Phone reboots after getting a little hot! - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Hey guys
I hace this problem when my phones gets a little hot it will suddenly reboot!
For example when Im playing a heavy game or using wifi hotspot on my lte network...it goes more than 45 degrees and reboots!
Does anyone know how to change this tempreture limit?
Because I have seen phones that go more than 60 and wont get damaged! (like htc one m9 or xperia z5)
I see the tempreture with a third party app named DU battery saver...

Yesterday I had a 2+ hour phone call while on the charger and mine barely was warm but I wasn't holding the phone either.
Last night I was Downloading a large file, Listening to music and playing a game while on the charger and although the phone was warm, it didn't shut down.

No I don't, never had any reason to use one.
I have overheating problems when i play pocket legends, once i check the temp and it was 58'C but my phone never close...
Yeah whenever I play glow hockey when the phone is charging, temp goes to 56 degrees and thereabouts! Have to power off phone and wait for a while.
Temp doesn't go up if its not being charged.
Also, this didn't happen in stock SE. Only on Wolfbreak's CM

Phone overheats on stock rom

Hi all,
My phone started overheating on the most basic of tasks, when I browse the Web it burns through 1% of battery every minute and the top of the phone (both back and the screen) gets unbearably hot. I tied different browsers and it does it with all of them.
Any advice on how to fix this?
Thank you.

I haven't checked the temperature per se but both the screen and the back around the camera get hot to the point where you can hardly touch them. Something is triggering the CPU to run like crazy when browsing.
Are you using Lollipop? I think thats why. My phone gets hot with lowest brightness and only widi enabled after 2 minutes of browsing reddit. Its very hot...

Yea that is weird. I want to go back on KitKat cause my telephone is very hot. :/
How much battery does KitKat normally use when people browse the web on wifi for an hour? Cuz for me it is literally 50-60% in an hour's time. Should I factory reset? Don't really feel like it but if it is my only option...

I checked the temperature, it hovers around 68-70 C when browsing the web. Is this normal? GSM Arena are reporting 11+ hours of browsing on this, I can get maybe 2-3 hours at best, no more than that.

This is def way too hot for browsing. In fact even when i push my phone as hard as possible i dont get much higher than 60C. Browsing and normal use will be around 50C. And yes SOT is around 5 to 7 hrs on a charge. I usually can go 1.5 to 2 days before charging. I would try factory reset. If it doesnt work see if you can get it replaced.

Had a similar problem with my old Optimus L9 (it was hot all the time, and discharged around 1%/min), Lg exchanged the motherboard without asking. Try to reflash the rom first. If it stays the same, then it's hw issue.

S7 edge overheating

Hi guys,
I just got a new s7 edge. Been used for two weeks now.. it gets quite warm and at time quite hot suring operation like browsing web youtube checking emails.mostly the top right side and camera area. Im not sure if its a defect or not.. it doesnt get to the point where the phone shuts down but its still warm..i know the normal stuff like getting hot during charging or using the phone during charging. This is when the phone is being used and off the charger .
Simple tasks 30 to 40 degrees celsius youtube and web browsing it goes between 40 to 50 degrees. And for games it goes upto 60 degrees celsius..
Is the phone meant to be this warm/]hot ??
Please help..
I tried the normal procedures. Safe mode , format etc . I disabled apps. optimised apps etc.. still quite warm. When the phone is not in use its cool as a cucumber .
Really weird. I can play games with really sick high end graphics and the phone stays quite cold. The only moment when my S7 Edge gets quite hot is when I record slow motion video.
How is Your battery life? 4-6 hours SOT is normal. If You have less then You should check what app uses Your phone.
Also You can try first, formating the phone(data etc) and then flashing new rom with Odin. It will rewrite whole system partition.

SOT is excellent i average between 4.5 to 7 hours..
My app usage is fine..they say certain apps can make it warm.. I am using cpu z ro monitor the temperatures..
Not sure whether i should return this phone and get another one. Seems there are people with overheating s7 edges..
Well I guess if it doesn't bother You then You can keep the device..
It's a problem with a lot of the samsung phones I've previously had (S3,S4,S5,S6,and now S7 edge) on the bright side, it keeps me really toasty during the winter weather.
This is the first Samsung phone I've ever owned that doesn't get warm. Its the exynos version. I would be worried if yours is getting very hot for no reason.
It gets warm while i start using apps.. like browsing the web pn google chrome and listening to music on google music . Goes up to 40 to 50 degrees celsius..
On the other hand watchinf a video on vlc media player the phones nice n cool..

CPU can get to 80C and that's still in range for normal work, so unless it gets choppy or shuts down - don't worry. see what apps are the most battery consuming ones

LG G6 heating up

I see the camera lens gets heated up after taking 5 to 6 snaps continuously. Also after using google maps & downloading some apps from play store, i see back side of the phone gets heated (not very extensive CPU operation).
Did anyone face similar issues?
Under heavy use this phone has to be the "coolest" running phone I've had in a long time. Even charging it gets warm, but not hot.
The phone getting warmer is normal with use, the camera is mostly software so it is CPU heavy.
If it's getting "hot" there's an issue. Remove the case if you have one on. See if that makes a difference.

Mine seems to be getting really warm too, after using it for a bit. I installed a temp monitoring app and my battery and you both go between 78-96f. Is that normal for this phone, or is it something that I should get an exchange over?

35C (or 96F) is nothing to worry about. That's actually cool compared to most other phones.

Good to know! It's been a long time since I've even thought about phone temps, let alone notice mine change.
my set hit 50c with light usage.. not sure what happen.
Camera app also use up alot of power
Mine got heated initially for the first 2-3 days, and then it's been absolutely fine after that. I have the Indian Variant in case that helps.

Mine only rose 10F after using the camera for a little while. Went from 78F to 88F. I recorded video, took a ton of photos repeatedly.
Just for comparison, after about 45 mins of gaming it tops out at 96-97F.
My G6 is also heating up. Every time it heats up, I open the Battery Usage and stop "Media", just this one act makes the phone very cold in 2 minutes as if I have not used it for long time. What is this Media? how can I stop it automatically?

Sounds like you have a rogue app. I don't think I've ever seen my media do that.

How to know what this app is? I can't find this kind of app in Battery usage and also in AccuBattery app.
Sent from my LG-H870DS using Tapatalk
If you disabled any apps you need to go back and clear data and force stop them. Also force stop android system. If yiu don't use smart settings clear it's data and force stop as well as myplaces and myplaces engine.
---------- Post added at 04:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:12 AM ----------
Also go to media storage and clear it's data. Then you will need to rescan the media using a media scanning app(not sure if it requires root), if so just reboot. You'll have to reset your ringtones and what not but might help stop it from scanning constantly. How big is your sdcard and how many files are on it?
Heating up and poor battery life
I got a 870ds. I noticed some heating up everytime the screen is on... Whatever app i use or whatever i do. The battery is getting down the same time and i'm struggling to finish à day of normal usage.... Anyone has an idea of what can cause such issues?Thx a lot
when i accidentally click on a 3rd party camera app like Open Camera and don't know it it gets real hot real fast. I don't know why it is. the stock camera never gets that hot even with shooting tons of video at the concert the other night.
mine was getting warm sometimes but found it to be problem with apps/task running in background incorrectly (Greenify was my issue), uninstalled and phone remains cool even under quite heavy use.
Hi Jostian
An how i could find out wich Apps and tasks are running in teh backround incorrectly?
I would say maybe install something like Greenify..
I dont know how much will this affect, but I think using 3G/4G instead of wifi also makes the device get warm / hot faster..
I have no problems at all. Phone stays cool all the time, even when playing games

S7 edge overheats too much that during tethering and charging at the same time

Hey guys , today when i was using mobile hotspot and my battery was low so i connected charger and used tethering while charging , but after some 30 min when i touched my phone again , it was as hot as a grilled chicken and even my hands were hurting when i touched it , i think it was 80 degrees + , but i didnt had the software to check temps , but it was hurting to touch , so i wanted to ask that if its normal and happens to everybody while using mobile hotspot while charging ? Also my phone was so hot , but it didnt shown any warning nor it rebooted or shut itself off , but i immediately turned it off when it was that hot , but i have to say that i never experienced any such extent of hotness before on this phone , even i did browsing , games and huge multitasking , this was the first time it was that hot , so should i not use tethering altogether ? And if its common issue ? Pls guide me. Thanks.
Edit : I never used fast charging or wireless charging
Any hint guys ?
Anyone pls?

Will get you a temperature. Feeling hot to touch could be anything above ~40-50C as proteins cook at ~42C. This is normal range. 80C is pushing it. Find us an actual temperature first.
Any questions, feel free to ask

Thanks for reply bro , however i used tethering now and installed the app you suggested to monitor temps, but to my surprise, i couldnt get it on that level of hotness even using tethering while charging with apps running , but as i said before it was much hot without any apps running with only tethering and charging.
Phone info app said temp was 42 degree when it was ok to my hand , but i can only guess that if my hand is uncomfortable due to hot phone it should be around 70 ~ 80 degrees , but it was damn hot at that time , i dont know why i couldnt get it heat up to same level , i will report back if i got heat issue again , also i request everyone to see if their phone also does this behaviour. Thanks

Hey bro , just got the issue today , but a little less hot than that but it was still much , the weird thing is that when it was that hot , the phone info app showed 85 to 90% cpu usage , but i was doing nothing , no background apps , and all apps on sleep through device mantainence , and i was only using mobile hotspot while charging , now phone was extremely hot and i did a restart and took screenshot which is attached
Now i dont know the reason of this weird behaviour. After restart temps dropped from 49 degree to 45 according to app , before restart it was 49 degree and cpu at 85% to 90% load , after restart cpu showed normal load and temps began to low , when i took ss it was 45 degree, so i guess in real life it could be more than what app was telling because my hands felt like burning when touching phone , so at previous occasion when that happened and i created this thread , temps must be around 55 ~ 65 degree range , thats really strange behaviour though. Any hints from anyone appreciated

Well yeah , but i didnt use tethering before and only started using from some days, so i had no experience before that, but that sudden increased cpu usage is strange, btw thanks for your help though.
