Replacing broken phone with a t-mobile s7 edge - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

Hello, I'm new to XDA and had a newb question:
I own an AT&T galaxy S7 Edge that I dropped and the screen shattered and the digitizer went to hell. I contacted Samsung and they quoted me around $300 to fix it without any assurances.... which is oh so kind. I was looking at craigslist and found a really cheap galaxy S7 edge from T-Mobile that has a bad IMEI on it. I know T-mobile has a weird unlocking app now and was wondering if I could flash Lineage OS or another OS onto my phone and then change the IMEI to my old phone to make it work?

No flashing of custom roms except for what's in the rom section of this thread which isn't what you are looking for. We have a locked boot loader and there is no twrp recovery meaning no aosp flashing of any kind, sorry.

you better get insurance or a really good case. the edge breaks easily and costs more to repair than to replace. I also prefer the non-edge phone because I keep having accidental touches.

[Q] is this possible or am i dreaming swapping phone guts

ok i was browsing ebay, and came across, 32GB Verizon Galaxy S4 with Cracked Screen for cheap say 104, so i am thinking can i take either my screen or replace the motherboard.
lets say i get this what is the total cost to get it repaired via shop. (if my guy can do it) ball park figure
besides is this a good buy or could i buy a international or an att mdl either one has to be 32gb, i plan on safe straping it
i am getting ideas now so i am not looking to buy just yet, or never.
i also wonder how much would my phone go for (phone in sig minus case and sd card)
thank yall i am getting tired of dealing with a locked boot loader, and i didnt plan on rooting or flashing roms to this thing either.

[Q] Warranty Replacement Experience

My AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge started having problems with the display. Showed up as a single vertical line all the way down the right side of the screen. Called AT&T Troubleshooting Support and they said it was a known problem and they were going to send me a new phone.
My question is does the phone warranty start over or does it continue as the original phone? As I only have about 3 months left on the original phone. Just wondering what other's experience has been.
Thanks...

I replace mine, nice and smooth, no problems at all. Warranty start over when you activate replacement phone, but just you to know this will be refurbished phone not new. They mail you new phone and you mail back in same package your old (broken) phone.

Thank you for your reply. I was hoping thats what would happen but just wanted to confirm. You answered my questions and not too concerned with "refurbished". As long it works and I get another year of warranty

I've had my replacement device replace lol. my phone was acting up so they sent me a a refurbish one then that one started messing up right when I powered it up by giving me the phantom key presses I couldn't even type in my WiFi password because of that. so i had it replace and its been working good since then.
the warranty actually restarts with the replacement device so your good.

Thanks for your reply. Glad to know that the warranty starts over. Was kind of worried about it as I only had a couple of months left on this one.
Doesn't sound like you had good luck with replacement phones, but glad it worked out for you.

Bought a used s7 Verizon. Is it fake?

I bought a galaxy s7 on craigslist. It was listed as new Verizon model but was obviously used lightly. No burn in and few scratches. The price was good.
It works well and I was able to get it to work with the sim and even installed 930u firmware to use with att. Att was able to add emei to my account
I have never seen s7 before this but on this one there are small squares around the back and menu button and a number engraved in the left upper bezel to the left of Samsung logo
I did not see this in the s7 in another store after I bought it, also a Verizon model. The phone has a clean emei
Can anyone tell me if this is some kind of demo unit and if there is a chance this is not the real deal or the glass was replaced or something like that.

can you go into recovery and download mode? if yes. this is an original samsung phone.
This explains the difference between a real S7 and a fake one.
https://androidcommunity.com/learn-...een-fake-and-real-samsung-galaxy-s7-20160415/
Are your back and menu buttons always visible and not lit up? In other words, if the phone and/or screen is off, can you still see them? If so, it's a fake. True S7s don't have a box around them and they are lit by a back light.
Craigslist is definitely a place I wouldn't get a phone from. Reports are, most people do not get what is advertised when it comes to cell phones. Yes, there are reputable people out there, but if the price was too good to be true, then more than likely, it's a fake.
If you were able to flash the 930u firmware onto it, it's real. If it were fake the flash would have been unsuccessful.
Sound like a cheap non samsung ebay screen replacement

S7 edge demo to full phone?

Can I swap motherboard from real s7 edge to demo unit, will phone calls etc... work?
I don't know, but I am going to attempt it.
Hi all,
I am going to attempt to replace the motherboard in a Galaxy S7 G930X (demo model without cellular radios), with a motherboard from a G930P (sprint model) that has a broken screen and LCD, but boots and has a clean IMEI number.
I have searched this forum to see if anyone else has done a cross-swap like this, but have found no answers except one failed attempt back in January 2017, and the guy was going to try again with a different motherboard -- but didn't update the thread to let us know how it worked out.
I'd really like to hear from others if they have had any issues doing motherboard swaps between carriers on the S7s. I understand that the hardware is about the same between the S7 and the S7 Edge, but I am not brave enough to attempt that swap.... Besides, I think there is special software to do special "edge" things that probably would mess things up in a plain S7....
Thanks in advance,
Philip
P.S. I will update this and the January 2017 thread with my results once I get the phones in hand and the replacement glass battery cover that I ordered from China. So be patient -- it may take a while for it all to get here....

Well, my first attempt didn't work out the way I had hoped.
Rather than post the results on multiple threads, here's a link to a new thread I started that documents the whole saga: starting with the reason I attempted this, the research done, the models purchased, the actual results from the attempt that documents what is different between the LDUs and their fully functional counterparts and the difficulties encountered, the alternative swap that was performed successfully, and some parting thoughts.
Here's the title and link to the post:
"Swap a good donor motherboard into a G930X LDU (Live Display Unit)? VERY HARD."

I hope it is helpful,
Philip

Bootloader

Then snapdragon S7e have a locked bootloader, is it possible to swap the CPU with an exynos one so we can flash the custom stuff?
Sure. Find someone who has an Exynos (non-US) Galaxy S7 Edge and is willing to trade. Hand them your phone in exchange for theirs. Done!
Otherwise, no.

Means the exynos chipset won't work on my phone, because my friend broke his screen and willing to give his phone ?
These phones aren't meant to be opened period, never mind swapping chips on them. The displays are so integrated into the top-glass that swapping one is essentially swapping half the phone. I haven't seen the motherboard for an Exynos based S7 Edge, but I would imagine the batteries and displays are similar or identical, so you might get lucky and swap the bottom half to fix a broken screen. However, anything other than a gross repair (such as a display or charging port) either isn't doable, or isn't worth the effort. Even then, you have to get through the glass without breaking it. iFixit has a tutorial, but it involves a fair amount of skill and special tools.
If your friend has an otherwise working Exynos S7 Edge with a broken display, and you have a Snapdragon S7 Edge with a working display, you might be able to merge the two into a single working device, but I would suggest finding a skilled technician to do the work.
