Accidental Emergency Call - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Has anyone had issues with accidentally calling the emergency number when cleaning off the fingerprint scanner? It's getting pretty annoying and was wondering if by any possibility, there is some way to add another way of calling the emergency number?

You managed to call the emergency number, just by touching the scanner?
How?

I am having the same issue! I couldn't figure out what was causing it so I googled "LG G6 accidental emergency calls, and I found your comment. I tested your theory of it happening as a result of trying to clean the finger print scanner and I found it to be true! I have had my phone for about a week and a half now, and I have accidentally dialed the police department about 7 times! It is HIGHLY annoying as they will dial back on 911 hang up calls and I am constantly having to explain that I am a moron and don't know how to use my phone! Do you have the US or International version?

Try turning the phone off before cleaning it.
As a former 911 operator, if you accidentally call 911, just stay on the line and let the operator know it was an accidental call instead of hanging up. If you hang up, the operator has to call you back and then they're not available to take an actual emergency call.

The problem is, before today, when I tested MrHaPpy66's theory, I didn't even know I had dialed 911. I had no idea what was causing the miss-dials The phone was in my pocket and I would only know that I had dialed 911 once 911 dialed me back! TODAY, I read MrHaPpy66's account and actually tested the theory by using a cloth to rub the finger print sensor and sure enough, my phone dialed 911. Turning my phone off every time I put it in my pocket kind of defeats the purpose of having a mobile phone, so that's out of the question. Hopefully, LG will come out with an update that fixes this issue.

Wow, I was never notified of any replies to my thread. Thanks for testing out my theory. Briley, I have an international version I guess? It's an Asian variant of the G6. I wonder why LG would've opted for such a sensitive spot to be the emergency call trigger. Should we report to LG so that they may release a fix?

I've been doing that lately as I have already made multiple emergency calls to the police. I would have at least thought LG would've mentioned they had added this feature to the device.

Okay, so I Googled this and found that many other people have this issue and not just with the G6. Many people "pocket dial" 911. Their suggested solution is to install an alternate lock screen app.

I thought that was only a fix for those that have the "emergency call" button on the lockscreen? The emergency call is apparently a fingerprint scanner gesture on the G6 by the looks of it

Okay. Thank you. I didn't know that. I am new to the G6. What are the gestures that can be used?

There aren't any other from what I know. I don't know why the phone dials the emergency number when you clean the scanner with a cloth. I thought someone else might have known :/

I have had the EXACT same issue with my LG G6. Rubbing the finger print scanner with a cloth or even sometimes rubbing it with my finger triggers the phone to dial 911. It has happened when the phone was in my pocket as well. It's quite annoying. I hope they identify whatever is causing this and rectify it in a future code update.

If you triple-press the power button quickly - it dials the emergency number!
I have a feeling this has only started after a previous update.
While triple-clicking automatically dials the Emergency Number, I don't quite think its the answer for why i've been facing this problem.
For me it usually happens just after i turn the phone off and put it down (usually in a hurry). Occasionally happens when i put it in my pocket too.
I know I'm not triple-pressing the button then, (also because i have a case on - making the button more recessed and hard to press).
I feel like there's also some sort of sliding gesture on the fingerprint/power button -- but I can't replicate it.

Call Pickup: Call pickup while phone is in my pocket. How to prevent?

hello xda community
i'm very new to the blackstone and this is my first post here. so please bear with me if i'm asking very basic questions here.
my problem:
i carry my blackstone in my pocket all the time. and many people told me throughout the last days that they called me and that i picked up the call by accident.
since i work at customer sites mostly my phone is muted. so people call me and somehow i pickup the calls while the phone is in my pocket.
i always turn of the screen and i have the automatic lock (password protection) enabled. still when the incoming call screen comes up it looks like it is possible that calls are being picked up.
i know there is the slide which has to be moved to the left in order to pickup calls.
i have tried myself by calling my from my home phone and touching the screen and the buttons at random. and indeed the calls are being picked up. i was not able to find out how this is happening ... but it does.
so is there any setting i can change or any additional piece of software i can install to make sure calls are only answered when i want?
possible a reg key i need to change?
any help is very much appreciated
cheers
This isn't just a problem with the Blackstone; every WM phone I have had does this. I have found that a good locking program handles this quie well. I personally like S2U2 by A_C, but there are many others available. You can look in the apps forum, or check the development & hacking forum from the main menu.
The other thing to check is that you have all your notifcations set properly. I set all of mine to vibrate only. Many of them turn on the screen by default. Unfortunately this won't fix the problem on its' own though.
mwelch16 ... thank you very much for the reply
i will give it a try and see how it works for me.
so that means first of all i will have to slide that iphone type of lock and then take the call by using the regular slider?
is there any other way (without) an additional piece of software to handle this? cause after all there is the build in slider ... but somehow it's not working as it is supposed to. any enhancement to that?
thanks again
Is there a way how to disable the CALL PICKUP button which is on the left? so the first of the four buttons?
I think it's because it getting pressed while my phone is in the pocket.
thanks a lot
I use Pocket Shield - it's not free (free to try though) but it's worked well for me

No, S2U2 will unlock itself for a phone call and then lock the phone again after the call. So no need to slide to unlock and then answer your phone. It has a bunch of different settings, and yes I believe it locks the hard buttons.
thanks folks for the replies
i found all the settings i was looking for in the S2U2 options. so i'm good right now.
thanks again
You're probably answering the call by pressing the "phone" button (the very left of the four buttons on the bottom). You can either use those buttons to answer/hang up, or the on screen slider.
I've used AE Button Plus to disable the 'Answer' and 'End' hardware keys and re-mapped them to turn wifi and bluetooth off and on. This way there is no chance of hanging up on a call by mistake since you need to use the slide to answer on screen.
Similar but opposite problem
I'm having a problem along the same lines. If I get a call when the phone is in my pocket and answer it on my bluetooth headset, when the call ends the phone then rings someone else, usually the same person who is at the top of my contacts list. Not only is this damned annoying for me, it's getting a bit tedious for the person getting the unwanted calls.
Is there any way to get the phone to immediately lock as soon as a call terminates to prevent this happening? I'm assuming that once the call ends and it returns to the default contact/dial pad screen, the merest brush against the screen will be enough to start a new call.
I'm beginning to think I should have stuck with my iPhone

I've the exact same problem, 3/4 of the incoming calls rejected when I get the phone out of my pocket due to End button accidentally pressed.
What did they thought when they implement the slide to answer ????
The purpose of the slide to answer is to avoid such accident, but why the hell did they keep the Answer / End buttons active ????? total non sense to me.
Will check if this AE Button + app can solve this annoying behaviour.
has anyone tried Lockmelite?
It may help - haven't used it myself though.
x 2 for PocketShield. It uses the light sensor in your phone to prevent the touchscreen from activating when the device is inside, say, a pouch, or in your pocket.
I'm using evaluation version 2.6.2.10, which as I understand it, has full functionality, except that every now and then, randomly (and IMO infrequently enough to not be annoying) before unlocking it displays a 10 second message saying that you're using an evaluation version. Note that this *never* happens during an incoming phone call. Good stuff.
Hi,
Try TouchLockPro :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444215
Now it handle light unlock in any cases, that as solved all my issues (pocket, in cas BT,...) and fulfill all my requirements.
BR
Pocket Shield doing perfect job for me
I use AE Buttons Plus to disable the "Answer" & "End" virtual buttons. Then I used iconsoft Phonext to handle all my calling functionalities. When a call comes in, Phonext display a lock screen which you have to slide before it presents you with all the options like answer, decline, silence etc.
This way, I never accidentally pickup a call or dial a number.

Streak while using phone annoyances

When I call my voicemail [using google voice] it wants me to enter my pin.
1. Isn't there a way to program the dialer to pause, then enter the pin automatically?
2. I notice that the phone acts very quirky when on a call. In order to do anything when on a call I have to turn it so that it is in portrait mode, not landscape because it sort of 'sleeps' once I am on a call.
3. Being the phone wants to sleep when I am on a call, I can't seem to find a way to get back to the phone app and hit the RED 'end' button at times ..
Sort of hard to explain but maybe someone can do a better job if you have found the same problem. I love this BIG phone. I wouldn't even object to an extended battery.

Don't know about point 1 but i have just read that when making a phone call it has to be in portrait mode and as you bring it up to your face the proximity sensors will turn off your display to prevent unintentional touches is that what you were on about or have i got it all wrong
I don't understand all the technical stuff but to hold it, it has to be in portrait mode, but even if you have the speaker on and it is on it's back on the table, you can't press the keypad [once the call has begun] unless it is in portrait mode. I would like to turn off 'sleep' while I am on a call .. REALLY annoying.
SUGGESTION: Don't make any prank calls until you know that phone inside and out because sometimes hanging up the phone is close to impossible. Unless it's just me.

AHHHH so its you makeing all the prank calls to me LOL.
It dosen't say anything in the manual on turning off the sleep i will do a google and have a look
sssshhhh ... don't tell .. I have lots more calls to make
But seriously .. I called to check my voice mail and somehow the dialpad went off the screen .. Tried pushing buttons, but there apparently isn't one that will bring it back up .. Mean while I hear the recording saying the same "enter your 4 digit pin over and over." I would if I could find the dial pad again !!! Same if you are leaving a message .. if the screen sleeps, you are fumbling around trying to get it to come back up to click END.
Yes i have had quite some issues with it as a phone, specially when it rings but the screen is still in sleep mode for some reason. So you have to turn it on from sleep then hit the unlock before answering. This is a long process to accept phone calls, also when you answer the phone my ears always seem to hit the screen which triggers the apps menu....
I have had it since launch day and been trying to use it as a primary phone but i don't think thats working out. But as an MID its amazing I love using it, the screen is nice and great using it a a ebook reader.
When I get a phone call my screen comes on, unlocked and ready to answer.
My slight issues are my face is too small to go from the ear piece to the mic LoL

I too am having the same issues as many on here.
A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G is what it is!
I can;t even hear anything out of the earpiece in the phone, although i can if i turn it on speaker...not a happy bunny as now i have to wait for a replacement!
One question tho, which has been driving me insane...
Does anyone know if there is some kind of 'file-explorer' for accessing the conent on the SD card?
The only way i've found so far to even get close to the files is through 'QuickOffice'... Would've thought they'd be a more 'convenient' approach to it...
Any ideas?
Yesterday I purchased a program called 'screeb.' It is supposed to be able to prevent 'sleep' when you are actually still using it among other things like battery saving things .. I haven't tested it yet but maybe others have ??

Yeah, definetly got it at the right ear
Will have a look round for a file explorer then, i just thought it would have came with one...silly me! lol!
If I had the phone on speaker and put it to my ear it would deafen me I think. Speaker is VERY loud. Could it be that you have the TTY feature turned on? [ I think that is what it is called, not even sure what it does.] I just can't understand why it won't work as a phone.
I have been trying to use BT only when using it as a phone. I am very afraid my earrings are going to scratch the screen.
I was trying to decide if maybe I should put the sim from my streak back into my iphone and then move the sim from my HTC Shift into the Streak until I got more used to using it. Especially if I am going to use it a lot for voice. I also use my phone for data more than voice.
ALSO .. wondering what an extended battery would be like .. Make it harder to hold? or give you something to hold on to... Right now my hand has to really stretch to grasp the phone ..
ANYWAY ... enough with all this thinking .. I should have been at work 15 minutes ago and I haven't even gotten in the shower.

I love British expressions ... Lately I notice that people in the USA are using them more and more .. The one that annoys me the most .. BECAUSE IT IS NOT OURS TO USE is the expression "gone missing." Everyone who is missing has "gone missing" and until about 1 or 2 years ago it belonged to YOU ... What I am trying to say is I like when YOU use them, but when WE do it sounds WRONG.

Just got off the phone with Tmobile and they turned on Visual Voice for me. Good. Next on the agenda is when a call ends getting back the dial pad so I can hang up ...

1. You can long press * on dialpad, it will show "p", then enter pin.
It can also be used in the contacts (just type p).
2. no idea...
3. Tried power on key ?
Maybe I throw my hands in the air to fast, but I shut off google voice and went back to tmobile 'visual voicemail.' It is sort of the same but I will miss google's voice to text translation via email SOOOOO MUCH ... It is probably the most entertaining application that I have ever had. I like to forward them to the person who left the voicemail and say "what?????"
It seems funny. But I can't use google voice here ;-(

HD2 in-call lock needed (capacitive screen is too sensitive)

I've been using my HD2 since its release, so i can tell you i've gotten used to all sorts of habits in order to prevent accidental "touches" with either my cheek or my pocket when using a BT headset.
Yet, i still get them. Very often i manually lock the phone during calls, but not always.
I've tried smartlock to lock the phone automatically during calls. It works to some extent, but not always. The phone unlocks twice during call from BT headset, when dialing and when connected. Smartlock will very often fail to lock the phone the second time, locking incoming calls doesn't always work either (i'm guessing it's conflicting with the proximity sensor). Plus since the lock screen during calls is different, a slight rub in the middle of the screen will unlock it (no need to slide anything).
This issue was so bad that i found a way to override the in-call lockscreen with the regular slide-to-unlock lockscreen.
Anyway, after all these months i realized that the only times i completly trust my phone during calls is when i'm holding it in my hand or it's laying on the table while i talk.
I'm posting this to check if any of you found better solutions to this problem than what i mentioned.
Cheers
depending on the rom you are on, try using two fingers to tap the caller id pic, it locks the screen on later roms, then hard key to unlock.(but not end key, cos that still hangs up)

2 incredibly annoying android issues

first issue it's incredibly annoying when I am leaving a message on someone else's voicemail and they call me and I can't find a way to quickly hang up and switch to the other call. surely there is an option I am missing that allows you to hang up the call you're on an answer the other 1 but I end up hanging up on the person calling.
second I can't find a way to hang up the phone if I inadvertently switch from the phone to the home screen. is there a button that always hangs up the phone when you aren't on the phone dialer screen?
Notification, expand the current call one and there would be hang up.

When you get a call when you're already in one you can swipe to answer the incoming call. On the AOKP ROM there is a hangup button in the notification panel. If you're not running that ROM you can always just go back to the phone app then hang up.

HOW DO YOU HANG UP WHEN NOT ON THE DIALER SCREEN???
its like an adventure in frustration to accidently call someone and frantically try to navigate through multiple screens looking for the damn dialer screen so you can hit the red bar

how???? the only options avaliable are for the incoming call "answer/ignore/text"
if i answer..then the other call is on hold and i'm bouncing around through screens again looking to find a way to (a) switch calls..(b) hang up the old one...(c) take the other one off hold.
that is super unwieldy especially when you're like 'hello??? hello??' making sure the other person is still on the line and the proxmity sensor keeps cutting in and out while you're trying to look at the damn phone, listen for the other person..look to see if you've managed to switch over...hit more buttons...listen for the other person..make sure you hung up on the wrong person...and then look for the 'hold' button flag and turn that off.
check accessibility, power button to end calls for accidental calls

Go into settings, accessibility and check "Power button ends call". If you need more than that, you might have to write your own script, app, etc.
Just don't hit your power button when in a call you actually want to be in.
Oh, republicano, you beat me to it.

THANK YOU!!! :good:
going out of my mind on this one. its super embarrassing when you accidently call someone you were about to send a text to and say 'i'm not available' and they're on the line going 'hello? hello?' while i'm trying to figure out how to hang up on them without speaking.
the power button is better than nothing.
the 2 line management is atrocious.
i bet i call someone at least 2-3x a week and get their voicemail and as i'm leaving a message for them..they call back.
then i'm in android-phone-hell trying to do something that *SHOULD* be a no-brainer.
i can't be the only one this happens to all the time. if i'm in a car its even worse (yeah yeah dont use the phone while driving) because i'm about to swerve off the road trying to look down at the phone 15x to switch calls and hang up on the old one.
what usually happens is
A. i answer the other call and leave a 20 minute blank voicemail on the original line which google leaves politely open the whole time i'm on the other call.
B. hang up on the incoming call in my attempt to hang up the call i'm on and have to call the other person back again and hope they pick up. this is DEATH if you're waiting on a callback from a customer service person.
this is horrible design. i know i'm not the only this happens to all the time.

ok, this is a half-ass feature. it 'kind of' works but doing my experiment (on call with someone when new call comes in) the power button does freaking NOTHING. it doesn't try to hang up either call.
it only works if you are on a call and someone else isn't trying to call in.
*sigh*

the 2 line management is atrocious.
i bet i call someone at least 2-3x a week and get their voicemail and as i'm leaving a message for them..they call back.
then i'm in android-phone-hell trying to do something that *SHOULD* be a no-brainer.
i can't be the only one this happens to all the time. if i'm in a car its even worse (yeah yeah dont use the phone while driving) because i'm about to swerve off the road trying to look down at the phone 15x to switch calls and hang up on the old one.
what usually happens is
A. i answer the other call and leave a 20 minute blank voicemail on the original line which google leaves politely open the whole time i'm on the other call.
B. hang up on the incoming call in my attempt to hang up the call i'm on and have to call the other person back again and hope they pick up. this is DEATH if you're waiting on a callback from a customer service person.
this is horrible design. i know i'm not the only this happens to all the time.

This. When on a call and someone is on hold, the end button should end the hold call first, then end the current call on a second press

Maybe it was Cyanogen or just older Android but I could have sworn there was a "Hangup and Answer" option. I used to use this all the time when I was calling someone and their voicemail picked up but they called me right back before I could leave a message, I would just tap that option and it would end the current call and answer the new one.
I agree though, it's weird but thanks for the notification window tip. I totally forgot about that option
I had this kind of problem.. I end up hanging up on both. I'll look again later but I think I know what you mean..

I tried the notification trick.. No love. You can't pull anything down while on a call unless maybe you're talking about a custom ROM.
Seems your phone is frozen when there is an incoming call. All you can do is answer text or ignore.

first issue it's incredibly annoying when I am leaving a message on someone else's voicemail and they call me and I can't find a way to quickly hang up and switch to the other call. surely there is an option I am missing that allows you to hang up the call you're on an answer the other 1 but I end up hanging up on the person calling.
second I can't find a way to hang up the phone if I inadvertently switch from the phone to the home screen. is there a button that always hangs up the phone when you aren't on the phone dialer screen?

The second one is easy... Not sure if its already been answered but I didn't feel like ready the entire thread... Bring down the notification and use 2 fingers to expand it

I'm missing that option. I recently bought a Sony XperiaZ and there was an option to "hang up and answer". I'm sure of it and was really appreciating it. But I didn't like the phone and just bought a Nexus 5. I'm on Cataclysm custom rom but I don't see anything like that to make our lives easier.

Auto Emergency Calls

Hey Guys really need some help here. For some odd reason my phone dials the Emergency Number automatically. Usually happens when I lock it with the power button but also sometimes happens when the phone is locked. It's starting to get really annoying and just a while ago it actually called the emergency call centre and they picked up. It was pretty scary. Could some please help me out? It's an LG V20 H990DS btw.
Thanks!
