Am I t only one experiencing frequent WIFi drops??? It's really awful...

same goes for me, it drops a lot,
even more when i use Hike direct

Same for me ... Hope it's a fixable software issue...

No wifi issues for me, I get around ~110Mbps throughput on 5GHz.

I had frequent wifi dropouts, with mine... a quick google search revealed:
Some people have suggested turning off Wi-Fi Scanning. You can do this at Settings > Scroll down to Location > Options (three vertical dots icon) > Scanning > Turn off Wi-fi Scanning.
tried it, seemed to work... haven't noticed the issue since... hope it helps...

No connections drops on the 5ghz, instead some drop on 2.4 ghz in hidden areas

How is the Wifi range compared to other phones (e.g. Samsung) if you have any additional phones to compare against ?

It drops frequently once every minute but range is quite good, over 1 km.

I am facing huge wifi drops like 10 times in 2 minute. I am not even able to watch a simple youtube video. tried everything mentioned.
I started facing this issue since Stock Offical got an update to Oreo's first build and only facing this issue on the Home router ( Tenda 301) then I switched to my previous Router Netgear the issue is persistent, while other devices on the same network don't get a drop at all. but works flawlessly on the office wifi or friends wifi.
God known who will help me because the Telegram group is useless nobody is ready to help me if some1 over helps me out that would be much much much more appreciated.
Thank you for Reading,

Big wifi limitation on sg ii !

Hi there
I found a BIG limitation in the SG II Wifi.
The problem is that: the Wifi class on the SG II is N but each time you try to put it online, getting a signal from your router, your MAX wifi speed connection will be ALWAYS at 65mb/s
(off course my router support WiFi N and i perform a check also on other routers from friends of mine having, finally, the same result)
Now i'm running the custom rom from LitePro (K8 kernel based) and this problem still there.
I presume it is only a software limitation and not an hardware limitation.
Can someone find a solution? Is it maybe necessary to modify the apks that make the Wifi work like we did with the camera sound?

Interesting. How are you calculating the connection speed?
@wifi-settings, click on the connected network and the shown mbit's will never be over 65... And in the app: overlook fing (nice network tool) will say the same.
Why would you need 600 Mbps on a mobile phone?
I have an dual N band router too but seriously on my phone I don't see the point of more them 20 mbps...

If i pay a phone 600 euros and who made it tell me that the Wifi is N so i WANT a WiFi N because my money are real money, not charms
I a lot more concerned with battery life and wifi range on my G2 then how fast it goes
I noticed when I use G instead of N the range seems be increase.

Unfortunatly i think that the battery problem is a tecnology problem: you have what you can have from this kind of tecnology, we can just make it a bit better but to have a reasonable time of charge we need a new kind of battery tecnology, compared to what the actual phone SLCD and Amoled screens ask to work .
Make sure you are on a channel without other APs.
To the OP, find an Android mobile phone that connects at a higher data speed than 65-72 Mbps and then come back with another dramatic thread.
Can you guys please do some research before making these dramatic threads?
Have u guys seen any difference in real life use ?
Forget about the numbers .
I always do video chats and works great.

This is the expected speed of 802.11n on a small device.
QAM-64 modulation delivers at most 65-72Mbit/s on devices without MIMO. A cell phone will not have MIMO capability for cost and size reasons (requires several antennas).
No vendor provides MIMO wifi chips for cell-phone usage, so even if you tried you would get rotten battery life and a huge cell phone as the MIMO chipsets are designed for having mains power or laptop batteries, and the antennas need physical separation.
This assumes 20 MHz channel. 11n does allow for a 40MHz channel, but you will never get this in practice on the 2.4GHz band as the standard requires devices to look for interferers in the band and back off to 20MHz channel for a long time if they see any. Given how crowded the 2.4GHz band is you will always see interferers hence you will always be forced to use 20MHz channels.
Search for 802.11n-2009 on wikipedia. (I'd post the link but the forum will not allow it)
Nevermind wifi speed. I used to get good signal sat in bed with my sgs 1. With this one I get 1 bar or no connection at all. Sometimes if i turn the phone I get enough for it to resume a download.
Fair enough 1 bar gives suffient speed but it drops completely
I've tried playing with channels, changing n/g to just g etc but the signal is just weak. Nothing changed with my router, my old phone got 2/3 bar signal, my wife's HTC desire gets 2. The laptop full bars.
I'm hoping this will be fixed in a firmware update some time.
Shame cus otherwise I love this phone. (Although bit miffed with Yamaha instead of wolfsen sound, hope they release version with wolfsen. Or sgs3 )

Well in theory you should get better range with n chipset (though some are reporting the opposite!)
So you pay more money to get N and with it better range and slightly better throughput than G ?

Same with me. Witn iPhone 4 I had 2 bars and good connection, with SGS2 I am forced to switch off wifi and using 3G instead, because no more than one bar of signal and I can't open any web page. I just ordered Netgear WN3000 repeater and I hope it will help me to increase the signal, but I will have more antennas in my bedroom to frying my small brain

Like I said in the cell reception thread, best phone I've ever used on all the antennas. Wifi works much better and much further away than any other phone I've ever used.

Almost unusable on 5ghz. At home I had to split WiFi signal into separate ssid’s for 2.4 and 5 ghz. Logging onto 2.4 ghz everything is fine. When traveling, using hotspots I have no control over the channel it uses. When logged onto 5ghz the d/l speeds are below 1 Mbps. Oddly enough, the u/l speeds are not affected. Right now getting 50 Mbps up.

Must be a problem with your phone or network then, as this phone has the strongest wifi coverage compared to all the phones I have had.
No problems whatsoever using 5ghz band.
Better strength and throughout then op3.
I would agree with you if not for the fact that the issue affects three OP (two OP 6, one OP 5t) devices in my household and not just at home. That makes me believe it is not my device, nor my home network.
Coming from 3t, I don't have to disable WiFi to improve Bluetooth headset performance anymore. It now just works without noise and both antennas enabled.
I'm very pleased with reception in general.
WiFi seems stronger then my Google Pixel 2 XL and my Samsung S9+. Signal Strength seems a little off when using (2) SIMs from the same Carrier, I would think the signal would match up equally from the 2 T-Mobile SIM Cards...
I always have full network signal, without any issues whatsoever. Wifi range is also pretty good, better than my previous phone.

Wifi range is good, probably the best I tested so far. Network signal is on full always, haven't got an issue with that.

Are there any other non-OP devices on your home networks' 5ghz that have better throughput?
I've managed to hit 500Mbps on wifi.
Nice.
Very fancy!
After installing P9 Beta, WiFi is working well, but all WiFi scanning apps telling me that no WiFi in range.
And this is after connection through menu when i have to input password to home AP.
It telling me "connected", i can use WiFi, it's fully operational, but WiFi Analyzer app can't see ANY signal (i got 5 AP)
May be not compatible with PIE ?
i think the wifi is pretty good and fast and beats my old galaxy s7 phone any time of the day.
Really good signal i have to say. Beats s6, s7e and p20 pro in our home atleast.
**info!**
For those few that had the issue with oneplus 6 killing your router I also have a fix: LAN>Switch Control and set Nat Acceleration to Disable (on router). Not sure why, but I'm happy I found the fix.. Not sure if it's only Asus routers that have this issue but.. Works just fine here now!
Wifi (2.4 GHz) seems to have way better reception than my gf's S9, so for me, it's quite good.

That generally happens when the two son cards are using two different networks. I had two Tmo sims & the 2nd one drops to 3g. Couldn't get them both to do LTE. I had the Dual 4g option toggled, but it never triggered it.

**Possible alternative fix**
I tried disabling nat acceleration and it worked. However i found out it severely reduces the throughput of the router, it got super slow. So that wasn't a viable fix for me. I was running latest merlin firmware for my rt-ac66u router, and i also tried both the A and L builds of John's fork without luck.
After a lot of experimenting with the settings in the router i found an option i didn't have on the merlin firmware -> WIFI -> Professional -> Regulation mode. On the 5Ghz frequency it was set to "802.11d+h", i changed it to "802.11h" and that seemed to do the trick. I haven't had a single router crash since i did that Worth a try!

WiFi slow performance, is this fixable ??

Hi Xda,
Got this new ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom ZE553KL phone and wondering if I am able to change the wifi driver or system configuration because its locked down to only 802.11g often my phone gets only 54mpbs !! While my other phone 150mbps on my 2.4g router. Also the phone does not support 5ghz or dual band so it only can go up to 72mbps in the best case which it is not even capable of 5 out of the 10 times I use it.
This really sucks because I see a notable connectivity slow down compared to my older phones !! When downloading or watching a YouTube video.. Ridiculous that Asus did cut corners on the wifi connectivity back to a standard that was introduced between 2003 and 2009 !!!
The Snapdragon specifications website shows it should support 802.11ac 5g.
In my old Lenovo phone sits the same SoC, and it does have proper wifi connectivity.
Did ASUS cheat, is it really a snapdragon or a Mediatek processor? Mac address vendor of the wifi hardware shows Asus rebranding.
Can I even root this puppy?
Snapdragon specs say:
Wi-Fi Standards: 802.11ac Wave 2, 802.11a/b/g, 802.11n
Wi-Fi Spectral Bands: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz
Peak speed: 433 Mbps
Channel Utilization: 20/40/80 MHz
MIMO Configuration: 1x1 (1-stream)
Peak QAM: 256 QAM
Wi-Fi Features: MU-MIMO, Integrated baseband
Even my 90 euro budget phone from back in 2014 went to up 150mbps..
I also have a bad feeling that there are a lot of cut corners on the wifi hotspot as well that I will have to use weekly for work.
If there's no proper way of fixing this. No more Asus phones for me. I already have a bad feeling that I need to VOID my warranty for it to be able to change anything like usually..
Other issues about the phone:
Bottom screen has two light halo effects in the screen (QC error !!!!)
And like always some problems (bugs) and removed features (latest firmware as of today)
1(bug). Set screen brightness to low, open camera app, close camera app, now the screen brightness will not always go completely down to what it was..
2. Show navigation bar feature missing. Change volume sound cannot be disabled.. Volume increasement half the steps of my Lenovo and previous phones. Blue screeen filter can't be modified, the default setting is useless because you can hardly see the difference.
Pros:
Regular software updates
Good camera
Amoled screen (but if you are unlucky you get a screen with halo in the bottom)
5000mah battery !
Other than that it seems to be a good phone for this amount of money.
You seems to be very confused. I've absolutely no problems with the wifi. It easily reaches 8-9MB/s on my 2.4GHz network and since I don't really care for the inferior 5GHz one that I do have but never use due to much weaker signal.
It's not the best phone in the world, but for the 140 bucks I paid for it, certainly it's a nice one.
I think you've set your expectations too high really.I see you've got a P2, I've had it for a while too and to be honest The Z3Z is better in so many ways, especially Camera, Speaker, Build, Price etc.
I'm afraid that you'll have to deal with the slow speed on wi-fi. I have a 100 mbps connection at home, and all phones i've tested get 95-105 speeds on speed tests, but the Zoom S is stuck at 54mbps. Unless you're willing to develop for this phone and see if there's something barring it from going faster software-wise, it is what it is.

You're right. It indeed is a good phone and the camera is better(speaker wise, I would prefer the Lenovo P2 but that's a personal opinion I guess), but I was disappointed about the WiFi, but yeah I'll just live with it. Seems they just didn't care about 5g for some reason. In my region 5G works a lot better then 2.4 even on longer range because of a lot of interference on the 2.4 spectrum. But yeah whatever, it works. The speed is indeed not terrible. Have done some more testing also with a WiFi hotspot I made and used in the hotel last time (worked flawlessly). I was in Germany and had a solid 4G connection, I guess the testing was in some way affected because of a poor cell reception or something (testing was done at home), or the DSL line at home had a slowdown at that time also not uncommon to happen..

I just deal with it, it is no big deal. Have been using the phone now for quite some time and it is fine. The only thing that sucks is that often in places where I go 2.4g spectrum is filled up with bull**** and it slows down or loses connection strength, this is why I would prefer 5g also, but alright. It is not going to happen..
Hey, I also had problems with slow WiFi. Almost to the unusable levels.
I've found out that switching Bluetooth OFF. Fixes the problem. Internet works back at full speed provided by ISP, and WiFi at routers' max.
I'm not sure if it's another firmware bug, or issue with MiBand/Bluetooth speakers.
I hope this trick will work for you

No problems so far after almost a week of living with it, max wifi speed is about 50mbps though, expected for such a budget phone like this.
By the way, the edit was a quick fix for a typo. I typed "Far" as "Fat"
I have horrible wifi connection (1 or 2Mbit ) when bluetooth is turned on. This phone seems to be unable to combine these 2 2.4ghz functions and 5ghz wifi is not an option in this phone. The 5Ghz Wifi is really not something they should have cut costs on in this age, really annoying.
Don't buy this phone if you want good wifi connection. It's gonna suck if you wanna use a smartwatch or if you live in a crowded place with a lot of other routers nearby (That's where 5Ghz would also make a huge difference because of less interference because of the shorter range).
