OPO upgrade should I get the 3t or the 5 - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I'm currently using my soon to be 4 year old Oneplus One and it's approaching the end of its life span. Random reboots, degraded battery life, overheating etc etc. One of the main features I'm wanting from a new phone is a great camera. Not outstanding, just great. The only two phones I'm considering are the 3T and the Oneplus 5. Based on reviews I've seen, pictures on the OPO 5 look better than the 3T's. Besides that, everything else is about the same. Which phone do you guys recommend?

In my opinion, unless you can get a really great deal on the 3T, go with the 5.

Yeah I was thinking the same. I prefer the design of the 5 rather than the 3T's HTC look. The camera seems a bit improved as well so I guess the extra 60 bucks will be worth it.

I had the OP3 (remember: same main camera as the OP3T) and now I have OP5... believe me, it amazing how much OnePlus has improved their flagship, especially in the camera. Photos are a whole new deal with this phone in comparison with the OP3. I think that the great aperture on the main lens and the zoom on the secondary are the perfect package for great low-light shooting and sharp-clear 2x zoom photos in the other hand. Very very happy and surprised with this camera.
Performance it's also better than the OP3, the Snapdragon 835 really bring the mobile experience to a new level.
The only thing that I'm sad about the OP5 is the jelly scroll effect. It's real and it's noticeable. But, to be honest, by the third week of use you'll forget about it as I did.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be looking forward to taking a lot of pics with the OP5

take the OP5, excellent specs and price-performance ratio.

If you're planning to keep it for the next 4 years then you with the op5. The camera alone isn't worth the price difference. That being said. I do love my op5. The battery might be smaller but it last really long compare to the 3t, I've gotten 7 hr sot a few times with Heavy ish use. But I do much prefer the look of the 3/3t

Take op5 so far

Oneplus 5 will ensure that you get the latest updates for a much longer time. That includes Andoroid O. I have also sent you a message. Do check your inbox.

[Q] Do you regret not waiting and getting the Nexus 6P or 5X

Just taking a poll. Me personally I kind of did at first but now not so much, do wish we had marshmallow already. Oneplus two's build quality might be superior.
I'm selling my OP2 as soon as my Nexus 6P arrives (next week). The OP2 isn't a bad phone at all, but I REALLY miss not having front facing speakers... That has turned out to be a deal-killer for me.
Since 2012, I've had phones with front facing speakers and I thought I would try the OP2 and see if I could live without them, but it seems I can't
I was planning to sell the OPT and buy a 6p but not one person in the world wants to pay more then €300 for it while I paid €450 for it 4 weeks ago. It's definitely not like the OPO, I could have sell it with profit last year. The OPT was a bad decision and it's the f***ing invite that made me buy it. I think my wife won't let me buy the 6p so I'm a little disappointed now.
Technically, in terms of raw performance the Oneplus 2 trumps over the Nexus 6P any day. That full HD display helps a lot in the battery (at least in my experience with the OP2 and 6P). Only factor limiting such potentiality is the damn OXygen OS, which in my experience has yet to gain proper optimization with the hardware, but then custom roms with that are cm based are already quite buttery smooth in user experience. Oneplus 2 has superior camera, and with the latest software update, video recording has been fixed. Overall, in my opinion, some of the advantages of getting the NExus 6p if you are a character with little knowledge in android hacking are faster software updates, front facing speakers, gorgeous AMOLED display (but then again the QHD evidently takes a hit on the battery), larger developer community( I might be wrong, but then OP2 already has a significant amount of devs), and stock android experience. lol
Both Nexus 5x and 6p are more expensive than OPT. So i definitely not regret buying OPT week after release! It was great phone for me since i got it, sure some bugs there and there but overall very satisfied with it. There are better smartphones, but in this price range - OPT is still one of the best.
Since the 64gb version 6p is 270€ ($300) more expensive than the OPT I am not even thinking about it.
I'm very happy with my Oneplus Two. In india, i can buy 2 Oneplus Two for the price of 1 Nexus 6p 64gb. So i definitely don't regret buying Oneplus Two.

This. It's not really a fair comparison as the Oneplus 2 so much cheaper. I would probably buy a 6P if I could justify the additional cost, but for the money I think the Oneplus 2 is great

yes, it is still by default in 1080P 30FPS. Oneplus has yet to release another software update that would inculcate the 60FPS functionality in FHD recording. The camera can shoot with that frames.

That's nice.
It's been confirmed?
Well let me add to this thread that I do regret it as my oneplus two home button went dead yesterday. Pretty disappointing.
No regrets so far. Google went crazy at prices in Europe. For the same space and specs they sell it for twice the price for an OnePlus 2 64GB. Yes, I blame Google for it, because the 6P is ugly as hell. Well, I don't care that much about design, but if I pay twice the price, I'd consider to buy a LG G4 rather than a Nexus 6P.
To make everything simple, Oneplus 2 has potentials of surpassing even the latest flagships of today in terms of software experience. The specifications surpass or at par with the greatest today. Like i've said, only thing limiting the full potentials of this phone is Oxygen OS. If Oneplus would fix the bugs and stuttering of the Oxygen OS, this device would be even faster (technically) than a nexus 6P.
In terms of capturing images, it can go toe to toe even with the note 5, or G4 (which are the best in the smarthphone industry today.). GO check the reviews with the camera that has the Oxygens OS 2.1.1 if you want proof.
Display appreciation is subjective. An AMOLED panel would have high saturation as compared to the true to life colors of an IPS LCD display. QHD is just overkill, and it is a minuscule update from a FHD display. 5 - 6 inches will not give significant changes if upgrade to a QHD.
I'm quite the opposite. Glad I've bought OP2 instead of waiting Nexus 6P.

Glad to have both. The 6P is much nicer, hardware-wise, while the OP2 makes a good beater.
That said, I really hope the OP3 has a QHD AMOLED. A decent screen would take OnePlus to the next level.

Basically this:
Camera is important to me, you can read all about the differences but the 6P is decidedly superior.
Display: brighter, more contrast, accurate colors and of course it's bigger too. I expect some degree of minor burn-in after a year or two but in the meantime this QHD AMOLED is incredible, compared to the washed-out and dimmer FHD display of a OP2.
Fingerprint sensor on the 6P is quick and all the upcoming roms will support it, while OP2's FP sensor only works with OP's closed source rom until Carl Pei gets the ball rolling.
Front facing speakers. Wish OP2 had something even 20% as good.
128 fat gigabytes. Case closed.
In OP2's favor:
I wish Huawei outfitted the 6P with a Sandstone back or skin. Slippery aluminum of the 6P is nearly as bad as glass or glossy plastic
Acceptable bezel. The 6P's bezels are a bit big for my liking, though nowhere near Apple or HTC
dualSIM! Great because I travel a lot
notification slider
My overall preferences are 6P > OP2 > S6 if that helps.
Hope they better the Oxygen OS and would take full advantage of the powerful hardware

[VERSUS] LG G6 or OnePlus 5

Hello everyone, as to the reason why I'm asking in this thread. I'm personally favouring the G6 for unknown reasons. I just wanted some more input.
I cannot decide between the G6 and the Oneplus 5
What would you pick and why?
For me the G6 has unique features like the Waterproofing, the wide angle, the dac, Qhd display
Oneplus has software and power, better sensor(?)
I really want the better camera experience which is why I'm leaning towards the G6 for the wide angle.
At the same time, FCC is bad/average I read here which is sad, while the oneplus front cam is supposedly good but I probably use it only for video calling anyway
In low light, indoor pictures how do the G6 fair in your opinion? Satisfied by indoor pictures of people/pets etc??
Video calling with the front camera? Good bad?
what do you say?
Thank you for your insights!
Oh one more thing, this purchase is going to be a keeper, meaning 2-3 years if possible. What's the better buy?

Better screen on g6 next to no bezzle on g6 them 2 things alone make the g6 better than op5 in my opinion
The only 3 things that op5 have better than LG it's fast updates , stock Android and the os it's faster. The rest the gym smocks op5
G6 24 month warranty! Love the IQ, very happy thus far.

If you are concerned about the front camera on the LG G6, use the rear wide angle camera and easily take selfies! The LG G6 is one of the fastest SD 821 devices out there so compared to the One Plus 5 which use SD 835, You will save fractions of a second when using the faster One Plus 5, nothing major differences in performance! LG G6 is even better than the SD 835 or the Exynos specced Galaxy S8 due to the LG UX 6.0 being smoother than Samsung's software..
Well, this is ironic.
I have a G6 and my friend just got an OP5 so we compared a few things. I have a pretty good idea what the differences are.
Design: Of course this is subjective, depends what you prefer. The OP5 is thinner, but I like the G6 better. That's of course your preference, but once you go bezeless, it's hard to go back.
Battery: I'm actually getting great battery life on the G6, however, the OP5 is just better. The battery size is the same, but the 835 is more power efficient, the screen is 1080p instead of 2k, and Android 7.1 has more battery optimizations than 7.0. As well as less bloat running in the background.
Of course again, that depends on your usage. Speaking of display:
Screen: Both are gorgeous screens, 5.7 2k vs 5.5 1080p (and yes, the G6 is slightly smaller even with the bigger screen). Both are nice, and it's really your choice. The G6 screen is gorgeous, and LCD which is really one of the best. The OP5 screen is a nice dark amoled and has great colour. You won't be disappointed by either screen, it all depends on whether you really want the nicer denser screen, or of 1080p is nice enough, taking I told account battery savings.
Speed: Day to day usage, both phones are great. I really see no stutter or lags on either device, except for the occasional hiccup in an app. But that's the app more than the hardware.
That being said, the little things is where the OP5 flies. Unlocking it is nearly instant. The camera loads ridiculously quickly. And of course games load quicker. If the G6 could be rooted and some bloat deleted, it could probably do a bit better, but stock out of the box, the OP5 flies... unlike the G6.
Camera: I'm not a big photos guy, so I can only give you some simple experience with that. Both rear cameras are very similar quality wise. The OP5 gets the bokkeh effect, and the G6 has the wide lens. Again, kind of comes down to your preference. The front facing camera is better on the OP5. That's no competition. I assume LG could not fit a better camera on the small bezel. That being said, it's not a TERRIBLE camera. As long as you have some good light, you're fine. It's just low light that ruins things (like most cameras anyway)
Regardless, both phones are pretty awesome. They both do very well for day-to-day. They both look very nice as well. Although I'd give the "looks" advantage to the G6, especially since the OP5 looks just like the iphone7, which personally, I really don't like. But it doesn't mean its a bad look or anything, again, very subjective. The power though, goes to the OP5. Again, the G6 isn't bad by any means, but you can really tell which phone is more powerful when putting them side by side.
I tend to edge over to the G6. I feel it's a more no compromises approach. Despite being overall less powerful, it doesn't suffer in day to day, and looks great. The OP5 is definitely more of an enthusiast device, but I would pass on the looks.
So unless there is a specific reason to get one: like rooting, the front camera, the display tech (LCD vs amoled), the processor, etc. You'll be fine with either device.
Take a look at the pricing around you. I got the G6 from a carrier so I paid less up front, but overall the OP5 is a bit cheaper (at least here) so that's a consideration.
Good luck!
Leaning towards the op5
My LG G4 just died with the boot loop that's caused by the soldering problem admitted by LG themselves. Despite my phone still being under warranty, they've refused to fix it due to the phone being rooted. Luckily Amazon gave me a full refund regardless. Not happy with LG at all! I mean rooting is the whole point of owning an Android in the first place.
LG seems to be a better and cheaper phone here (maybe not so much in the battery department) but I'm weary of getting burned again by LG... Plus OP has better support and optimization. The battery life on the original firmware that LG G4 came with was absolutely appalling, 2.5h of screen on time. Smh...
Hope this helps in your decision.
I'm gonna carry on my research for another day or two I think.
I'm starting to regret getting the g6. Stuck on android 7.0 and probably getting only one more update to 8.0. First releases are always bug infested.....we...G6 owners are doomed to use buggy software till rhe end of days.
My prior phone (OP3) wasn't flawless but at least the software was up to date and it was rootable.
I'm waiting for the release of the new pixel and if that won't win me over...im jumping ship to the OP5.

Im actually expecting G6 to receive Project Treble support and 2 more android updates. Keep in mind G6 was released early this year with nougat (7), oem flagships usually support phones for 2 years, thus android 9 is not wishful thinking...pending support from qualcomm on 821 chip, but I'd imagine google will press qualcomm to maintain support as original pixels share same chip.

OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T

Who here prefer buying a OP 5 now and save a few bucks instead of a 5T? And why?
Am I the only one who prefers the 16:9 screen ratio of the OP5?
I bought OP5 on the same day it launched and now am regretting it. Had they released 5T next year or atleast at a higher price tag than OP5 would be fair. Now we OP5 users are desparate to upgrade to OP5T. Atleast the company should've come up with buy back scheme for OP5 users to upgrade to 5T hassle free.
Atleast my OP5 is 5 months old. But what for those who bought it a couple of days or weeks before OP5T release. This is very disappointing by the Team. They ripped off 5 with 5T just like they ripped off 3 with 3T.
Go for oneplus 5T, it's much better deal
Honestly, with not much having changed in regards of CPU, RAM and other performance factors, I'm not feeling the upgrade hype at all, especially since the fingerprint sensor of OP5t is on the back and the camera has not been considerably improved.
So I'm actually preferring my OP5, and think 5.5" is already almost too big for my hands. I hope by the time an actually upgraded Oneplus comes around they stick to 5" or 5.5" rather than a 6" formfactor.
It'd be nice to have a real camera upgrade that actually takes clearer photos like they advertise. The OP5 zoom is more useful than downsampled images.
As far as I'm aware you can't buy the 5 no more. It's discontinued on their site.
For me the 5 is a beast, if I didn't have it then I'd buy the 5T, I believe you'll get slightly less stamina on the 5T Vs the 5 due to the battery not being too dissimilar and the screen being larger and a higher resolution, can't see the paltry increase making up the difference there.
But then again that's just my opinion based on specs and past experience with higher resolution screens.
Maybe I'm going blind lol I can't really tell the difference :silly:
The 5T isn't a good enough upgrade for me to warrant a purchase. I'll just wait for the OnePlus 6.

Same here!
The op5/op5t camera isn't even an upgrade regarding the camera if you come from op3. In fact i think pics are worse
Im taking about rear camera, selfie camera is a bit better.
I looked for a mint condition used OP5 and bought it a week ago for 70% of OP5T price so I don't regret anything
No reason to switch from 5 to 5T
For me there is absolutely no reason to switch from 5 to 5T.
They are apart from the camera (possibly a downgrade) and a slightly larger screen the same phone. (so same same but different)
I'm annoyed that OP is artificially limiting the 5 regarding face unlock. (So it seems that it is currently just a sales point)

Should I buy Oneplus 6T?

I have Huawei P20 Pro now, and OP 6t or 6 is interesting for me I want to find out the Oxygen OS.
But I'll change my phone in fall, to a Pixel 4/4 XL, OP 7T or Note 10.
Camera, software, battery life and teh speakers which is important for me.
Camera is great on p20 pro but Pixel is better in this category, front facing camera is so bad at p20 pro and I like the pixel's more, and OP has ported Gcam. How good is that?
Battery life on this phone is great, and probably the 6T is as good as it, because OP always has good battery life and the 6/6T runs Android Pie which is also better for battery.
Software where is the P20 Pro is bleeding. Emui is the worst I've ever used. I did not use stock android or Oxygen OS. I just saw them on my frieand's rooted phone. I I love the smoothness and the cleanness of the stock android, and the customizations of Oxygen OS. That's why I'm interested in Pixel 4/4xl or OP devices.
Speakers is not too much important but good to have stereo speakers. What is a sad point at OP but Google Pixels has good speakers.
Display is not the best on P20 pro. I used Galaxy Note 8 before and Samsung is the king of the screens. It was sharper, it had better colors. But the screen is just a good point, not necessarily to be better than the Samsung's Amoled display.
I want to try out the OP maybe I'll not like it that much as I expect, but I might help then to chose between Pixel 4/4XL and OP 7T.
So my question is.
Should I chane my P20 pro for this couple of months to a OP 6 or 6t?
Or just wait for Pixel 4/4xl or OP 7t?
Thank you for helping me!
Camera is average, Speaker is average, Battery life is amazing, Software can be good latest patch is a bit meh but older builds are great.
It comes down to how much money you will lose from the P20 and then on the 6T if that's an issue for you. If money is no problem then go for it
Camera is average, but what about ported GCam? Does it help a lot or just a bit better??

Just a bit better... Camera sensors are budget Sony sensors.. So yeah nothing amazing going on here in the camera department if you require it at top of your list look elsewhere.
I came from P20 Pro as well. Go for it. You will not regret it.
Camera is really fine. The gcam mod makes it even better, especially portrait shots. You won't miss the P20 camera after a few days.
There is a stereo speaker mod for oneplus devices so you will not really miss that as well.
Battery is about the same usually. I'm getting even better battery life with the 6T with custom kernel.
Oxygen OS is far better than EMUI so you're gonna love it.
Thank you!
I think I give it a try. I'm interested in OP so it will be good for experience. If I like it and the Pixel will have some issues, I might stay with 6T for a longer time.
I would definitely wait for the OnePlus 7. The 6 and 6T are good options but the cameras not great, and no dual speakers, battery life is great on the 6T,I had the 6 also and honestly prefer the 6 over the 6T because its the fingerprint is better and the software is better optimized on the 6.
The only main advantage you would get from switching to OnePlus from where you are now would be the software. It is much cleaned and much faster than anything else with regular updates especially on the open betas.
If you must,go with the 6T if you don't mind ghe slower in screen fingerprint, but has bigger battery.
I would just wait for the 7 at this stage
Actually I don't want to pay for 7, I will be more expensive than the P20 pro, and my main plan is buy a Pixel 4 or 4 XL, so I'll go for 6T which is near same price with P20 pro, and save money for later to the pixel's.

Upgrade from OnePlus 5T?

I'm considering upgrading to this phone from the OnePlus 5T since it checks off all my boxes. Only thing I'm worried about is the actual performance of the chip. I don't do much with the phone and the most intense thing I do is probably play Real Racing 3. Will this be an issue?
While on this topic, is it actually an upgrade from my 5T? The camera performance is surely better but thanks to the Google Camera, photos are pretty good with the 5T too.
Actually, the Snapdragon 730 performs better in benchmarks than the 835. So it should be at least equal there.
But this phone is heavy compared to 5T, with case it gets bulkier. Gaming performance is good, camera is bad. If you're coming from oneplus series, better buy oneplus again IMO. They are compact devices with better OS and cameras.
Camera is bad... or maybe the guy behind the camera xD It's one of the best in the phone market but yes it's bad compare to a Canon SLR camera !

no, for a normal phone camera is terrible, for now even gcam can`t save it. you dont need to compare to a SLR to see the bad quality.

You seem to have very high standards when it comes to the camera. Imho the phone takes great pictures in good lighting conditions. For low light gcam is the way to go. Yes, it's not as good as the flagships out there but we are talking budget here.
The 9T is an upgrade from the OnePlus 7 - I just came from the 7 to the 9T.
OK, so the 9T isn't quite as fast, but there's barely anything in it - I don't game, but all other apps launch and run great on the 730. The screen is better on the 9T, the cameras are pretty much the same, battery is better. Loss of stereo speakers isn't a massive problem for me as the 9T's speaker is good, and I still use a wired headphone so no dongle is a bonus.
You won't regret buying compared to the 1+5T.

Wait what if they have blurry camera effect like MKBHD's unit lol
i've changed from oneplus 6 to mi9t, i had an amazon warranty refund for oneplus 6, so best of all is that i spent 350€ for 128gb mi9t and amazon refunded 540€ for oneplus 6.
phone itself was mostly an update even if had not spent less than refund, i haven't tried it for long time so something could be untested (like recording audio)
screen: mi 9t>op6
camera: little better for op6 in low light and 4k 60fps videos (but didn't use the, so much, too much space) mostly they seem to be on par (i have to test much more)
battery: mi 9t>op6
fingerprint: mi 9t mostly better, you don't have to "take" the phone or digit pin if it's on a table, just a little slower, but difference is less than half a second
speaker: seems quite louder, quality seems very similar
phone: i expected the thin speaker to be much more position-dependant, but i don't notice so much difference.
performance: i can't notice any difference, and i'm quite sure people with mi 9t pro won't ever notice any difference, cause 730 is already overpowered for screen resolution
honestly i won't listen those talking about the camera, you can't compare it to huawei high ends or samsung, but against op6 camera it's almost even.
