Stuck on choice please help. - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hiya folks, I recently bought a galaxy s8 (exynos) however I'm not sure if I regret my decision, and I'd like to make sure I don't switch it for the oneplus and make matters worse.
The s8 is a beautiful phone and all but one thing I like to do is play games, emulators don't run well on exynos and some games are cropped to run in full screen which makes some unplayable (gangster new Orleans) as there may be buttons you can't press to continue.
I believe a lot more games are optimised better on the SD835 and emulators including dolphin seem to be much more playable!
I know there's a few issues with the oneplus such as poorish camera and jellyscreen, but is that it? I can look past the screen and the cameras gonna be much better than the phone I moved from.
Itll just be nice knowing you've got a real snappy phone that has no issues pushing demanding tasks
My s8 cost me £430 (just the phone and usb)
I've been offered £350 (is that worth it)
Please help :highfive:

Gaming is a lot better on the snapdragon. I prefer it by miles to the s8. I'll never buy Samsung again. They're the new Apple, has been like that for a while.

People say the camera is **** but imo I've taken some beautiful shots on it. The op5 is really new and camera improvements will come along. And about the jelly screen I only notice it if I purposely stare at the screen and run my finger up and down trying to notice it ??

I've been trying to sell my s8 but no luck haha! I was never to keen on Samsung but i heard the whole samsung experience really improved! And well I saw this s8 going cheap so I gave it a shot!
Runs perfectly well, buuut some games aren't optimised and some games aren't playable due to the screen ratio, I'm currently stuck on gangster as I can't get past the menu :l

Sounds like a winner to me! The eis is super mechanical but it's also very smooth it looks great! I hope you're right with the camera improvements, apparently people were waiting for some kinda improvement on the 3t model, just never happened

It certainly changed, but it's moving so far from what many would consider the Android experience, they're trying to hard to be Apple it's incredible, Apple could make a change just to see if Samsung would copy it and they probably would.. it's a shame as they used to be completely cutting edge, they just never got away from their bloat and although it's definitely got quicker they've retained their grip of control.
Apparently they're a ball ache to develop for too ? I'm not too sure.

Put it on swappa for a realistic price. I sold my Htc 10 for £210 not the most money I could have got but it paid for half my Oneplus so I'm happy with that.
Or you could see where the s8 road takes you, who knows?it definitely has some plus points.
If you just want to buy the Oneplus, get a credit set up on PayPal, £1000 buy the phone, 4 month interest free credit, so that's £120pm for four months.
That's like a night out per month

Upgrading from Captivate to Note or GS3? Help please..my requirements inside...

Hello!
So I have been using my Captivate for a long time...tweaked and overclocked to its max...just a great phone (except for lame GPS). Of course time passes and you want more. 4" is not enough for me any more (and I am speaking about my phone screen!!! LOL).
So I was set on the GS3 BUT a few things have made me think about the Note.
First , I dont care about silly things like looks..come on now. Or the camera....more megapixels on a a freakin small phone sensor? Some people need to learn about real cameras before commenting.
Anyways, the thing is....the GS3 is great the way it is Internationally with the Quad and nice GPU BUT after seeing the 5.3" Note I was like WOW this is BIG.
I use my phone mainly for watching youtube, streaming MST3K , SouthPark etc.
Also for playing emulators, FPSE , MAME etc.
So the bigger display would , in my opinion, be something I can really use.
So in that regards the high resolution big Note screen is awesome as long as it at least looks as good as the one in my Captivate.
The bad thing about the Note...well, some benchmarks, specifically Nenamark2 , I have seen low scores. I mean my Captivate, I hold (I think I still do) the record of 33.5 for that phone and normally score around 30-32 which is VERY close to what I have seen for the Note so that makes me feel like its not a huge upgrade but maybe those were an older Rom or something.
On the other hand I am sure dual core and specially 1GB Ram should give the phone a very smooth feeling compared to my OCed phone.
Another bad thing about the Note is, I got the impression Dev is not huge for it not overclocking.
So on the GS3 end...well the hardware is faster and better overall but the screen is smaller and there is a change the USA ends up with a dual core as well instead of quad. So right I am like...wait for the USA release or just get the Note and enjoy it now.
Its a tough decision.
Any feedback is appreciated specially if anyone is running emulators, specially the new Mame one that plays .139 roms as I would like to know how afterburner runs on dual core.
Regards
Are talking about ATT Note or the Int. Note? Confused, you said that ur waiting for the US release, I'm assuming your talking about the ATT versions of both phones?
Yes both will be the ATT version.
decision is still yours
well i am using my note for like 4 months now, and i am very happy with it, because of its magnificient screen for browsing and my ebooks. I am a surgical resident and this galaxy note saved me from carrying my laptop to the hospital. Here i am sharing my experience abt the note. Its easy to carry my hybrids in the rounds while taking overs during rounds. capture HD videos and pics related to the clinical findings. sometimes i even take it to the OR during cases when i am not assisting or scrubbed. I have all my books for references on my note. The good thing is being loaded with my work stuff, i have plenty of space to have my entertainment part on it. So right now i would say that i have never used a device like the galaxy note.
As far as S3 is concerned. Its an upcoming device with enhanced processor and a few more sensors. So its also charming.
Now as note prices have fall down, if u want to be on the saving path get a note, if u want to be on the top notch in competition, get an S3 as it will be the king till 2013.
I got my Note about 3 months ago and I really will not use anything smaller than the Note.
Before I got this I was tossing a coin between GS2 and Note. I mean literally
The coin landed for the GS2 and I got the Note hehe
I just couldn't resist this phablet.
In comparison to other Android phones I cant say much on that as this is my first ever Android phone and everything on it is great. From watching movies to browsing and even just looking at the thing will make you
Sure it is a bit bulky but I really like it that way. Also it depends on how much you call on it. I spend about 95% doing everything else than calling people. So holding it to my ear is a rare thing. It's better for people with big hands.
I guess everything else can be found on review sites.
I have read a lot about the S3 so far and I gotta say it's not that much better than what the Note is right now. Sure it has an updated touchwiz (in the end both are running ICS so no biggie) with better hardware performance and added apps and features but overall I would not give up my Note for an S3.
But given your situation and if I was in the same situation I would struggle to choose between the two. I would most likely lean towards the Note. About a 60-40 ratio towards the Note.
lets face it QUAD CORE !! (what for) nothing uses that much power and yet its a muscle show for companies over each other. HTC did it sammy said (ME 2).
i love my note and by far the description you wrote means your device acts as a multimedia tool not for a normal usage phone, the note matches your requests fully well it has many ROM to speed it up and give you a great battery life (BTW i dunno about battery on SG3) so stick with note, cutsom version some guys say the ICS official has a bug well dunno i'am using it and its fine but you can wait i guess one week everything will cool down now and problems will be fixed.
NOTE advantages:
Screen HD 5.3"
1 GB RAM
2500 mAH
big phone with great images and brightness
8Mp cam
1.4 Dual Core enough for nowa days
that it by far if you try it you'l never regret or even change it XD unless another comes out !
BTW i hate to say so but i think it's not right to upgrade to an SG3 its about almost the same specs nothing serious for a daily use except for Camera and ICS !
happy buying the phone....
Yesterday i sold my sgs2 . It was a great device, but had some hardware problems. I am thinking too ''should i go for white note '' or ''should i wait for sgs3'' one thing for sure if i'll buy note now, i will lose some money for selling it latter after sgs3 official release.
Please give me some advices.
Things i like about note:
1. huge hd screen
2. better res and ppi than on sgs2
3. normal sim card (not micro)
4. same specs as sgs2
Things i hate about note:
1. damn stylus ! - what is it for ? 2012 and we are still using stylus ?
2. stupid look while making a call
3. i am not sure if it is possible to write a text message with one hand
4. mobile phone with big screen in my pocket - much easier to damage a screen!
Things i like about sgs3:
1. even better resolution and ppi. MUCH BRIGHTER SCREN
2. quad core (not sure if i can feel a difference on apps i am using now) but must be significant difference in battery life.
3. nfc, bt4, few more tweaks with camera & sensors
4. wireless charging
Things i hate about sgs3:
1. rounded look (egg shape)
2. not a big improvement in camera or rams
3. micro sim card
4. PRICE

You are wrong in the brightness department of s3!!
note is about 100cd/m2 brighter than the s3 and could be easily said that its one of the brightest amoled screens around.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdnI9s-GD5w have a look here when compared. s3 looks so brighter, might it be just a dimmed settings ?
Just get the Galaxy Note,I have been using it for over 5 months now its one great piece of device,as for SGSIII I would have considered it or the HTC ONE X for that matter only if the GNote did not exist.

Honestly dude.. i would go out and hold a phone that's 4.8in and hold the Note and see which one you'd feel comfy handling 12 hours a day x 2 years.
Boiled down, they're almost the same phone. Quad doesn't necessarily > Dual. Just better if you're a heavy heavy multi-tasker. I multi-task like i'm on crack when i'm on the Note and don't feel any bit of fatigue.
Benchmarks don't mean SH
They're like college degrees. Nice on paper, but the important thing is being able to apply that knowledge in real-life situations.
anyways. i love my note. first week: it's too big (TWSS)
now when i handle an iphone it feels like a little kid's toy in my hand. like someone else said, can't go back to anything smaller.
Although i DO wish i had this on the Note (that the SGS3 has)
-That amazing screen
-That amazing camera (i take over 50 photos a day and that would be my fav feature of all)
-Software features they included (eye tracking, etc)
Still think it's lame how they didn't increase the ram though. I'd never have to close anything if I had 2gb
Also, since there's no LTE in Hawaii.. (yet)... I'd still go with international version. Exynos is king. Snapdragon will probably be what's in the AT&T version. bleh.

I really don't understand it when people say "damn stylus ! - what is it for ? 2012 and we are still using stylus ?". This is very narrow minded.
First of all that is like saying, "pens, pencils? What the hell are they for?" The stylus is used for taking notes, it's excellent for that. It is used for drawing, have a look at some of the threads on here where people post their artwork, some pretty amazing stuff. Fingers just aren't accurate enough to do all that. So, fingers are just used for navigating through the phone and selecting things, the stylus is used for so much more than that.

Size is not a problem with the phone for me.
My reason for wanting a quad was mostly for emulators as some are not super efficient so the more power I can provide the better although that MAME one I mentioned seems to be done for duals.
Yes benchmarks are not the last word but they do give an idea of relative performance.
Well one thing I wanted to have was a Tegra 3 chipset. Not because it is the fastest but because the lame market thing with Tegra game having extra features etc. I hope the trend does not continue.
As for Exynos vs Snapdragon, I thought there was not much different between the ATT and international version but I guess I can always sell it then by the international version or something.
Not sure if there is LTE and I dont really care for it except that with my BS "Unlimited" plan if I had a LTE phone my limit before they slow me down to unusable speeds will be 5GB instead of 3.
Thanks

My concern with the S3 is , how much enhanced is going to be if the USA cripples it to dual core..then it would feel more like a small note since not even the RAM changed.

I am hoping I can have AOKP with it and hopefully some Overclocked kernel. That should make me happy.
As for calling, I dont use my phone to call, always use a headset so no problem there.

Benchmark results aren't relative at all.. that's the problem
Its like the quote goes "you can't rate a goldfish's intelligence based on its ability to climb"
There is a significant difference on exynos / snapdragon. (Stock) I've tried both notes.
Another prime example is AT&T S2 w/ exynos and TMO S2 on snapdragon. The latter is horrible on stock.
I still hate writing on the stylus, since i cant write as fast on it as i do with a reg. Pen and professor talks too fast. I do all my mock up sketches though on it/annotations.

hahah . Labas! Nice to see some native language in here
went to some phone shops today to hold NOTE ... also compared it to nexus (as nexus is the same size as s3) and i easily made my mind. BOUGHT NOTE FROM EBAY TODAY. £359 so that's about $577 , brand new n7000 , factory unlocked - WHITE
s3 in uk going to be part of Olympics (official olimpics phone) so i presume price is gonna stay high for a long time. I'll hold note for some time now , and decide if it is worth to go for s3 latter when it is cheaper.

ah good idea! I will do the same to see how much different the size will be. I wish I could just get the international version but then again, I guess I can always sell it and get the international one.
Are you in Vilnius? I am planning to visit in late June.

No bro. I live in United Kingdom for last 7 yrs. but originally i am not far away from Vilnius.
My advice for you would be : - go for note and if you'll be very disappointed go for s3 in autumn or so. (maybe even NOTE 2 )
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR DECISION
Based on what I use it for I think the big screen will be the choice for sure. I will go by the store today.
Yeah many of my friends are moving to the UK as well so I hope to see them before they leave.

1.- Really, hey if you dont like it you dont HAVE to use it, i love it couse its great to making some postcards out of picture of me and my gf just for fun, also its great for playing drawsomthing, but you dont have to use it.
2.- I dont think how you look should matter in this case you want something useful you are not modelling right?
3.- With ICS you can write with one hand, it has a special one hand handling feature
4.- Sure, but after 6 months no problem with my phone, and i broke 2 other small ones so i gues it depends how you take care of your stuff
Bottom Line, i Love my Note, im not planning on any change unless Note 2 is out there and yet, it has to be a great update, cause this phone has it all
I would say go for the note.
-- Although the ATT version doesn't have the same power as the international version. overclocking to 1704hmz is certainly a plus for the note, and some roms can go higher. If you are going for the Note do the international version.
As apps get more complicated (and they will) more cores will be needed. Currently thats not the case, but it will happen. I remember 20 years ago when people were saying 52mb was all you would even need in a hard drive!
Thats basically what it comes down to. For me its the bigger screen as apps don't need 4 cores at the moment, and im loving the Note. The next note will be quad core so that will be my next purchase...
I'm never going for a smaller phone than the note...

Should I BUY S4 or Wait even more! S4 Owners Advice Needed!

Advice from current S4 Owners Required!
One month before launch of S4 i sold my One X to buy S4 when it comes in market. When it finally came out, it had known issues of
>Screan Smearing/Pink tint
>Over Heating & Battery Drain
>Lags, Lags and Lags as compared to iPhone specially.
So i skipped S4 at launched and for the first i decided to try iPhone in my life, after 10 or so Android Phones!
NOW I WANT TO ASK FROM CURRENT S4 USERS, IF THIS PHONE IS STABLE ENOUGH AND FREE FROM ABOVE ISSUES FOR ME TO BUY IT NOW, OR SHOULD I WAIT S4 WITH GOOGLE AS I HATE TOUCHWIZ AND STOCK MAY BE LITE WEIGHT OR EVEN WAIT FOR NEXUS 5?
I like smoothness of iPhone, almost all softwares like, Viber, Skype, Facebook or more smooth and beautiful on iPhone than any android i ever used, they usually stutter on Android, my problem with iPhone at times is small screen, at times i feel smaller screen is blessing to carry phone around easily in pockets.
Sharing limitations of iPhone was taken care with Dropbox as i can share songs and videos with any phone via dropbox, at times i think of absolute sharing like in any Android Phone?
I have budget now a days to sale my brand new iPhone and add money and try S4 now? but on net too much confusion, thats why i ask users to give me there say.
Thanks in advance in case if you give me piece of your precious time here and give me your thoughts.
Kind Regards!
I have s4 its good in every aspect except the heating problem
If u play any game which requires a good level of ram than it gets heated up like an oven
U cant even put it on your ear after playing games
Rest all is good

Feels like downgrade
I had a Galaxy Note II before S4 I9500, and to be frank, it feels like a downgrade. No amount of tweaking seems to improve the lag, overheats like crazy and battery life, especially when compared to GN II, is much worse. Screen is good, but really, cannot tell the difference with naked eye. The only benefit for me was the size, as GN II's size was starting to get at me.

I don't know if its just me or I'm really a nitpicker. I have an officemate who has a note 2 and I can see the jagged edges of the icons on his screen. I must say the s4 is well worth it for a flagship device. I looked around today with a friend that is looking for his next phone.. we compared my phone to other phones and he's really amazed at my s4. He will get his own s4 next week.
I have the i9505 version.
Personally i didn't notice any overheating. Its same as s3 after 1h playing, just the s3 gets warm on bottom and s4 on top. I have nothing like some said here that phone got so hot that couldn't be touched
I noticed the smearing. Doesn't bother me at all and today was released new update , which is fixing the smearing problem.
LAGS? My s4 stock with all samsung's bloats on, is pretty damn smooth, i just noticed sometimes when closing multiple apps a bit of stutter in animations but nothing major here.
If you are not interested in Note 3 which anyway you will have to wait for, go for the s4. This is my opinion.
I remember when s3 came out with ICS on, was so so laggy and buggy and everything..after updates > jellybean was perfectly smooth.
So i'm sure s4 will get just better and better with every update.
If size isn't an issue, then wait for note 3, it will be a supreme device I feel so.

Well, it means this heating issue is having by majority of people, which means it is genuine issue and its not just playing games, i guess its by doing anything extensive, like chatting hard or surfing etc? So i should try to relax and may be wait how stock S4 pans out? as strangely i am doing with iPhone too, only smaller screen has advantage and disadvantage, at times i feel, both phones do OK, so better stick to iPhone and think about other things in life

My dear, size is not that much of an issue, being a man here, but S4 had to be supreme of them all device as well if you remember, but cartoonish touchwiz is an issue, specially now as touchwiz often connected to lags. Plus with Note my concern is, Gosh we came out of Stylus Era, putting stylus again in phone, causing it to gain weight and size, you can't take notes on screen better then on actual paper i feel.
Yet i hope Sammy may not let you down again here with your expectation with Note 3, as you are saying, next time they will do a better Job!
My own little hope is Stock Android, but again Nexus 4 may be still have over heating less battery issues!

So basically you are saying, Buy it and wait/hopes for updates to fix the problems, like stay on chances, little heating is not that of an issue, but something beyond that is not a pleasant feeling, but as people saying, its uncomfortable at times.
You are breaking news here i guess, that today smearing issue will be rest in peace, though i heard they are solving pink tint issue.
Moral of the story, which is sad, that, some users are having problems more than others, so i am not sure i will fall in which category, as usual!

Its not about hopes, because it will happen and updates will iron out all the issues, they always did it properly for their flagships. It was confirmed that smearing is gone on the newest update, so i guess the rest of the problems will be ironed out soon enough. Its true some has more problems than others, but this happens on all phones, not only samsung ones.
Will see what else is fixed in the new update. Looks like some camera improvements are done also.

I don't paint any rosy picture here, i was very upset last year with the s3 and all the SDS problems and all the rest, but samsung ,,fixed'' it with an update and things got better. It was confirmed by other users that flashed the new ROM that the smearing is gone. I'm not sure about the pink tint as this sound more a hardware problem on AMOLED screens, but if they will fix this somehow...even better. I have very very little pink tint at the bottom on the screen ( barely noticeable ) and this doesn't bother me. About the overheating, i guess i'm one of those which doesn;t have this issue, so for me at the moment everything is ok and i'm happy with my phone, even if this wasn't a planned upgrade, was because one of my s3's was stolen and i got the insurance out of it.

I don't where are you from and what s4 they sell in your country. 9500 or 9505?
I'm talking here about the 9505.
You can keep an eye on this thread >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252855&page=17
Soon users that will flash the new ROM will keep it updated if anything else is fixed, so you can decide.

I am from Pakistan, here we get officially in warranty unsubsidised 9500, some importers have also imported 9505 but thats without warranty!

Anyone else thinking of returning theirs?

I have had my t-mobile note 3 for 2 days now and I have to say its nice, but its not so much nicer than my note 2 that I need to pay 708$ The s pen sensitivity is pretty crappy on the bottom half of the screen and the build quality seems pretty cheap to me. Its constantly popping or creaking as I type or just handle it. Dont get me wrong, its a nice phone.....I was just curious if there were any other note 2 owners out there thinking about taking it back before the 14 days is up.
I paid $300 for my AT&T version, so I'm not as far in the hole as you, but I'm loving this phone
I'm also coming from an HTC One, not a note 2

Maybe you have a defective device? I played with the AT&T's floor model and found the spen extremely responsive. also I didn't get the whole popping/creaking feel to it. If you like it enough try to return it for another, if not then return it for your cash and grab your GN2 and put her back to work
for 300 I think I too would probably keep it hahaha

At over 7bills I can't blame you. I would have to be 110% happy with it to keep it.
My only real concern is the regional lock that is the subject of many posts here at XDA.
I have not experienced any of the problems you mention and it seems silky smooth and fast compared with my Note 2. There are some software glitches that I'm sure will be sorted out soon but the increased performance, better display, 32 GB, wireless ac and increased internal memory means I will be keeping mine.
I will still be keeping my eye on the forthcoming Nexus 5 and HTC One Max but neither are likely to have a microsd slot and a removable battery.
If something better comes along, I'm pretty sure there will be a good second hand value on the Note3 anyway.

Mine is pretty smooth as well, one of my complaints with the note 2 is gallery load time. I have picassa and dropbox synced in gallery and it takes forever to load. I figured the note three would not have this issue because of the difference in specs but it still does, not to the extent of the note 2 but it still has some chop to it. Also whenever I am sending a text and another text is coming in it will have the slightest delay, again way better than the 2 but still present, which also is a bit of a bummer.
I'm considering returning mine before the 14 day window is up, especially if a root solution isn't found soon (AT&T). I think I'll end up waiting for the Nexus to be released and then decide which I'd rather have.

I cant tell any difference on Netflix, however high resolution movies that I have put on there look fantastic. I too torrent just about everything, the Utorrent app and pirate bay browser work quite well on it, just fyi.
I came from a VZ Note 2. I am on T-Mobile now for the Note 3. I just received my second Note 3 today, and the build quality far surpasses the first one I received. No gaps between the bezel and screen, plus the home button isn't super loose. This one was for another family member, but after seeing the discrepancies, I called T-Mo for a replacement for my first Note 3. That one should be here Tuesday. For the price I think Samsung should have some better QC. I hope I get lucky with the replacement or I'm keeping this well built Note 3 I got today, I paid for it...
Note 2 was excellent, but I am bored with it. Pure and simple. I use my phone a ton and it is always with me. If I am going to splurge on one thing, it might as well be my phone.
I got my N3 yesterday and have spent a full day setting it up exactly like my N2 it's replacing. I'm a heavy productivity user and actually buy Note's for all their s/w features. I have 131 apps installed on my device and have about 10 push(ish) syncs going at all times. I'm kind of a power user.
The N3 runs circles around the N2 in every conceivable way. I'll post a full comparison in the N2 vs. N3 thread after I've used the N3 for a few days the way I previously used the N2.
Here's some early observations:
You can use S Voice while the phone's locked. So with the phone sitting on my desk I can have it open the dialer, e-mail, messaging, or contacts by voice so it's ready to use when I pick it up.
Bluetooth audio output is friggin amazing. The N2 was significantly better than my ex-One X but the N3's separation, clarity, and depth played over my high-end(ish) car audio system is so superior as to make it seem as if I was listening to "mono" audio before.
The capacitive buttons working with the stylus is almost worth the price of the upgrade. And the N3 is the first device I've ever used that finally allows you to use voice commands (Google Now, S Voice) while connected via A2DP. I have no idea why it was so hard previously but that and 100% interface control with the stylus is enough for me never to look back at the N2.
The multiple page lock screens are pretty cool too. It's amazing how much you can control and access without having to unlock the phone.
Going from the N3's display back to the N2 makes the latter's look downright cloudy and dingy. Auto brightness on the N3 is significantly brighter than the N2's as is max brightness. Reading the display in bright sun is a joy. It helps that Samsung finally moved away from black and teal for their stock apps.
Battery life is impressive; far better than the N2's and charging speed is remarkable.
The rectangular shape with a flat textured back makes it so much easier to hold; especially in landscape. And the speaker everyone's been *****ing about is plenty loud and even louder than the N2's in certain situations because being bottom (vs. rear) mounted ensures it won't be covered up if you lay it flat or hold it in your left hand vertically or right hand horizontally. The N2 feels a generation behind the N3 physically when you move back to it from the N3. The N3 feels like a serious mobile device where the "designed by nature" ovoid shape of N2 seems a bit tired in comparison. But obviously that' subjective.
There's no discernible lag even with all the crap I have loaded on my N3 where the N2 stuttered occasionally (not its fault; mine).
To each their own but I'm pretty shocked at how much more advanced the N3 is over the N2 in pretty much every area I care about. My Gear arrives Monday so I’ll have even more kit to play with.
As for people like OP, I don't know what to say. I think people have different expectations based on how much they use their device to accomplish. To plays some games, browse, listen to music, and update social it doesn't really matter what high-end device you use because they'll all be competemt. I use my devices hard and can't imagine anything coming close to the N3. And I loved my N2 and said the same thing about it but it's totally eclipsed by the N3.
Came from Sprint Note 2. Um... Not really a big difference. BUT.... I like new gadgets. If I didn't feel as if I had to have the N3 I would have stuck with the note 2. Very expensive phone and accessories make it hard to stomach..I agree.

I ended up selling mine and getting the HTC Butterfly S. Overall I didn't care for touchwiz and it's hardware button layout. I just really wasn't feeling the phone. I'm back using my Nexus 4 until my Butterfly arrives and I still prefer the N4 over my time with the Note 3. I think I will stay clear of all future Samsung devices.
Ehh to each it's own. I'm coming from a note 2 and a iPhone 5s, so I'm literally in love with this thing.

[DISCUSSION] Is Galaxy S8 your next phone?

How many of you guys are planning to switch to S8? Are you gonna wait for Note 8 later this year, or maybe you're planning to switch from Samsung to some other OEM?
I was planning to get S8 in April, but i'm not sure if it's a good choice, and since i'll be using it for next two years, i would like to hear other people' opinions.
Hell No

Nope, if I stay with android I'll be pixel only from now on
No
Yes, if I rob a bank
Not going to buy it instantly...waiting for reviews and prices to drop first...and then if it is really worth it will buy it...the s6 is a good phone but battery is absolutely trash so im in a need to upgrade...if the s8 is not worth it i will be looking other phones..
Google phone for the win.

Lol what's the point of a 4k display on a phone...
Unless you're using it for VR, a 4k display is redundant as hell
No. I hate the curved display and the round corners. It looks like the most gimmicky phone ever to me. I'll stick with my S6 for a while, and I'll keep buying flat display phones for as long as I can, I don't want any of the edge display nonsense.
Well I am pretty content with the S6 for now, and I would probably not buy the S8. The news that it will have an 3.5 mm jack after all, is really good. I use mainly Bluetooth for my personal music listening, but occasionally I am playing some music at a party from my phone and it would be a bummer to not be able to.
However the lack of flat screen variant is a deal-breaker for me. I really dislike the edge screen - I understand that many people enjoy it and prefer it, but for me it serves no practical purpose and detracts from the otherwise excellent panel quality. Also it's not news, but the S8 as the S7 before it will have no IR port. Probably there won't be any phones in the future with IR port, but I still have a use for mine and it doesn't make sense to move from a phone that has it to a phone that doesn't. Otherwise, since the S6 is already pretty powerful and with a nice camera and display, the gains in these categories will not be significant, so really, it makes no sense for me to spend over 700 € for an upgrade.
Definitely not, 2017 A-series phones look dope though.

I agree with u. I use my IR blaster a lot! I do like the edge displays though, and I will be getting the s8+!!!! It looks damn sexy!!!!!

no. I'm tired of waiting for updates for six months.
I think I gonna buy this but if my father buys it ima take his s7 edge
Maybe cause im using S6 right now. But we'll see what S8 be like after the event.
It's over. Android is the poison that you should stay away from
Hi all,
I love this question since it has been one I've been asking myself ever since the Note 7 explosion debacle.
And after giving it a lot of thought I want to share my view with everyone and please be open about what I'm about to share with you.
I've always owned flagship android phones because I love android for its customizability and up until the Samsung Galaxy s6 I always owned flagship HTC's because the build quality and design was far superior of that of Samsung and the hardware difference was always neglectable. Then when Samsung came out with the S6 I switched simply because the HTC flagship contestant got thicker (or not thinner in each case and it was pretty thick compared to the Samsung and Apple phones due to the full metal body) and the hardware specs were just a tick worse than the Samsung GS6's + I wanted the best camera on the market and that was the Samsung GS6 at the time, on top of that, the Samsung Galaxy S6 design was beautiful compared to the previous models.
I made the switch and was happy! But...
Now, still using the phone and goddddddddddd I'm so annoyed by the amount of times that I had to hard reset it, install an "optimized" ROM and the amount of lag I'm experiencing using the Android OS... MEANWHILE my girlfriend, Who I've been with for 5 years and has an iPhone 5s for a bit more than 3 years and ONLY ever owned Apple products, doesn't have ANY problems with her Apple products...
She is still using a 2008 Macbook Pro which works smoother than my HP Spectre X360 which is not more than a year old...
Her Macbook battery and iPhone battery last longer than my Windows laptop and Android Galaxy S6 ... So finally it kicked in that it's not the phone but the operating system that ducks everything up... And frankly while I'm ranting on about anything that's not Apple, my HP Spectre X360 (also flagship model Laptop, top specs) is feeling crappier than my girlfriends 2008 Macbook Pro...
So living with an Apple user for 5 years I finally caved to the convenience of Apple products which don't have the frickin' problems I have with Windows or Android and who's products just work so much better than any flagship that will ever come out for Android or Windows simply because these companies are not able, professional or dedicated enough to make their OS as optimized and smooth as Apple has with their OS + Hardware and the problem is that even if they try, which I'm sure they do, there are too many different devices with different hardware that there'll never be something as optimized as an apple product coming from an android/windows using phone/laptop manufacturer.
Now to answer your question, I will not switch to the Samsung Galaxy S8 simply because I know that within a year, I will again experience lagging, a bad phone battery and I'll never be able to get the great synchronization that Apple has with its products... (Partly also cause I live in China and google services are blocked here).
Instead, I will slowly switch EVERY product I have to an Apple product. Starting with my phone when the iPhone 8 comes out.
(I find the "leaked" Samsung galaxy s8 pics not at all as beautiful as many online claim it to be... if anything the Xiaomi Mix looks nicer than any of the leaked SGS8 pics, which is also another reason why I'm switching to apple, since all of their designs are just so beautiful and I can't make any of my windows or android products look as beautiful as an apple device simply because it causes more errors on the windows or android OS when you install 3rd party software to make your phone look more apple-ish designed)

. Once I have the iPhone 8 I'll wait until I'm either super sick and tired of my HP Spectre x360 or if I have enough money to easily afford the next Macbook pro model once it comes out.
And for my desktop which I built myself... that'll also get replaced eventually... Don't know by what yet, but certainly by something from Apple...
I'm tired of fixing issues on Windows products, and let's all be honest... they are plentiful and appear for no ducking good reason....
Cheers, and if you feel the same way, please let me know! I'd love to see if anyone here finally got to the same realization and feels the same way.

I would stay away from OP5 worst phone they have brought out and overpriced, U11 very nice but still not up to par with Samsung in my opinion. S8 is beautifully designed runs smooth and has the best camera of the lot. Keep in mind I tried the OP5 and Xperia XZP before my move to S8 :good:

Your iPhone 6 had 1 GB of RAM and having 4 GB on a new phone is a concern for you? RAM difference isn't enough to pick one phone over the other. It is the user experience that plays a great role. So here is my take on this:
1) If you want no lag, fluidity, clean user experience, nice camera - pick HTC U11. Has SD Card slot. U11 is the better overall choice (IMO)
2) OnePlus 5 is also a fast phone, should have no lag as well. So 6/8GB, won't matter, but there is no SD Card slot for memory expansion. Keep that in mind.
3) Galaxy s8 may look better, more futuristic and just easier to hold and type on it with one hand. It was important to me that the phone would be narrow enough. Has SD Card slot.
Thank you for your feedback guys..
My worries are:
In the OP5: the camera reviews are not good! The camera is (at least from the YouTube reviews) is very bad and this is one of the important things to me.
About HTC: It can hold more then a year? If so the HTC is very strong fighter .
About s8: from the YouTube reviews the phone after a month or two have lags often( I think it is something that is whell known in Samsung's phones.
And the screen ( that is look amazing!!) is very scaring me because of his delicacy, and the red colors on the screen.
User experience is very very important to me, lack of lags and good camera, it will be grate if there guys here with one of those phones(after the buzz, over a month or two) that can tell how the phone after a while.
Thanks!

had the phone since day one (24 april i think), and yes, it wont be as fast as the htc or oneplus, but it will smoke your iphone 6 so if you are use to that, this phone will impress you with speed and smoothness (coming from a previous oneplus 3 owner), camera is the best, maybe lg g6 rivals it because of that amazing wide angle lens, but besides that its the best in the market, the desing is the best in my opinion cant really judge that tho. but if you buy the s8, be careful, because the screen is very fragile(broke mine in 5 days from a 0.5m drop on the floor)
What about the pinky screen?

You have the pinky screen issue?
" but if you buy the s8, be careful, because the screen is very fragile(broke mine in 5 days from a 0.5m drop on the floor"
You had any screen/back protector? If not which screen protector and back will be good?
In addition, the curvy screen is nice? Or annoying? The "edge" style.
Get the Google Pixel. It has one of the highest rated cameras in a smartphone DxOMark, bloat free software for a smooth user experience, and updates come straight from Google, so you aren't waiting months for Samsung/LG/HTC so push out the latest android updates. if you can wait a few months, the Pixel 2 should be coming out around October.

I believe HTC U11 is the best overall choice for what you are looking for. Their UI is fluid, the software optimized much better, the battery life is good, camera is good - the list goes on. I had U11 and if it would be as narrow as S8, I would have kept it.
Where did you bought the u11?
I saw that the 6 GRAM is available almost only in Asia, the 4 GRAM is enough?
About the google pixel, it is 2016 phone that coast like 2017 phone?
Thanks

I bought HTC U11 on htc.com and 4 GB is enough + you are not going to be using the same phone for over 2-3 years anyway.
Unless you plan to root your phone (not sure if correct term) I do not suggest Galaxy S8/S8+ because of the "always on home button" (even on lock-screen). Major issue with an ocean of requests to disable it. It basically turns your screen on and opens a bunch of apps in your pocket, although the only issue I have is when taking the phone out of my pocket. If you plan on getting a flip-cover, that won't be an issue. I would myself, but for me it's important to just slide my phone into it's holder in my car.
I have my iPhone for almost 2.5 years
Anyway, I like how the s8 look and feel but the lags that he have are very annoying (I saw him today morning in Samsung's shop.
I didn't saw the HTC or oneplus but I think I will order the HTC
Actually, I switch phones every 2-2.5 years plus.
Anyway I think I will take the HUC, I saw to many issues with the S8, I wish the oneplus 5 have better camera.
If you're iPhone user I would suggest going for S8.
All others got almost stock android which may by is 'fluid' but looking soooo 'ugly' and missing a lot of extra settings which are on S8 platform- touchwiz. Camera- very comparable apart s8 got F1.7 what makes it winner for me. You can install Nova launcher to make it buttery smooth- better than my previous IP6 plus. Samsung did very nice job, sms messenger, email, dialer, settings look so elegant and smart.

I would stay away of android if I could. Try to borrow S8 and play for some time. You can deeply regret your decision once.
Most of the S8 bought by IOS users fooled by ads end on the ebay or gumtree.
BTW: I'm S8 user. since April..
And you regret your decision?

People always complain this it the attitude of our century hihi but s8 is really nice phone. I had few tries with Android and I can say S7edge and S8 are winners. All 5.5inch Iphones lags as well but with Android you are not a slave of the operating system. You can change launcher, widget, setup default app, clean cache. Did you know there is a bug with Spotify cache on ios? Cache getting massive and to fix it you have te reinstall app instead of just hit clear data from settings. 2017 and Spotify can not sort it out because Apple is locking access to the specific folders. Lag? Within the phone setup there is a lag but now while daily use it almost gone. BTW this was the most annoying thing bothering me as well. You will love this phone.
not really

It was the best I could buy with Android onboard. However looking forward to see the new Pixel.
Phone with S8's screen and size, running stock Google Android (no bloatware, including also Facebook and Twitter), with no annoying Bixby button and fingerprint placed in less idiotic position, could be the winner for me, even better than iPhone.
Was trying to switch back to IOS just before buying S8, but couldn't move one finance application and its data. This is the reason I'm forced to use android.
To summarize: I'm happy with S8, it's not a perfect, but still regret decision to switch to Android couple years ago.
OK, sound bummer, tell you the trough, the fingerprint button it is a manner of time, but the issue for me is camera and no lagging phone, this is why I so confusing between the S8 and the HTC, my wife have the lg G5 and I hate his OS it is pretty bad so this is why I didn't think about the G6
