Latest ROM advice- most stable Nougat? - Xperia Z2 General

Hi all,
Looked around forum but can't find up to date recommendations...
I'm looking to take the plunge into custom, non-stock-based roms and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good ROM that is totally bug free, preferably Nougat?
Thanks in advance :highfive:

no rom in any phone is "totally bug free"

Not even stock lol

I beg to differ!
What I mean is: a ROM that is as stable as and has same functionality as the stock ROM ( though I am aware that I lose DRM features with UB).

Carbon rom is good for you and its the most updated
But all of nought roms almost share same bugs that some users reports
I myself didn't have a single problem using Carbon,LOS,RR
but as i said carbon is the most updated

I've just discovered that my phone has the "Bootloader unlock allowed: No" in the system configuration menu, so it looks like I can't unlock...
Is there any new way around this?

What happened to the LineageOS ROM?

Anyone know?

Well, yeah, but why?
It's rather odd it disappeared with no notice, the thread closed, and the image files removed.
Almost as if something nasty was happening behind the scenes
Im still using the latest version of it, and i really have no reason to change since it works great.
But im left wondering if i should change because they may be something nefarious in the code or something similar?

I've been pondering the same thing.
Currently I'm on the 23.5.A.1.291 version, it works but is vulnerable to some of the exploits which have surfaced since that was built by Sony.
I use the Sony SBH54 bluetooth headset with it, if I go for a custom ROM I suspect I might have some problems with it. It mostly works now but isn't bug free by any stretch of the imagination, it will lose connection and reconnect as it pleases. Most irritating.
If I go down the unlocked bootloader path I'll lose the DRM _stuff_ for the camera but I've not got a good idea of how much difference that makes.
I've not run a custom ROM on my main phone, always on tablets and experimental things and none of them are Sony with it's extra quirks, I'm thinking the TA partition here.
How many of you use non-stock on your primary devices?
What problems do you encounter?
On my tablet I've lost data a few times as I've tried something which didn't work, I don't want that to happen on my phone!

If you want to update to ics, you can just get a ftf of the firmware and flash it.

Hi mate, a few months ago I was in the same boat. I build PCs, understand basic programming, etc etc but it's a whole new world these android phones! Haha very humbling to go from the guy everyone asks for answers
To the guy who has nothing but questions. Anyway point is I can relate.
When im at my pc a bit later I'll gather up all my bookmarks and links and dump em here for you! 99% of what you need is buried here in xda land so in the mean time... Start reading! Haha

if you've rooted your phone I'd recommend "sysTune" from the store - it's an easy way to change the running priorities in that you simply afford each process a number between -20 and +19 - the processes with the lowest numerical settings are given the highest priority and vice versa - it's an easy way to keep the speed right where you want it, and it's great for a really smooth launcher

Just with reference to this question, when I found out that ICS was available for my phone I just relocked my bootloader and upgraded via PC companion. However, my suspicions were confirmed from first boot into ICS, all the custom roms I had been using were much better!
But I thought you should know its very possible to relock your bootloader, so you might as well try a few custom roms while you wait for ICS.
Ive had my arc for about 6 months now and I have tried all the kernels and roms I could find, I reached the conclusion that Arconium ICS v4 Get Arconium ICS V4 here was the best for me. Im currently using Arcknight RC3 Get Arcknight Kernel here as my kernel but I have heard good things about using the stock kernel with CWM.
If your going to delve into the world of custom roms and kernels send me a PM and I would be happy to help with the processes you will need to go through.
The way I see it, there is no point in us both doing the 6 months of experimentation when I easily share what I've learnt with you

Yep, you can't backup the DRM keys, but you won't know the difference if you follow the guide to restore DRM functions (camera etc...)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/drm-function-restore-t2995798
Note: you have to modify updater-script in the zip if you want to use with MultiROM or non-CM recovery..
They use "z3" to detect device, but actually it should be "leo"...
If someone can contact to CM team, please tell them to change it.
What are the know issues of the nightlies known so far? I know that RIL now works thanks to David_vaz, but are there any major issues or just random reboots/bugs?
No reboots whatsoever, one thing that is bothering me is I can't play YouTube in 720p & 1080p.. Other than that it's awesome.. Smooth as silk

BTW I think you should flash this Rom with cwm recovery instead of flashing it with twrp to avoid some issues

I know, but it's just a problem for managing and they can avoid it like "leo (z3)".
Also, there is no download for HTC HD2 although there is device tree for it...

They should use "leo" to detect device since it is codename for our device.
It will create futile confusion for devs.

I saw you installed the David Vaz CM build.. Does the flashing using CWM still apply? Or is it fixed with the official CM Nightlies?
Sorry for asking so many questions, but I'm just trying to pinpoint the problems with it before jumping the ship and rooting.. I originally planned on waiting for either the official Lollipop build from Sony, or for the Locked Bootloader exploit to come around.. but if theres a build of CM that seems to be not too many issues with, I might jump the ship

Cataclysm mod

Does anyone know if cataclysm mod will work on mhc19l? I tried but only make it to splash screen.
Seems like you've answered your own question. If you're only getting the splash screen, that means this most recent update is no longer compatible with catamod files. Catamod is only a handful of files, but any of those changed with this most recent update, which I believe many have, then it wont work.

Unfortunately, no.. I haven't upgraded to MHC19I yet because of this reason but probably will soon. IMO the closest thing is xposed + gravity box since it uses the stock rom as the base and adds mods on top of it which is similar to how Cata works. I haven't used xposed in a while but probably will give that set up a try soon for the bluetooth bug fixes, etc. in the latest build. But I sure wish @atl4ntis would come back to us.. sigh..
As far as I can tell there are no other custom stock based ROMs out there for the 6P other than ones that just "debloat" the stock ROM but add no features, which I'm not really interested in. I've been checking out the Pure Nexus thread and it seems like another good option-- AOSP based instead of stock but seems to be well maintained and there seems to be a lot of positive feedback on it so I might also give that a shot. In between both options right now...

all custom roms sucks...as much you gain from them you loose more

I tried every rom posible and all have the biggest bug ever ...at least for me it is but nobody is talking about ...there is something i don't know ? there is no need to be mean to my question but why all roms have this problem with keeping the playstore apps updated ...why the apps revert to previous versions and why this is hapening only to custom roms ?.. if then i ask you what is the use of custom roms? ...
these days even a five years child can root install a custom cwm , a custom kernel a viper4 sound mod and debloat a original stock rom
Lol.
I haven't experience anything like that, in any Roms i have flashed.

a custom rom is exactly what it says it is, a customised version of the original android operating system that somebody has, in their own precious time, played around with to try & give us something a little different for this ageing device. Chances are that if you went out tomorrow & bought an S7 edge & fired it up you would have to update some gapps, whichever you may use. I think you need to take a deep breath & have a little more appreciation & understanding for the things that go on here. If a 5 yr old is able to do what you claim then maybe you should turn your hand to contributing to the community................... but thats just my opinion......no offence intended
Is this guy for real? Apps simply don't revert to previous version after you update them. There's a simple setting in the playstore that allows auto update of your installed apps to the latest version when they become available. And is this how you lose from custom Roms? Lololololol I thought your device blew up or melted.
Buy an IPhone and explain us how cool is it. You'll enjoy it, for sure
Pls close delete this thread its useless.

Believe it or not, but I have seen similar behavior with some of my apps.
I update it dl today and tomorrow I have to update again, but there doesn't seem to be any changes in the changelog.
But this happens rarely.
So I believe the OP exaggerates. This also started happening only recently, so it's either something related to the new Android updates - which means older ROMs (5.1 and below) should be safe - or something related to gapps.
To everyone who asked for this thread to be closed and/or brought up the fact it's in the wrong place, why did you not click on the little triangle at the bottom left of the post and report it? Mods can't do anything about it if they don't know there is an issue.
As to the OP, I actually tried keeping an Android 2.3.3 ROM's Google apps up to date - one of the features of the ROM I offered. To do that I didn't include anything but the Play Store. Today, such a task would be difficult. If you like, you can download a GApps package from OpenGApps on a daily basis and flash it yourself.

+1 for Pure Fusion, I get up to 10 and a half hours screen on time with better performance than I get on OOS, noticeable by eye.
Ultimately, you may find a better combination out there, but the baseline for me is Fusion, it just works as it should, stamina and power.

Super smooth, absolutely as fast as Oxygen OS. I always use "GApps" and here U should choose "ARM64" and "7.1". I recommend you to use either "Nano" or "Pico", but you could choose whatever you want!
1. Flash the ROM in TWRP
2. Flash GApps
3. Flash Magisk/Super SU (If U want to be rooted)

Yea mate it's always the latest version of the Rom, I always clean flash too.
I've tried all the Rom's on XDA for the Oneplus, No limits for me is the best OOS Rom (personal choice) but overall and for the things I need from it, plus Displaylink technology works indefinitely on it, on OOS Rom's it cuts out after around 9 minutes which is a deal breaker for me.
10 hours SOT is superb.

Basicly:
Encrypted = Makes it more difficult for people who are not authorized to access information stored on the phone. You are thus safer when the phone are encrypted.
Decrypted = Opposite to Encrypted. The benefit with this one compared to Encrypted is a better performance.
You can check what U use by going to the settings menu, then head over to "Security & fingerprint", scroll down to the bottom and done.
PS: I am Decrypted!

before anyone drops any more advice here to this user, please be aware that narrating the entire learning process for flashing makes you partially responsible for what happens to this users phone.
@dzesiu2002 i strongly advise you to do research on all of these topics before going any further. you could end up wasting a lot of your time or worse: breaking your phone.
research research research. for everyone's sake. i'm not trying to be mean. this is the best advice anyone can give you.

This. Also, not trying to be rude and it's awesome that everyone is so willing to help, but I don't think spoonfeeding is the best option. OP has tons of questions (many that are simple and can easily be answered with self-research).
As the user I quoted mentioned, you should visit other threads that have instructions and information on flashing, encrypt vs. decrypt and so on!

Man, i have much phones all of them always have custom rom and kernel, so i never brick the device... All rom, kernel have in own thread installation process and i going with it, newbie for sure will brick the device, if i flashed much devices without a break them, then really you still think im newbie ? Cmon in my thread in #1 post, i dont write " its my first time with flashing the device, am noob or something like that " Newbies having 100% understandable tutorial about unlocking BL, install TWRP or Root the device, but they still ask for help, did you see anywhere in OP5 section about i needed help with that ? First of all, im not stupid and know any flash is risk, but if device bricked then this is not the fault of the author of the topic, only it is the fault of the user who carried out the installation wrongly. This post is for you and means you have to post something like this in threads people who really are green and dont know anything about flashing.

i am NOT calling you stupid. i AM definitely calling you a newbie.
the questions you have been asking are very rudimentary when it comes to flashing ROMs. regardless of your previous experience, it is still best that you do a lot more reading. this obviously isn't what you want to hear, but it is as true as truth can be. if you don't know what encryption is, then you shouldn't be trying to work around it. you should be figuring out what encryption is in the first place.
