question about twrp backup - LG V20 Questions & Answers

So I have a twrp backup and I have been playing with different kernels. Now I want to go back to the kernel in my backup. How can I reflash my old kernel without doing a dirty flash? How can I extract it if possible from my backup?

I believe you restore the boot option under TWRP but I'm not 100% on that if someone else could chime in

Yes. boot restore will not affect rom and it is what holds the kernel.

[Q] Clockwork Backup Question

What parts of my phone does a Clockwork backup actually back up?
I am pretty sure it doesn't back up the Modem, correct?
Does it back up both the Kernel and the ROM?
Thanks!
Another question: Is doing a Clockwork backup the same thing as doing a "Nandroid" backup?
if not, what is the difference and how do you do a Nandroid backup?
Thanks (again)!
If im not mistaken a CWM backup and nandroid backup are the same thing, and it only backs up the ROM not ther kernel or the modem

One reply says it does backup the kernel as long as it is a non-voodoo kernel.
This seems right since the backup directory holds all the files that is from the kernel.
I am quite sure that on my phone CWM backup (in recovery mode at least) backs up literally everything.

CWM not backing up system.img

I wanted to flash a custom ROM and decided to do a nandroid backup first. Every time i did one it did not contain the system.img file which means that the stock ROM wasn't backed up. It only backed up recovery and boot. I have the official CWM from clockwordmod.com.
Please help.
BTW. I know that i can use the stock system image from google, but it's much easier to just recover a nandroid backup.

What version of CWM are you running?

Can i restore backup from another phone?

I've got 2 sets of note 3, and both rooted and flashed with custom rom. I did a backup on one of them for the stock firmware before i flashed the custom rom. Question is, can i use the backup for the stock rom and restore it on the other note 3? Will there be any issues?
Thanks!

Restore just the System partition and the Boot partition. It should work.
Out of curiosity, why not use odin?

Will that unroot the phone and get it back to stock firmware (the backup is stock firmware)
what i was trying to do is to get the phone back to stock as much as possible.
When you said odin, you mean download a stock firmware and use odin to flash it?

Yes, it will restore everything to stock, exactly like the backup.
But, you should use odin. It will restore everything to stock.

Thanks! but can you tell me more? If i have that backup, what advantage does odin has over downloading a stock firmware?

Well, for one, odin will restore EVERYTHING to stock. Including the recovery.
Second, the recovery will probably reject the backup if it checks for MD5, you might have to disable it before restoring.
Third, it is more convenient.

I sadly had to go through that on my old note 2 (super slow connection in my country), well what i found out that to skip md5 check in TWRP, i had to backup my EFS (just to let twrp create its folders and settle up) then i moved the backup from another phone to the folder twrp just created, Restored system and /data with no problems
When the recovery check for MD5, open MD5 file on notepad, clear everything and save it. The recovery will not reject it. Trust me

Need advice on restoring backups

Hello
I recently rooted my LG G2 and installed Blisspop rom but i wish to go back to stock. Would this be possible to revert back to my stock backup or do i have to reinstall the firmware completely ?
Thanks any help is welcome
Any one can help me ?
Before installing a custom ROM, did you use TWRP to create a backup of the stock ROM? If you did, you could try restoring the stock backup from recovery.

i did indeed i backup up via TWRP but im getting confused cause i keep getting told different things like i need to have a different boot loader etc
The only thing i did was flash the ROM i didn't flash any modem or boot loader to my knowledge
Restoring the TWRP backup should leave the bootloader and modem alone.

You may have to wipe the cache and data, especially if you are going from lollipop to kit Kat or vice versa.

No need. Just make sure you backup your efs and radio because you need it if you want to go back to Touchwiz ROMs. Otherwise, you won't be able to call or use any sort of network options on your phone. EFS is super important. Make a backup, flash cm13. Whenever you wanna go back to stock, restore efs and radio with recovery.

what is entailed in backing up efs and radio? like, will a full nandroid cut it? or, a modem nandroid specifically?
EDIT: nevermind, searching is my friend.

Yes a full nandroid backup will backup your efs too, but have an individual backup on your phone and on your PC all the time. Believe me, you're gonna be very happy someday when you need it.
