hey, i just bought my lg g6 yesterday (fully updated it) and when i started playing games i did notice so lag low fps at some points in hearthstone and minecraft was around 25 fps (don't know if that's ok or not..) so i went to benchmark my phone on atutu (background apps all closed) and my score was 100000 on the 3d which is the no where near what it should be for my phone, i did a factory reset turned on forced gpu rendering and got just over 110000 which is still much lower than it's supposed to be, is my phone defective or is it a software issue. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Drop down 1 xanax and relax enjoy supersmooth G6 Nothing softwer issue only benchmark wanking issue. Get a girlfriend or boyfriend -
May be something wrong with your phone. An average Antutu score for G6 is around 130-140.000 so having only around 100.000 is a lot lower than expected.
Did you benchmark when the phone was cold or did you bench immediately after playing a game, while the phone was still warm? What was your highest score?

While benches don't really show exact performance they can and do show if your phone is running as expected or if there's something wrong with it.

Have you tried hard resetting the phone? I mean a proper "hold power button + volume down hard" reset?
mines the same, around 100-110k similar results with game saver off and on. But I'm not bothered, as long as it gives me the great battery life like it is so far. I don't mind if its cpus are spun up a bit slower than the competition.
Could it be that DS model "only" gets 100k? I see 2 of you here with DS and 100k score. I got EU H870 and get, and always got, 140k which is on par with Pixel XL with same SoC.
can you guys share a screen shot with sub scores?
My sub scores are:
3D: 40185
UX: 36039
CPU: 24312
RAM: 6211
Total: 106747
So where are we lagging, which department?
edit: all apparently, 40k difference is a big difference, I'm sure this translates to real life performance difference aka the mild lag in games the OP was talking about.
i saw a screen shot where for people getting 140+k-155k its
3D: 60k
UX: 50k
CPU: 30K
Ram: 11k
How can there such a difference with the supposedly same parts...unless they aren't?

Got a H870DS here, great score but severe lag all the time, gaming, web, general app switching. It's ****.
Had multiple factory resets as well.

Check that theres no background apps running that can cause lag (like facebook app), try clearing system cache and restarting your phone, see if it helps.
Since you got good score i doubt it's phones hardware at fault here. Pretty sure you got apps in the background causing that lag.
Also, why do you have wi-fi and mobile data on at the same time? Isn't that unnecessary?

Why would you not have both on at the same time? Android prioritizes wifi over mobile. For those with a limited data plan it is helpful for the phone to switch over automatically to wifi when you are in range of a saved wifi signal.

I know but it also turns off mobile when connected to wifi, to save battery, and his isn't turned off, it's both turned on.
You gotta turn that setting on first (it isn't by default) which he probably didn't do so he has wifi and mobile working at the same time which can be a pretty significant battery drain.

Forgive the naive question but which setting is this? "Switch to Mobile Data" under wifi? even with data switched off my status bar still looks like both are working.

Yeah, that's the setting. Hmm... Weird. 4G icon for me dissapears if i'm connected to wifi. Probably a network provider thing then.

Ya I tried all that many times, I even get lag after a factory reset before installing anything
And yeah my data icon stays on even on wifi, no idea why, settings seem correct too.

LAG, way too laggy (even with airview, air gesture, multi view, s-voice all off)
No FM radio
Poor Data - seems a lot worse then S3
Thermostat un reliable reading thus point less
TouchWiz - just seems not quite finished
Touch screen sometime does not react.
headphone sound very poor and volume does not go all that high
Thinking of going for HTC One instead.

Might want to try updating firmware or getting a replacement.
Smooth as butter here and seeing speeds up to 24Mbps (3G).
Everyone knew they weren't getting FM radio from the start but you can just stream this off the net.

Data always sucks on Android until you do some build.prop magic and get the speeds up to normal. Used to get 25mbps max before and after doing some tweaking I'm now almost constantly getting ~90mbps. Compared to my friend's S4 on the same exact 4G network, my speeds were almost double to what he was getting. My phone also switched to 4G in places where his phone stayed on 3G.
The same thing happened on the Nexus 4.
I'd also consider installing faux123's kernel before returning your phone, and applying some tweaks. Intellidemand + fiops + undervolt + Intelli-Plug (instead of MPDecision), takes care of most of the lag. :good: The HTC One definitely delivers a better experience out of the box, but I'd wait to see what google has in store first, as there's no phone faster than the Nexus 4 running a linaro 4.9 compiled rom. Also I doubt you'll have a better listening-experience on the One, as both have the same exact audio codec.
It's good enough for the head of Android at Google. I guess he has lower standards than folks on XDA. Or maybe he just doesn't know how to use it.
Q: Is it a problem for Google that Samsung is so dominant, and makes almost all the money on the platform?
A: I realize this gets played up in the press a lot. Samsung is a great partner to work with. We work with them on pretty much almost all our important products. Here’s my Samsung Galaxy S4. Maybe you've got a defective unit or a much heavy apps (like anti-virus) running in the background because mine doesn't do that. The only time I noticed lag was when I returned from a heavy app (like NFS Most Wanted) to the homescreen, but the first update I received fixed that.

Attached my build.prop below. I think the speed improvements largely depend on the carrier, but do try it. Just copy the build.prop to /system/ and change the permission to rw-r--r--(chmod 644). Reboot.

So after having a Nexus 6 and rather liking the perceived security benefits of Encryption and seeing how it all but killed the useability of the device I wanted to know what the impact is of Encryption on the S6.
Now as we know Google backed down from requiring encryption on Lollipop devices. However, with my limited findings Samsung didn't have a thing to worry about.
I ran AndroBench 2 runs back to back on a clean boot with no background applications. I am posting up the fastest of each round. (The two runs were back and forth but within 3mb of each other or so)
Stock S6 64GB - 38GB free currently. The process took about 20 minutes on a full charge.

Not bad at all! Looks like I will turn this on when I get mine... I will run the same tests. I ordered the 128GB and I am no expert but don't expect it to be much different than your scores. Am I reading some of that wrong... looks like some of the tests improved?

Yeah I did a bunch more tests and all of them varied slightly, some faster some slower but not by much. Between them all I'd say the results equal out before and after.

I couldnt disagree more. The lag was more related to android 5.0 vs 5.1. 5.1 with encryption vs de-encryption has no noticeable difference (and I think most people agree with me). You might see different numbers in synthetic benchmarks but real world=no difference.
The Browser speed has seemed to have halved once it was encrypted.
That seems like a BIG HIT, and a deterrent to most users.
The other applications seem to have slight delays too, but I think the Browser speed is probably the most important factor right there. I mean, it is used the most often.
I'm not sure why Google backed down from their decision, I commend Apple's stance.
Perhaps Google saw the delays and didn't want to demonstrate lag or something?
not bad !:fingers-crossed:
Nexus 6 is a disaster.

I got the best longevity yesterday after encrypting it since I have had the phone. Now if you are doing a ton of RW with big files or a lot of little ones it could have an impact, but for the normal Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram it worked out perfectly.
I can honestly say there is no discernible impact to battery life.
I have to encrypt my phone for work and the htc one m8 would take a huge hit however the sgs6 so far has been great and no hick ups like i used to get with the m8.

Out of curiosity.. Those that encrypt notice a major decrease in download speeds for 4G LTE and wifi? Also, after encrypting does your wifi hotspot for tethering still work?
So just to clarify this "encryption" your talking about is the Settings > Security > Encrypt Device? And that makes things run FASTER?

There is no reason things are running faster when encrypted. What people are stating here just means that there is no performance decrease after encryption. The slightly faster results might just be random. Some parts are faster some parts are slower. But in general it seems the speed seems to be nearly equal encrypted or not.

The Exynos is ARMv8 & should have the feature set for hardware accelerated encryption (ex. AES) unlike v7 CPUs. You can keep it active without a major hit to I/O performance, so you won't have the same experience as the Nexus 6. One thing that may be of interest is whether encryption affects battery because most users probably don't need encryption...

Hi there,
I own a Samsung Galaxy S6 32GB and had to turn on the device encryption due to security policies of the company I work for to get access to my MS Exchange mails.
After turning on the encryption I had the feeling that the battery life got worse.
To prove if this is right or wrong I started the decryption yestrerday. Now it is almost 24h ago and the decryption still is running.
I am not sure if the device is really still decrypting or if the device is having problems.
Has anyone experience how long the decryption takes to finish? I would like to restart the device but I do not want to lose any data...
Can anyone help?
Greetings,
Jan

Of its been decrypting for 24 hours is stuck and you have to reset it. This will make you factories reset, so you will lose your data.

I had a similar problem where my device was not getting to decryption, but getting stuck on the initial "Decrypting" screen.
I solved it by changing my screen lock method to password (i was using fingerprint) and then running the decryption option. This made the difference and the device decrypted on my next attempt.

Anyone notices decreased performance when using the broser?
so this my fifth day with s7 edge and I just realised that I may have got a defective one (u guys shall confirm this ) so I noticed when I play high graphic games like dead trigger 2 and need for Speed no limits I noticed that they run very smooth for like 2 mins until the device gets warmer then they start to lag like hell should I return it and get another 1?
I have 2 explaining videos but I can't post them
I'm thinking this is normal with a glass phone. It blocks the heat inside the phone and processor starts to throttle down to reduce the heat.
Can you check the temperature of the phone when this happens??
My tmo gs7 Snapdragon, gets hot while browsing the web and using the camera. I bought an infarared laser temperature gun to check the heat and its between 33-42°C depending on what im running. Idle temperature is fine tho 26-29C.
Gsam shows my battery temp is on par with the temp gun too

Doesn't sound good, no problem here at nfs most wanted, xcom, impulse or ff9, it just gets slightly warm after some time and I haven't noticed any drop in performance.
Have you checked if there maybe is some app hogging the performance in the background? Another possibility, maybe a bad update? I'm currently still on PB4, as of now still not rooted as well and just some bloat disabled through app manager. Game launcher active, but not the tools.

The s7 has a vapor chamber for cooling purpose and for me and many others (mostly exynos variant though) it's working pretty well. At heavy games this device is much cooler for me than my old s3 (at it's time) or g3 are.

No i have never updated it, and no iam sure that there's no app runing in background cos basically the last test i did was immediately after rebooting so there weren't any opened apps, does the bloat u disabled can really solve the problem? or it just improves performance? i highly believe it's tempreture related issue cos when i close the game for like 2 mins and open it again the game runs good for a short time then lag and so on

Apps can subscribe them self to startup, so that doesn't have to mean that much (e. g. like Facebook does that hoggs performance and battery, but not that bad as you describe it though). I haven't disabled much, wanted to say, that I even just used the build in tool and nothing external, which let's you disable more stuff.
But now as I think about it, I believe there was a thread about lag already...
Still, sounds like there is something not working probably, on which version are you on?

MMB29k.G935FXXUIAPB6, can a factory reset solve the problem?
It should not heat up like that, my exynos only get warm when in VR and that's not even at half the degrees my old s6 had..there is no games that can slow down the GPU as of today I most sertantly can say..I think your problem is elsewhere.
game dungeonhunter 5 so cool when play game. But chrome web some time is so hot, some time cool. I think maybe chrome quest cpu process (by JS of some website) to much make devices so hot. But game is ok no hot.
If it's hot enough that you can't hold the phone then I don't believe it's normal. I've played FF9 for periods of at least 20-30 minutes and it doesn't even feel warm.
Sorry raptor2000, but you have a defective unit. I played asphalt 8 for 2 hours (exynos 8890) and it was super smooth and the device become just slightly warm. For comparison with my note 4, I could not play for more than 15min(but it is known that note 4 snapdragon has this issue). Exchange asap if you can. The most graphic intensive thing for s7 suppose to be gear vr. You should not have any issues with any game.

Hi to every lucky body that get android 7 final.i made this topic to share your results in android 7 and compare with yours in android 6..like camera..battery..speed..tanx and hope to be usefull and active topic??????

Well, it's a tiny bit snappier, and a tiny bit faster overall.
The battery is better; I get 3:45 to 4 hours SOT in auto brightness, full location services with wireless scanning, google now on, google cards on, hot word on from any screen... the full google experience, for short.
It's better than I had with a variety of mods and ROMs on Marshmallow.
I especially enjoy the new notification center. I can read numerous full messages and emails right from the notification slide. Quite awesome.
And I thank the gods of Google for removing the stupid enlarged tiles for Wireless and Bluetooth, the most annoying feature ever.
Battery is not bad for stock but I get the feeling with all mods and tweaks and kernels and such android M was a bit better...
But it would be unfair to compare those two as M has been worked on for a year now... N is fresh out of the box so let's wait and see how much battery can be improved.
Other than that N is very fluent and fast. Up to now also very stable and offers some important options that used to be mods some years ago.
Camera... And such... Did not really compare but would expect them to be similar...

I haven't tried N yet, but I was reading a comment on Slashdot that led me to believe, that it included something similar to CM13 privacy manager ? Is this true? Do you now get to choose what apps get access to? Can you block them from wireless, cellular data?
^ This feature alone made me upgrade the wife's and kids tablets from Nexus 7s to Nexus 7 (2013)s so I could put them on CM13.

No, but you can do that from Data Usage in Settings, in M as well.
I've been using it for 2 days now. The doze feature is way better than that of M. I've noticed certain performance boost in games like asphalt 8 as the game used to lag after thermal throttling was active in M.
The usage is very very smooth, feels very light. I mostly love the quick settings panel as because it looks and is well organised than the previous version. It's just an initial build and its quite stable. I would say I am impressed and good to go with 7.0.
Well this was my perspective.
I think charging while screen is on is improved. Can someone confirm?

Not entirely sure... NExus 5x has quite some struggle with charging when screen on.
Under M there was almost no charging when screen was on and you did some browsing...
Might be slightly better under N... though I havent tested it long enough to confirm... Charging basically stopped when you used your phone constantly and not just for writing a text under M...
Nope, seems same like before.

Edit: it actually seems better, I'm using my phone on charger for about 10mins, and ampere measures around 1100mAh.
On MM it wouldn't go to more than 300mAh while screen on.

I tested it while playing a game (8 ball pool, not a resource intensive app) and the percentage went up atleast 2 to 3 % in roughly 5-10 minutes. It seems that it is improved. But we still need someone to look through the kernel's code or run a reliable test!
I have it on my 5x since it dropped was on dp5 before that. Official seems smoother don't really use the 5x since I got the s7.
I'm actually seeing what seems to be worse battery performance. I've eliminated a few apps that were troublesome, but it looks like the battery is draining faster than on "M". I'm hoping that it's simply a problem with the crappy cell signal in my office - my connection bounces between 27 different towers and it's still crappy at best.
Atleast for me, I can confirm that charging while screen on is finally fixed. Hail hydra!
As previously stated, it feels a lot snappier and lighter being on Nougat as opposed to Marshmallow. Quick Settings are better overall, especially when you're able to add custom quick tiles via apps in the Play Store. Only complaint about the Quick Settings is that the Wifi and Bluetooth used to toggle on press, then open mini settings when you clicked the text. Now it just opens mini settings. I can get used to that, though.
Oh, and I still hate the white background in the settings app. Haven't found any Layers themes that work well yet. If anybody else finds one, let me know.

Important, there are sorta probs about Substratum and Android N, such as make sure you wont apply it to Chrome and Documents for example. You'd get instant force close. And if there's any other app like that, you need to make sure it is off the list to get themed.

Description:
This thread is made to get you some extra juice, based on my own experience and testing.
You will find tips here for rooted and unrooted users. If you know more things to save some battery, be sure to post it here!
Bugs & Features:
You will gain a better battery life
Bugs could be possible no background sync of apps you are hibernating for example.
Maybe more, depends on which tools you are activating.
Optimizations in Oxygen OS
Let's start with some basics:
1. Use the dark Theme! OnePlus made a great thing with implementing a dark theme, as we have a super amoled display, this means when the color black (no dark grey or blue, it has to be BLACK) the pixels will consume nearly 0% battery even when the screen is on.
The Theme is system wide, even some stock apps like dialer, contacts and the status bar will turn black.
2. Use a black wallpaper (the more black the more battery you will safe, just Google for some nice walls) [Wallpaper Changer is a nice app if you like some variety.]
3. Disable all Gestures (except Pocket Mode). I haven’t tested how much this can safe, maybe it is only a little bit.
4. Disable Location & Sync services if you never need them. You can also disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as much as you can to extend you battery ("Tasker" is a great option for doing this automatically!)
5. Disable/Uninstall as many apps as you can (f.e. Chrome if you use the Snapdragon Browser written some lines later, the Google app a known battery drainer), use the stock apps over self-downloaded apps (f.e. Calc, Clock, Dialer,…, as these have a dark mode)
6. You can find some more settings on this post
No Root Apps
1. “Pixel Filter” – Set it to 50%, it will look the best. Pixel Filter is useful for Amoled display, as it will turn XX% of your screen pixel off. The screen quality will look worse but for me most of the time 50% is still okay and you can turn it off at any time
2. “Hibernation Manager” – Turn on as many options as you can and want
3. “Snapdragon Browser” based on Chromium by @arter97 – A browser optimized for the new Snapdragon Devices. It has a battery safer option, a dark mode and has a adblock option. Turn on both to safe more battery, especially if you are browsing much.
4. If you are using google maps much, be sure to download the regions you are living offline!
Root Apps
1. "Greenify" – Take a look at both Greenify & Hibernation Manager and choose one of them!
2. "Amplify" – Take a look here for the best settings
3. Take a look at Advanced Kernel Tweaks. I've tested it on my OnePlus 3T and its making its wonder. I really recommend giving it a try.
4. Download Monochrome and let it do its work at 15% battery
Please give a "thanks" to me if you like my post by pressing the following button.
Do you have a before and after screenshot?
Pretty much don't have a smart phone with these options on
Thanks

I've been trying to figure out how to turn off sync in the background have you do that for apps?
This is BS.
The guide for best battery life on the 3T should include 1 rule only:
1. Don't do anything and you will have 6-8h SOT guaranteed

Yep....I'm doing zero of these things...But I did grab the pixel screen for emergency...like if I don't have my battery charger...I'm in Chicago all day.....8pm rolls around and I know I won't get to a charger Tull like 4am....I might use that instead of battery saver mode. I grabbed the snapdragon chrome also.
I also have a custom kernel but not to down clock....to customize the governor and I/O controller. And eventually maybe f2fs, but I'm waiting for more roms to come out. Like freedom os after Android N is released.
I would also give the advice to use custom Governor scripts. I am using X.a.n.a battery from op3 and it works fine.
Using stock kernel I get 15-16% usage per our when screen on with stock settings, with xana I get 10-11 %

I mean, of course you will get better SOT. You are limiting the CPU!!!
But it WILL LAG If you demand more performance...
That's not the way a phone should work and even more a phone like ours, your are losing tons of performance by doing that.
Stay calms on low usage but be able to deliver full performance on load

For low~mid usage it will perform okay, but demand it a high load and then tell me how it goes
And why would you buy a device such as OP3 If you are going to keep it running on 1401Mhz... That's little bit than half of the full performance
I mean, wouldn't be smarter to buy a device that caps at 1401MHz since you ""don't need"" more

Exactly. I mean I pretty much leave everything on except BT because I don't use it that much. I can still get 5-6 hours SOT or more if I'm on wifi all day. That's with the light theme and everything. But hey, some people want to squeeze out as much as they can..

No idea why so many people think its so important to turn it off.

Uninstall ES File explorer (if you have it installed)
So I have my 3T for 2 days now, and the battery life was quite decent I thought. It was until today that I say ES file explorer at the very top of most used battery with a whopping 42% battery use of which 80+% in the background.
Then today when I used greenify to force hibernate it, I noticed my phone not being as warm anymore, I thought it was normal.
Great thread btw.
