Possible to set the V20 to G6 camera quality? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hi guys
I was comparing the v20 and G6 camera today at the LG store. I really like the more colorful G6 camera but others prefer the v20. Side by side I prefer the G6 but I would never give up my V20 for camera alone.
Are there any camera tips and tricks to get the v20 camera as close to the G6?? I suppose I would have to tweak manual settings.
Thanks in advance

Your questions is very, very vague. What is it about the G6 photos that you like over the V20?

When I compared them at the store the G6 seemed much more vibrant and colorful on AUTO mode that is.
I kinda prefer the G6 camera but thats the only thing

You can punch up colors and contrast in post processing.

rather not do that though..im not much of an editor

That's literally the best way to do that though. Otherwise you could end up in cartoon land like Samsung does with their auto. This phone really isn't meant for those who want the phone to do it all for them. This is for those who actually want to be part of the photo taking experience and actually create.

If you're looking for better camera quality using the auto option, I would check this out. You can download and install the apk.

The Google camera is worth a try, but when I played with it and compared it to the LG camera, I thought the LG camera produced better results.

Yeah, but I consider almost every flagship phone released, so that doesn't mean I will buy it. I currently have an S6, but if the G4 camera and screen turn out to be better, and the software doesn't make me cry, then I would consider switching from the S6.

Gotcha, noticed some of your posts about the S6. It will be interesting to see if you will jump ship to the G4. Some members choose to believe the official releases will be better than the previous pre production units. Time will tell. From this video I see very similar results or besting the S6 with the camera, not so much on the videos however.
Thanks to these reviewers on YouTube we are able to see the difference as of today between the two flagships.

Some (in fact I think all) of the pics have that kind of water colour painting look when you zoom in to 100% and that's usually the result of over aggressive noise reduction (isn't it?) so that's why I'm keen to see some RAW files (particularly of low light shots)
I'm curious about the G4 as well, as I do plan on upgrading over the summer, especially since the camera is pretty much my highest priority. Thus far, it's between this and the S6. Of course, even if the pics are great, I need to see the phone in person anyway. I am worried about the size though since I don't have large hands... XD
I see the pics just fine, though I do have a Flickr account, so not sure if that's a factor to those who can't see the pics. Maybe the OP changed the settings, no idea. I like the pics you have so far, but I definitely wanna see some low lights shots and some indoor pics as well.

what a coincidence I have iPhone 6 too with same UAG case just blue . Awesome looks and sturdy case. I am considering switching back to android with following priority:
camera must be on the par or better to s6 or iPhone 6
screen not as badly saturated as S6 . How does it look side by side with iPhone 6?
I hope it doesn't lag By the way how is the battery life and your impression over all?

LG G4 dissapointed with camera :(

Hi!
I bought Lg G4 very much for its camera, but my Nexus 6 still takes better pictures...........
First pic is from g4 and second is from Nexus 6. G4 is picking up sunlight and making pictures to bright......very dissapointed.
They look about the same to me. Try some different shots I guess.
I am quite impressed with G4 camera, beats the S6 edge and Priv we have.

You can see the sunbeam on the back of the chair on the G4.
Here is two other examples. First one from Nexus 6, second one from G4. Nexus 6 pic is much more vivid and clear, LG G4 is to bright and catches all sunlight on the picture,
Ohh yah I see it there. Have you tried dark shots with out sun light.
I don't have a Nexus 6 to compare but I do wonder if maybe you got a bad camera on a G4 (if that is possible).
Are you on the latest version too, M?
It may make a difference where you touch to focus too.

This is just different focus points. G4 has laser focus and probably focuses on another area. Indoor pictures are crap anyway especially when shot against bright windows.

Yes i am on Marshmallow. Still picks up every sunbeam there is, doesent matter where I focus. Here is another example. The sunbeam looks like a white mark across the picture, my Nexus 6 does not pick up that at all
see if this help:
clean the camera lens, then take a shot;
i have my G4 for 3 weeks and i love photography ! i have photos that make me say WT...lolololol

all in manual mode
You have full manual controls with RAW capability. Regardless of how auto works, tweaking manual settings will produce far better shots than the Nexus 6 would ever be capable of producing.
Now for the helpful less "fan boy sounding" response: LG tend to blow out highlights in the background to produce a proper exposure for the main subject.
Even the G5 looks like this will be the case, as sampled here
Personally, I think Samsung nailed the auto camera experience with the S6 generation phones. LG have more capability, but it's lessened by the fact most users are not photographers.
Kind of looking forward to the S7 for this reason, it brings back all the features I couldn't tolerate losing with the S6 and enhances the camera even more.
To fix your problem (particularly in environments like your photos)
Turn the brightness up to about 80% with auto brightness disabled
Switch to manual in the camera
Keep everything auto, but fiddle with ISO and exposure time.
Keep the ISO as low as possible while making sure you can take a photo without motion blur from hand shakes (1/30 is as slow as I go usually)
When it looks right on screen, take the shot.
If in doubt and you're feeling technogically empowered, enable RAW.
Happy snapping
Your shooting scene is a difficult one. Play with Manual. The G4 camera is plain excellent. Ecstatic even.
If you want to record a video you are doomed, no manual mode there. Enjoy massive overexposure and over saturated colors. And the retarded ois of course...

I went through my gallery to check indoor pictures. Definitely a faulty unit/optics/glass you have there, did not notice the same effect here.
Maybe you (OP) are looking at it from a wrong angle. I think the G4 camera just records what is sees. It's not its fault that there are sun rays. On the other hand, the N6 doesn't capture what there really is. Besides, the net is full of tutorials how to catch sunbeams. With G4 you get it out of the box.
This must be a problem with dirt on the lens or the protective glass, nothing to do with the camera, the camera is awesome. Could even be on the inside so it might be hard to remove without disassembling the phone.

Is anyone have a FIX for camera quality, and Snapchat quality ?

Hey all,
I received my LG G6 today, and I loved it. Until I turn on the camera. OMG. Before I had a Nexus 6P, I do not know if it is the Nexus that was exceptionally good or the LG G6 which is exceptionally bad, but I am overly disappointed.
What the hell is this camera quality on the G6? The only interesting thing is the wide angle. But it looks like all the pictures are smoothed out. And I'm not talking about the front-facing camera ... The 2013 flagship were doing better ...
On snapchat it's even worse. The app uses the ratio 18: 9, is made of 2.1 MPX photos with the front camera. And we can not fix it.
Is anyone now if it's the sensors who are completely ****ting where if it's optimizing and working the photo by software that destroys everything?
What is the best way to fix the snapchat quality?
THX
Not sure what the problem is for you guys. I'm very satisfied with the camera quality on my G6. Coming from the G5, I was a bit hesitant after reading reviews, but I have no complaints.
talk to snapchat. their POS software developers are to blame, not the phone. Android snapchat takes a screenshot of your phone as a "picture"

This. Snapchat is a useless pile of do do software which unless you are under 16 you shouldn't even be using lol.
As for normal rear facing photos the quality trumps my S8+ as I now have both phones and the G6 photos are absolutely top drawer.

Wow I never knew that, that's just terrible. I know the quality isn't great, but I had no idea that was the process the app takes.

I went into a store today to play a bit with the LG G6's camera and was also very very disappointed. The light wasn't too good, and only artificial light was available, I took a few shots of the label describing the phone from a distance of about 30cm with both the G6's f/1.8 OIS lens and my 4-year-old Xperia ZR. I set both of the phones' cameras to the highest resolution setting available, took a few shots making sure that the focus worked well, and then zoomed in on both to compare the photos side-by-side. The quality of the G6 photos was horrible, when I zoomed in it looked like really bad compression artefacts. I couldn't find any settings for picture quality, and the guy working there was trying to convince me that switching to 16:9 mode would improve quality, because "it's better". Right! (He also tried to convince me that the quality wasn't good, because it was only 13MP instead of 20MP (or more) like in other phones. I thanked him for his advice and left )
Based on the low-light photo comparison available on gsmarena I was very positively surprised by the picture quality of the G6 and was actually going to get it, yet it seems I've drastically changed my mind after this single experience.
Was I doing something wrong? Are there actually some hidden settings where you can adjust the compression quality like in other phones? I'd love to give it yet another try, if it makes any sense at all that is.
Other phones with compression quality settings ?
Which for example ?
---------- Post added at 03:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:43 AM ----------
The G6 tends to focus relatively slowly in low light. Also the low light photos tend to be a little noisy and have a white balance shifted a little to the red.
G6 IQ is really nice actually, Sony processing is easily the worst but see here, I think its pretty decent.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-PtwtQFBWg
I made a video on how to increase your snap score. Hope you enjoy it!
Try cleaning the lens first
The biggest issue in my mind is the inconsistency in performance. Under the same conditions of good light, in auto mode, I'll get either a soft dull photo or a sharp and bright one. Manual mode gives a little more consistent results-- my best outdoor shots are taken with -1-1.5 EV, then brightened post processing. Low light photos are pretty crappy overall-- pretty much like snapshots taken on flipphones from 10 years ago.
Its disappointing that I can't dependably get a great photo right "out of the box" (like you can with Samsung's S series) and that I have to fiddle with settings or mess around with modded Gcam software.
I agree that LG could have chosen a better sensor for their flagship phone, or fixed their processing algorithm.
Maybe this is one reason that Samsung has beat LG so badly in sales.
I think we keep coming back for this, but as far as i can say:
LG G6`s camera is pretty good, but tends to have problems with oversharpening, in the dark the pictures tend to looks too noisy, but using google camera app with G6 for low light conditions really does wonders.
About snapchat, as somebody mentioned, snapchat really takes a screen from camera preview, for most the part, the snaps were a so so ok, but after recent updates i also noticed, that front camera in snap has become significantly worse, and also the back cam seems a bit choppy too, so it sure has something to do on their side.
I know I'm late but I also have a G6 and found out how to fix the problem with the camera quality. Snapchat, however will still be as terrible as it is due to the developers trying to make snapchat compatible with all androids using a single app on the Google Play store (smarter if they broke the apps into different phone types likes Samsung and LG). Open up your camera app, click on the cog/settings icon. Change the photo size to 4:3 (13MP) or (5MP) for both front and back facing camera views. For video resolution, change it to FHD 16:9 (60fps) for the back facing and FHD 16:9 for front facing. Hopefully I wasn't too late.

Unfortunately, I have resell my G6 for that bug. I bought the S8+, it was better but not good. It's due to 18:9 ratio, who seems uncompatible with snapchat. There is the same problem on One Plus 5T, and on all phone who have a 18:9 ratio.
For this reason, I have resell my S8+ and then buy the Pixel XL.
I didn't find any solution for any concerned device. I think we have to wait Snapchat fix.
Snapchat will normally be full rebuild for android on january. I hope it will fix it.

Yep, I did. I'm coming from Nexus 6P, and the LG G6 caméra, except Wide angle, was bad. S8+ camera was good, except the 18:9 ratio who's doing **** on snapchat and all photo apps ( instagram, messenger,etc..).
But I've broken the screen, so I've looked fort the best camera on 16:9 ratio : The Pixel XL. As good as the S8+ for rear, and not ****in zoomed and blurred front facing camera.

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the LG V30 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I posted a video on my YouTube channel. Quality does seem pretty good so far!

Very nice. Overall, in good light at least, the camera is pretty top notch. Seemed to have some slight issues autofocusing on close up but may have not been the camera fault? Also, I really find the OIS very stable and the wide angle is even pretty stable too, HOWEVER, the only issue I have is that there is some intense wobble with the whole picture every few seconds when you are walking... that is quite frustrating, but overall I do love the stabilization.
Video Low Light Footage
Heres another video but in low light auto.
Initially I thought it looked good but upon reviewing the upload it sucked so bad.

LG camera is much better. OP5 has no OIS, and all pictures look blurry when you zoom in even a little bit (watercolor look).
i was very disappointed with my OP5 camera. i am not disappointed with LG.
The only thing bad about the LG V30 camera is the front camera.. Its worse than op5
The portrait mode can be done with the pixel camera app but you have to move ur phone a bit for it.. Its a workaround and not a starightforward fix.

Should I buy a LG G6?

Hi All
Currently have a Samsung S7 edge and considering getting a LG G6.
Does anyone recommend this?
I got lg g6, but i think i make mistake i should have bought oneplus 5
I do not think it's relevant to change from s7 edge to g6, there is very little difference, in raw performance and in photos it's the same, just the design and screen format that changes.
Even if I much prefer the g6, in your place I will stay with the s7 and I will wait for the new products to come..
For what its worth, i own a g6 currently, im planning on swichting to OnePlus as soon as 6 comes out.. Ill recommend u the same
It could be a good idea. Just depends on what do you expect from a phone, at what price you would pay for it.
I prefer the G6 mostly because:
Design.
Doesn´t have Touchwiz.
Probably more resistant.
Why are you considering the G6 over the S7?
I can't recommend LG G6, but if you'll decide to buy one - you could buy it from me, I'd be glad to get rid of it
Thanks for your replies. To be Honest the urge to change is probably due to the novelty has worn off. Really want a good camera bottom line.
In that case you do not want the G6, the camera is mediocre at best and the native app is very poor for quality on auto setting.

Oh ok, seems to get reviews generally. I did worry about the fact that LG does not update their software regularly . I think the front camera doesnt look too good either , but then I dont take alot of selfies
Maybe my S7 Edge will get Oreo soon , that will keep me distractedted for a little while!
I think I could get around £200 for my S7 (maybe more as its pristine) so I would expect to shell out around £300 to £350 for my next phone ....any suggestions?

I own the G6 ever since it came out. Everything about it is good except for the front camera. I've played with the settings and photos are sh-crap. This is my first and last LG phone until they make something better. (seriously, a 5 MP front camera?)

I'm lost on this opinion.
LG G6 is now around $400 in USA, used or refurbished go even cheaper, like $250. There aren't many phones out there in this price range with a better camera.
