Can i just Odin FLash a Diffrent Modem (Baseband) from Another Version Of The Galaxy S4
To Allow Me Use My Phone On Other Networks?
Like Use The GT-i9500 Modem (Baseband) On My Sprint Galaxy s4 To Make It a World Phone?
I'm Not Interested in The "International Unlock" as it's Useless to me because i need Local & international availability.
i saw a video where a Guy Flashed the MDC modem & a Custom Rom & Made it Happen so i know i'ts possible.
i Just want to know what's possible & just a little help on how to do it, i know how to use Odin, my phone is Rooted w/ CWM., I'll also like to use the SOKP Rom with all this = the broke man's Perfect Galaxy S4,
without buying the i9500.
so pleasse help.
I Truly appreciate Your Valuable TIme Thank you Very Much in Advance For your Help.
Noooo! Do not use modems usedbfor other phones. Do the domestic unlock.
I have a Virgin Mobile S5 - and was thinking of rooting it and a recovery also.
My ROM G900PVPU1ANE5
I see in the Sprint S5 area it will work (I did similar with my VM S II)
Anyway; is there a way to get a backup of my Stock ROM? - There are no V.M. ROMS in the lists (or anywhere I look for that matter) except Canada and it is different.
I wondered about something like Rickys Rom Kitchen to get a ROM BU - I will read that post and see if I can make any sence of it all.
I ask, just in case something was to happen - and without a Stock Virgin Mobile ROM I could not get it back to stock.
FWIIW - My S5 does not seem to have anything Knox on it -
Edit - when installing recovery - it reported knox
There are dozens of firmware repositories, not to mention a links to a lot of firmware on this site. It's difficult to believe that you did a decent search and couldn't find any stock firmware for your carrier.
Tell us what sites you have checked and what keywords you searched with and no doubt someone will be able to point out a site you missed.
.
I have looked:
here - Plus
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares
http://forums.androidcentral.com/
http://www.galaxys5update.com/galaxy-s5-stock-firmware/
http://galaxys5root.com/galaxy-s5-stock-firmware/
http://www.idroidspace.com/official-stock-rom-for-samsung-galaxy-s5/
http://www.androidrootz.com/p/galaxy-s5-stock-firmwares.html
http://samsung-updates.com/
and maybe a couple others i did not see quickly in my history
I searched with many terms;
Galaxy S5 ROMS
Galaxy S5 Firmware
Virgin Mobile Galaxy S5 ROMS
G900PVPU1ANE5 <-- Sprint has same number (But theirs is branded Sprint and will likely show a Sprint Splash on boot)
(As I had this same type thing with my Galaxy S II from Virgin Mobile a good while ago and had to use a Sprint ROM)
I will be a VERY happy camper, if someone can find a site I missed! (With my V.M. ROM/Firmware on it)
Since you gave details of actually having searched (most people claim they have, but really didn't), I did some digging for you.
The reason that you are having difficulty finding stock Virgin (US) firmware is because Virgin US is a Sprint MVNO (Virtual Network Operator) that is wholly owned by Sprint since 2009. This means that Virgin US uses the Sprint network and is supported by Sprint vis a vis the Virgin US offices in New Jersey.
As a MNVO, Virgin US uses the same S5 variant as Sprint, the same MCC and the same firmware. Only the CSC, MNC and APN info (and a few branded apps) vary. Moreover, since Sprint is using multi-CSC firmware, the firmware is often tagged as SPR (Sprint) or Unknown when it actually is the original, stock firmware for Sprint, Virgin US and Boost (another Sprint MVNO).
So the original firmware for your phone is in fact the Sprint version. If your phone currently has Virgin US firmware on it, then installing the multi-CSC firmware should retain your correct CSC. If it was me, I'd just do a quick check afterwards.. your CSC should obstensibly be VMU.
SPR = Sprint
VMU = Virgin US
BST = Boost Mobile
.
Tkx for the details ffft
I may just go ahead and root it - and put a custom recovery on also.
I rarely have had issues with my cell phones (Warranty that is)
I just would feel better if I could restore it.
I do not know much at all about Cell Phones and the terminology (I looked up a few of them you have here)
I just found a way to check these (by *#1234# ) and came up with:
AP G900PVPU1ANE5
CP G900PVPU1ANE5
CSC G900PSPT1ANE5
I do not know what the AP and CP are but at least I can check them
AP firmware version
CP radio version
CSC sales code (region or carrier code)
The long CSC is a bit cryptic. But you can use an app like Phone Info to get the more commonly used three character code. Or if you are rooted, you could look at the build.prop file.

OK I installed PhilZ CWM Advanced Touch (Recovery) without root.
Then I did a full back up
and also found a "Clone ROM" and did that also
(it makes an update.zip)
Now I "should" be able to root - and if something happens flash the ROM I made with PhilZ's CWM
** See below Post - it does not stick when not rooted (Unless I did something wrong)
OK I rooted (CF auto root)
And I still show the Virgin Mobile splash
I did have some problem with PhilzCWM until I rooted - it would not "stay" there
I could run Odin and install it and one time boot to it and do back ups
But next boot it was gone
After I rooted - I re installed it - and it "stuck"

All normal behaviour.
Glad you got there. Everything runs better with root The objection to your custom recovery before you rooted was no doubt Knox seeing it as an unauthorized change.

Great thread
Really loving your thread. I just came from a broken s4 to Virgin mobile s5. I understand Odin/root/rom installs/returning to factory stock to update etc...
Obviously Virgin Mobile s5 threads are limited here and would like to work together and update each other.
I got root without tripping knox "not cf autoroot method" but "towelroot" method.
First thing we need to work on is getting the .tar file for odin to return to factory stock if something happens.
With all the updates that will probebly be rolling in soon im reluctant to install a custom recovery because you can't update it "over the air."
Second thing is i have no idea to get a official thread going.
Other thought
I orginally came from a Virgin Mobile Evo 4g 3D and the ROMs was aroma based. There was a specific setting if you had a sprint or virgin mobile phone during the installation. I believe it's about having to change APN settings and whatnot. Need to research this Sprint/Virgin Mobile/ROM duo more and what exactly needs to be changed.
Im confident the Sprint ROM itself is good. Just particular settings, one for example, the APN needs to be switched back to whatever Virgin Mobile is.
Interesting tid-bit the Phone info app shows my Samsung s/n as 00000000000 now
No Country of Origin
Knox Warr = 0x1 (Does that mean knox is tripped)?
Product Code: Not Active
I noticed that there does not seem to be a s/n on it - except for the MEID (hex and dec) and a ICC ID
I updated with Kies 3 to G900PVPU1ANK4
This (natrually) made my Virgin Moblie S5 Stock again.
Then did both CF auto root and PhilZ CWM Advanced Touch (Recovery)
And it all seems to work fine again.
HELP PLS

I need your help desperately! I just got my virgin mobile s5 yesterday and I am new to running Custom ROMs. I rooted it and successfully installed PhilZ CWM Advanced Touch. From here I think I skipped a step in CWM to make a proper backup (yeah I'm that noob). Well I successfully installed Slimkat and got it to run on my phone, but I couldn't configure the APN properly on virgin mobile after countless installations of different "universal fixes" for the vmu apn. Now I can't get it back to the stock firmware! I am downloading the sprint firmware right now, specifically the G900PVPU1ANE5_G900PSPT1ANE5_SPR.zip. I couldn't find virgin mobile stock firmware. Do you think it will work if I flash it on there? If not, do you happen to have a backup to the G900P virgin mobile version I could flash? I just need service again.
To get back to stock try using Samsung Kies 3 program on your computer
Sent from my SM-G900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I'm trying that and Kies 3 is saying that it's not supported. When I try and do an emergency firmware recovery the phone doesn't even show up! Any other ideas please?

Also know that I am successfully running on slimkat but I don't have an img for the stock software
Make sure your computer sees the S5
Not sure what else to try.
I have never found a VM S5 Stock ROM
I do not have a stock ROM BU.

Okay I'll still try a few things. Do you have any backups or know of any roms that for sure work with the virgin mobile data service? I am just running into a bunch of issues with slimkat and if you knew a rom that was compatible with Virgin Mobile and this model of s5 I could have mobile service again! especially if you knew the steps how to do it

I would suggest you do it the way I did - It worked for me.

I used Option 2: Download Chainfire's S5 Autoroot (Odin included in package)
for Root & Recovery

Ahh yes I also took these steps to root and download a custom recovery on my phone, which I succeeded in doing. Perhaps I haven't made my problem clear. I have PhilZ installed and everything along with a rooted phone. I am currently running Slimkat but I do not have any mobile service so the phone is useless at the moment. My issue is is that I have no ROM backed up. And look, I'm sorry to pester you like this but at this point I would honestly offer you monetary incentive if you help me resolve this. I'm pretty desperate :silly: I saved up for a long time for this phone and I would really like to use its cellular functions. What ROM do you currently use on your phone and what steps did you take to get mobile service working on it? Thank you very much for your time
I've heard it's possible to flash the T-Mobile stock ROM to the AT&T S4, since the hardware is identical. I'm wondering if it's also possible on the S7 Edge. My guess is that they'd continue with the identical hardware pattern and it would be possible, but I'd just like to double check. The last thing I want is to brick my $600 phone.
If it is, are there any tricks I should be aware of? Do I need to flash an AT&T kernel?
Thanks!
yes you can
It does work. flash with donateflashing09's odin. Download the tmo firmware (flash the csc, not home csc in the file) youll find here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...ekx-dev-deodex-systemui-3minit-multi-t3411776.
consider using the tekhd custom... his stuff is A+++
doesn't work, keep getting a bad checksum
Hi, and good morning it is possible convert from a 930P into another model? I flash the 930U but this firmware just released quarter update, Samsung have a bad support... and with sprint room I can't get a call while in 4g, if I have 4G activate the s7 don't change automatically like in the 930u firm... I want to know your opinion about that's and Why the qualcomm have the worst support ever seen in a high level smartphone
Yes you can flash a 930V, 930A, or 930T firmware on your device. Updato.com, is a great place to download official firmware just search for "SM-G930V, SM-G930T, or SM-G930A" which ever flavour you want to download and flash via Odin following the many guides on the forums. Happy flashing.
I have the SM-J320A, AT&T version, and now being used outside the USA. Specs on GSMArena indicate that this phone is one of the versions of the J3 2016 family: J320FN (Europe); J320F (EMEA); J320F/DD (India); J320A (AT&T); J320P (Sprint, Virgin Mobile, Boost); Galaxy Amp Prime (Cricket); Galaxy J3 V (Verizon); J320M (LATAM); J320G (Asia).
1. So does this mean all these versions are identical in Hardware?
If there is no other option, I will install the AT&T newest version, however I would prefer to see if it's possible to use a non-AT&T FW so I can get monthly updates. So...
2. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to put a NON-AT&T 'open' version stock FW on the SM-J320A... and I would then be able to receive the security updates direct from Samsung...
Hope what I am asking is clear.
Robert
The j320 model has three different soc. The j320a is exynos based. The different exynos models are J320a, j320ag, j320az & j320w8.
But with this device only the carriers supply updates, unfortunately.
Not sure if it's an option, but I activated an att sim for their prepaid service (25¢ per minute or something)... Will never use the $10 I spent for the service, but I can update ota now.
Other than that keep your eyes here, we try to keep the latest firmwares available for download.

That's the best answer I've had on a forum... That makes it clear. So since I cannot really do what I was asking, no problem, I am willing to install the AT&T 7.1.1 version J320AUCU2AQI5. Only issue now is that as said, the phone is in use outside the US currently so cannot get the OTA DL. Is there any way or source to DL the full stock firmware for flash via Odin? Would prefer fully stock version with no rooting, etc.... I have a Macbook Pro for the flashing if it makes any diff.
Robert

Ok thanks again...
Is that completely stock and flashes with Odin?
Any other special instructions needed to flash?
Just asking as it seems there is a lot of discussion on the entire thread and I'm not sure which issues are coming with which downloads.
Robert
Any issues where addressed.
Yes 100% stock.
Nothing special just load all four files in odin and flash it
Forgive me if I sound like a real dingba5, but I can't control myself from asking this. I have developed what can only be described as an unexplainable and illogical obsession with altering my Galaxy Express 2 SM-J327A 's factory condition. From what I know, there's no custom recovery, no ROM, no ROOT. NOTHING for this model. But the Sprint, Boost, etc. variants are all living it up in zip flashing heaven.
So using the same logic my man was using here, which was making sense, could I flash J327P firmware onto my device without ruining my day......
