Can't flash with ODIN - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

When I click start on ODIN my phone just reboot.
Any other way to flash? I just want to restore back stock ROM.

were you in download mode

yes in download mode. it's the only thing that can boot. either stuck in samsung logo, or download mode. cannot boot into recovery or android at all.
odin can detect. but once press start in odin, phone will reboot and odin said failed.
now trying with smart switch. hopefully success.

Hey!
To fix this problem,
While phone reboot when flashing " Device Info ", immediately press button to enter in download mod

I'm having the exact same issue. Phone reboots when I try to flash anything with Odin.
Previously I tried installing KingROM but even after flashing a different ROM the phone would say "POWERED BY KINGROM" every time I booted it. Nothing seemed to get rid of it so I tried flashing back to stock with Odin. The phone just reboots immediately on the the "Initialization..." phase when I click "Start" in Odin. Have tried multiple times. Now nothing else works. I can't get into recover or even boot the phone normally it just hangs at the initial screen that says "SAMSUNG Galaxy S8+ POWERED BY KINGROM" . Not sure what to do now...
Thanks,
Carl

Entering download mode is not the issue. The phone just reboots when I try to flash anything while in download mode.

Hey, again.
Please listen to me ! It's work.
When the device reboot after this error : Fail Device Info. Repress immediately Volume- / Bixby / Power to enter a second time in download mode. Normally you enter directly in the mode, and you don't have the Splash Screen ( Samsung Power BY Android )
Now you can flash with Odin, this problem diseapear !
The more important is the rapidity when you click start in Odin and the phone reboot you must immediately re-enter in download mode.
I have found a video who explain what I said :

Haha, i spend few hours to find the solution for my s8

Oh man using smart switch also failed. I am about to follow @Soft-Tech643 method when suddenly ODIN can flash it fine.
Ghost is the machine is the only explanation.

RESULT:
Stays at "waiting on device"
THEN tried to install drivers and now it FREEEZES on "waiting on device"
Wow this is complicated. can anybody PLEASE tell me what i need to do to FIX this and ROOT it??
ALSO i cannot reach USB DEBUGGING because i cannot get past the PHONE.....!.....COMPUTER screen.
please guys i really need help. I've tried everything!
Sooo....you used the PDA button when you odined the file, right? If you used the phone button you probably seriously damaged your phone.
And if you want to try Odining again, just pop the battery out, and then hold the volume down button while plugging your phone into your computer. That should get you in a working download mode...
yess i used PDA. Not only that, but now i cannot get into download mode anymore,\. Whenever i plug it into the usb it just has a grey battery on the screen with the circle progress bar frozen.
So to clarify, you pulled the battery, then with one end of your USB cable plugged into the computer, held down your volume down button, then plugged in the other end of your USB cable to your phone (you should still be holding the volume down button) and after a few seconds you're still not getting into download mode?
Do you happen to have a custom recovery flashed to your phone? You can enter recovery by holding both volume buttons, then hold your power button until you see the boot logo, you can then release the power button. (continue holding both volume buttons until you enter a menu screen with a few options)
Please post your question in the q&a section and more experienced users will help you!

The only other idea I have left is to hold volume up + power button for 6 seconds and see if you can boot into download mode again with the method I mentioned before.
And based off a distant memory of being stuck at the "PHONE ! COMPUTER" screen that was still considered download mode and it connected to Odin just fine.
Otherwise since debugging is disabled adb won't work (to my knowledge) I'm out of ideas, I'd post this in the Q&A section like that guy suggested to see if they can help further.

thanks for the help, but odin doesnt seem to be recognizing the phone on the PHONE ! COMPUTER logo. If you can point me to any links to drivers that i can download and install, i'll try those out too. My last bet would be to buy 3 resistors and try to get it to download mode that way, but thats the LAST thing i'd do.
Also, when i plug it into a usb and do the normal button combo i've been doing before, it just goes to a GREY BATTERY screen and it just freezes there now.
close thread please. i have a another problem which i have put into another thread

Obviously you can't boot the phone, but does the bootloader work? Turn phone off... then hold VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER until you see Samsung logo then let go. If you have stock bootloader there should be an option to factory reset.
I believe the screen you're looking at in your pictures is specifically for receiving firmware, not the boot.
If everything I just said sounds retarded, I apologize. I iz noob.

I am guessing but I don't think he has restarted after the failure. The screenshot he posted is of download mode, which you only need VDown + Power by the way makes it a little easier to get to.

I thought "download mode" and "bootloader" were two difference things... you get download mode by doing VOL DOWN + POWER so the phone can be flashed directly. And you do VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER to start recovery. Am I wrong?

Recovery is VUp + Power. For each one you can hold home and it will work but it isn't necessary. In fact you only need power if it is off. If the phone is rebooting or already powering up you just need to hold VUp or VDown.

We need more info. So when you power the phone on it just goes right to download mode by itself? If you can get into recovery VUp+Power you can do a factory reset. I don't think that will help but it might. If you are stuck in download mode, the phone won't boot up or factory reset doesn't work Odin a stock tar of the version you were on, MDC, MDL or MF9.
All you have to do to get to download mode is press volume down recovery is volume up, no power.

If you can get to either of those you are not bricked. Bricked means your phone does nothing at all, no recovery, download mode and won't boot to a ROM hence the word bricked, your phone is inoperable and is a brick.

Then I tried a Hard reset: removed the battery for 15 sec. reinserted held the Vol UP, Home and power till it vibrated. Then kept holding the vol up and home. I get the same message: Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.

Write protection is normal for our phone. It shouldn't matter but download this version of Odin and try again. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1168421&d=1341114315
Also make sure the MD5 on the tar you have matches to confirm that it isn't corrupt.
If it still doesn't work try installing kies on the computer and see if you can do the recover firmware or whatever it is called.

Grand Prime stuck on Odin Mode when I flashed TWRP

So I rooted my new Samsung galaxy Grand Prime (SM-G530A AT&T Variant) using Kingoroot.apk. Everything worked perfectly, then I used a Kingoroot to Supersu converter and it worked like a charm too. The problem is that I flashed the wrong TWRP recovery using flashify and now its stuck on Odin mode. I already tried plugging it onto my computer, but it doesn't detect it, therefore odin or Samsung Kies won't connect to it. I have tried different cables and installing drivers but no success. Can anyone help me???? I would really appreciate it

So, I have finally managed to find a solution.
what you need to do is , turn off the phone and then , press Power + Home + Volume Down and when the phone
vibrates then immediately press the volume up with power and Home.
after that you will be in a caution screen asking for either to press volume Up to start downloading and volume down to reboot the phone.
Then press volume up button , once you will do this you will again see the odin screen but this time instead of the samsung logo you will see downloading, please dont turn off the target screen will see.
What you need to do now is download odin 3.10.7 from their official website and install it on PC.
After that download twrp
go to twrp official website and search for phone and download the file
No. once download is finished, open odin in pc and select the file in "AP" and plug the phone to PC and click start, it will then complete and your will automatically start.

Having problems with odin and my gs8+ can someone help?

I've been a member for a long time on this forum and never had a problem rooting any of my phones with the instructions and files from here but I can't seem to be able to get my gs8 to pass odin.
I have the sm-g955u snapdragon model and followed every step correctly but when I hit start on the modded odin it just stays on initializing for a minute or so and and get a message saying attempts completed (0/1) and will keep getting the message every time I click start afterwards. Anyone know what could be happening? I've enabled usb debugging as well and tried other odins and different files but nothing seems to work. I'm desperate here and really need some help so any help would be appreciated thanks ?

Root at your own risk. This is a different issue...
Found this:
I'd say just rebooting into download mode itself while connected before hitting start would work too...
Damn didn't work ?, I've been wanting to root this since I got my hands on it but no luck
I think I may have the solution. I've done some research and this might work:
1) Download a stock firmware for your S8 sm-g955u model
2) Boot into download mode by pressing (power + volume down + Bixby button), stop at the first screen when it asks for continuing and reboot by pressing volume down.
3) Quickly boot again into download mode by pressing power + volume down + Bixby. Press continue. It should work good with Odin now.
4) Install firmware with Odin

So download a different stock firmware first and load that into regular odin and do steps above before trying rooted fw with modded odin? I will try this once I get home
Also just noticed I posted this in the gs8 forum and not the gs8+ sorry lol
UPDATE: Still no luck!

[Guide] How to unbrick the J7 SM-J730F [Soft-Brick Solution] [Firmware Flash Guide]

In this guide, I will tell you how to unbrick your SM-J730F, in case it is stuck on the boot logo.
So you managed to screw up your phone, and now it won't boot? Is it stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy J7 - POWERED BY ANDROID" boot logo screen forever? And you can't get to fix it?
This guide is for you.
Note: As always, please follow the steps cautiously so that you don't end up bricking your device even harder. I am not responsible for any damage done to your device. All these guides were tested on my phone and confirmed working.
Requirements:
1. PC
2. USB cable
3. Stock Firmware for the SM-J730F - Download Here (uploaded it to MEGA for you guys since the download speed on other websites are a bit bad);
4. Odin v3.12.7 - Download Here;
Instructions:
1. Download ODIN from the link above to your PC and extract the archive contents to C:\ODIN (create a new folder);
2. Download the stock firmware from the link above and place it in the C:\ODIN folder;
3. Connect the USB cable from your phone to your PC;
4. On your phone, hold down the buttons Volume Down + Power Button to force reboot your phone;
5. When the Samsung logo disappears from the screen, IMMEDIATELY hold down these buttons: Volume Up + Power Button + Home Button until you enter Recovery mode.
6. Once in Recovery Mode, select the option Wipe data/factory reset and press Yes when it asks for confirmation (this is a MANDATORY step);
7. DON'T reboot your phone. WHILE STILL IN RECOVERY MODE, hold down the buttons Volume Down + Power Button + Home Button to enter Download Mode straight from Recovery Mode;
8. Now you should see this screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
9. Press the Volume Up button to enter Download Mode. This screen should pop up:
10. Now, back to your PC. Open ODIN, and make sure that it says Added!! on the left. If it doesn't, re-connect the USB cable. Click on the AP button, select the firmware file that you downloaded, let it check the md5 hash, and after it's done, click on the Start button to begin flashing the new firmware and repairing your phone:
11. You should see the bar on your phone under Downloading begin filling up. This means that your phone is currently being flashed. After this process is done, ODIN should say PASS! at the top left of the window, under its' name and logo.
12. ODIN will reboot your phone automatically. After the reboot, you shouldn't be stuck on the boot logo anymore and your phone will proceed to the usual first time set up that you have to go through every time you do a factory reset.
Thanks for reading! I hope my guide has helped you un-brick your phone. As always, if you have questions or encounter a difficulty while following this guide, just leave a reply and I or other members will try to assist you.
Please do not be immature and have a bad attitude when you reply, I will not help you if you do. This has worked on my SM-J730F, and if something goes wrong, it's your fault. As I already said I am not responsible if you brick your device further. But I will still try to assist you.
I don't recommend that mega site. Download it from sammobile like anytime else and wait aprox. an hour (If you don't have a premium and don't want it)
Thank you. I wasn't know you can go download mode from recovery.
hello,
by holding vol-down-home-power i got a display which is not the download mode
it says :
Factory Mode
Auto Test
Manual Test
Item Test
Test Report
Nonautomatic Report
Debug Test
Clear eMMC
Version
Reboot
what is wrong?
Thank you so much for this guide!
When I woke up this morning, my Samsung J7 2017 (SM-J730F) was plugged in. However, the screen was only showing the white Samsung screen it normally shows when I turn the phone on if it is turned off.
I disconnected the phone from the charger and tried to use the phone. Unfortunately it was stuck on this screen and nothing changed that. Until I used the combination of power button, Vol Down and Home button.
The white screen suddenly disappeared and the phone went all black. It has been black ever since. Nothing changes that.
I tried connecting it back to the charger: nothing. Connect it to the charger of my girlfriend who has the same phone: nothing. Connect it to my laptop: Nothing. Try to hard reboot (power button and Vol Down): Nothing. It seems like my phone it totally dead and I don't know how to check if it really is, and if there's anything I could do to fix it.
Has anyone advice on the things I can do?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards.

1. PC
2. USB cable
3. Stock Firmware for the SM-J730F - Download Here (uploaded it to MEGA for you guys since the download speed on other websites are a bit bad);
4. Odin v3.12.7 - Download Here;
Instructions:
1. Download ODIN from the link above to your PC and extract the archive contents to C:\ODIN (create a new folder);
2. Download the stock firmware from the link above and place it in the C:\ODIN folder;
3. Connect the USB cable from your phone to your PC;
4. On your phone, hold down the buttons Volume Down + Power Button to force reboot your phone;
5. When the Samsung logo disappears from the screen, IMMEDIATELY hold down these buttons: Volume Up + Power Button + Home Button until you enter Recovery mode.
6. Once in Recovery Mode, select the option Wipe data/factory reset and press Yes when it asks for confirmation (this is a MANDATORY step);
7. DON'T reboot your phone. WHILE STILL IN RECOVERY MODE, hold down the buttons Volume Down + Power Button + Home Button to enter Download Mode straight from Recovery Mode;
8. Now you should see this screen:

HI, I have a similar problem, j730f stuck on Samsung logo after trying to root it. i has tried rooting by flashing " ROOT-J730F-U4-Android 9 Pie " this using odin, at first it seemed like it worked, odin said reset, as the tutorial indicated, but since then I'm stuck in a boot loop.
I can access the recovery mode but factory reset wont work, ("Failed to clear BCB message, failed to find /misc partition")
I tried flashing stock firmware using odin but it keeps failing:
on my phone it says: "check fail(bootloader) device:7 binary 6
odin:
<ID:0/010> Odin engine v(ID:3.1401)..

please help I am stuck with no phone.
Thank you!
