Just happened to swipe right on my homescreen and noticed that Google Now is suddenly sporting a translucent design. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it some kind of A/B testing?
Here's what it looks like. The version number is 7.8.22.21.arm64.
I read an article about this not too long ago, but this is a roll out that they are playing with. https://www.google.com/amp/s/9to5google.com/2017/07/15/google-now-translucent-redesign-pixel/amp/

Ah, that's it. Probably should've Googled a bit more before jumping on here. Thanks
It looks really nice, I can't wait to get it.

Just got it. I too hate the missing swipe. It works on page two which isnt using the new look. That leads me to believe that they had to get rid of it to make the new look work. SMH.
So if you disable the app it uninstalls the update. Then switch ypur language to English Canadian.....then update it from the play store you can keep the old version.
For now at least.
Strange, I'm on pixel XL latest August security patch nougat, same version 7.8.22.21, and I don't have the new design.

The change is on their side somehow. The version doesn't go up when it happens.
I absolutely hate the update....looking to see if I can get bixby on my xl

Had it for two days and now reverted back to old. Don't know what Google is smoking on the new design. The UX is poor.
All the new interface gives you is the news. It doesn't give you cards based on context and you have to click on the button on the top right to switch.
Then when you are done instead of swiping right to get to your home screen you have to press the home key on your navigation (as you are actually going into the Google app).
I prefer the context cards like "upcoming" better than just the news.
This new design is terrible. The old version was so much better and relevant. Now I'm a few more clicks away from the info I need.
Those who have done the "change language trick" has the ui ever updated?
Besides this is how they should do a Translucent UI
With old UI, I can swap to "done" with a Google Now feed card, but with this new UI, I cannot swap to "done" but have to click the 3-dot button and then select "done with this"...
Agreed. Serious downgrade in this case.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Hello,
Thank you for the downgrade info...The new format sucks! I just did the fix on the first page and will report back if it reverts.
Well that sucked, it reverted right away. Looks like the only way to make it stick is to disable updates after downgrading. I have downgraded my Google app to 7.9.21.16 still using English USA and it is holding...swipe away!
Cheers
This is the worst Google Feed update since its inception. Tried downgrading to 7.9.21.16 and disabling updates but the new stupid UI reappeared anyway.
Has anyone found a solution to revert to the old UI?
Translucent or not I can't get Feed to stick no matter what. "Can't reach your feed at the moment". Any Solution that sticks?

Yeah, except the ability to really choose it's color beyond some very fluffy defaults, is gone.
Anyone been able to install daydream? This update was supposed to enable it for us but I can't install from the play store, still "unavailable." Sideloading the apk, it launches but gets to a point in setup that says the phone is not daydream ready. I could use daydream on my rooted HTC 10 and was really looking forward to having it back

Maybe it's something Google has to flip a switch on. The update just puts the groundwork in place and then Google has to add the device to a "blessed" list. Just a thought.
That's what I was thinking, I figured with the update being today and the latest apk on apkmirror being july 13th, they neex to update the app itself
Any other changes?

As a follow up on this issue. It appears that the T-Mobile version also was updated with the same nav bar updates. So I contacted Samsung and with no surprise was just told Samsung is always updating firmwarer to enhance your experience. They could not state whether the same changes would come to the unlocked version. So I have 15 days to determine whether to return the unlocked one and figure out what this may make me do with the verizon version. I might be able to tolerate it but I am tired of paying large sums of money and having no control or say on what is added or removed from my device. I don't rant much but the idea of sneaking in some little change without noting it in update descriptions is not good business practice.

Sadly, I think the navbar color limitation will come to all models. I think they're doing this to try and reduce burn in. The color choice is so mild/mixed that it won't tax the pixels to as much of a total on/off state. It keeps them in line with the rest of the screen use. That's my theory anyway.

I'm noticing since the update and possibly since the "Samsung Always on update" my Verizon S8+ seems to be warm in the back of the phone. The phone just seems to stay warm. My cpu temperature with no activity and the phone in my pocket is a constant 39.9-40.4 . I do use the "always on display", but can never ever remember my phone being warm all the time like that when I pull it out of my pocket. Strangely enough when removed from my pocket and in use the phone starts feeling cooler, cpu temperature at first going to 44.2, but with more use going down to 40.2. I've always had the setting to keep the screen off when the phone is in my pocket enabled.
Anyone else experiencing this ?

Good luck with the return. I tried to return my phone and ended up with nothing but lip service. I called four different times and was told four different times that a return shipping label would be e-mailed to me within five business days. Well....that was a month ago and I'm still waiting for that e-mail!!
So today I found out that the latest version of Swipe for Facebook (I think, pretty sure) created major problems. Pixel launcher would constantly crash, phone became semi useless cause of that. Then a couple reboots later, screen would go black after unlocking pass code. So I had to factory reset it. I reinstalled swipe and bam Pixel launcher crashed. So I used Google assistant to open Google play store and Uninstalled the app. So far no issue. My phone is a Google version and unlocked bootloader.

It is that simple. Plus it smells more like a problem that the developer of the app needs to resolve, rather then being beware for the "pixel".
So report it to the developer instead of just ranting here, I think that might be a lot more productive. Or don't use it. Either way, not a "Pixel" issue....

I'm not saying it wasn't a problem with the app. What I am saying is that it is not a run of the mill app crashing, where you just uninstall and everything is good. Having someone or now two people mention it took a factory reset to fix things after installing the app is useful. Then people can decide to take a chance or wait.
Ignore them, uninstalling swipe made my pixel great again so we know it's not fake

This was horrible for me. For some reason even though my phone was setup 48 hours prior cloud backup did not back up my texts. So because of **** testing on a Play Store app I lost all my messages. I'd like to know exactly what the **** did the developer do to cause this. I've never seen a Play Store app this damaging before. I've honestly never had anything like this happen on a stock device. So true. It's amazing to me that with all of Facebook's resources and with how much they rely on mobile users, that their mobile app is still so f***ing terrible. I was having some lag/stuttering issues on my LG V30 and after uninstalling facebook and LG's built in facebook installer app, my phone started running buttery smooth and hasn't hiccuped since. Now I just check facebook occasionally when I'm in front of my computer.
Uninstalling it from your phone immediately shows you how little you need that crap feed in your life.
Facebook is and always will be coded like garbage.

Just thought I'd let those of you who can't root their note and didn't know that Samsung blocked all the ability to theme/change fonts on your phone from anywhere but their official theme store. So, if you have substratum and have purchased andromeda, themegalaxy, swift installer.....etc, you are SOL. In order for any of those to work, you'd have to have root. This is going to be my last Sammy phone ever. First they lock down their bootloaders (I know carriers are involved and want you to upgrade every year), then now are locking any third party themes. And to top it off, they are horrible at pushing updates/new software to their customers. If you buy a locked down phone, you'd get a couple of updates (I mean android versions not security updates) then you're stuck with an older version of android until you buy a new phone.
Just thought I'd throw this out there so you decide whether or not to update to pie. IF there is a way to block automatic updates.

I think is has to do with Google slowly working towards making a dark theme systemwide, should be available on next version of Android. You can also expect even more difficulties using overlays on next Android.
Google is trying to tighten things up on Android. Do I like? No! But we can't say they are wrong to do it either.
I mean, look at how many Android devices are activated daily. Security lately is a much bigger concern for all companies and users. Blocking modifications and overlays is a way of making your phone more secure.
Thanks for sharing but I don't use third party themes anymore since most of them seems to drain the battery way too much
Why not just downgrade to Oreo 8.1 ? PIE-9 ONE UI Sucks at the moment.. Maybe 6 months or a years’ time it might get there and then ill upgrade!! Until then I’m sticking to 8.1 as it rocks!

Hey boys and girls!
Got a question about features, functionalities and how tos? One offs that don't deserve a full thread? Let's try asking it here.
Let me start.
Anyone know how to have a banner as a notification? One that you can swipe away instead of a little bubble you can expand and have to drag into a little garbage.
Edit: If anyone else is wondering. Found the solution here: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S10/Pop-up-notification-bubles-S10/m-p/472476#M1495

Does anyone know why it takes 5+ minutes to download a 40mb app. I did a factory reset and the way things are looking I'm looking at about 6hrs to download all my apps. My WiFi is 400mbps so it's pretty fast. I tried clearing the cash for the playstore and play services to no avail. Any ideas?

Same experience here. Did some tests in comparison to my Oneplus 6 which is at least two times faster. I tried with different S10+'s, same results. It's a nice phone, but you have to be patient
Thanks for starting this thread !
My question is, is there anyway to use the Edge lighting to show when charging? I miss the physical LED that indicated when the phone was charging!

You can use the app Always On Edge for that purpose.

Not that I know. I know that good Lock adds functionality to edge lighting but not that function in particular. Maybe someone else could chime in. On a brighter note I saw in a Samsung forum that Samsung was working on giving the lights around the camera some of those led functions. It didn't come from Samsung officially so who knows. That being said RIP phisical LED!

Hi, when I update or download apps from play store, there's no progress in the notification. But apps do get updated/downloaded.
S10+ Chinese SD version.
Anyone has any insights? Thanks in advance.

Well that's normal behavior. The only progress bar you'll see is in the app store itself and if you happen to be using one of the apps being updated it might force close. I'm not sure sure what the question is. Maybe a bit more details in regards to what you're trying to accomplish might help. ?

Hi All
Im experiencing a drop in data connectivity once in a while, be it with browser, fb, ig, youtube etc. BUT my 4G icon is still available and present at the navigation bar with full service reception.
I called my provider if there is any issues on their end but they said all is fine up and running.
Anybody having this issues or isit my baseband faulty or some kind? Snapdragon hardware btw. I have hard reset it by using the buttons but still no use.
Im an avid android geek having 3 4 phone changed in a year but this is by far the most frustrated device yet
Please help do i need to turn off some settings or what not?
Hopefully its just a software glitch or something it would be a hassle to send in for investigation.
Did you try a "Reset network settings"? That would probably be my first step in troubleshooting.

AR emoji with non-Samsung keyboards
Am I blind? Or am I just not seeing how to use the AR emojis in other SMS apps (tried both Android Messages and Chomp SMS)? I'm not a big fan of the stock SMS app.

No need to remove it. After latest update, deleting old scan and setting a new one it works perfect even with "prebuilt" protector.

Are you giving it a bit of time? I noticed that it's kind of a crapshoot at first but now after 2 weeks it's like 98%

Depending on the keyboard you're using just press + or whatever you do if you're adding a picture and select the AR emoji you want from your album. Is that not working for you?

I can do that but I cannot find in gallery, or anywhere else, the AR emojis. It only seems to work in the stock Messages app as it puts a dedicated button for this purpose in the input box.

Are you sure it's the stock messaging app or is it the stock keyboard?

Anyone have any idea when we may get a Leaked of Android 10 Beta, since T-Mobile is working on it I read???
It may not leak, who knows. The official betas only work with the Google pixel which is out already. To me, Android 10 sucks as it's all swipe gestures to do stuff, so I am not in a hurry to get it.

Sorry bro, but T-Mobile is no longer working on the Android 10. They had marked the Android 10 update under the 'testing' phase earlier, but it turns out it was a mistake as yesterday, they fixed by marking the update to be under 'Development' phase, meaning Samsung is still building the update and that they are yet to receive it. (Source)
Sad.
There's been a beta program with every other major release for Samsung, why not 10

You still have the option for buttons. If your upgrading from 9 with buttons enabled it will stay after update. Otherwise you have the option during setup and in settings.

This is good news! I thought on screen buttons were completely removed from Android 10 due to a YouTube demo I watched. I gotta have my buttons!

Yep me also StoneyJSG.
So looking at the ota server log its looking like they are currently working on android 10 update.
The "o=10" part is usually what marks the android version the firmware is for. (i cant confirm that but based on previous updates listed that number has reflected the android version)
