what about microG? - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Has anyone tried microG instead of Google apps. I have read that it saves lot of battery.
All Gcm and play services are replaced with microG.
If yes please share your experience.
Thanks in advance.
Edit:Sorry I just created new thread accidentally.
I had to post in Resurrection Remix rom thread

Tried it myself with first InvictaOS when Silesh.Nair provided it, but don't have additional battery backup. That was my experience over approximately 2 weeks of usage.

I've been using it on Lineage for a while, works quite well, the few programs depending on Play Services also don't complain. I can't really say if battery life actually changes, I still get similar battery life, perhaps it's a bit better, but the reason might be that now I mainly got slim F-Droid Apps installed instead of bloated Apps from the Play Store.

What's the best custom rom for me?

Hello.
Yes, i know. You read the question not for the first time. But I have a problem. Until 4 months I have "XtreStoLite" used. But this ROM will not be further developed. Since then I have used on my G900F about 10 new ROM's (longer term). But none were nearly as good as that of edgarf28.
I need: a clean ROM without Samsung Apps or similar, the battery has a long hold (the biggest problem of all my tested ROM's!), And a newer version, as XXU1BOD3 (the last XtreStoLite version).
I've tested: SIXPERIENCE, Omega, SpaceX, PhoeniX, Space Rocket, Pure Rome, Galaxy Project, NeatROM, Maverick and many more. Please no CyanogenMod, because I do not like the "design".
Currently I have the Pure N5 Port v6.5 ROM installed. I like very well, however, the battery does not last long. I've also been to other kernel versions looked but found nothing really. (How've also probably noticed her, I do not speak very good English - Google translator helps ^^)
I hope you can help me - clean ROM without third apps, fast, stable, and long battery life.
Sorry for the bad English and I know that there was this issue often enough. But I just can not find the right one for me
Many many thanks in advance !!!
Please help me...
Use the stock firmware. Flash the URWsoft debloater http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/mod-urwsoft-barebone-cleaner-t3043479
Okay, thank you very much. But what's with the "xXx No Limits ROM"? Or is the stock rom much better? I try in this moment G900FXXS1BPC3/G900FDBT1BOJ1/G900FXXU1BOJ1/G900FXXS1BPC3 (download from SamFirm).
What is with the kernel? original? or another?
Thank you so much!
Okay. I have the newest stock lollipop (5.0.) on my phone and i've installed the cleaner. The rom is okay, a little bit old (without themes ) - but okay. But the battery still discharges relatively quickly?! A another kernel? Dou you have a tip? Thanks
Xtrestolite 2.2 is the BEST ROM FOR THE GALAXY S5!!!
I always go back to it after trying alot of roms..
Contact me if you want the link for the rom
I do not understand why he does not do such a great ROM on. And yes, please give me a link. I have the ROM accidentally deleted a month ago It would be glad if you write to me - But I have with the stock ROM & Cleaner the same effect as with the XtreStoLite, or am I wrong?
I also had the issue that my battery didnt last long.. I removed my 3rd Party lockscreen App CMLocker and Facebook. Now my battery lasts much longer.
I don't have CMLocker. And on Facebook, I can not do without ... at XtreStoLite it went so well. Now have the kernel "Boeffla" kernel flashed. Let's see what it does.
The Facebook app drains the battery. You can still use Facebook via a mobile browser. Just as usable. The app causes too many problems

Gapps impact on a ROM...

According to the experience of you guys, it's a good idea to not use gapps?
What's the advantages and disvantages?
We get more free ram or performance boost?
I think it would be a good idea if everyone put your experiences here, AOSP, LineageOS or another rom, don't hang back...
Thank you

Of all the ROMs I have used, I've always installed the pico Gapps, because I need the Play Store and YouTube. Initially, when the ROM is clean, and when I install everything I use, the ROMs work pretty smooth, though overtime, I seem to be getting less and less free RAM each day after rebooting, and the performance overall seems to progressively degrade. I clean the cache every now and then, but that doesn't seem to affect performance in a long-term much.
StryFlex MM 2.1 is the most durable non-Stock custom ROM in my experience, but even that likes to go a bit slow after a while.
I haven't ever lived without Gapps yet though, so I can't speak for how it is without it, though I've heard it makes a big difference, and it's logical if it does.
On Stock ROM (4.3), the Google stuff don't appear to be making the phone slow, I've used Stock for about the same time as any other stock ROM, and it didn't seem to get slower over time, though the user interface feels a bit weird now coming from MM and N.
The huge benefit with no gapps is the battery life, but that just it.
RAM wise it doesn't result in any better result, at least in my tests. Your results may vary
If you do not rely on Google services, it's fine.
Since I do use some of Google's services, I cannot avoid installing gapps, and the one i use is Pico package.
Oh if you want to use YouTube without gapps, i heard it can run with microG.

Well, buying a new phone of course would make it feel better compared to XSP, but in the end, it will still suck the battery of any devices. :l
It improves performance a lot and the phone feels much more responsive. But I tested it only for couple of hours since I need Google Apps for daily usage. Its possible the performance may eventually degrade after using for a much longer period even without Google Apps.
Gapps HUGELY degrades performance on X-SP. It's not so much about RAM, to put it simple, Gapps is doing "something" in background that Xperia SP don't like it at all. You can't imagine how much Gapps slows down this phone until you try a ROM without Google apps.
Running any of the Android 6, 7, 8 on this phone WITHOUT Gapps will give a new life to this old device. No more hickups, no more stuttering keyboard and the battery life is very good.
I run AOSP Extended Nougat without Gapps and it's the best experience I've ever had on this phone. I've just installed microG package and I have all Google services I need: Play Store, Maps, YouTube, GCM notifications, no problem at all.
I've stopped using Gapps nearly a year ago.
The phone can store more apps in ram, so multitasking is better and there are no freezes after turning wifi on.
The only disadvantage for me is that not all apps will work without play services.

What is/are your favorite ROM(s) for the G4 Play?

So I've been meaning to try out some new ROMs lately and I'm wondering if any of yallz have any favorites or recommendations to throw my way. Currently I'm running the latest Resurrection Remix build for this beloved device and have been stuck on it for a while. It seems many of our ROMs have stopped in terms of development so I'm looking for direction in what to try. Thanks!

It's an efficient ROM on most platforms (typical for AOAP). I do not run it on my G4P as stock MM w/Xposed and a few kernel tweaks is a better match for my needs in this device.

I gave lineage a shot as one of my first ever custom OS's but it seemed to be lacking in customization. Last I remember there's no stable substratum support or anything of that sort and I love my colors haha. Maybe I'll give it another go though. Feel free to add anything to persuade me!

Yes I ran a deodexed MM stock rom for a while with xposed but I feel as if xposed gets messy (could just be me going crazy with the availabilities.) Definitely lots of fun tho. A couple hours ago I installed xposed over RR just to see what would happen and it didn't do me over like I thought. It worked well but xposed isn't the route I wanna take at this time.
Thanks for your answers!

Of the ROMs mentioned RR is probably the most customizable (w/o add ons) followed by AEX and Lineage. Each suits a different audience. Enjoy the hunt.
i have been on the rom that no one talks about much and i have been on it for months.i try to switch but keep falling back..its the VIPER ROM...its been very stable..good battery life...everything works..GPS is best among all roms..i dont know what they have done but i get a fix pretty fast...i am looking for an alternative but havent found anything that comes close in stablity and function.it may not be as customizable as RR or aospextended...but its very smooth ..even on stock kernel.give it a try if you may....https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620760488

Need ROM Suggestion for Xiaomi Redmi2/ Wingtech Redmi2/ wt88047/ HM2014811-8 ...

This post was created keeping in mind that no Ideal ROM exists for Redmi 2.
Hello Everyone,
I am in a desperate need of a custom ROM for Redmi 2 (1GB variant) that has the following features:
1. I need an android upgrade from Kitkat, even Lollipop will be fine cuz few Apps now partially does not works on my device.
2. I don't need another Heater for my home.
3. I don't want my battery level to go to zero from 50% just in two consecutive unlocks.
4. I don't want any App FCs especially for Apps like Clash Royale, Screen Recorders.
5. Little lags will be fine but not like MIUI Lollipop.
6. No WIFI disconnect Issues.
7. No Aggressive GApps, MIUI like GApp optimization.
8. Even a featureless ROM like AOSP will be fine.
And also tell me about the Kernel and other tweaks you all are using along with it.
EDIT: What I was looking for - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74780443&postcount=13
Thanks to @shhnedo and @SidOfficial
1. Enable USB debugging
2. Flash twrp via fastboot
3. Pick a rom from the development section.
Pretty much all 7.1.2 roms are rock solid.
DotOS is a new one so you may wish to avoid it if you're not willing to try for yourself.
You could start with LineageOS. I personally flashed ViperOS 3.1.1 on a 1GB variant with OpenGapps Pico package and it works very well.
I don't see much kernel related stuff around here, though...

I have already tried LineageOS and ViperOS..
I flashed it with the mentioned process, I don't know what went wrong, but my device overheats a lot..
And then there is battery drain even when my device is in idle state.
Battery Life was just 2-3 hours, but in MIUI in 12 hours, it just reached to 50%.
Google Play Services are very aggressive all the time.

This is not normal. Not for a somewhat healthy battery, at least. As I said, I've flashed ViperOS on a 1GB variant and I'm positive I would've heard a complaint if battery life was unacceptable.
If you meant SOT was 2-3 hours, that's another story.

When I was on AEX Rom, overheating issue was not there, but App FC problem was there.
Battery's temperature was around 42 - 45 C on all LOS based ROMs even in the idle state whereas in MIUI it's just about 30 C.
Meanwhile, can u send me the battery usage details of your device?
Thanks in advance.

I still can't see how a custom rom(even though a Nougat one) can drain the battery in 3 hours. Based on what you showed me so far, I can't say anything. I know you said google services are aggressive, but I don't know what that means(I don't know YOUR definition of "aggressive" ).
Facebook and Facebook Messenger are notorious for their battery hogging. Use the Lite versions. Both are available on play store.

@Vikhyat01 Do u have any suggestions for me?
Viper OS is no doubt the best custom ROM for our device.
I suggest you to do a clean flash of Viper OS with stock kernel, pico GApps , magisk and Greenify4Magisk.
And for me the battery drain is almost equal to MIUI .
1gb 2014818 Same Here.
Stick with Miui KitKat (only rom stable and good)
Custom roma sucks on our 1gb ram ddr2.
Miui Tweaks -
1) turn off all animation's
2)Miui optimization (Turn Off) Multitasking is possible.
3)Use Greenify with plugin turned on in xposed framework , to close apps quickly.
4)Optional- uninstall system apps like live wallpaper , mi drop, mi account , mail, etc.
Clash Royale Consumes at least 500mb ram.
I face fc while dual battling with too many troops on screen(major problem).
COC with Poweramp Music players works ok.
I keep default chrome, google keyboard(less ram consume) which comes with miui 7.
I dont waste time flashing new roms for the device coz after 5 to 10 days of use i miss miui camera and audio output and revert back to miui kk. As it is quick in opening apps and working.
My Rom - Miui Global 7.5.3.0 (Miui 7)
And custom kernel which i tweaked myself to fix multi task problem while switching coc account "i get fc "
If u want the kernel i will provide u the link. Its stock kernel , just fixed background freeze.
Thats according to my experience since 3 years.

This is really working, make back up and try it just for once,
BTW, haven't faced App FC in This ROM.
Check the screenshots:
450mb free RAM + in 14 hrs battery drain was 48% to 2%.
Also, you can get MiA1 ported camera.

Ordered a OP6T and about to arrive. Help me find the icing on the cake

So my plan is to test the hardware first, and see if there's anything faulty, and then proceed into unlocking the bootloader.
I'm searching for a combination of:
>Very good stability
>A good battery life & no random draining
>Least grounbreaking bugs as possible
>Lots of customization (I like to tweak every possible aspect of the OS) & theming
I don't do a lot of gaming, mostly random games, few minutes per day while I'm on the WC.
So, my question is: should I go for Oxygen OS + rooting and sleep soundly or is there a combination of ROM and Kernel that takes the most out of the 6T respecting my requisites? Hit me up with your opinions!
P.S. No I'm not lazy and yes, I've read the ROMs threads but I would like some real life opinions.
I haven't touched a custom ROM yet and I've been really happy with OxygenOS!
I'm on stable 9.0.13 and active drain seems good but idle drain, not so much. I lose about 10%-14% overnight...
Wasn't the case on .12 and your results may vary on that.
For theming I use substratum and it works pretty well!
I'd like to try custom ROMs but I'm a heavy Tasker user and my profiles now heavily work with OxygenOS. I'd have to do a lot of modifying to get working well with AOSP.
Also, I've read about small bugs like choppy display corners and buggy fingerprint reader on custom ROMs as well. Not trying to bash any custom ROM, just explaining why I have stuck with OxygenOS.
I am strongly considering going to Open Betas though, as updates seem more frequent and security patches are more up to date there as well. I opened up a thread asking about the stability of Open Beta and its all been positive!
Hope this helps.
International ROM plus xXx is and root is nice place to start.
You know that the OP7 is 12 days from release and that the price for the 6T will probably go down, right?
Other than that, the best battery would be .11 if you don't mind the security patch. Just use that + Magisk and you can't go wrong.

I like Oxygen OS. If I were making a custom ROM it would be just like OOS.
I am confident OOS will suite your needs and meet your requisites.

Running stock Beta 9; Magisk 19.1 and ElementalX 3.15.

Rock solid.
I'm a big advocate of stock ROMs + root
Most ROMs can get buggy, not dexopt apps etc
Stock is smooth and works perfect.
Add magisk and win
