one plus 5 drop test? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Guys, recently I purchased a brand new 1+5.After 4 days of usage I am in love with the handset but suddenly on one fine day, it was slipped from my hand.I was so frightened to pick up the mobile and to see its condition. The major ground impact was on (up-right) corner.when i picked it up and seen it it the corner was weared out and the glass was broken up to front camera lenses. One plus 5 is very sensitive to handle
but the mobile is working perfectly but it's too sensitive to survive a drop test.

Ouch! That's sad! I am always afraid of such incidents and that's why I always get a flip cover.
When I ordered my 1+5 , I also got their flip cover to be safe.

Mine fell from my shorts when sitting and hit the lower left corner, flipped, hit upper right corner. One dent and one scratch. I'm a little disappointed with the built quality

If it hadn't dented your screen would be shattered. That's why phone manufacturers user aluminum for chassis which is soft. Helps absorb impacts and saves screens.

poor quality
i have oneplus 1 i dropped many time and still working fine until today but i think the quality now is going down, i got oneplus 5 q0 day ago today the screen stop working and becomes black but the touch is working fine. i think it is hardware issue

The "I dropped my phone" Thread

So I have had my phone for about 5 days now but yet I have yet to drop it. I was wondering who all here has dropped there phone. Please share your experience. I feel like the screen would snap of the z hindge if you drop it
Whoops, hit submit too early.
I've yet to drop mine, but I have a sturdy hinge so I'm not concerned about that. But I do keep a firm grip so it doesn't fall. I like how heavy it feels but I'm afraid that weight will hurt it if and when it drops.

Had mine for about 45 minutes before I ended up dropping it in a sink full of hot water; dried it out with rice, and it has been flawless so far.
Dropped it twice and it's fine. Not a scratch.

Dropped mine, notified emergency responders and then had to seek therapy for both the phone and myself. I think we're ok now, we're taking it a day at a time.
My 6th day dropped it on mcdonalds pavment =( still great and screen has no scratches

My son knocked mine off the kitchen island. Bounced a few times and landed screen down on the tile. No scratches, dents, scrapes or bruises.

Y do people always have phones over sinks or tubes full of water? If u need to cook or wash dishes use a headset. And using a headset will stop wet hands from touching the phone. I dont even touch my phone if my hands r wet or dirty(i work on cars so car dirt, old, grese is what I mean)
But I havnt dropped mines. I treat it like a grande if I drop it or dont hanlde it right itll blow

This thread needs pics of the scratches and stuff, lol
dropped mine on the sidewalk - it literallly tried to spear itself into the sidewalk on one of the top corners w/most of the impact on the screen half of the phone.
luckily i had just gotten my body glove case cover a few days before - it left a flat spot on the corner of the case but the impact was severe enough i was concerned about damage to the screen or hinges - none found

I think the people that keep advertising sturdy hinges just have lower standards or are in denial lol. Pics or it didn't happen.. It may be slightly STURDIER than other G2 phones... but even the weakest G1 hinge is sturdier than the sturdiest G2 hinge.
I have had mine for a couple of weeks now, and dropped it for the first time a few days ago onto a blacktop parking lot. I have a cast on my right hand from surgery and cant use it all for the time being. So i was getting out of my car and trying to get my keys in my pocket and phone in the correct hand and just dropped it. Instinctively i tried to catch it with my casted hand to no avail. It landed face down. I was able to wipe/scratch off the small black pavement scratches on two corners, but i do have a tiny nick in the coating on the glass that is small but noticeable. Any way to buff that out?
Phone was in the hands of a friend with the charger plugged into the wall, I put my leg down and inadvertently yanked the the cord which sent the phone flying from her hand onto the tile floor. I didn't notice any damage at the time, but as I inspected my phone after reading this thread I noticed a few small gashes in the rubberized coating on the bottom left corner.
Will post a pic later for the bloodthirsty deviants here seeking carnage.
Dropped it twice the same day 2 weeks after I got mines, since I was using an Ipod touch belt holder case at first (Worked good the first day I tried it). Got worried but at both drops I had no problems. I did notice a very tiny scratch on the bottom right corner of the phone (Hardly noticeable).
A third drop was this past Sunday at the Theaters (While Watching a Movie), no problems either.
Today I got my G2 Case so even better protection. And besides I have a 2 year warranty that covers drops/Spills.
Overall the phone is pretty solid when it comes to small drops.

Had it a couple of weeks before I got out of my car and forgot the phone was still in my lap. By the time I did remember, it was too late. Couldn't catch it in time. Now I have nicks on the side, smh. Real deep, ugly marks.
First day I had it, sept. 29, my friend I was showing it to dropped it from about 5 feet straight onto concrete. The top right had a rough scratch, both the front bottom rubberized corners had some damage, and the lower edge under both of the shift keys felt rough. Oh and the battery cover got scratched too. Needless to say I called and complained about my hinge and they sent me a new one free of charge. No pics though sorry
Sent from my G2.
my little cousin dropped my g2 while it was in its nexus one case.. all it left was a little nick on the upper right hand corner of the metal. the worse part for me now is the fact that tmobile screwed up my bill by charging me full price for my 2nd replacement phone plus my old installment of my first g2 instead of canceling the 1st g2 payment plan and putting me on a new one so now they are sending me a new phone (which is good i guess) but i have to send back this phone. do you guys think they will notice? should i tell them?
btw ive had 4 g2's due to random restarts so this is my 4th g2 (not including the new one they have to send) and so my battery cover has some scratches nothing too noticeable though.

I dropped it! :o

After having my A500 for 8 months, I dropped it the other day from about waist high onto this office carpteting (not a very soft landing). I was holding it under my arm while messing with a broken umbrella and let it slip. Quickly checked it to make sure the screen didn't crack.. All was fine.... until....
later that night went to turn it on and immediate "felt" something was wrong. It had landed right on the corner where the power button is. Power button itself is fine, but the plastic kind of buckeled up right next to it, make it hard to press. Then I noticed that the casing doesn't fit tight in that corner anymore. Can't get it to snap in, so now there's a small gap along the upper part where the volume switch is.
Everything still works fine, thank goodness. I think the aluminum corner got bent just a little. I might have to pop the cover off and see how i might fit it back together correctly.
Would like to see some pics if you do gut this thing.

I know this is kind of old, but did you get anywhere? My 3yr old dropped mine, same symptoms: broke part of the plastic around pwr btn, slightly bent aluminum, gap around volume rocker. The volume key keeps falling in... I've taken it apart, and it seems the snap fastener in that corner was sheered... Let me know if you tried any fixes.
my A500 in cheap as* leather chinese ebay case hit the ground just like the OP and luckily the landing point was the reset button not the power. A big chunk of plastic around the USB ports is all gone though..
ACER is known for making fragile devices, however just like the above cat said, "Had it been an ipad, it'd be shattered in a million pieces."
My A500 is in a Belkin case. It dropped from carrying height to a blacktop parking lot. No damage... that was Summer, 2011. Still fine.
Mine had a similar fall as above. It fell out of my bag while getting it out of the car onto the parking lot. The corner doesn't fit together tightly where the power button is. Since it doesn't fit flush in that corner, the rear camera doesn't focus right, but I never use the rear camera. When I dropped it, I thought it was done for, so I'm happy it faired as well as it did
Our Bullmastiff has sat on mine, more than once jumping on the sofa. Google Bullmastiff pic and you'll have an idea...
Mine took a tumble down the basement stairs onto a concrete floor. It didn't survive, but I replaced the digitizer on my own
Ive dropped it a couple of times, but only small distances and it has landed flat on it's back.
Thank goodness it's alright!

I broke mine too.
way back in September 2011, I dropped mine from the waist height, and broke the digitizer. Luckily all was working. Though heart broken, still I kept on working with it. Approached Acer, and they quoted a total replacement cost of $250 .
Started to look for replacements in EBay, but unfortunately the cost was closet to $200
Anyway, I decided not to get it done from ACER. I was just lucky that the damage was in one corner, (mostly in the black border) and few non irritating long cracks across the screen. So I just covered the black border with another Black tape and used the tab in the same condition for next 8 months.
By June 2012 the digitizer cost in ebay dropped to $70. I bought and replaced it myself. Now the Tab is absolutely fit and fine. Now the digitizer costs almost $30 on Ebay. So any one still waiting for a replacement, I would recommend buying one from ebay.
Within a few days of replacement, I bought a TPU cover. This has a very sticky back, and gives you great confidence and convenience in handling the tab. This TPU cover is highly recommended.
Now its 8 more months ever since I replaced the digitizer, and nothing has ever happened it so far.
Though this hardware is 2 years old, but I am still in love with this hardware. I have an additional Samsung tab 2, but nothing to beat ACER.
Glad to read those ACER hardware stories with happy endings. Hope I won't have to write myself that kind of stories.

Wow, I didn't believe the durability of this phone until I dropped it today.

Long story short, I watched the Android Authority videos, the CNET torture test...
But I had to be at Walgreens before 6... and I couldn't find my case...
I am 6'2 pushing 6'3... I dropped my One without a case on it... it flew all over the place... then ended on its face...
There are only minor scratches on the aluminum and one tiny dent... there isn't a single (even microscopic) scratch on the face...
Had I dropped my S3, it would have shattered...
I'm not saying to drop your One... but should you drop it, it will fare better than any phone out there. HTC balanced the phone to the point that unless it is purposely dropped on its face, it will not break...
Keep a case on it... but imagine the horror when I dropped it from my EAR today... a 6' plus fall and just minor dents?
I guess I can put up with the signal issues... Because any other phone would have been dangerous to use because of the shattered glass.
Anyone else have an "I dropped my One and it survived" story?
Didnt the top and bottom speakers fell out? Saw some videos that 2 parts are quite flimsy

I can top that.
I've dropped my One at least three times I can think of.
Once, when on a ladder using 'smart tools' to level my flat-screen TV on the wall, a drop of about 7' in total, bouncing off the ladder step, onto the (natural stone) hearth of my fireplace, and another 1' to the floor.
Once, when hiking in a nearby State Park, the phone bounced out of the holster (must have gotten some shirt tucked into the latch) and onto rocks/rubble/roots, coming to rest screen-down on some pebbles.
Once, while in bed, I 'bobbled' it out of my hand, it bounced off the mattress and onto the hardwood floor.
In all of these drops, thankfully I had both a Seidio 'Surface' case and an SPG/Spigen GLAS.tR screen protector. No discernible damage that I can detect, no scuffs or dings. Speakers are fine, and the camera works as it should - in other words, the optical image stabilization is working fine.
There can be no compensation for the three heart attacks I've suffered, but that's another story.
I was visiting Japan in April this year and had literally only received my One days before as it was delivered the day before I was to go on holiday through EE.
I was visiting a shrine in the Kyoto and walking up a steep hill capturing some video. Just finished recording the video but hands were sweaty and was turning the phone around to put it back in my pocket when it slipped face down and slid down an incline. I'm about 6"1 and my hands were in the air recording the video above my head.
The top of the silver mesh by the front facing camera came slightly away from the plastic and dented the metal and it dented beneath in two places and even took a chunk out of the side of the screen but the screen itself didn't even suffer a a scratch. Of course I was devastated I'd ruined such a beautiful phone but I was shocked by its build quality being so good.
I dropped a One X I had a couple weeks prior and it fell on the bottom edge horizontally causing no damage to the phone at all but completely shattering the screen. On the back of this I was expecting the same or worse from the One but I was totally surprised.
Best phone I've ever owned. Period. It's right to be acclaimed as the best smartphone you can buy right now.
I had one of the worst scares of my life when I dropped my one the first day that I received it.
I was using the stupid plastic bag that cames with the one to protect it from scratches lol. But when I was going to bed it was dark and I holded the one with the plastic bag face down and the one quickly slipped out of the bag
I almost cried when I saw that it didnt had a single scratch probably fell something like 3.5 feet. I was even tempted to ask for a return as I was having very bad battery life and the phone didnt have a single scratch or dent :' )
Yes!
Both times getting out of the truck at the end of the lane to fetch mail. I had it sitting in the arm rest in the door and it fell to the driveway which is coarse tar and chip (crusher run).
Fortunately it was in a Speck Candyshell Grip both times. The first time the case didn't even show a mark! The second time put a few marks on the case. The phone is mint. Both times the phone's final resting place was screen down. Dropping a smart phone is like dropping a cat or a buttered piece of toast. You can wager full retail price replacement on which way it lands!
If you have a carpet on the floor nothing will happen to your phone
But if it fall on cement or asphalt it will break at least the screen
I've been wrestling and phone flew into traffic, no cars hit it, but did bend the lower left corner, crazy ex girlfriend through it through a wall also, landed in living room unscathed .... Both times no cases.

i dropped my HTC One and Camera lost its Focus. camera costs 20-40$ ebay BUTTT there is no company in my country who can dissamble my phone.
HTC One is great but it is too risky to have one!
Conclusion - Put it in the biggest and thickest Case ever and even after that DON'T DROP IT
it is jewelry not phone i will not buy anything like this anymore.
Hail Plastic!
Die Aluminum!
good for you
Unfortunately not everyone is as lucky as OP.
my one is fine thank god but my missus dropped her phone between the cushions on the corner of the couch, result, it hit the base board underneath and dented the side of the phone and the screen now has a single crack right across the screen. Not a great advertisement for a phones durability if it cant survive a six inch drop.
The phone is still perfectly usable and the crack isnt too bad, not too noticeable head on but if viewed from an angle its very visable.

like i said mine is still perfect, i just use a cheapy silicone cover and screen protector.

Let's see the damage!

I just wanted to see if anybody has actually cracked the screen yet, or even really damaged the phone. I watched some drop tests and it looked amazingly durable. How has yours held up (add pictures if possible)?
Cracked mine front and back. The back crack was a fall from a second story window onto concrete. The front crack was from the handset being left on the dashboard in the sun, the heat caused a crack.

Mine fell out of my pocket as i got out of the car and hit the road.. about a 3 ft drop max, and it cracked the back. Either very unlucky or no where near as durable as my old iphone that i drop kicked everywhere without any cracks

Very unlucky from my perspective: dropped mine from about 70cm screen down on a gravel road (good 4-6cm size rocks), just a dent in the screen protector

Dropped mine the other day from chest height to tile floor. Have the "licensed" Roxfit bumper on it, so it was fine.
Dropped mine with no case from about 1.5m, I was reading the phone and trying to reach to go to settings while walking in milan. Phone bounced around on concrete and slid along the ground to the horror of me and my girlfriend. In the end just some scratches to the rubber coating on the edges and some scratches to the screen protectors.
I never dropped my XZ, but at one morning i put it out of the Charging Dock and it was cracked from the upper left through the whole screen. The touchscreen was no longer useable. The Device sometimes made things by itself. For Example turned on Fly Mode. The Battery Life was then very very long, and every morning the Alarm Clock was ringing. There was no chance to turn off the device. Only Reset.
Couple of issues:
- After taking it to the pool couple of months back, there was condensation the next morning on the 2 cameras. Opened all flaps and left it to dry for a day and it was all gone and working fine (this being said I did not put anywhere near water since)
- Internal screen cracked by itself (2 months ago). I know it was not dropped or anything. Had to get it repaired as the touchscreen stopped working around the crack line
- Back got unglued couple of weeks ago. Maybe due to the licensed shop repair?
- Last week, the touchscreen struggle to register touch (had to firmly press the phone for it to work for 20-30s). Next morning the problem was gone.
I'm using dock at office and home (so never flipping the flaps) and I've never dropped the phone. Honestly, not happy with the build of the phone and not looking at buying any other sony phone for some time.

I left my xz on the kitchen counter yesterday, fully functional and uncracked, then I went out for a walk and when I came home in the afternoon I was gonna make a phonecall but couldn't get the screenlock off. I see there is a crack right where the powerbutton is, with three cracks going across the entire screen. The cracks can't be felt so they're on the backside of the screen so to say.
Is this common? The phone is useless now...

Dropped it yet?

Like a lot of people I'm suddenly debating an edge but I'm worried about losing a rim of aluminum or plastic around the screen. I don't do cases and do drop my phone on concrete around twice a year but have never broken anything, am I right in guessing that edge screens lose a lot of durability without a case?
Dropped mine twice, both times onto my Kitchen floor (stone). Not even a scratch, much to my surprise.
Haven't found a case I like yet, and I'm insured, but will eventually get a flip cover I think.
drop it in the toliet 2 times on wooden floor, looks the same as before when i buy it.
That's sweet to hear, thanks!
Dropped my on kitchen floor yesterday thankfully not a mark on it !!
I've had mine for over 2 months, and it's in mint condition. You learn early on that the thing is a bit of a tank, but still manages to be well-manufactured with a premium feel. I've had a few drops thag were hard to look at, but a spray-adhesive screen protector and a flimsy TPU case bought online have protected the phone from any cracks or scratches.
i watched a drop test on youtube of this phone a while back vs an iphone, and although ymmv compared to the video, it did seem like the S6 was pretty tough, it took dropping the phone from around 10feet high before the glass smashed on back or front! I was very impressed.
I want to also highlight how I've gone without a case for the few months I've had this phone, and there isn't one scratch to be seen! Yes it is a fingerprint magnet, but I seriously thought that the back of the phone would look awful pretty quickly, but it's just pristine!
Dropped mine again in the kitchen again no damage thankfully.

Without a good case; this thing is so painful to hands, i mean sharp rear lines. After a long surfing on the hand, it is giving cramp. [emoji51]
And sending an another post. Why?
Because I can..
Yes I dropped mine onto a beer can on the floor which still had some beer in it, this made sure the can did not move. The result of the 3ft fall? the pixels at the impact point are completely knackered, so will need to claim on the insurance when it comes to selling it for the Note 6, as I imagine the phone is probably a write off as it is the screen as well as the glass. Not sure I think much of this Gorilla Glass!
I owned the xperia z and z3 and never managed to crack these once. On the three occasions I dropped my s6e+ it resulted in damage. Why buy an expensive beautiful glass phone to put it in a plastic case?
yep yesterday camera len broken. looks like a right pain to do and looks like camera its self looks damaged too.
