Quick question about rooting - Android Software Development

If an Android is rooted and running a custom ROM, is it considered "unlocked" or is that another procedure. I have rooted and loaded custom ROMs to a few of my Android phones, but never thought about whether that unlocks them. I know this may sound like newbish question and I appologize, but I am curious. Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thanks.

The phone is still considered "locked". Root / Custom ROM won't unlock phone. you'll need an unlock code to unlock it.

Thanks man, you cleared up my question.

Flashing and Carrier Lock

Sorry if this is somewhere on the site, but I cannot find it after searching for a while.
Simple question. Will flashing the phone affect the carrier unlock on the phone? It is the only thing keeping me from jumping in. I am pretty sure that they are unrelated, but I want to make sure. Thanks.
this is a Q&A, but your phone will still be carrier locked if you root and flash. you need to get the unlock code to unlock your phone, after that your good to go. I actually asked this question a few months ago in another forum.
Thanks for the answer, but I am actually asking the opposite. My phone is currently unlocked and I want to make sure that flashing will not re lock it.
Im petty sure it wont lock, but I'm not %100 on that, better wait till someone who knows for sure to post.
It won't, I unlocked before rooting, wiping and flashing the device. I've never had to re-enter the unlock code.
Thanks. After flashing Cyanogen last night, I can confirm that rooting and flashing does not re engage the carrier lock.

Can I change my bootloader on my S4?

Hello all. I just got a new Galaxy S4 (i337m) and I hate the stock firmware on it. I want to install something custom, however the custom roms require a certain bootloader that I do not have. I have searched for if / how I can change my bootloader but none of the forum posts I have found seem to be related to my specific phone so I'm posting this to find out about my specific phone. I believe it is a locked Fido phone. I used the ADB shell to check the bootloader version and it is not the UCUAMDB or UCUAMDL bootloader I need to have for the roms Im interested in. Mine was something like CUVL. I can verify later when I get home. However, can I change my bootloader? If so, are there any instructions for this specific phone? My goal for this phone is a light weight / vanilla version of 5.1.1 Lollipop, rooted. Thanks.
If it's an actual i337m the bootloader is already unlocked... I'm a bit rusty though. I've moved on to a G4, and dumped most of my S4 knowledge with it.

How can I tell if it is unlocked? If it is unlocked, does that mean I can install a different bootloader?

Need a Developer to Assist in Upgrade of Note 4 Developer Edition

I am looking for a Developer or someone else who is very experienced to help me upgrade my Note 4 Developer Edition to the latest version and possibly to a ROM. It's currently rooted, bootloader is unlocked, and on BOG5. All the threads out there that say safe Retal/Dev upgrade are confusing to me. I tried one in the past and it locked my bootloader and had to send it back to Sammy. I don't want that to happen again.
What little experience I have with rooting and changing ROMs are with my old Galaxy Nexus, which had way easier methods than this phone, in my opinion. I also, don't want to have to use King Root or Kingo Root because I don't want my IMEI stolen. All I need is for someone who knows what they are doing to tell me exactly what to do for my phone and its setup, help debug if I have issues, and be somewhat easily accessible by email or chat if I have questions.
I'm not a total noob at this stuff. I can't say i completely understood what I did on my old Nexus but it worked. I bricked it a few times but was able to fix it by reading forums. The margin of error for the Note 4 Dev Ed just seems to be much narrower since I am trying to avoid the shady rooting tools.
If you are interested, shoot me a private message with how much you would charge for this, briefly describe your experience level, and when you can be available to help so we can coordinate.
Thanks

This thread can be deleted. I ended up doing it myself,

6gb RAM model and Rooting question...?

Hi Friends,
Very quick and simple question:
Is there a way to Root (and maybe Unroot) the 6gb RAM model WITHOUT unlocking the Bootloader?
I only ask because unlocking the Bootloader voids the ZTE 2 year warranty, and there is no way to reverse/relock it, correct?
Thanks for your responses!
Read the root without unlock thread and the newbie unlocking guide.
Thanks bud, so looks like it is possible to root without Bootloader unlock? How about going back to stock after root?
@lafester or some other helpful member, can you please link me to the pertinent thread that I could use to root the ENHANCED (6gb RAM model in the US)? Preferably, I'd like to root with the Bootloader unlocked too, ONLY if there is a way to return to complete stock, including relocking the Bootloader.
Simply speaking, I want to order the phone and try it, but am not sure if I'd be able to live with the camera performance and etc... I'd like to be to root and unlock Bootloader, if I can, but if I don't keep the phone, I'd like to return to complete stock. Can someone help? Thanks!
I gave you the threads already.
@lafester I am sorry bud, but I didn't see any links in your post. Also, any chance you could simply answer my question, if you have the knowledge ? Would deeply appreciate it. Thanks!

How to unlock bootloader and get TWRP?

Dear XDA Members and U Ultra owners,
I just recently purchased the U Ultra sapphire glass edition 128GB Dual Sim and I would really like to install the deodexed firmware with root that's available. However, in order to flash that firmware, I think first I'd need to unlock the bootloader and get TWRP? Is there a current guide on how to unlock bootloader and side load TWRP?
I'm familiar with the whole process just haven't seen a guide for this phone as of yet, or at least haven't looked well enough to find one. I thought I'd ask here and it would make it a little bit easier.
I have unlocked bootloader on many phones before and I was wondering if it's the same process for this phone... Do I have to unlock it through HTC Dev? And what about TWRP, where can I find it for this phone? The website? Or is there a custom build version for this phone since its not that popular?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
So I guess I found out where to get the recovery from... Does this work with the dual sim version? https://forum.xda-developers.com/u-ultra/development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3558540
I guess the only thing left now is the bootloader. I could use some advice on that.

I managed to figure it out. I attempted to unlock the bootloader through HTC Dev website which was a fairly simple process as I've done this several times before. I'm just waiting on the email for the unlock.bin file and for some reason it's taking its time and I've not received it yet, been well over an hour. Odd isn't it? Or is this normal?
Now I guess my only question is the S-on/S-off.
I remember with HTC M9 and 10 you had to use sunshine to s-off. Is that also required with the u ultra?
Sorry, forgot to make an update letting everyone know that all of this was taken care of successfully, I'm currently rooted and on a deodxed 8.0 Rom with magisk and twrp. Everything going great!
hello and thank you for this monologue ...
I am on the site of HTC dev but in the choice of the phone there is no U Ultra, is it normal?
Would it be easy to tell me more about the S-off method, and more, please?
