[SOLVED] Did I just soft brick my phone? - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

I just rebooted my phone into recovery mode using this quick reboot pro app, it worked fine, I just wanted to test out the app so I wanted to reboot. I pressed the reboot button in TWRP, I pressed system, I saw the boot logo, but it didn't boot and it just entered the TWRP. I tried to reboot again, the same thing happened. I'm basically stuck in the recovery. I didn't try wiping data and cache or anything like that, I don't want to mess up my phone more. Can someone help me out here, I don't know what to do to fix it

Or just reflash twrp with odin. This will reset the reboot flag.
As said use the button combo to boot to recovery and you won't have an issue.

Stock on Samsung Logo with Custom Lock Image

I had Mint Jelly2.1 installed and everything was working fine.
it started when I had used the APK Hide It Pro. I was in the process of hiding videos and I noticed that my phone got rebooted and got stock in the Samsung boot up image with the Custom Lock image.
I tried nandroid restore, 2 images, but both also failed to restore / bootup.
I tried re-installing ROM and it was successful but during reboot, it will still get stock on the boot image.
Last step.
I used ODIN to restore the stock ROM and ODIN was able to install and reset. And my phone rebooted but still got stock on the Samsung Logo with CUstom Lock Screen.
What else can I do to fix this?
Thank you.
Boot into recovery and do a factory reset. I assume you now have 3e stock recovery because of ODIN. This might or might not help. If you have any questions about recovery, please use the search function for information. If for some reason you still have a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM), try re-flashing an AT&T ROM and Kernel again. Everything you try is at your own risk. Good luck.

I had tried to restore/flash from recovery before ODIN and it all Failed.
Anyway, the last step ODIN restore and it was still stock at the Samsung Logo with Lock image.
I left the phone to charge the whole night and this morning when I turned it on, it was able to start properly with ODIN stock ROM.
I tried to go to recovery, and can only be done manually, and it was not the TWRP recovery but the stock one, with very small characters.
I tried to install Mint Jell2.1 right away but just reboots.
I realized that I might need to root it again and downloaded the Tool and re-loki'ed/rooted and installed TWRP.
Now, I am able to install Mint Jelly 2.1 and restoring all my apps.
I appreciate the comment.
Thank you.

Yeah, every single time I ODIN back to stock, I get stuck at the splash screen also. And rebooting to 3E (factory) recovery and "restore factory defaults" works great.

I am running out of options. I thought I am already out of this stuck on Samsung Logo with Custom Lock icon.
I had ODIN to stock I337UCUAMDL and reset, Ran Loki patch / installed TWRP, intermittently it will get stuck.
I flashed Shoshock 1.9, was able to reboot and setup basic settings.
I manually reboot to check if it was able to fix the problem, but no.
I am stuck again and don't know what is the next step for trouble shooting it.
any advise will be appreciated.
Thank you.
I got stuck to 1st boot image of Samsung with Lock Custom Icon.
I did format data/factory reset/clear cache/dalvik.. all of the wipe ootions.
I flashed a new ROM, successful, rebooted pass the logo and booted fine. I did not change any settings yet and I rebooted to check if it will get stuck again and sure after reboot, it got stuck again on the 1st image that shows up : Samsung Logo with the Lock Custom Icon.

Galaxy S4 freezes when turning on?

I just rooted my Galaxy S4 (model SGH-I337 AT&T) (I have not installed any ROMS either) and I went to back it up once more in recovery mode but when it went to reboot, it froze. It booted up normally but then froze when the AT&T logo is spinning. I can take the battery out and turn it on but the same thing happens. When I go to recovery mode to reboot, same thing happens. I have wiped cache partition and rebooted, same thing. I have restored my 2 backups, one failed and the other the same thing happens, I have rebooted to bootloader but that brings me to a screen saying downloading... with a android guy then the only way to get out of that is taking the battery out. I have tried wiping data/factory reset but it fails while restoring data. Nothing is working! Please help. I am very knew to rooting by the way. I have Clockworkmod recovery too by the way if that matters. Thanks in advance.
I am going out on a limb here, did you do a factory reset within the recovery? If not, try that. should boot just fine, IF, you said, you have not flashed any custom roms yet.
Good luck.
If that does not work, please search ODIN, because I am afraid that is the next step.
Thank you.

Thanks for replying. Yes I did a factory reset in Clockworkmod recovery many times. Froze in the same spot. Then I saw a Youtube video on how to use ODIN and it worked perfectly. ODIN said "pass" but when it rebooted, same problem! Then I wasnt able to enter recovery mode, it just froze. Now I am able to enter stock recovery but still nothing is working. Should I try ODIN again? I am almost positive I used the right firmware too. my options in recovery are Reboot system, apply update from ADB, external storage,or cache, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition. thanks again for the help
now that you have flashed back to stock with odin, wipe data and reboot.

[Q] My AT&T GS4 won't boot into recovery but will boot normally.

So I recently installed cynaogenmod 10.2 and now my phone won't boot into recovery. I was going to install gapps because I forgot to when I installed the rom. I do the correct sequence of buttons and then it shows recovery booting but then it vibrates and boots normally. I have no idea what's going on so any help would be appreciated.
Edit: Now it looks like it won't boot at all. I think I'll just let it sit for a bit.
Edit: Can I please have some help? I tried flashing a stock Odin firmware and now my phone won't boot past the AT&T logo.
Since using Odin, have you booted into stock recovery and done a factory and cache wipe?

+1. Factory reset will usually get you past a boot loop

Yeah I did that thanks, I hadn't thought that there was a "stock" recovery to do that with. I did it and now it works fine. I was still wondering why my phone wouldn't allow me to boot into recovery when I had 4.3 installed.

Unable to boot into recovery (lollipop i9505)

I have TWRP installed and I booted into recovery, backed up my rom and everything was fine. A few minutes later I tried booting into TWRP again but it only rebooted the phone. It shows booting recovery above the Samsung logo then reboots the phone. I used apps like quick boot but yet still reboots the phone
Have you tried turning it off and then booting into recovery with the key combo?

Yup, reboots back
Try reflashing recovery. Or flash a different version.

Did you root it at first ? If not do so ,i also had that issue and was solved by rooting, normally root is not required for Flashing TWRP but still...
The same problem... I think the rom issue
Flash the latest stock ROM and try to enter recovery.

Unlocked Bootloader, installed TWRP, unable to boot except to recovery

I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP all went well, however upon rebooting I was back in recovery not the ROM, no big deal. I wiped data and installed a custom ROM, again all went well, however upon reboot back in recovery. Tried shutdown and restart, same thing. Tried a different ROM, same thing, starting to get worried now, as I do not seem to be able to boot except for into recovery, which I obviously do not want.
Last ditch:
Power, off, <volume> and Power -> start Same bootloader unlocked screen, then ... recovery.
Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
ERIC

I did the same thing you did, and got stuck where you were. I believe what I had to do was wipe every partition under Advanced Wipe, then copy the ROM over, and then install the ROM.

Wich commands did You use to flash twrp?
Maybe did you flashed it in boot partition and not in recovery partition
Thanks, Trying again this and only this works seems to work.
Last ditch:
Power, off, <volume> and Power -> start Same bootloader unlocked screen, then ... Android
Anything else as in simply turning it on results in recovery. Thus it appears that the Android is correct, it seems to be that the default boot option is set to twrp and not the Android however. Selecting Power, off, <volume> and Power ->Recovery Mode goes to TWRP.
I formated, System, Data, Cache and reinstalled without any change to the way it boots.
I also tried RR 5.8.3, AOKP and both with the same result.
I flashed using fastboot recovery twrp-3.1.0-0-n3-potter.img

Did you flashed the opt out dm verity? Read the guide carefully.

maybr u have erased ur rom, flash stock rom
Maybe u have wiped ur stock os. go n flash stock rom n then try again
Got it working.
Restored stock and then re-fashed TWRP, since had the issue (i have 2 phones, on one the second time I flashed TRWP, but the other went fine). Repeated again on the second phone now all is well.
Thanks,
ERIC

Thanks
