If you have an international Exynos S8+, you can root with PC. If you have a US Snapdragon S8+ (like me), you will have to wait until a root method is published; however, the method about to be published also requires a PC.

There is now a working workaround for 80% battery. Go into the root method thread and search for it.

Good luck with. It'll never happen you'd need a one click root app like king root to be able to root without a pc and a whole series of timid steps

I'm rooted with the tmo version but I'll try this one too. I have a bad stutter constantly and wonder if that has anything to do with it
So has anyone try rooting using this method?

Anyone else notice tremendous lag after rooting this phone?
Mine has significantly slowed down and lags constantly where as before it was lightning quick. Any fixes for this?

How do I revert/unroot to stock so I can then root via the Sprint version?

Look in the "Note 4 is rooted" thread or almost every other thread that mentions lagging while rooted -- it's been clearly defined as being Xposed causing it at the moment. Root on it's OWN should never cause any lagging issues like that.

Yes, everyone needs to quit asking that. And no there will most likely never be a way to root without tripping it, so just root.

KINGO temp root

so for those who don't want to use the current risky method of root there is this app that allows temp root.if properly used you can temp root your moto x running 4.4.4 its root via app as you can see exposed works just fine so does titanium back up and other non kernel related root apps
my bootloader is locked and I'm on 4.4.4 I'm not comfortable bricking my phone using risky methods and until full root or bootloader unlock is achieved this will be my goto I hope this will help some of you get a small fix of root
it takes some getting used to but temp root even allows gravity box and even x teather

sadly no that was my main goal I've been seeing if I can do other things to trick my system into making the apps work together but I'm no root master
I don't know why more people aren't talking about this and working on it. The brick your device and flash rooted version isn't appealing to me at this point. I updated my device to 4.4.4 like 2 days before they announced that Jcase had found an exploit. This method makes me a little nervous because not many people are talking about it. I just want to be able to tether my phone on Verizon with my unlimited data. I am worried about if they install something and steal your data from your phone.

I did this when I first got the Snapdragon S7 Edge and it worked but bugs, and plus, if I can't use Samsung Pay and Samsung Health, then this is pointless to root. I reflashed to default firmware, and then I used T-mobile Unlock app and unlocked sim on phone, then I flashed the Unlocked firmware from Sammobile (TMK) onto the phone. Now I do not have T-mobile bloat and boot. I also get OTA updates 2 weeks ahead of normal T-mobile updates. So this root is not good to me. Plus, Oreo is just any day now with OTA, and I am willing to be a little more patient.

Whats the best root method?

I am curious which one I should do, I really would like to root it. I have the xt1625 without amazon adds
KingoRoot.
Be careful, there's a guide in the proper section (https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4/how-to/how-to-root-g4-fix-bootable-attempted-t3417592) that explain how to do it properly. KingoRoot apparently brick the phone :s

If I can tag along with this post... What is the best root method for the Amazon variant XT1625? According to Moto's website, this one (refurbished phone) apparently has an unlockable bootloader. It is running build number MPJ24.139-64.

Anyone that uses King root is an idiot in my opinion, which I'm sure you don't care about that. What I do know early on was that there was some danger of your data going to of all places, China. Plus I don't like some of the exploits it uses to gain root. If you're happy with it though, go for it.
Isn't SuperSU now owned/maintained at least partially by a Chinese company?

Yes, It is owned by a Chinese company, I read that too and I don't trust them either but almost every hardware that is in front of me right now is manufactured in China. I avoid Chinese apps and will block/firewall SuperSu/KingoSu if someone can explain to me how to do that.
Once u install a custom recovery all ROMs are prerooted why would anyone stay stock any why would anyone use kingroot
You don't need Kingroot. A you need to do is unlock the bootloader, install twrp and flash super su.

I found one with all workarounds for the problems with rooting this phone. Fixes for data cell service, and you can google wifi fix to save your wifi information after reboot. Involves build.prop editor.
@Nickvanexel Normally when folks boast about something important on a popular device, they back it up with either a how-to or links that point them in the right direction.
