I dropped it! :o - Acer Iconia A500

After having my A500 for 8 months, I dropped it the other day from about waist high onto this office carpteting (not a very soft landing). I was holding it under my arm while messing with a broken umbrella and let it slip. Quickly checked it to make sure the screen didn't crack.. All was fine.... until....
later that night went to turn it on and immediate "felt" something was wrong. It had landed right on the corner where the power button is. Power button itself is fine, but the plastic kind of buckeled up right next to it, make it hard to press. Then I noticed that the casing doesn't fit tight in that corner anymore. Can't get it to snap in, so now there's a small gap along the upper part where the volume switch is.
Everything still works fine, thank goodness. I think the aluminum corner got bent just a little. I might have to pop the cover off and see how i might fit it back together correctly.

Would like to see some pics if you do gut this thing.

Had it been an ipad, it'd be shattered in a million pieces.

I know this is kind of old, but did you get anywhere? My 3yr old dropped mine, same symptoms: broke part of the plastic around pwr btn, slightly bent aluminum, gap around volume rocker. The volume key keeps falling in... I've taken it apart, and it seems the snap fastener in that corner was sheered... Let me know if you tried any fixes.

my A500 in cheap as* leather chinese ebay case hit the ground just like the OP and luckily the landing point was the reset button not the power. A big chunk of plastic around the USB ports is all gone though..
ACER is known for making fragile devices, however just like the above cat said, "Had it been an ipad, it'd be shattered in a million pieces."

My A500 is in a Belkin case. It dropped from carrying height to a blacktop parking lot. No damage... that was Summer, 2011. Still fine.

Mine had a similar fall as above. It fell out of my bag while getting it out of the car onto the parking lot. The corner doesn't fit together tightly where the power button is. Since it doesn't fit flush in that corner, the rear camera doesn't focus right, but I never use the rear camera. When I dropped it, I thought it was done for, so I'm happy it faired as well as it did

Our Bullmastiff has sat on mine, more than once jumping on the sofa. Google Bullmastiff pic and you'll have an idea...

Mine took a tumble down the basement stairs onto a concrete floor. It didn't survive, but I replaced the digitizer on my own

Ive dropped it a couple of times, but only small distances and it has landed flat on it's back.
Thank goodness it's alright!

I broke mine too.
way back in September 2011, I dropped mine from the waist height, and broke the digitizer. Luckily all was working. Though heart broken, still I kept on working with it. Approached Acer, and they quoted a total replacement cost of $250 .
Started to look for replacements in EBay, but unfortunately the cost was closet to $200
Anyway, I decided not to get it done from ACER. I was just lucky that the damage was in one corner, (mostly in the black border) and few non irritating long cracks across the screen. So I just covered the black border with another Black tape and used the tab in the same condition for next 8 months.
By June 2012 the digitizer cost in ebay dropped to $70. I bought and replaced it myself. Now the Tab is absolutely fit and fine. Now the digitizer costs almost $30 on Ebay. So any one still waiting for a replacement, I would recommend buying one from ebay.
Within a few days of replacement, I bought a TPU cover. This has a very sticky back, and gives you great confidence and convenience in handling the tab. This TPU cover is highly recommended.
Now its 8 more months ever since I replaced the digitizer, and nothing has ever happened it so far.
Though this hardware is 2 years old, but I am still in love with this hardware. I have an additional Samsung tab 2, but nothing to beat ACER.

Glad to read those ACER hardware stories with happy endings. Hope I won't have to write myself that kind of stories.

who has Drop it

Hey who has drop there 8125.. i kinda did from a foot off the ground.. It was soooo perfect. Now im mad. I wouldnt consider the scratch big but i like my stuff pretty much perfect. What about u guys?
Dropped mine from the second floor down the stairs. Broke completely and I'm pretty upset now
MAN
I feel sooooo bad.. and i thought i had it bad.. did u get a replacement or another phone?
I will file a case with my insurance company - I doubt that they will cover it, but you never know...
Was chasing the FedEx truck, don't ask why. I had it in the case that came with the 8125 which leaves the corners exposed. It unclipped and dropped on the cement sidewalk, the corner near the volume control is mashed in and two other corners are pretty scraped up the screen is fine because it was inside the case.
Ironically, if that FedEx guy didn't make me chase after him I would've gotten my activecase and anti-glare screen protector.
Thankfully after putting on the activecase not so much of the scratches can be noticed or felt.
i actually dropped mine for the first time today... i was about to sit down and i was putting it back into its case, and it fell (maybe 2 feet)... but the case cushened the blow. good thing
Wow
Man i drop my today UNPROTECTED.. man i cant believe.. it was soo clean and now it is.. Im soo mad also
Several times....
no major malfunctions yet, but lots of chipped paint.
I dropped mine in the street getting out of a car because I had it in my hooded sweater pocket like a big dummy. It sounded like it broke in half or something (found out later it was the stylus ejecting), but nothing really happened to it besides a few corner scratches that aren't noticeable.
Sorry to hear about your drops and losses!
Does the Activecase for the 8125 have a flip cover for the screen?
Yeah the activecase covers both the back and the front so you can slide it out without altering the case. It uses hinges to cling on but I figured if I used the hinges it would loosen the front from the back so I cut off the hinges and used double sided tape to stick it to my phone.
Droped 2 time by my baby. . . she really likes my wizard. but my baby is more important than my wizard hehe.. rather have a lot of scratch on my wizard than a tiny one on my baby girl

I don't use the keyboard much on my 8125, so that part of the case that allows for keyboard use would not influence my decision to purchase or not.
What I'm really after is to know if there is a flip lid that covers the screen, and whether or not it can be opened without disengaging the entire front portion of the case from the front half of the phone.
Thanks again!
Oop
i used the carrying case that came with it but i might stich some cousion stuff where the case leaves the edges exposed
had my 8125 for about 2 weeks then when i was getting out my 66 bronco i forgot i had it in my lap and it took a dive for the pavement luckly no major defects from it just a few chips outa the keyboard side.

man im sorry to hear that.. ugh i hate that i droped my phone but i kinda gotten over it
While closing the door it slipped and landed right on the topleft corner. Result was a crack in the screen topfleft to right bottom.
Of course this wasn't covered by warrenty and it cost me about 150 euros to get it fixed.
So when you drop it, try to drop it so it fall flat on it back
/Cacti
OUCH!
wow that is expenisve.. i tho i dont kno how much that is in US dollers i know that expensive.. i dont even think i could pay for that just to be replaced
Not only did i drop it, but kicked it just after... i freakin' drop-kicked it!
Was walking under a busy Moscow street and had my hands full when I received a call. I tried to answer the call while still walking and in true dork form, fumbled, dropping it as my foot came forward at the same moment and ended up kicking it another few meters.
upper corners were a little scratched, and the 2GB SD fell out, but I picked them both up, wiped it off, inserted the SD back in and it works great.
guess i lucked out!
Dropped mine multiple times. Stock case was useless. The alum case I have from BoxWave is equally useless. Damn thing flies open way too easy. And, my 8125 has therefore taken several spills.
So far, my personal best was when I essentially threw it about 7 or 8 feet from a height of about 3 1/2 feet onto concrete. It "shattered" in that the stylus came out, battery, sim, and all that came out. A couple of more dents and scratches in the case, but the display itself is fine. I do have a screen protector on it, and I quesiton whether or not that's the only reason the screen has been saved.
Other than that, mostly about 1 1/2 feet drops, generally falling out of the aluminum case while getting out of the chair at my office.
Rugged little device, that's for sure..

Dropped my DHD the other day :(

It fell out of my pocket while biking.
Chipped the metal case
Has anyone else dropped their phone (I mean serious drops)?
Fortunately not, my friend did drop his iPhone 4 off a bridge whilst taking a photo. A sharp gust of wind blew it out of his hand.
I was laughing for about 2 days.
Yup, dropped mine a couple of weeks ago. Bit of a chip on the top right corner of the case by the screen and a bit of a scuff on the bottom right corner of the sim cover.
Was dropped from quite a height onto a hard pavement, so I'm pleased it didn't come off a lot worse!
Dropped mine too. I was busy attaching it to the windscreen for use as satnav, and my wife called me to help get our son into his car seat (after all this time she STILL can't do it...) I went to assist, but the phone wasn't securely fixed to the windscreen... and, well, you guessed it.
Gutted.
Mine has dropped twice from 50cm ~1.5ft. Bad positioning on the nightstand + groggy first time, and a trip of the lady on the charging cable (phone resting on aforementioned nightstand)..
...two slight chips on the top left corner metal. I'm all about the survivor look, being a Fallout fan, I hate those unwieldy black rubber cases, but it pains me to know that those two little chips are there, right out of sight, mocking me for failing to take good care of my DHD.
And that coming from the guy who used a smashed iPhone 2g for the past 2 years. Cracked yet (surprisingly) fully operational screen, more dents in the metal backplate than you can shake a stick at.
Oh well.
Dropped mine from about chest height onto laminated floor while trying to open a door while carrying shopping, unfortunately it did do something to the internal hardware.
Volume keys stopped working, wi-fi would not turn on and fm radio would not turn on. Case had no visible damage so sent back to HTC under waranty, 20 days later got my phone and its working flawlessly.
dropped mine so many times now but i'm lucky and it just hasnt scratched it
can we have some pictures please
this is exactly the reason I made sure I ordered and received my otterbox commuter series case BEFORE I bought my telus desire hd
only had mine for about a week or so but already dropped it a few times, battle wounds... reminds me of my silver back iphone 1 after a few month, just adds character as far as im concerned.
I dropped mine down a flight of steps on to tiles, man that thing can bounce. It only got the smallest scratch on the top edge where i can see silver but it bugs me every time I look at it but it could have been so much worse without my barely there case or if the screen shattered. If only they sold nail polish in a DHD brown to use as repair paint ...

I don't know about the defender but I ordered a commuter at the same time I ordered my phone and love it. I had one for my iPhone 4. I've not dropped this phone yet *touch wood* but it's a great case and if nothing else it makes the back more even so the camera is less likely to get scratched.

Does it give you the confidence that if you drop it from a considerable height it won't get badly damaged, say 2 feet on a wooden floor?
No drops here (yet), but i remember when i got my first phone. It was 12 years ago, and I, Mini Bazooka, was only 12 years old. I was rocking a brand new Panasonic GD-450. Pretty small back then, but it's about the size of a small grizzly.
I dropped it four floors down, and it landed on the concrete floor. The battery fell off. Nothing more.. Ahh, the good ol' days when a phone was a phone, and not a control center for launching nuclear weapons and baking cookies.

Mine got knocked off a table and fell at least 3 feet onto tile floor and nothing happened. I feel a lot more confident holding the phone and I don't have to worry so much about holding a super thin phone and not letting it drop. The case makes it feel perfect in the hand.

The first time you drop it is always the worst! After that it doesn't hurt so much ;-)
Dropped mine the first time whilst in the toilet. Just managed to deflect it from going down the pan! It landed on the floor luckily and has a marked corner now...
I would buy a case but I really don't like them at all.
I think I had my DHD for about a week before I dropped it, and of course straight into asphalt. It got some nasty scratchmarks on the bottom / bottom left corner. I felt parts of my soul (and wallet) die that day ;(
Bought a gel case the day after, just to prevent further damaging of the DHD case.

Screen raised a little bit higher than the bezel near the dock connector

I'm close to my 14 days return period at bb and suddenly I noticed that the glass screen on my Iconia is separating a bit noticeable enough for my fingers to feel it when I touch that section. It is the area at the docking connector side, the screen is raised a bit higher than the side metal bezel. When I pushed it down hard it flushed back in but raised again after some time. I never noticed it before and I've been really using it daily for more than a week now and only until yesterday I saw this. I feel really bad because I really love my Iconia and was really planning to keep it. I had the same issue with my HTC EVO, but I held on to it because I've read in the EVO forum that others have even worst screen separation and mine wasn't as bad. So I'm wondering if most Iconias have this issue so I don't need to return it anymore. I've checked the display unit at bb and it has same screen lifting around that section near the docking connector.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Same issue here. I noticed it the other day. I have a week left on my 14 day return period. Honestly it is not that big of a problem to me. I cannot push it back down, I just figured it was made that way. I noticed the demo unit at my local best buy was the same way. I do not think it is a deal breaker to me.
Yeah mine is like that too :\
MMm - no trouble here yet. Then again I was a first generation nook owner who never had a button crack, and those were hard to find ;-)
I take mine to and from work every day and use it at least 2 hours a day not counting weekend software development time where it's my test platform, so you could call mine pretty high wear and tear.
So it seems like it is common to have that slight lift on the screen and hopefully will not get worst than it is. I will just keep it and not replace with another one, who knows the replacement might even be worst or have dust like the others were complaining. I've put too much time setting this up and I really love it even with all the criticism it gets from other users.
I feel a slight raise on mine - but far from calling it an issue.
There's some dust particles getting under there now...think Staples would accept a return for that? Still in my 14 days. It's annoying.
Staples told me they would take it back for any reason in 14 days... even if you just decided you didn't like it.

lol. There shouldn't be any question at all....take it back.
I'm not returning mine but this is irritating for sure
I believe it is designed that way, just as there is the gap between the glass and frame on the opposite side (where the microphone is placed in the center).
I for one find the A500 a great piece of hardware, and this doesn't bother me a bit... I actually hadn't noticed until you mentioned it here ;-)

Raised here as well
Looks like an intentional raise to me though. The sides are flush and begin to raise about 1.5 inches in from the side of the tablet toward the center until it reaches it's highest point dead center to the dock port. Then back down by the same amount.
If it is not intentional it sure is a nicely implemented defect.
If I run my finger along the edge of the screen I can feel the glass being raised ever so slightly, fractions of a millimeter, towards the middle, above the dock connector.
Though as I look closer and use a metal ruler I find that it's not the glass that is raised but rather the bezel that is lowered slightly in the middle, above the connector.
All of them I have seen are like that, don't think its a defect at all.
It looks like it is easy for dust to get in past the microsd slot area as you can see the back of the screen through the cracks. I would be careful outside and in dusty areas. I am going to look for a sleeve that covers it or something...it should be sealed better than this.
I haven't had any dust yet, (hopefully never) and my screen is raised. (or the bezel is lowered)
I'm getting that too now. It's definately raised. I checked when the OP first posted this and it was not like this. Now I can press on the glass just above and slightly to the right of the dock connector and the screen goes down flatter. The raised area is not quite centered. I've had this tablet 3 days shy of 1 month.

Don't drop your transformer onto concrete...

I've had my TF101 for three months now, and the more I use it, the more I love it. Tried a few ROM's, got some games, watched some video I'd converted to HD mp4, played some old text based adventures. Spent time bonding.
The relationship hit a bump in the road yesterday. The Transformer fell out of its protective case (I shoulda closed the zip) and landed on the corner closest to the power button. The bezel popped away from the screen a little, there's an ugly dent, and now I can't use the power button. I push, pull & tweak it, but nothing happens, it either doesn't work at all, or locks on.
I've called Asus (in Sydney) and got an RMA number for it... guess I'll wait and see what happens. The warranty clearly states that it doesn't cover accidental damage or misuse.
Already having withdrawals.

yeah sorry about your mishap man....sucks for sure!!!
i ve had my tf101 for about 2 and a half or 3 months as well and just about a week ago i had it pluged in and using it on my lap basically. thre fone rang and when i jumped up i fumbled the tab and it took a fall onto the stone infront of the fireplace. it hit on the tab and dock the corner by headphones jack and the corner by the docks sd card. Its dented and scratched in a few places but i got extremely lucky and even though it fell a good 4 ft and hit with some force it functions as intended still (knock, knock, knock) on wood.
surprised me really, seeing ive heard and seen so many people crack a screen from a 2 ft drop onto surfaces much softer than what mine hit.
i have an OG IPAD that i let the rest of the family abuse now, but when i had it i forgot it on the roof of my blazer one day and took off....At about 45 mph i looked in the rearview and watched as it hit the dirt road and bounced and slide about 30-40foot......OUCH!!!!....And it survived without a scratch the case was scuffed up a bit but that was it....
My Point is....basically these little things can be pretty tough really.
I got mine during the US launch, and had not dropped it ONCE since then ... until last week. Had it under my armpit in the Asus-branded rubbery case while toting a bunch of crap to my car. Forgot that it was under my arm when I opened the car door, and when I reached in the car to put my bag in, it fell from under my arm SMACK onto the driveway. I looked down in horror, tears welling in my eyes, quivering in terror (OK I exaggerate). Picked it up, and the only problem was the back had popped off a bit on one edge. Snapped it back into place, and all was right with the world. I was lucky that it fell flat, rear-side down, instead of on a corner I guess.

After reading the thread title I was about to post a witty comment about not telling me what to do but then I dropped my transformer onto my wood floor. (karma, right?) and then I read the thread. Gosh that really does suck. Mine landed side-of-the-dock down first so my SD card shot out and got lost somewhere under the couch... I really hope they will fix it for you. From my experience Asus is really good with RMA stuff if you can talk with a real asus employee rather than their phone people and explain what happened. I had an amazing motherboard which shorted out after a month of use and they had stopped selling that exact model (sabertooth gx or somethng like that) so, instead, they gave me a better, more high end replacement for it. They also fixed my dock even though I lost my serial number (I had to pay for shipping but it was worth the 30 bucks). Like I said, good luck and I hope they don't charge you for the repairs

****s happened!!!
I've dropped it on concrete from about 4 feet high.
Case took most of the impact but got a little dent.
Beside my cell phone the tf get handle a lot so sooner or later
it get dropped.
If the actual button isn't screwed up, you can probably insert a flat head under the bezel (easier in BACK!) and pry it up a little, and reseat the button (hold it with the button facing the ground) and pop the bezel back. Give or take the beds.
I'm really glad I don't have formica floors, or concrete...I keep mine in a backpack when on the go, just in case lol.

really sorry man.
got mine for a week now
i dont want to drop it
thats why i bought case and screen protector for it.
i love this thing way too much. i dont wanna break it
Dropped mine off the arm of the sofa onto carpet, it was docked and inside its neoprene case at the time. Result = screen cracked into 2 seperate peices
Guess its all down to luck in terms of damage done in accidents like this, mine is still useable but I thought the Gorilla glass would be much tougher.
Would be very interested to hear what happens with the RMA for the OP, I haven't dared contact ASUS uk for fear of the number of digits in the bill.
Had a similar incident with a happy ending

I had the same incident 3 months ago. I dropped the transformer with dock in my office parking lot. It fell flat. When I pushed the power button it would not turn on. As it was an accidental drop I was sure ASUS warranty would not cover it. Still sent it to ASUS and was happy it was repaired under warranty.

Thanks for all the good wishes. I rang the service centre (Dingotech, cool name) and a very sympathetic young lady told me all I need to do to get it RMA'd. I told her what had happened, she didn't think it would be done under warranty. Ahh well. Anyways, I couriered it out to them, and they'll ring me with the quote sometime. NOT looking forward to it. So I'm forced to play with my old Advent Vega, with its cruddy viewing angles and bluetooth dropouts. I knew there was a reason I didn't sell it.
I'll keep you posted.

Yeah, they can hardly be expected to cover it. Your choices are either to buy insurance with accidental damage cover yourself, or just tell yourself that accidents happen, and when they happen it just means it's time for an upgrade.
I heard ASUS charges US$75 for the labor & bezel.
The same happened to my transformer. I dropped it on the corner and ruined the bezel.
However, I was able to hammer it out with a small ball peen hammer after carefully removing the bezel (which was a more difficult task than banging out the bends & dents).
It's very thin and flexible so I was just as easy to fix as it was to break.
After I put the bezel back on the only noticeable damage left were some scuffs on the metal from the fall. I just sanded them down a bit to smooth them out and it's good as new to me.
The entire process took about 15 minutes.
I once had my transformer in my bag (docked) with a steel water bottle. It was raining, and i went to jump over something, slipped, and landed on a pointy edge.
The aluminium water bottle was mangled but my transformer was fine (though i later realised that at full brightness, on a black screen there is pressure damage.)
I suppose it saved my back though.
Only dropped mine on to carpet (given, it was from four feet up), but no damage.
On the other hand, I just finished a screen/digitizer replacement for a friends iPad 2 - he had it under his kids stroller and it fell, only about two feet, on to asphalt when he went to load the stroller in to his car. The drop mangled the corner where it impacted and totalled the screen.
I hold onto mine like it's my child. I will never ever drop this... And now I'll be more careful because I probably jinxed myself.

I dropped my onto concrete from about 6'. It damaged the bezel something fierce, but I have bent it back into shape. It could use some super glue to hold it into place a bit better, but I was pleasantly surprised that it is still 100% functional. My EVO 3D hasn't received nearly this type of abuse and is hardly usable.
I do agree though, don't drop it on pavement.

2 Foot Drop = Catastrophic failure

I was in the office, my Note 5 was on the desk. Was getting up and knocked my phone and it dropped to the office-carpeted floor on its back. Didn't think much, I picked it up and went to do my thing. Came back to my desk, then felt like checking something on the phone, fingerprint unlocked, fine, then I found a tiny 1 cm (0.3 inch) crack on the top left corner of the AMOLED screen. I was like wtf?? I'm using a Spigen hybrid case with tempered glass screen protector... it fell 2 feet from the desk on the carpet floor... and it bloody cracked the screen??
After getting really annoyed at what I saw, thought I start looking for the thing I was after on my phone.... but what's this.... I swiped and I swiped but it's not responding.... touch sense has died on the screen.... wtf???? 2 foot drop??? After a minute of being furious, I had an idea of trying if the stylus still worked... and it still does. So the touch layer has died but the digitiser layer is still working... sigh. After 10 mins of being angry, I just put the phone back to sleep and back to work.
30 mins later I went to check my phone again.... and what did I find? My AMOLED screen slowly bleeds purple blood from the sides (not from the crack itself) and purple spots like bruises all over the screen. Omgwtf??? 2 foot droooop come ooooon! And after a day, you can see what my screen looks like now on the attached picture.
I've never seen anyone having 3 different failures from a phone drop.... felt extremely unlucky. I have treated my Note 5 super carefully, although that was the third drop (never more than 3-foot drop) since I purchased it 4.5 months ago from Dubai. I live in UK, so there's no chance of the components being available here since it was never released in Europe. This is the first time I ever broke a phone.... and from a slight drop as well.
Take extra care of your Note 5... it's very fragile...
That's gutting. I switched last month to the note 5 cos I dropped my Nexus 6 off the office desk onto carpeted floor and the screen cracked. Guess side effect of such great designs
It's amazing how fragile things are now days. I dropped an sd card on the carpet once from waist height. Killed it. Lmao
Must of seen at least 50 phones broken in the reception of my old work. People would accidentally drop em or knock them of the counter as they were about to leave and smashed everytime.
For a device that is meant to be carried everywhere they sure are easy to kill.
Why make them.sturdy when they can make another $1000 by selling them a replacement...

my note 5 fell from 5 feet and nothing happened. it was without screen protector. you have bad luck.
It's unfortunate that this happened. Next time spend the extra cash and get a Otter Box defender. It's not the fact the phone dropped but how it hit once it dropped. My guess is, it dropped directly on the corner.

Yeah, well worth the money for a decent case. I got blind rotten drunk and dropped my s6 on the concrete numerous times without damage to the phone and just a few chunks of plastic gone from the case.

I've dropped my note 5 about five times onto hardwood flooring and never had anything happen more than the SPen going for a wander. My friend was skateboarding with his n9200 and he dropped it, poor device went flying face down on the pavement the same day he decided to remove his glass screen protector becaise it was cracked. Bad luck.
I always get insurance with my phone. Worth the 9 bucks a month. Go to the store, ask for replacement, new one is at my door the next day.
ON a side note, my note 5 flew out of my hand and slapped the corner of my closet and the zagg shield shattered but the rest of the phone is golden.
Another problem with lcd glass
In the upper left corner there is an air bubble inside the lcd glass.
it dropped from 2- 3 feet height with silicon cover on it.
here the pictures
Silicone covers are worthless and make the phone look crap. Better to get a minimal hard case
That's how amoled screens work. If you crack an LCD, everytime you turn it on back again you will see the cracks but the screen will still be backlighted. But, since every single led is individually backlighted in amoled screens, if you turn off the screen and turn it on again there's a 90% of chances that the screen will not turn on again. It will start bleeding purple or green colors and flashing straight lines all over the screen until it finally dies. The screen slowly and painfully agonizes until it's dead. Time to get a new Glass + Screen replacement my friend...

This, they could protect you from scratches but they will never save you from a screen crack. Same goes for the tempered glass.
Probably worth remembering that even though stuff does happen, the Note 5 is basically a "glass" object.
Treat it as such.
My note 5 fell more than 5 times on the street and not on the its back but on the screen, everytime i picked it up i was ready to see a big crack! But never was!! And i don't even use a screen protector, just samsung view cover case, i guess it's a bad luck for u my friend.

Silicone cases dont make anything look like crap unless the color or design on it looks like crap. They actually should give u slightly better shock absorption than a hard plastic case. Otterboxes are unusable to me because of the bulk it adds. I prefer slimmer cases and mainly silicone or rubbery. U just were having bad luck.

Sady it will be slowly and painfully agonizing for the owner too :crying:
Jokes aside,
The bigger the size of the screen, the easier the glass can resonate-flex when hitting the ground and knock-bend in the AMOLED, without cracking the glass outside. Interesting that the tempered glass protector didn't save it.
Freak accident, indeed
I would buy a screen from ebay, they're 200 bucks, and I'd find a mobile service place who fixes S6 screens in your area and ask them if they could do the swap.

Well, don't ask me how but my Note 4 screen stopped working when I took it out of my pocket like a year ago. I've sent it for repair and the guy told me that the screen was all shattered by the inside but the glass was brand new. Also they werent signs of bending or a certain sharp point that caused the screen failure. I still have the photo of the old screen. As you can see the glass was fine, but the screen was broken from inside (look at the left edge). Even there's dirt inside the screen!
That sucks for sure, hopefully you can get it fixed without too much trouble.
However since it seems you have the dropsies (3 drops in 4.5 months is a lot) I would do as the others suggest and get a rock solid case for it to prevent future issues.
I've had mine over 6mos and haven't dropped it once. Fingers crossed that trend continues lol
