No. Its being looked into, but I wouldn't count on it. The bootloader will positively never be unlockable either.

I hate being that guy, but this has been asked and answered so many times.

The Moto G5 Plus Amazon Edition is rootable via initroot so long as you have not updated the firmware. This was found through a search on the forums. Here is the thread for the research and scripts for initroot: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3639316

While it may include the G5 Plus it is posted under the G4 Play subforum as such it doesn't show up if one searches only the Moto G5 Plus questions & Answers subforum. (edit to add: and wouldn't have shown up until your post today on that thread in the G4 subforum.) And the update to include the amazon prime ads G5 Plus version was added just four days ago.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/search/thread/3639316?query=g5%20plus
And if one isn't careful they can have issues with their G5 Plus: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4-play/development/root-autoinitroot-motorola-bootloader-t3639316/post73312342#post73312342

No kernels? roms?

Hi! maybe this is a "young" phone. But i come from a Galaxy Note 3 and the community was superb.
Here we barely have threads.
The Droid Turbo 2 hasn't been rooted therefore there's no kernels or roms. The X-force is rootable but no devs have picked up working on it.

We should start a bounty for buying a device for one developer that commits to the device. Just saying.
I would try to learn a thing or two about creating roms and that. I develop apps, but i suppose that is quite different.
What is the point of creating ROMs or Kernels when there is no way to use them? Figure out how to unlock the phone first, and stop putting the cart before the horse.

The non rooted phone is the Verizone version. But there's not a dedicated forum to the Moto X force (kinzie).
It's rooted, nothing more unless I missed something. Hard to use a custom kernel or ROM if all you have is root, so my point remains accurate.

The X-force has an unlocked bootloader and root, it just needs someone to start developing for it. There's already an unofficial CM rom build thread going for it.
This forum really should break the Droid Turbo 2 and X-Force into different sub forums to stop confusion. They have the LG G2 broken down by the carrier, I don't see what the issue is with doing something similar for this model.

Yeah, well people complained about that in the Quark forum for MONTHS. Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx and Moto Turbo The Verizon Droid Turbo was locked down and those owners were jealous of all the dev work going on with the unlocked bootloader version. Just like here. We had TWRP, official CM (with improved Ambient Display with IR sensors response), Mokee ROM, Nexus Experience ROM.
They finally got the fourms split in September 2015, and guess what? Droid Turbo bootloader unlocked via Sunshine November 2015. Now, they all have to go over to the Moto Maxx forum for their dev fix. More Droid Turbo owners posting in the Moto Maxx forum than Moto Maxx owners. Yeah, the kernels and ROMs work on all Quarks.
I don't think jealously is a problem, it just confuses people.

I think most devs correctly identify which device their recovery/ROM/kernel works with in the op post. If people don't even read post #1 of a thread, their own fault.
Even just casually glancing through this forum, people are identifying which Kinzie they have, Moto X Force or Droid Turbo 2. I don't see an issue.
In the Quark forum it was problematic when people insisted on just saying "Turbo". Uh, WHICH Turbo? The Moto TURBO XT1225 or Droid TURBO XT1254?
With Moto X Force/Droid Turbo 2, you don't have that to worry about.

G4 Play North American version, Dump needed?

My g4 play comes tomorrow from Amazon, so do any developers need a dump from it? I'll be more than happy to provide one as soon as my device arrives.
With this device being so affordable ($99 if you have Amazon prime and let them display ads on the lock screen) and a Play edition when we haven't seen many Play edition phones in quite some time, I suspect there's going to be a huge influx of users in the coming weeks so it might be worth developing for.
I'm using . Jus trying to get sim to work so far. I have the prime ad g4 play

You are not the first one to be fooled nor will be the last.
Moto G4 Play is NOT a Google Play edition phone, despite the misleading name.

So I've noticed. Still have to wait for moto to release versions of Android for it, and the "prime exclusive" edition can't unlock bootloader despite having the same model number as one that can unlock bootloader. I feel really shafted by this phone and I'm trading emails with moto support trying to talk my way into a bootloader unlock code. If it works, I'll post what I said that got them to comply so other users can try their luck.

Android P

Do you guys think Android 9.0 is going to come to the moto g4 plus
Sent from my Moto G4 Plus using Tapatalk
No.
Not officially.
Motorola's policy appears to be one major OS update for its Moto G devices and supporting security updates. We've already had Nougat, and due to the advertising around the G4 Plus, are getting Oreo at some point as a resolution. Thus, we will likely not get Android P, you'd have to rely on custom ROM developers for that.
Pacient for a custom ROM, be really pacient......

We'll probably get every Android version up until "Z" ?
Stop conversation of Android-P,
I think, the OP only wanted to post in development section and that's why he made few unwanted posts in Q&A section.
I would request OP to ask Moderators to close this thread.
Because we all know we are not going to get P (even G4 is not going to get O), so this talk here doesn't mean anything.
If for custom ROMs, At least let Google officially announce P, then we will talk about P.

Oreo g5s plus begin test today!

Are you seriously so dumb?! There are at least 3 or 4 threads about SOAK tests on G5S devices (on G5 Plus forum).
Before you create another idiotic and useless thread, just look up if there is no existing thread.

Easy there boi. No need to freak out. I get it, it's the hot topic but you need to take it down a notch.

Not at all related. I was kind of hoping for the builds to be cross compatible but that's not gonna happen anytime
Chill guys, cool down...
As the stock roms (of all G5 series) are not much different than each other, most of the oreo work is done on G5s and G5s+ so eventually it may take only few coding lines here and there for our device i.e. G5+ and voila!
Its gonna happen very soon I reckon.

When are we getting oreo?

I've been watching some videos and photos of people getting Oreo on their moto G5 plus, yet I haven't seen any stock Oreo roms
What is happening?
And thanks for reading my not so good English
It is a beta testing of the stock ROM. Only a select few people that have enrolled in the Motorola Feedback Network will get it. The global release will happen in a couple of months. You have to wait.

Oh really? Got a verifiable link to that information? If not, don't post about it here...
I didn't think so, because we all know Moto does NOT give specifics about updates... EVER.... they never have and in the official forums they have been very clear that is their policy and they never will give specifics.
We all want it to come out, but making up stuff or spreading unsubstantiated rumors does not help.

As a long time Motorola user I can tell you that all these chat Infos are nonsens.
As @acejavelin said, Motorola never announced anything about update ETA. You will find these " some chat helper said" posts from Falcon over Titan until now and always the answers are useless.
All that these guys are able to do is telling you to do a factory reset. They have no clue when an update arrives, maybe they are told to say something like "within the next weeks" just to calm down the countless users that are asking for it.
These posts are useless even in combination with a screenshot. So don't post rumours that will never be confirmed and don't help anyone.
And don't crosspost these stuff in several threads!

I doubt this would happen, Moto users are not so lucky in the firmware update department!
But if you say so...then "I would give away free sweets riding a royal elephant" like those royal kings.
Coming back to the point..i strongly disagree that moto would give a certain timeline or a date, their culture is different; they believe in uncertainty and chaos.
Moto would make a grand entry with (nectar) Oreo (ahem..32-bit) for their dying devices, like a savior.
Peace out.
Motorola link saying Oreo is available
I found a link saying Oreo is available and I can't post the link because I'm a newbie on this forum. You should be able to find it by searching "MS130856 motorola" on google.
It doesn't seem to be available to my phone. Any idea when the Oreo 8.1 info might have been posted and when it will actually be available on my G5 plus?

Depends on where you come from. Oreo is available in India and Brazil, some users also confirm it's rolled out in Mexico and GB.
Threre are several threads around about it, also some OTA are available also fastboot firmwares.
Just search in this forum and you'll find all informations. For pending regions: Motorola never gave a timeline and most probably never will.
Edit:
Oreo won't make your life better, gives you wealth or makes your love life better. No offense, just kidding....
