Upgrade ATT LG G6 to pie - AT&T LG G6 Questions & Answers

I bought a used ATT LG G6 on Ebay to replace the LG G6 my husband is using. The only thing is, it's still on android 7, Nougat. My husband's current LG G6 is on Pie, and I would like to upgrade the new one to that, but OTA update says it is current and no update available. I tried to use LG Bridge and it says it can't check the software version. I found some instructions to use LG UP but it was something about using CDMA software and I know that won't work. I haven't found anything yet for GSM, so maybe I'm not looking in the right place. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I guess we could leave it on nougat but there's some apps he uses that won't work on that software. I'm also leery about it being unsafe without some newer security patches.
TIA for anyone who can help me.

To get the update, you need an active att sim, borrow one, then update. If it tells you to wait 24hrs or something like that, then change the date forward in the settings.

Thanks James101. I tried it with an ATT prepaid sim and it wouldn't. work. It just says "your device is up-to-date."

Mango and Hidden WiFi

Is there any clue to unlock the hidden wifi configuration on our LG Optimus ? This was the only feature I was waiting for...
I thought I saw a wifi option in the MFG menu
I'm looking for that answer too...MFG doesn't seem to have an option for hidden networks...has anybody figured out how to do it? It must be already available inside the software, but hidden (I think). Any help? Hidden wifi is one of the most desirable features for me...
+1 No Hidden WiFi support on the LG Optimus 7 - bummer.
I recently had a hardware fault, and LG were excellent.
But I will probably go HTC or Nokia for my next WP7 phone, as LG ommit things as simple as this. Shame.
Bummer. Is this an Optimus 7 only specific issue?
Yes, I don't have the link to the article but LG posted that they are working on releasing a new set of wifi drivers "soon" so .... maybe next year?
...next year I will buy another phone because there will be much better choices in the market...these updates should be done in les than 2 months. I think that MS and LG were quite loose in terms of their support. I want to buy an e900 (they are extremely cheap right now) for my woman and I'm thinking that I won't even be able to update it to Mango... (I had to force the update on mine, after I flashed another firmware)...Is this support? Even if it is already updated, I won't have my country's display language (as advertised). So, Microsoft gets us always into a risky, hacking procedure...Is this support?
I was waiting for Mango to get hidden network support and tethering (as advertised), and LG has just remembered that they have to make a new update for this function to work...after one month since Mango release...Is this support? I'll tell you what it is...Irresponsibility and inability to support their products...anti-professionalism.

Yeah, I don't remember anywhere saying that and of the LG phones would support tethering, and that it was also carrier unlocked feature... so if you were to use tethering, it was probably going to be a hack anyways.
As for the Mango update. I have an unbranded phone on a carrier that doesn't support it. As the updated were pushed by the carriers I had no issue with having to force mine, and really, it wasn't and harder than turning of my wifi when hitting update.
You are, of course, free to chose any phone you'd like. While I know I must wait for the Wifi tethering feature, and am not pleased by it, I will stick with my e900 as it beats any of the phones currently offered by AT&T.
Oh, and keep in mind this is a first gen phone, I do recall some other brands having issues on their first iteration. It's a small price to pay to be an earlier adopter.
Hope!
According to this, radio and/or firmware version 1.0.16.10 will bring tethering and hidden wifi support - yippee
I can't post a link -sigh- but it's on wmpoweruser dot com website
Yeah it's out now and brings support for Hidden Wifi + Internet Sharing.
Kinda funny how just 5 days ago people were complaining about LG and that the update won't be out until next year or might never be coming.
As far as I know LG is the very first to make these two features available to pre-Mango devices.
VodaFone UK
LG Optimus 7
Upgraded to 1.0.16.10 (without having to "force" it)
I can confirm that:
Internet Sharing
&
Hidden WiFi support
Works!

A Vodafone "Branded" version of an LG E900 of mine got the update, but my OPN version did not yet receive the update. I have also read that the OPN version gets an update, but that it will not enable tethering.
I tried to re-brand the phone but nothing happened.
I followed the guide by changing the "MobileOperator" key in the registry. It was "000-88" and I've changed it to "VOD-IT". Am I doing something wrong? "Carrier" in the about info still shows "OPN" and no updates on Zune.

Maybe you didn't do all the steps.
There were 3 key in registry to change in italian manual
Works really good.
I did the same (Ihave changed the info on all of the keys) for my second phone and still nothing (I don't want to flash it too). So, I'm waiting...
Me too.
In emergency case I'll try operator identifier registry keys change method

Verizon S8 with tmobile SIM - Cannot run system update

Neither on wifi nor cellular will it check for update. I get the error "sorry, we are having trouble authenticating your device"
Any idea how to fix this ?
wondering the same :/ anyone have anything?
see my post here. besides flashing the t-mobile ummm rom I guess over it, you won't be able to update. Well I'm confused then. I was able to do the last update with a t-mobile Sim in the phone? Right now when I try checking for updates it errors out saying it couldn't be authenticated. Anyone have any clue?
Hope I can help you!
How to update your system if you're not using the carrier from your S8(+) version.

you wont be able to updated through wifi or LTE unless you use a verizon SIM but you can do it easily using your computer and samsung smart switch.

Try to get at least an inactivated Verizon sim card from any Verizon store or you can also try a normal working Verizon sim. I had AT&T Galaxy S5 and it needed the carrier's sim card to even check for update. I took the sim, put it in, checked for update and was able to install it.
Fix to your issue
Hey guys so I do also share the same situation, I have a Verizon s8+ yet I have T-Mobile One as my coverage
Because it's not authenticated as a Verizon provided account it simply won't update
Now.. the solution to updating isn't directly on your device.
It's within the Samsung Smart switch App for either Mac or windows, you can run an update through there with little to no problems at all and finally keep your device up to date without having to return it for an unlocked one.
Just a brief note regarding the smart switch App, keep in mind that sometimes the update will freeze at a certain percentage on the computer so just be sure to close the app out only if your Samsung device hasn't received the green upload screen yet.
Hopefully this helps out alot of you guys ?
Best regards

I'd like to flash mine to t mobile, I'm begging you to help me with this!!!
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I've seen a bunch of info on the forums on how to flash the T-Mo ROM on an s8 - as well as flashing the Samsung Unlocked ROM on the s8 but frankly, almost all the threads are from back at the phone launch - and it is unclear to me which roms & programs to search for.
In a similar vein - I'm a noob to the whole process using oden - which I think is what i would need to use. I have experience from years ago running cyanogen mods on a nook tablet and messing with windows phones - but nothing recent and things have changed a lot.
I've read conflicting reports throughout the forums on doing this...
I'm running a VZW Branded (but it's now "unlocked")
Model: s8 SM-G-950U
Build #: NRD90M.G950USQS2BQL1
Baseband #: G950USQS2BQL1
What I'm looking for (really the right word is "NEED"):
Access to lower 700 A block (full band 12 use)
Ability to get OTA Updates
Mobile Hotspot Functionality
WiFi Calling
VoLTE
Bixby
If I could have these all running the Samsung Unlocked ROM - then that would be preferred...
If not - I would want to flash the T-Mobile ROM.
I need to know ASAP as I only have 14days from today (2/14/18) to figure this out or go back to VZW
Many thanks!

Update LG G6 AT&T H871 to Android 8

Hi everyone! i have a LG H871 ATT&T unlocked, I am living outside the US and I want to update the OS, it's running Android 7, But when i click update now it's says the Current software is up to date. the device is unlocked, what I can do?
LG Bridge doesn't work. It says it cant check my software version.
Anyone here have a solution?
Thank you in advance!
I've spent hours researching this and have only found one solution. You have to buy an ATT go phone prepaid SIM card for $2 and install it. Get a "Pay by the minute" plan (it won't let you checkout without selecting the plan, but you don't have to use it).
Once you get the SIM, don't activate it. You can simply install it and then check for updates over wifi. The G6 makes you wait 24 hours between each time you check for updates. You can either just wait until the next day or set system clock to a later date manually.
I've done this twice now to keep it updated. It's embarrassing that in 2018 LG can't push their own OTA updates.

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experience. I've been in the same situation and not had a chance to test this, so I'm sticking to original Nougat. I'll order ATT sim card and try.

Awesome thanks for the advice! Question, do you live outside the US? I'm wondering if this will work for people outside the US.
So I ordered a free SIM card from AT&T and tried the changing the date trick to trigger an update and SUCCESS it detected an update! Unfortunately though that's as far as I get.
Once the download is complete it goes through the whole Android is updating thing, reboots, but still shows as running Android 7 and that there is an update pending. If you attempt it again it seems like it has to download it all over again.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
Work outside AT&T coverage?

Does this method work If I am not from USA so No AT&T coverage?
I tried the trick ordered a the Sim and popped it in went to update found no update so assuming I actually have to purchase the cheapest plan to get on their Network even tried putting in the go Daily plan or whatever it was still didn't work said it wasn't available in my area and I'm in Los Angeles lol doesn't make any sense.

Hi, the best way to update to oreo is to use Hyelton'shttps://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g6/how-to/convert-upgrade-att-g6-to-h873-oreo-t3791848 method to convert it to either LG G6 H873 or LG G6 US997 oreo without bloatwares.
(Bloatwares are carrier applications that you cant normally just uninstall). That's what I did and am enjoying it, though without root because I don't think rooting this phone is currently possible.

How to get latest ATT OTA/Firmware?

Hey Guys,
So I picked up the AT&T variant of the v35. I have been spending the last hour online trying to hunt down the latest firmware for this thing (looks like March) to manually get my device up to date. I have not been able to find anything. So I am trying to explore other options. I have T-Mobile. I tried popping my sim card in and checking for updates both with LTE on/off and wifi on/off. That didnt work. I then grabbed my wifes Cricket (AT&T) Sim card. Repeated the same process and still nothing. I also downloaded LG Bridge and tried to run an update. LG Bridge just error'd on with a trying to connect error. However, my phone was recognized in the lower status bar. The last thing I can think of is to maybe try and grab a Straight Talk 35 dollar sim card and try to update that way. With the hope that that proper AT&T registration network acknowledgements and handshaking happens so that my device can finally receive the OTA's over the network as it should.

No, that's generic instructions for every carrier EXCEPT AT&T. You'll never get AT&T LG firmware that way. They only do FOTA.
AT&T doesn't allow KDZ via LG Bridge. If they did, there would be public AT&T KDZ available, as I've snagged other LG KDZ that way and even provided the LG Bridge Server DOWNLOAD URL links for people to download themselves, if they don't want to use my KDZ...
Sprint also doesn't allow LG Bridge downloads or public KDZ release for the same reason. Sprint doesn't sell the V35, but they sell other LG flagship phones.

Make sure you have the APN setup exactly like Red Pockets instructions. Restart the phone after you do that, then make sure you have the 4G LTE indicator on the status bar.

Right. You can not. AT&T only does FOTA. You will never get AT&T LG firmware via LG Bridge nor from any official LG website.
AT&T does not release KDZ nor allow it to be released by LG.
Ok this is for the nay Sayers and people in doubt. So it turns out I actually have an at&t store in the plaza that I work in. My plaza is huge and the store is somewhat hidden so I simply didn't see it. Anyways I was getting ready to take my phone into the store to see if they could update it. But for the hell of it, I connected it to my work wifi and still using the red pocket sim, bumped the date time up by 5 days and did software update check. Boom! Updates started coming down. So what this tells me is that there could be something about geo location or even what cell tower your phone is connected too that it's checking for updates against. Lesson learned here I did not have a at&t account. I indirectly had an at&t through mvno reseller redpocket and was in fact able to get an OTA update from att.

LS997 on US99610p - no LTE or internet

I've researched and done as much homework as I can but I can't seem to find the solution, so I'm starting this thread in the hope that someone can point me in the right direction. I've had an LS997 on Sprint since it launched but recently broke the screen a second time. After getting a couple bum screens off ebay, I decided to just purchase a new V20. Found one on ebay that was an LS997 unlocked. Figured why not, hopefully it is rootable and I can do some stuff with it. Got the phone, swapped my SIM, chatted with Sprint customer support, and got the phone to receive calls and texts. However, it wasn't getting LTE coverage like my old V20 and could not connect to the internet via mobile network (WiFi works fine).
The new phone is an LS997 (FCC ID: ZNFLS997) with software US99610p, build number NRD90M, Android security patch April 1, 2018. I am guessing that part of the trouble here could be that I am unable to activate fully with Sprint since I am not on a Sprint ROM (no option to update PRL, profile). Are there any working Sprint-based ROMs out there that I haven't stumbled upon?
I'm also wondering if the missing Sprint bands on the US996 firmware is giving me issue. SignalCheck Pro shows my old phone bouncing between bands 25 and 26 at my house, and obviously the US996 firmware doesn't have band 26. With the new phone being LS997 hardware, is there any way for me to gain access to those bands (by flashing a modem, etc)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Rooted LS997 owner here. Yes, you have to be on a Sprint ROM to complete activation. Without completing that step, I don't think you can get everything to fully work on Sprint's network. The cross-flashed US996 firmware is useful for GSM networks around the world but not for Sprint or its MVNOs. Since Sprint does not provide firmware (KDZ) files, you'll have to go through the rooting process (check this guide) and then install a Sprint ROM (I recommend ClassicRom) at the end. If I remember correctly, there is a step during the rooting process where you flash some Sprint firmware that should take care of the modem part.

Seems you got lucky yourself on finding a rootable. I just got my new rootable ls997 last night. Have yet to run Dirty Santa to full root again. Very rare phone. I agree with C D here tho. Classic ROM is made specifically for ls997 and is the least buggy stock based custom ROM and is best for full activation. Also MK2000 BTTF Kernel is solid just in case.
I appreciate the responses! Looks like I'll be giving the Classic ROM a shot this week.
Good luck. And I second the recommendation for the mk2000 BTTF kernel (you can find it here).
One of the things this kernel does is get rid of LG's root checker called RCTD, which seems to log random things on rooted phones. You don't hear much about it any more because all the more recent ROMs have automatically gotten rid of it through their own kernel settings. I don't know a whole lot about RCTD itself, but if curious, there's some info here.
Also, the kernel allows you to change the KCAL screen color settings via a kernel manager like this one to help prevent any temporary screen retention (which you may already be familiar with). There are also some XDA threads where people posted different KCAL values that worked for them:
