So when I connect my phone to my PC and enable file transfer, I try and copy or cut and paste files and it doesn't work. Yesterday I created a new folder where my pictures are stored by default. I then copied and pasted the pics from the main folder to the new one and it went through the motions but didn't display any. I refreshed and still nothing. I backed out of the directory and the folder said it was empty but so was my main pic folder. So it basically deleted everything instead of pasting them in the new folder. Is there an easy fix to this? Never had this issue with my note 3 and 4. Or any other phone for that matter. Is there like a Read/Write command to turn on or something? Seams like a pretty big flaw to not be able to cut paste files and they just get deleted....
Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated,
Never had any issues like this, both on encrypted and decrypted data. Try flashing the userdata again and see if the issue still persist.
Also, have you checked for the pics in Recycle Bin?

If it helps, I am not rooted and completely stock. How would I go about finding the recycling bin?
I have the same issue with my OP5 (decrypted)
Have you tried copy pasting?
Mine worked well when I did it (encrypted).
Just drag and drop, don't copy so much, try one folder at a time instead.
Also I'd never use cut and paste, if it fails you could end up in limbo with files missing.
Always copy.

You were moving pics from your PC to the phone, were you not?
Windows moves the files to Recycle Bin when you cut-paste.

No, just moving files from one folder to another within the phone. Just using the PC to play middle man to issue the command.

I am not concerned about the files as I have a backup. What concerns me is that the OP5 does this to begin with. I have had several iphones and several Samsung phones and never encountered this issue. That is a design flaw within the software. I was hoping to get an answer as to if this can be fixed or if it is just a flaw with OP5's operating system. Just seems odd this phone does that.

It doesn't happen to everyone. So we can't really talk about a design flaw in the software, otherwise it would affect every device. It's more like a random bug I guess.
As I said, when I got this device I successfully copied my files. Granted, it did seem to have missed a few files (2 Titanium Backup backuped files) and possibly more I did not notice so far.
I've noticed dodgy OTG on the O+5 never had it in a phone before
Because the copying is done by the operating system of your PC, shouldn't there be the problem? The phone is just connected by the internal storage as an external drive. Or is this a driver thing?

Well to me, bugs are inherently design flaws. lol But I don't want to argue semantics. I would just like to find a fix to this "design flaw"/bug. I can understand having a few files deleted or not transferred. But every single file that was selected, cut and pasted? That is just frustrating beyond belief. I just don't get why it does that to begin with. Never encountered this issue with any other phone I have done this same procedure with. I have no issues with transferring files from the pc to the phone. The problem is encountered when I am trying to do things with the internal storage. That is what is confusing me.
@strider5236, tried doing it again on decrypted data using Windows 10 and and Ubuntu 14.04. Moved with no issues. Encrypted data then did it again. No issues still.
Have you tried flashing the userdata image like I initially suggested?

There seems to be a bug in the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) between Android and Windows 10. It loses files while copying.

Hey everyone, I'm an idiot and completely forgot I encrypted the files on my SD Card. I installed a new ROM and now the images I previously had on the memory card are not able to be read by any software and the phone. My guess is, is that the encryption I had prior to flashing the new ROM has encrypted the file to where I can't even view them. Is there anyway to reverse this process? I know it defeats the whole prupose of encryption, but these pictures are important to me since they were pictures of my nephews at my cousin's wedding. I know they wouldn't be the greatest quality images, but I would still love to have them back. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated

Well, I have a feeling that you are out of luck here. Usually, encryption works with two keys: one at the source and one with the application that did the encryption. These keys are randomly generated. Since you wiped out the original ROM (and the encryption program and (probably) the 2nd key along with it), you are probably screwed. Sorry - wish I had better news. Now, there are special programs and stuff that break cryptography, and I don't know how secure the encryption with WM is, but that is probably not a practical solution. Sorry.
Well, that wasn't what I wanted to hear, but I feel it is the truth and accurate. I appreciate the response and explanation, thanks. Damnit, with my urgency to have the newest ROM, i lost some great pictures of family, oh well.
This is by design. The unique encription key is created during cold boot following a hardreset.

Ouch!!!!What a bummer
I almost did this with data on a PC which I sold last week. Copied files and tried opening them on my laptop. Luckily I still had the PC to unencrypt my FLICKS...LOL
Oops, that just reminds me I had an encrypted NTFS folder on the PC I upgraded to Vista last week (clean install). Usually never use that thing...
Meh, fortunately it was only an outdated copy of a folder I have on the main PC. But yeah, haven't even checked it, but there won't be any chance there either.
Fortunately I didn't encrypt my SD, as my phone now will just hang upon boot after I installed some program that screws up when loading the Today plugin. Hard reset in the way I guess... is there no safe boot in WM6?

short answer, no it needs to work in win mo first. back to the drawing board. first you need to unlock your phone with an unlocker, then you need to flash an official rom preferrably from your carrier that is GPS enabled, then you can run android and use GPS on it. many tuts around. if you did all of this already, you didn't do it right. also, some programs in win mo require GPS to be primed before working. make sure to use something like google maps to test in win mo.
I'm curious. What's so great about Android on the phone?
I'm using Windows Mobile 6.1 and the phone seems to run fine.
Are there clear cut advantages or is it just "something different"?

functionality wise I think you can achieve the same thing on Windows mobile with the right apps. Just the cool stuff like oooooo are not there on Winmo

Run Android from your sd card via haret. Then you can have winmo and android.
im having issues, I have the original 512mb card in the phone formatted twice with fat32 partition. Copied the 6 files from your zip file and flashed the nbh file via the windows ruu flasher all was good. Boots with the linux penguin but I get to the state where it says losetup: /dev/block/loop0: No Such file or directory Failed
Failed to mount data fs on SD Card.
/bin/sh1 can't access ttyl job control turned off.
Then it just sits there.
Help, I'm playing around with this on my partially broken vogue (have my good one running winmo) so I can fool around with it but I've tried everything I could.
Thanks
Have try it on my Kaiser... I know for sure it will not work.. and indeed... loop between reset and the HTC logo
is this different than the one dzo made?
my mistake i made the zip file really quick last night i will redo it. Apparent i didnt rename datablank.img to data.img i will fix and reupload but all you have to do is make sure the file is data.img
The link in the first post has been updated to reflect this change. My apologies.

If that is only the difference then we can rename it itself if you already have the files.
Question: Can you also replace the system.sqsh with a build you like?
(When you know for sure it is working.. beside if GPS/Bluetooth is working.)
And in the ROM there is: zimage, initrd and haret.exe?
the flash will not work on a Kaiser have try the new ZIP file.
I flashed this rom and it was very nice, but when i tried to sync my google account, it force closed and my contacts never synced. Is there a fix to this?
Can someone also make a Flashable rom for KAISER ... thanks..

Try scanning the card for errors. Aslo note that the data file needs to be named data.img. Between those 2 ideas you problem should be solved.

Even running natively instead of haret i have noticed battery life really sucks and i'm just talking about standby mode. Using the same programs on android as winmo i get about a third of the battery life. Can anyone recommend any battery saving tip. GPS is on only when needed and data is always on. I will not turn data off as it is always on in winmo and i have no issues with winmo.
basically my motorola atrix doesn't work any more!!
the bit of the screen which is meant to be used to access the buttons bellow, work as though you are pressing the bottom of the visible screen!!

I suspect it is cause by me formatting every single folder on the internal storage using clockwork recovery...
i have tried installing the original Rom using RSD, i have tried everything!!!
ANY HELP PLEASE?
the device is a piece of garbage now!
i saw that NO ONE else has reported this issue anywhere on the net!!
it can't be a hardware problem cause it was working before i formatted all of those folders! including the ones with the 3 character names... can't remember the names... but basically i formatted everything...
this is a common problem when you format / partition the internal memory. it screws up your PDS partition, which i hope you backed up. search a little more, there are lots of topics on this in the dev forum and I believe there MAY be a solution but i don't remember.
Just found a couple of threads...
I didn't back it up... does this mean that my Motorola atrix is practically worthless now? :s

Well, if you look in the post i linked to, it is an image that i pushed into the partition...
it's working now at least!
I do have my mac address and IMEI, do you know how i can edit that image file to put my own values in it? i have no clue as to how the image can be edited.... :/
the reason i did that was because i had an HTC HD2 before. it originally comes with windows, and so when you installed Android, it had a horrible process... in that process, the MAGLDR and CWR as they were called, did not erase every folder in the phone's main memory... so i had gotten used to formatting them individually in that phone.. that's why i did it on the Atrix...
also, in the HD2 they were folders not partitions... so basically, i wasn't familiar with the exact core of Motorola android devices...
there must be a way to put in my own hardware details into the PDS image file?

I can copy large and multiple small files TO the Nexus 4 no problem with MTP.
Copying FROM the device to PC is always finicky. I resorted to qtADB for that.
But whenever I tried to rename a file or folder thru MTP, Explorer hangs and not responding. I have to kill it via Task Manager to gain back control.
It's getting really annoying picking up my phone just to rename a folder.
For what its worth, I use Windows 8 64-bit, Nexus 4 with AOKP build 2, franco.kernel r68-test.
Any body can help me?

I don't think I have your problem but regarding recovering from Explorer hanging (which I have experienced before for x other reason with MTP) I find that the hanging will stop once the phone is unplugged. That should be a less intrusive way than using the Task Manager. Let me know if that method works for you too.

On my previous LG Optimus L7, Explorer crash when I copy multiple files to the device. I had to resort with the ol' and trusty method of USB card reader.
It's alot better on the Nexus 4, though. Copying files to the device is all good. Copying from the device and renaming files are where the problem lies.
I hate this. At least iTunes is somewhat reliable for the iPhone.
Granted, MTP is necessary for phones without microSD slot, because Android use EXT file system which not readable by Windows. To allow USB Mass Storage mode, the manufacturer has to partition the phone storage, one is EXT for Android system and apps, the other is FAT32 for user data. We also hate that configuration, since it will limit app storage.
But I still hate how unreliable MTP is.

I have same problem with my Galaxy S3.
I looks like that the root of problem is Windows 8 64-bit. I didn't have such problem when I used it under Windows 7 64-bit.
To me, it took more than 20 minutes to rename a file. Well.. As you expected, Explore was not responding.
However, once finishing renaming successfully, there was no "not responsing" to rename files until detatching my phone.
windows 8 is definitely the problem, I have all kinds of issues between android phones and Win8, where I never had any issues before "upgrading" to win8. I wish i had a solution but i dont. Maybe it would be easier to rename the files using a native file explorer, if you are rooted.

Same annoyance here, but for once I let Explorer "hang" for up to 2 whole minutes while renaming a folder, and I discovered it finally did rename, just requires patience.
hi guys,
i know this is an old thread..
i was just curious to know if someone has already got a solution to this.
i can confirm, that this has to do with windows 8-64bit.
i had never experienced any problems with MTP and windows before windows 8-64bit.
Sorry to bump such an old thread but did you guys solve the problem? Did you find some kind of workarround?
Thanks in advance
I can't believe this is still a thing. Absolutely infuriating.
Yeah, I would've hoped this would be fixed by now. The only work around I found is just to create the folder name you want on Windows and drop it into Android. Then use Android to delete the old folder.
If you're moving old files to the new folder from Android. Then you want to use Android file explorer to move the files you want to it. If you use Windows to do it, it's going to take a while, as if you're copying new files from Windows to Android again.
Any word if Lollipop would fix this issue?

Lollipop has not fixed the issue........ Is there a solution somewhere that I've missed? I've been searching since I upgraded to 8.... I know this is a very old thread but I can't find anything....
I don't have a complete solution but I've discovered a workaround. When renaming a file, rather than clicking outside of the text area after typing the new name, instead press enter to confirm and it doesn't lock up (in my case). Been having the same issue with my S3 previously and S5 currently ever since I've used MTP.
I have this problem only one solution for me is F2FS. But I'm on FlexOS with OnePlus and it does not support F2FS

Same thing here. I'm running Windows 8.
Went to copy some photos and it copies like half of them or 3/4 of them and then it freezes. If you copy your images individually it'll work, thankfully I don't have a ton of them so I just did it that way, but it'd probably be really annoying if you have a lot of pictures and not even work it.

And my file transfer is since 4.2 much slower than normal. Very annoying.

Went to copy some photos and it copies like half of them or 3/4 of them and then it freezes. If you copy your images individually it'll work, thankfully I don't have a ton of them so I just did it that way, but it'd probably be really annoying if you have a lot of pictures and not even work it.

Thanks a bunch! So glad its not just my device. I tried fully wiping and reflashing the factory image but the bug is still there.
