I've had consistent calling issues since I've gotten the phone (4 months ago). During normal phone calls, after several minutes of talking, the caller can no longer hear me speak. The call will continue, but no amount of toggling mute, speaker, or hold can bring back the audio and allow the caller to hear me. I can hear them continue talking, but I cannot respond. At this point, I usually try to end the call so I can call back, but the phone is usually stuck in the call and takes up to a minute to disconnect. When placing the call again, it works fine to begin with and eventually it cuts out again. Sometimes it cuts out after a couple minutes into the call, sometimes it will take 20-30 minutes.
I've resorted to using Google Duo as a backup (works great), but that gets irritating to make people use a different app to call me.
Background info: I am using Cricket wireless in the USA, the sim is several years old and I have not ruled out it being a Cricket problem, though none of my family on the same plan (all running iPhone) has this issue. Running latest stock Sony firmware available for Central Europe region.
Any advice to fix my issue would be appreciated.
Of all the phones I've had, I think the XZ1 Compact most stable and best sound quality one I have (one of the others I have is a Note 8 which also is good, but both sound quality and stability (has some sound dropouts from time to time) is inferior to the Sony. Maybe related to that the Note 8 is rooted and running another ROM while the XZ1C still runs stock). Also, Sony actually has a decent volume now compared to earlier phones.

Call quality for me so far has been poor can hardly hear the other person.....speaker phone and extra loud enabled and I still have to put the speaker in my war

Cristal clear calls, at least in my home city, I had a note 4 910c, it had a problem, the person calling me always complained about hearing echoes, no matter from where I were calling, really annoying, but no problem with my note 8
no problem with quality using advanced wificalling
Quality call here in Brazil is very good. Especially when in VoLTE
No issues with call quality here either (in Canada).
Call quality has been excellent. No complaints from me or the person on the other side.
Pretty **** on T Mobile hd calling. Scratchy and awful.

perfect on wifi lte calling, otherwise becomes less clear or loud. too bad samsung can't improve on that.
Since VoLTE became available, this type of calls sometimes do not work fine, the other side sometimes can not hear me, so, I ended switching to std calls, I think it might be a carrier glitch
Signal reception is lousy compared to previous Sony and Apple phones. Same network. Loads of dropped calls.

Signal is great here on my N950F and never dropped a call once. Strange.
I've had my Note 8 for about a week. In comparison to my last three phones (Note 3, ZTE Axon 7 & Essential Ph-1), people on voice calls tell me that I am more clear. They ask what I am saying far less often. Using sm-n950f (Exynos) on ATT in USA.

I can agree here.. Very good quality
audio is good but I am not sure about the reception. I had an incoming call from a landline number and every time the person on the other end was quite the audio was like on mute, no background noises no static nothing. When the person starts to talk everything back to normal. Not sure why it happened but happened only once out of 3 calls from the same number,
has anyone noticed that when talking over 4G there's a HD icon on the phone app? When this appears the call is of higher quality

Same here. When phone is in horizontal position, i.e. on table, speaker is unusable, other side can't understand me. Probably back mic gets muted and confuses software with audio processing. Stock headphones are also unusable for calls. In normal mode calls are pretty decent. I'm on TA-1012.
Edit: A few words
Very good audio!
It has a really good microphone but if you want to unleash the real quality then I recommend tuning onto VoLTE and VoWifi. If your wireless network is decent you'll expirience far better calls quality.
People on the other side keep complaining about audio cutting out fom time to time. Any way to fix this?
Yepp, when You say nothing in call there is a audio cut off.
General Audio processing in voice notes , calls , video recording is not so good as in my xperia z5 compact.
The sony produces much better audio

I think the call quality is okey, i wasn't blown out with it. I think my HTC U11+ is louder though not by much. I don't know why the manufacturers put a cap on the volume strength when clearly you can go beyond and still it will be safe. Leave it to the consumer to decide.
No VOLTE
So I've spoken with tech support with both Asus, T-Mobile, over the phone and in store. The end result was that the Asus ROG phone does have the capability to support VOLTE calls, but the software is not enabled, nor able to be enabled to make it work. So it's not a T-Mobile or AT&T issue, it's an Asus issue. Worse still Asus knows its an issue and has no plans to release an update to get it working. So calls basically sound like they did back in the late 90's which isn't good for those of you who weren't born yet. Any help on this issue from the Dev's here would be a huge help. I'm going to try rooting the phone and see if that will allow me to force the option to be allowed to turn on in the secret settings menu after punching in the code on the dialer. Currently if the code is punched in on the dialer the option to turn on VOLTE is there but isn't able to be enabled. Hoping rooting fixes this. If not the phone is going back. It is a phone after all.

Hello, i have really big problems with this phone when is about talking to it, i was write on Asus forum details about this issue, i'm on the 3rd replaced rog phone in 5 days, all of them have the same problem: quality is horrible, the person i talk with barely can hear me, then is hearing some weird noises and total silence. This is happening with each call, random times, can happen from start of conversation or seconds later or minutes later.
Hope it's ok if i drop the link here:
asus.com/zentalk/thread-246208-1-1.html[/url]
If anyone had any similar issues please let me know. I talked with someone from local Asus and they are aware of this problem, but the problem is that i can't get a replacement everyday until i'm lucky enough to get a functional phone, wasting my time on my own money after paid $900+ for this phone... i like it how it feels in hand & it's specs but can't use it as a phone atm to talk at it.
PS: sorry for my typo & eng skills

I believe this is a software issue and not hardware. I hope they fix in next update.
I read on ThreeUK's site the below as much as I want this phone I may hold off as the call needs some quaility.
4G Super-Voice doesn't work on other non-Three devices yet however, even if the manufacturer has stated that it's VoLTE compatible. We're working on this, so be sure to check back for updates.

I am having similar issues. It takes 10-15 attempts for me to dial out (if I ever do), and if it connects the person either cannot hear me at all, barely hear me, or I cut in and out. I've RMAd it twice now and they are unable to recreate the issue. There was some thought around a theory that the noise canceling mics might be not working properly, but I'll need to do more testing. The fact that you (and a couple other people I've seen around the net) have had the same issue with MULTIPLE phones makes me think there is a software and/or hardware defect. At this point I am leaning towards just getting a different phone.

They are very aware of this, i changed 4 phones in 2 weeks and each one of them does the same thing. I decided to keep the 4th one with hope that they will fix this asap, but problem still persist.
Check my thread on the ASUS forum.
My personal experience with this phone has been very good. Call quality is excellent, although I have only tested regular voice calls and whatsapp calls. On either one, the reception has been flawless, even on say, hard to reach locations. I have inevitably compared the call reception with my Nokia 8 and they are both incredibly good. Nokia has always been superior on call reception and call quality, and the ROG really makes up for it. No stuttering, no call drops, really good.

I concur.
I just spoke to my brother driving through the snow storm in north dakota on his way home, call quality was solid. Heard him loud and clear, no background noise, never had to say "what?" , and thats a long distance call where he's in white out conditions. (plus I'm with bell and he's on rogers but probably connected to a US carrier ATM)
ROG phone has never dropped a call or had any audio connection issues so far. I definitely get VoLTE on certain calls, but not many. I think it depends on carrier, the actual phone that you are calling, and even whether they are on another network or not. at least for my canadian carrier.
overall, I'd say definitely solid and reliable in my own 3+ months with this phone.

I'm experiencing the same problem. The microphone gets "muted" in the beginning of every call. After about 5-7 seconds of talking, it gets activated and the other person can finally hear me. It's extremely frustrating.
Apart from that, the call quality and reception is excellent.
In my case call quality is crap. But it is me who can not hear properly. It is due to lack of VoLTE I think. 2 people connected via 3G and both on BT headset = call quality disaster. Pixel 3XL on volte no problem at all

I made 3 calls yesterday and receiver kept asking "where are you now, signal is bad". I do think that noise cancelling maybe does too good, it cancelled my voice also

Call quality over Wi-Fi on fiber is Outstanding !
I have a moth-old issue with WA/Hangout video and audio calls, thru WiFi, when BT is enabled.
Very poor quality of video chats when using the WiFi connection, in fact it seems like Hangout/WA viedo/audio makes a small pause every 3/4 seconds, that is very disappointing.
It seems that Andorid 10 is a bit better than Andorid 9, but the "disabling BT" workaround does not work anymore in Android 10 and the the nasty "pause" remains there.
This is the post in the support forum, about this issue:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/moto-g...ality-Moto-G8-Plus/m-p/5023887?page=4#5173977
There are alto threads about the wifi/BT interaction problems, and it seems very disappointing for me that Motorola has not fixed this base functionality. Not being able to have a decent Videochat thru Wifi in 2020 with modern phone is IMHO unacceptable.
https://forums.lenovo.com/searchpage/tab/posts?fid=2893&q=wifi+problem
Has anyone found a solution workorund, are there any fix/custom ROM withour this issue?
It looks like they are trying only to make me wait for a "never coming" solution , perhaps you can also report in these threads...
Regards

Weird Stuttering on Phone Calls (Mostly in Android Auto)
Hey everyone,
So for a while now when I am on a hands-free call in Android Auto in either of my Chevy vehicles (a 2019 Trax and a 2020 Equinox), the other person's voice will make like a stuttering sound for 2-3 seconds, and then jump back to normal. I ended up missing what they said though and it seems to happen almost every 5 minutes or more. I also noticed that it happens once in a while when I am at home talking just on speakerphone or regular.
I thought it was the Bluetooth possibly at first from some things I found while Googling, but everything seemed to reference the music audio stuttering, not the phone audio for phone calls. The only thing I can think of is it has to do with the network (T-Mobile), but it shows that I have a full 5G signal when it is happening, or at least 4G. I am running on the latest update, and my A71 5G was bought unlocked new from Best Buy (not tied to any specific network).
Any ideas? It is starting to make trying to have a phone conversation impossible, and I am in the car a lot for work so it is making it hard to keep up-to-date with family and work stuff. Thanks in advance for any ideas / help / suggestions!
