Face Unlock - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have SGN4 with stock Android 5.1.1. I am getting sick of the fingerprint unlock and wonder if there is any chance to get Face Unlock without installing a custom ROM? Thanks for your input.

No dont think there is any other way

As far as my knowledge is concerned, I don't think

Sad. Thanks, guys, anyways.

Quick question about rooting

If an Android is rooted and running a custom ROM, is it considered "unlocked" or is that another procedure. I have rooted and loaded custom ROMs to a few of my Android phones, but never thought about whether that unlocks them. I know this may sound like newbish question and I appologize, but I am curious. Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thanks.
The phone is still considered "locked". Root / Custom ROM won't unlock phone. you'll need an unlock code to unlock it.
Thanks man, you cleared up my question.

[Q] Root AT&T’s S5 Active SM-G870A for use in Germany?!

Hi there,
I would love to buy a S5 Active in the U.S. an use it in Germany. Since it is looked to AT&T which we don't have in Germany, I want to root it.
For the past 2 days I did some research in this forum. It turned out that it's more complicated than I thought.
My English is not that good, so before I actually buy a phone I want to make sure that I understood everything... more or less.
So, if I get my hands on a phone with 4.4. or 5.0 on it, there is no problem to root it because there is no blocked bootloader, right?
I don't know though which ROM I should use in that case? Which one runs best on the S5 Active?
If the phone is running on 5.1. there is the problem with the locked bootloader, right? In that case I use this guide?
If I get a phone that is running on 6.0 or 6.1 I need to downgrade to 5.0 or 5.1 using this guide and the just do one of the two steps above accordingly?
Does that mean it doesn't matter if the phone I buy runs on 4.4, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, or 6.1? Can I root in anyway?
Thanks heaps for your help!
Cheers Sam
you dont need to root it for international use. If its not bound to a contract with at&t anymore, then youd just need to contact at&t to have them unlock it for international use. if youre worried about the cost to call at&t, just get the textnow app, get a usa phone number and call them via the app over wifi for absolutely no cost. or, if your worried about your english being a barrier, go to idoneapps.com and they can unlock it for you for $35. I unlocked 2 G900P (sprint S5) with them.
Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
Well, I also though about just getting a unlocked one or to unlock a locked one. BUT then I have all those atnt Apps that I can't uninstall.
So I figured, the only way to get rid of them is to root the device right?
Cheers, Sam

youre correct, those specific apps do require root to remove. Then youd want something like Titanium backup to get that job done
I havent found anything so far that will show me how to root a G870A ACTIVE on 5.0 (OF3) all these links go to methods that show how to do it on a G900 (non active) if anyone can point me in a direction that would work i would much appreciate it.

i think the bootloader is still locked on that device. Not getting much love from devs either. Not sure there is a solution for this, sorry good sir
Well I received the SM-G780A today. It is not locked to AT&T anymore so I can actually use it without rooting it.
However the preloaded apps are just a pain. So I am thinking about rooting it anyway.
The Android Version is 5.0 and the Kernel Version 3.4.0-4443965. Do I understood it right that the bootloader is not locked in Androit 5.0 yet?
What's the best way to root it and is there any chance to get a rooted Android 6 running on it?
Cheers Sam

How to unlock bootloader and get TWRP?

Dear XDA Members and U Ultra owners,
I just recently purchased the U Ultra sapphire glass edition 128GB Dual Sim and I would really like to install the deodexed firmware with root that's available. However, in order to flash that firmware, I think first I'd need to unlock the bootloader and get TWRP? Is there a current guide on how to unlock bootloader and side load TWRP?
I'm familiar with the whole process just haven't seen a guide for this phone as of yet, or at least haven't looked well enough to find one. I thought I'd ask here and it would make it a little bit easier.
I have unlocked bootloader on many phones before and I was wondering if it's the same process for this phone... Do I have to unlock it through HTC Dev? And what about TWRP, where can I find it for this phone? The website? Or is there a custom build version for this phone since its not that popular?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
So I guess I found out where to get the recovery from... Does this work with the dual sim version? https://forum.xda-developers.com/u-ultra/development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3558540
I guess the only thing left now is the bootloader. I could use some advice on that.

I managed to figure it out. I attempted to unlock the bootloader through HTC Dev website which was a fairly simple process as I've done this several times before. I'm just waiting on the email for the unlock.bin file and for some reason it's taking its time and I've not received it yet, been well over an hour. Odd isn't it? Or is this normal?
Now I guess my only question is the S-on/S-off.
I remember with HTC M9 and 10 you had to use sunshine to s-off. Is that also required with the u ultra?
Sorry, forgot to make an update letting everyone know that all of this was taken care of successfully, I'm currently rooted and on a deodxed 8.0 Rom with magisk and twrp. Everything going great!
hello and thank you for this monologue ...
I am on the site of HTC dev but in the choice of the phone there is no U Ultra, is it normal?
Would it be easy to tell me more about the S-off method, and more, please?

Galaxy Tab A8 T590?

Is there any development, or at least any possible root method or is it possible to unlock the bootloader?
I'd like to buy it next month.
i'm interested in this tablet too, so having lineage on it would be cool. thanx.
+1
Interested too in rooting LTE variant SM-T595N.
Anyone tried KingRoot?
KingRoot, with a Samsung device? are you kidding?
You have to be kidding..
@mingkee after using part of your guide to root my tab a and all i went through with that we actually discovered how to circumvent the 7 day OEM unlock yesterday in case you didn't notice.
thanks for the start.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-a/development/twrp-3-2-1-1-tab-sm-t380-10-02-2018-t3747564 << last few pages discuss OEM unlock, see for yourself. Your post was one of 4 that caused that to happen. TY.
The key issue is bootloader.
If it's never locked, I can download the full ROM and see is there anything to do
oh it locks, it's just it is possible to unlock it immediately, so it locking at all is useless. Yeah, it WAS the key issue.
we both know Samsung has worse schemes on the way, probably sooner than we anticipate.
we might have even sped them towards that by doing this, but such is progress.
unless that particular device your looking at is protected somehow other than a 7 day OEM unlock switch, which i doubt yet.
I have the T595 and was wondering if there is anything..
Do not like the sluggish Samsung OS and wondered if there was a LineageOS release?
You're at liberty to install any compatible GSI you wish.

Samsung S7 Edge - Re-lock the Bootloader Help Needed

Hello,
I flashed my Samsung S7 edge to custom ROM, Later i decided to go with the Stock ROM and done so, but seems still the bootloader is unlocked.
I want to re-Lock by bootloader again, can some one help on how to do that ?
Thanks
What do you want to do that for ?? Leave it like this, because if you have a problem with sofware it will be easier to repair.

Thanks for the response, I have an compelling reason to do that, which is my office work profile (office emails) have stopped working because of the bootloader unlock.
