Sprint ZV7 - LG G6 Questions and Answers

I just got an update on my G6 today, ZV7. No info was given before the update on what it addressed, and I can't seem to find anything online. I'm guessing "Calling Plus" was one of the updates, but besides that I don't know. Anyone have anymore info?

[Q] How long does until Verizon Update is available on Verizon Upgrade Assistant?

Hello, I have a Verizon Note 4, but I am living internationally and not connected to any Verizon network. I need to try and download the update with Verizon Upgrade Assistant or Kies because I can't do it from my phone. Every time I connect it to the Assistant it says the software is up to date. Does anybody know how long it takes to get uploaded to the servers? I am not sure if it is already uploaded and I just cant get it or they haven't made it available on the upgrade assistant yet. I think it is the latter. Anyone have experience and can shed some light? Does it usually take a few days to upload the new updates to the assistant. I NEED this update for my Gear VR to work. I would also take any advice on how to upgrade to the newest software through any means necessary. I would be so appreciative if somebody has an answer! Thanks

Update LG G6 AT&T H871 to Android 8

Hi everyone! i have a LG H871 ATT&T unlocked, I am living outside the US and I want to update the OS, it's running Android 7, But when i click update now it's says the Current software is up to date. the device is unlocked, what I can do?
LG Bridge doesn't work. It says it cant check my software version.
Anyone here have a solution?
Thank you in advance!
I've spent hours researching this and have only found one solution. You have to buy an ATT go phone prepaid SIM card for $2 and install it. Get a "Pay by the minute" plan (it won't let you checkout without selecting the plan, but you don't have to use it).
Once you get the SIM, don't activate it. You can simply install it and then check for updates over wifi. The G6 makes you wait 24 hours between each time you check for updates. You can either just wait until the next day or set system clock to a later date manually.
I've done this twice now to keep it updated. It's embarrassing that in 2018 LG can't push their own OTA updates.

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experience. I've been in the same situation and not had a chance to test this, so I'm sticking to original Nougat. I'll order ATT sim card and try.

Awesome thanks for the advice! Question, do you live outside the US? I'm wondering if this will work for people outside the US.
So I ordered a free SIM card from AT&T and tried the changing the date trick to trigger an update and SUCCESS it detected an update! Unfortunately though that's as far as I get.
Once the download is complete it goes through the whole Android is updating thing, reboots, but still shows as running Android 7 and that there is an update pending. If you attempt it again it seems like it has to download it all over again.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
Work outside AT&T coverage?

Does this method work If I am not from USA so No AT&T coverage?
I tried the trick ordered a the Sim and popped it in went to update found no update so assuming I actually have to purchase the cheapest plan to get on their Network even tried putting in the go Daily plan or whatever it was still didn't work said it wasn't available in my area and I'm in Los Angeles lol doesn't make any sense.

Hi, the best way to update to oreo is to use Hyelton'shttps://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g6/how-to/convert-upgrade-att-g6-to-h873-oreo-t3791848 method to convert it to either LG G6 H873 or LG G6 US997 oreo without bloatwares.
(Bloatwares are carrier applications that you cant normally just uninstall). That's what I did and am enjoying it, though without root because I don't think rooting this phone is currently possible.

If I convert to H873 or US997, does that mean the entire phone is recognized as an H873 or US997 model? Can I update Android Pie through it? (Since I know for a fact that it is released via OTA for H873)
Yes and No

You can update to pie but not over the air(OTA)
You can use the LGup app to update when you download the update.
If this helps you can hit the thanks button.

How to get latest ATT OTA/Firmware?

Hey Guys,
So I picked up the AT&T variant of the v35. I have been spending the last hour online trying to hunt down the latest firmware for this thing (looks like March) to manually get my device up to date. I have not been able to find anything. So I am trying to explore other options. I have T-Mobile. I tried popping my sim card in and checking for updates both with LTE on/off and wifi on/off. That didnt work. I then grabbed my wifes Cricket (AT&T) Sim card. Repeated the same process and still nothing. I also downloaded LG Bridge and tried to run an update. LG Bridge just error'd on with a trying to connect error. However, my phone was recognized in the lower status bar. The last thing I can think of is to maybe try and grab a Straight Talk 35 dollar sim card and try to update that way. With the hope that that proper AT&T registration network acknowledgements and handshaking happens so that my device can finally receive the OTA's over the network as it should.

You need to be AT&T customer to receive AT&T OTA updates on AT&T branded devices.

OK, you're the exception.
I still stand behind what I said. I've seen it too many times. The guy I replied to could not get an update even with Cricket SIM, and Cricket is OWNED by AT&T.

Go to the LG website and find your model of phone. Click on the Support Tab to the right. Then click on View Product Support. Scroll down to Software and Firmware, then to Help Library. Click on Software Update to see all of the updates that have been made and what they were for. You will need to use LG Bridge on your PC to update your phone if you did not receive it via OTA.

No, that's generic instructions for every carrier EXCEPT AT&T. You'll never get AT&T LG firmware that way. They only do FOTA.
AT&T doesn't allow KDZ via LG Bridge. If they did, there would be public AT&T KDZ available, as I've snagged other LG KDZ that way and even provided the LG Bridge Server DOWNLOAD URL links for people to download themselves, if they don't want to use my KDZ...
Sprint also doesn't allow LG Bridge downloads or public KDZ release for the same reason. Sprint doesn't sell the V35, but they sell other LG flagship phones.

Hello new to the v35 forums but I receive updates just fine. I'm using an unlocked at&t version of the phone running on straight talk, although straight talk uses AT&T towers which probably doesn't hurt lol

Make sure you have the APN setup exactly like Red Pockets instructions. Restart the phone after you do that, then make sure you have the 4G LTE indicator on the status bar.

Did all of that still no update. Jumped on WiFi check again still no update. I also set my date forward day after day for about 10 days trying to force the phone to contact the appropriate servers to get the update. Still nothing. And yes I have 4g LTE and full service.
Any other ideas?

Are you sure that your phone is due an update? What model do you have? I have a V35. Current security patch is dated Feb. 1. Software version is V350AWM12e.

Right. You can not. AT&T only does FOTA. You will never get AT&T LG firmware via LG Bridge nor from any official LG website.
AT&T does not release KDZ nor allow it to be released by LG.
Ok this is for the nay Sayers and people in doubt. So it turns out I actually have an at&t store in the plaza that I work in. My plaza is huge and the store is somewhat hidden so I simply didn't see it. Anyways I was getting ready to take my phone into the store to see if they could update it. But for the hell of it, I connected it to my work wifi and still using the red pocket sim, bumped the date time up by 5 days and did software update check. Boom! Updates started coming down. So what this tells me is that there could be something about geo location or even what cell tower your phone is connected too that it's checking for updates against. Lesson learned here I did not have a at&t account. I indirectly had an at&t through mvno reseller redpocket and was in fact able to get an OTA update from att.

LS997 on US99610p - no LTE or internet

I've researched and done as much homework as I can but I can't seem to find the solution, so I'm starting this thread in the hope that someone can point me in the right direction. I've had an LS997 on Sprint since it launched but recently broke the screen a second time. After getting a couple bum screens off ebay, I decided to just purchase a new V20. Found one on ebay that was an LS997 unlocked. Figured why not, hopefully it is rootable and I can do some stuff with it. Got the phone, swapped my SIM, chatted with Sprint customer support, and got the phone to receive calls and texts. However, it wasn't getting LTE coverage like my old V20 and could not connect to the internet via mobile network (WiFi works fine).
The new phone is an LS997 (FCC ID: ZNFLS997) with software US99610p, build number NRD90M, Android security patch April 1, 2018. I am guessing that part of the trouble here could be that I am unable to activate fully with Sprint since I am not on a Sprint ROM (no option to update PRL, profile). Are there any working Sprint-based ROMs out there that I haven't stumbled upon?
I'm also wondering if the missing Sprint bands on the US996 firmware is giving me issue. SignalCheck Pro shows my old phone bouncing between bands 25 and 26 at my house, and obviously the US996 firmware doesn't have band 26. With the new phone being LS997 hardware, is there any way for me to gain access to those bands (by flashing a modem, etc)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Rooted LS997 owner here. Yes, you have to be on a Sprint ROM to complete activation. Without completing that step, I don't think you can get everything to fully work on Sprint's network. The cross-flashed US996 firmware is useful for GSM networks around the world but not for Sprint or its MVNOs. Since Sprint does not provide firmware (KDZ) files, you'll have to go through the rooting process (check this guide) and then install a Sprint ROM (I recommend ClassicRom) at the end. If I remember correctly, there is a step during the rooting process where you flash some Sprint firmware that should take care of the modem part.

Seems you got lucky yourself on finding a rootable. I just got my new rootable ls997 last night. Have yet to run Dirty Santa to full root again. Very rare phone. I agree with C D here tho. Classic ROM is made specifically for ls997 and is the least buggy stock based custom ROM and is best for full activation. Also MK2000 BTTF Kernel is solid just in case.
I appreciate the responses! Looks like I'll be giving the Classic ROM a shot this week.
Good luck. And I second the recommendation for the mk2000 BTTF kernel (you can find it here).
One of the things this kernel does is get rid of LG's root checker called RCTD, which seems to log random things on rooted phones. You don't hear much about it any more because all the more recent ROMs have automatically gotten rid of it through their own kernel settings. I don't know a whole lot about RCTD itself, but if curious, there's some info here.
Also, the kernel allows you to change the KCAL screen color settings via a kernel manager like this one to help prevent any temporary screen retention (which you may already be familiar with). There are also some XDA threads where people posted different KCAL values that worked for them:

Upgrade ATT LG G6 to pie

I bought a used ATT LG G6 on Ebay to replace the LG G6 my husband is using. The only thing is, it's still on android 7, Nougat. My husband's current LG G6 is on Pie, and I would like to upgrade the new one to that, but OTA update says it is current and no update available. I tried to use LG Bridge and it says it can't check the software version. I found some instructions to use LG UP but it was something about using CDMA software and I know that won't work. I haven't found anything yet for GSM, so maybe I'm not looking in the right place. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I guess we could leave it on nougat but there's some apps he uses that won't work on that software. I'm also leery about it being unsafe without some newer security patches.
TIA for anyone who can help me.

To get the update, you need an active att sim, borrow one, then update. If it tells you to wait 24hrs or something like that, then change the date forward in the settings.
