Hi, i've bought an Axon 7 in October 2016. Two months ago i notice a lower/distorted audio (not every time) when i do some voice registration on whatsapp or a distorted audio when i put a story on instagram (always). The strange things is that when i call or when i record a video the audio is normal, so i don't think it's a hardware problem. Instead i noticed a flickering in display when brightness is low and i tape a messagge, at every tap the display flickers.
What should i do??? A downgrade could help me? Or is a problem with those app and API?
The strangest thing is that even the new Axon that i take from amazon has the same problems! The older phone is on nougat b04, the newer on b05.
I can't help you with the mic problem you have but the screen flashing at low brightness is caused by the "Assertive display" feature.
Go to Settings -> Display -> disable "Assertive display"

No one can help me? Low volume on my WhatsApp's voice file is frustrating
Hi,
I noticed that sometimes when dolby is on, on games especially, audio is not good (blow effect ? not sure about the translation). So disabling it helps in some cases.

But my problem is present only when i record a video or a voice message and only in instagram and whatsapp. There aren't problems when i listen to something, so dolby isn't the reason.
So I have done the downgrade and microphone turns normal in Instagram's stories or WhatsApp's voice message. I speak about b10. But speaker has a low volume instead of b05 nougat! So if the first thing is resolve in MM, the volume is too low for me.
I don't know what they do with this upgrade, one thing is resolved and other is worse...I think it's a API problem, apps doesn't use them in a good way in nougat, for this device.

HI there guys.
Brand new to this forum.
I've searched for days and I'm unable to find a solution.
I'm experiencing a crackling or a distortion on phone calls at certain volumes. I noticed it with certain pitches in peoples voices it would cause a vibration in the ear speaker and some distortion in the sound. Kind of like the speaker is being over driven or has too much power going to it. It usually goes away if I turn the volume almost all the way down, but this is obviously not a practical option since I'm not always making phone calls in a dead silent room. The speaker phone works fine. This only happens when I'm using the earpiece. Is this normal? Is it related to the camera autofocus sensor rattle? Are the sound vibrations from a person's voice enough to set off the rattle? It's really annoying as I tend to make phone calls a lot and I don't like using speaker phone or a headset. Does anyone else have this problem?
From what I can tell, it happened and was normal in the S4. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280930).
Please help. Im deciding if i need to return it.

It's too bad that you didn't describe it in more detail.. i.e. give us steps to replicate it. A recording of the distortion would have been helpful too. I haven't noticed what you describe but it sounds like the gain or auto gain is too high and your earpiece speaker is being overdriven.
There is a gain setting in the service mode menu but first you need to distinguish an app issue or possibly damaged speaker before messing around in the hidden settings. See if you can find an audio app that will give you a wider adjustment range for your system volume and gain.,

Thank you for the reply.
If you go into the service menu, the go into the low frequency test. At 100hz and 200 hz there is a little bit of buzz in the headset reciever unless you really push it against your face (which i assume kind of tightens the spaces in the plastic and prevents whatever vibration in the speaker is occuring).
Hmm.. the vibration is akin to as if you were speaking into some cellophane wrap; like some film (maybe for waterproofing) is covering the speaker.
Oh. It's also worth noting that I cannot replicate the issue on Skype or Viber. Those sound crystal clear.
Bump. Anyone?
Hey guys,
Whenever I film a video, either on Motorola's Camera App or on Google's, the audio is REALLY LOUD and it won't cancel/filter any noise.
In other words, the audio in the video sucks.
Also, whenever I record my voice on whatsapp, the audio is REALLY L OUD and has a ton of noise.
Why is this?
I am rooted on MM using systemless root... does this have anything to do with it?
What can I do?
Please help me, this really sux balls! :/

I just started noticing this and its driving me nuts.
I just factory restored with factory image, since i was rooted and issue continues to happen.
Not sure what could be causing it.
I notice it on snapchat a lot more. Sounds like one of those old school movie reels spinning.
can really notice it on quit environment, gets on my nerves.

Is it like this on every device? I got my Pure two days ago, and the recording noise is really a dealbreaker for me. It's really loud on snapchat, which I use a lot. Should I ask for a replacement or just return it and buy a Nexus 6P?
Volume level of actual sound appears normal - that is, spoken voices, or other sounds.
So it appears somehow lots of white noise is getting amplified into the recording.
Hmm.. Appears to be a known issue - https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoX/comments/3ulqdt/noise_while_recording_video_2015_moto_x_pure/

Do you think it's a software or hardware issue? I'm considering returning my device, but it would be useless if it's a software issue. And if it is, maybe motorola are aware of it already?... I'm not really sure what to do lol, because I do love this phone.
Hard to say. Chances are it's possible to somehow disable the noise canceling in this phone. I don't record enough videos for it to matter. I suppose when there is actual sound, it will overcome the white noise anyway.
I have a slight background noise and all audio no matter what app I record through (camera, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook) is very low. I can't use speakerphone either because people on the other end can't hear me. Hopefully some sort of fix comes up. I feel it's more software than hardware. Never had the issue before marshmallow.
Try Open Camera, and then tap the Settings icon (upper right)
In Video settings, choose Audio source and pick 'Default audio source'.
See if that helps for videos. I don't use snapchat so I don't know how to fix that sorry.

I can't find it!! And did it solve the problem?
I recently started having issues with my new XT1575 where the audio would pop constantly in some apps and specifically when I placed the phone next to my ear during a call. Pulling it away from my face would make the gurggle disappear. After much poking and tinkering I found a way to fix it. There is a bug in the Audio Effects app that is causing the problem. Disabling the app fixed all of my popping, gurggling and crackling in audio.
To disable the app:
Go to settings -> apps -> (make sure "All apps" is selected) tap Audio Effects -> Disable
Just sharing in case this helps anyone else.

I think there is no need to disable it. Enter google play music settings-->equalizer and disable deep bass in the speakers. I think the deep bass preset by default is what causes the noises.
In my moto g 2015 i access equalizer through android settings, but in moto x I only found it via google play music.
I don't think it had anything to do with the bass levels. I only say that because proximity to my head seemed to cause the noises during phone calls. If i pulled the phone just 2 inches from my ear they stopped and voice was crystal clear again.
Hi all. Problem from this topic isn't so annoying for me. But from Marshmallow update I have an issue with audio files playing. I have my own sound for incoming calls (mp3 file) and for notifications (ogg file) and every few days my moto just stopping play any sounds. Incoming calls are quite (just vibration). When I try play any mp3 file with Play Music app it says me that there is problem with playing file. The only way to fix it for some short time is restart the phone.
I did twice wipe and after that was about 2-3 weeks OK. It's very annoying issue and I can't find any solution.
Can someone help me, please? Thank you all in advance.
Did you try different file formats?
No problems overe here.
But I only listen to 320kpbs MP3's or flac or wave.
Only good quality will come trough my speakers.
using good quality music will also help with that problem
Actually I tried different file format - mp3 and ogg files. It looks like phone has problem with playing any music files. I have all files on internal storage.
Corcerning quality I have also 320kbps mp3 files.
For me the main concern is not playing of audio files -- it's the phone audio during calls. The problem appears during calls when the backlight is off -- only if the phone is against my ear (proximity sensor turns off the backlight) or speakerphone on after backlight goes off. Pulling the phone an inch away from my ear (to turn on the backlight) fixes it, but that doesn't help because then I can't hear. Also, during speakerphone calls, turning on the backlight with the on/off switch solves the problem, but then it comes back as soon as the light goes off.
Disabling Audio Effects didn't do the trick. My phone, and my brother's identical phone, still have the annoying issue. I think I'll just return it while I am still allowed, and get something else (maybe an N6P).

320kbps...., "good sound" lolol
But seriously, it helps to avoid mega bass on the speakers, always good to turn that off
Here's a thread where seems to help to turn off the "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode". It's under "Cellular network settings". See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/audio-breaking-screen-goes-off-off-t3302643
Let us know if it works!
Hello guys, i'm facing a very annoying issue, since i updated zenfone 5 to lollipop, my microphone randomly and at most time, the microphone doesn't work, during a call the other side can't hear me, but if i put in speaker mode, the microphone works well, also in recorded videos or audio, there's no sound, curiously, if i speak near the upper mic hole, the other side can hear me with a low quality voice. In nexus 5 there's a similar problem, and if you change the "persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=" to true in build.prop the problem is solved, so I guess the issue is in microphone noise cancelling. I want to know if there's a way to solve this, where I can disable the noise cancelling, i searched in build.prop but i didn't find a option related to mic/noise canceling.
P.S. I already change the firmware from stock lollipop to shell rom 5.0 and did a full wipe and the problem persist.

HI,
maybe you fixed you problem yet (I'm sure you did after more than a year, but for other people having that problem).
Open claculator and type .12345+=
Go to BoardMic_Test
Make loud background noise for eg. from PC select one under youtube for phrase "industrial sounds 10 hrs"
Tap Start and talk to you phone.
Stop noise and listen results.
You may repeat procedure several times as results will satisfy you.
Try the same without noise, should be OK.
It works for me, no mic replacement, no software upgrade, no restarts, no restore factory defaults
Hello my friends!!
I actually found a way to fix front speaker distortion without root.
1) Disable Google's MusixFx App (com.android.musicfx)
2) Install an equalizer app (In my case i used Equalizer FX. Pro Free version)
3) Open the app (if you haven't disabled yet Google's MusicFx app, it will told you to do so)
4) Depending on how is affected your speaker because the bad mounting (Google's fault) you will have to play lowering the frequencies. In my case I only needed to lower 910Hz to -7db
5) No more distortion!!!....
The only down side it's that you will get a less louder speaker, but 100% enjoyable sound!
I had to return 4 devices until I decided to find a way to "fix it" without rooting... I think Google was already trying to fix it because MusicFX app was updated in latest February update. Let's see if they officially release a fix. I think I will ask for RMA again anyway...
I will try this! My RMA has the same distortion, especially during a video call. I was debating doing another RMA, but the screen seems good so I am not so pressed to do so. Thanks for the info!

Hello!!... It works... But sometimes the equalizer stops working and I have to uninstall and install again... Maybe someone could find a better Equalizer app.
I did also wrote Google about this... They told me to wait and to be patient ... Because they are working "day by day" to solve this issue... That I will receive a notification when the fix is ready... Let's see... If not I will have to do RMA again...

Keep me posted please! I'm in the same boat, I was debating contacting them, but now I won't as I know I'll get the same canned message. The USB C adapter quality sucks too, I use an AuX cable in my VW and man distortion, no sound, feedback at times unsure if you guys have any issues there too?

I have used the USB C adapter with headphones without problem (for now at least)...
If I receive any message from Google I'll update this post.
This doesn't fix the distortion for calls on speakerphone. Any idea how to achieve that without root?
The only thing I'm doing to keep the distortion at bay is by pushing the speaker grills slightly every now and then with my nails. That seems to be working. Nonetheless, these speaker combination is still better than bottom speakers. I'm enjoying way more content than I used to with my OnePlus 3T. Myy wife's OnePlus 5T speakers are louder, but still this one experiences better for me. I hope Google made them right !! But what can we do, they took a greedy mofo for CEO.

Thanks for the solution. It works for pixel 3 as well!
the best post I've seen, I had not noticed until I made the change although I notice it even if I disable the google one thanksss (You can also increase the volume from the same application and the result is maintained)
The difference in audio quality is really noticeable.. But doesn't seem to work on apps like youtube (Vanced)... Does this only work for dedicated music apps? Works flawlessly on Spotify but would love it to work at least for YouTube...

My sound quality dropped massively from one day to the next. Does anyone know if this has been an issue on the 3XL lately?
