There's no such named the best ROM. Every ROMs have their own advantages/disadvantages. If you want stock camera, go with TouchWiz ROMs.

Then go with any TouchWiz ROMs you like. Heating on S4 i9500 is pretty normal on most of ROMs.

suggest a few roms pls!, with link

For S4 to not get hot, I have tried many different roms and options. The ones that did it for me were to use Kernel Adiutor and underclock from 1890 to 1458 or 1242 if I don`t game that much. And regarding battery, if you want to last while not doing stuff with it, go with Row, in combination with any other Governor. If you want performance go with Interactive/ Ondemand and Cfq. But there is no need to leave the phone clocked to 1890 like default cuz it will get hot, especially when you are going to use it with the charger plugged in.

I run stock rooted with the next kernel to overclock it and apex launcher. Then I can use the peel remote app.

I'd have to go with SlimBean. Good support, weekly builds, quick, and pretty bloat free.
Stock rom with Blackhawk rom by @ketut.kumajaya
custom rom mokee opensource by @daavvis worth to try
make it dual booted
Slimbean with Next Kernel .
fast,light,stablee
I'm currently using Aospa 3.x, but the battery duration is horrible, how is this compared to slimbean? im not too much into hard gaming (i use my tab for reading, casual games, email, etc..), so what do you guys recommend to me? stock+somekernel? or slimbean?, can i have tablet mode on slimbean 7? thanks in advance
Best Regards

Slimbean official build 7 has really good battery life, the best of any rom i have tried. And there is a tablet mode mod you can flash for slimbean. It is on the slimbean thread somewhere, i will try to find it and post it here. Hope this helps

Edit: this is the correct thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2154075 works in latest version just download and flash the build 7 version, be sure to also download the build 7 restore file just in case something goes wrong

I've tried CM, AOSPA, PAC and finally SlimBean and combined with TabletUI, Xposed framework and Holo launcher the latter one is what I like most!
Eeehhhh. I use PAC-Man. It's not the most stable thing in the world, with it's occasional fast rebooting. But, I have never seen a ROM with as many customization options as this. Throw your favorite CM theme, and your favorite icon pack for Apex or Nova launcher, maybe play around with the transparency levels and colors on your Navbar and status bar, and then... Then you have a thing of beauty right there. I like it, even though it has it's quirks.

Stock CM runs like a train here. Default Android was sluggy and laggish but everything is now super fast. Never had a problem.

The one found at http://download.cyanogenmod.org/
I am using the 10.1.0 RC5. I think it's the overhead of all Samsung crap that can be found on the device that makes it move like a slug. (Alas, for me the speed was barely acceptable)

If you're using Adam Kernel, your tweaking options are very limited by design (Both WannamLite/Adam are supposed to be close to stock). None of the tuneables available in STweaks are going to make any great difference to battery life or performance. If you want more tweakability, use another kernel.

So read/ask in the thread specific to the kernel; each kernel will have different variables that are tuneable.

Is it worth flashing a new kernel?

Hi guys, I've recently rooted my i9505, and after trying a few ROMs I've settled on BlackBox. I've never flashed a new kernel before, just stayed with whatever came with the rom, so would it make much difference if I did, and if so, what would people recommend and why?
Thanks in advance.

No probably it won't matter much. Sure there can be a minor difference in your situation, but there is no better kernel.
Some kernels are better optimized than the Samsung stock kernel, but between custom kernels there is not much difference. If you don't understand what the difference is between each kernel, just stay with the one that comes with your rom.
Sound advice, thanks.

no mean to offense anyone...
it is like buying something new to replace a good that you have already (and it is working).
you will have to go and check what custom kernels can give you, to see if it raises an eyebrow. from my experience, each kernel has its ups and downs (I did not find a perfect one). you have to try yourself. a kernel that was best for me might be bad for you, depending on what you expect and want.
there are LOTS of benefits a customer kernel can bring!

Hi mate !
The kernel for instance can offer much customization if you're already rooted and on a custom rom, you can change the amplification of the headphone and the speaker of your device, you can overclock / undervolt your device, you can change screen display settings, you can change the i/o scheduler to your personal liking ...etc and much more !
That's why users recommend it, because it can offer what stock kernel can't and won't offer you .
Nhariamine
Just in case anyone's interested, I flashed Adam kernel the other day and it didn't really work out. The phone became very juttery and laggy, and I the end I had to restore a nandroid. Glad I gave it a go though.

Hi, can't give you specific rom. Right now I am using the rom and kernel combo you said, so far so good with performance antutu 37900+.
What I can tell you is that, you can play around because you can always go back to stock unrooted. Just read properly and follow instructions.

Can't remember on top of my head which ROM was but I got 15+ hrs screen time, no FC whatsoever even though I got it from Apple Appstore. Also I can run any Windows executable file on it. It's superior!
That's the most stable ROM I got.
Again, it is based on my experiences

How the hell is someone running flat stock scoring 6000 more than me with custom rom and kernel? There is no way stock is faster than this xnote. This is way quicker. Stock lags like hell.

Well, im not bashing anyones work but when i flashed ported Echoe i was running at about 43000. Maybe because the codes are meant for another phone it could affect the performance.

Well benchmarks are funny things. A higher benchmark doesn't always mean better real world performance. It could be that customizations in a rom lower your benchmark score but not your performance. NK2 stock is pretty sluggish compared to this xnote rom.

Haha! Don't make me break out the mad tweaks and make this thing bellow smoke from the top of the phone! Real world performance is what matters. I don't so much read into the benchmark tests because I've seen phones with lower scores perform outstanding against a device with a much higher benchmark score. It all depends on how the device uses it's resources and how well the os is optimized. The kernel plays a big part also. The scores tend to fluctuate and the differences you see in the app benchmark tests don't always translate into real world performance differences. Most of these variances you will never notice. With this said, this phone is awesome... right out of the box!
