the stereo on the speakers? It was really not good with bad balance at first, then after an udpate the quality was horrible with noise in the top speaker, but a week ago I forgot my headphone, I was surprised how good the stereo was. Almost perfect balance with good clarity and quality.

no I always had a good sound but with the dolby activated Otherwise I had a big difference in volume
I bought the Xperia when it first came out and was disappointed at the quality of the speakers. They sounded really tinny with lack of mids or depth even with atmos on and were not that loud.
In comparison the Samsung note 9 speakers were way better but only since Samsung phones are tuned by AKG which is now owned by Samsung, but like beat audio for apple.

don't know if is juts me, but lately I perceive low sound on both speakers

Mediocre speaker
Probably my least favorite part of the Wing is the speaker. Unlike the LG Velvet, which sounds great, this single firing bottom speaker is not good. Lacks overall volume and depth.

I agree.
I really wish it had better speaker \s .
I was impressed with the speaker after reading these reviews. ( I read these reviews prior to purchasing the phone.)
Loudness is just fine for me. I used to have an LG v20 in this is louder and more crisp when talking on speakerphone.
The Sound is not that bad. is only that is not the same Quality of other device in the same price Range. is going to do the job but can't compete with the top dogs of that division (sound).
Try Volume Booster by GOODEV, this really helps to boosts the volume in LG Wing
The speaker volume is low compared to other phones and sometimes I don't hear phone calls when I'm outside, this is frustrating.
