Yoga Book (WINDOWS) - Halo Keyboard, CPU and SD Card Reader - Lenovo Yoga Book Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I would like to know from You if you there's a way to improve the Halo Keyboard on Lenovo Yoga Book Windows edition, as well, the SD Card reader.
During these weeks, I've noticed two annoying issues.
1. Halo Keyboard: the touch mouse pad sometime goes off
2. SD Card Reader: I've installed an SD 64Gb card to put in place only documents files, I've tried several combination of file system format: NTFS, FAT32 and XFAT but in all cases, the access on files it's really slow, sometime freeze the "computer", and sometime the file cannot be opened due to several code error like time out expired and so on. The cards tested are both MicroSDXC kingstone and Trascend Premium 300x UHS-I Grade 1, Class 10.
3. there's a way to improve and speed up CPU?
There's lot of discussions on Lenovo Forum but no relevant solution or fix.
Thanks in advance,
all my best to all

It's a feature. Not a bug. The mouse pad deactivates while you are typing to avoid unwanted mouse movements. Just tap the white circle inside the touch pad to revive it...
There is an App to modify your Touchpad area https://forum.xda-developers.com/yoga-book/themes/yoga-book-touch-pad-setting-application-t3569836

UHS Class 1 is probably $5 saved at the wrong place as it only supports 10MBs
I have a UHS 3 V60 and it's doing pretty awesome... I mean a SD Card will never be able to compete with a SSD harddisk. Therefore never ever install Applications on it. Use your drive C: for Apps and the SD just for the Data

You can't overclock Atom's nor does the BIOS allow changes of the DDR Bus Speed.
There are several settings and tweaks you could change under Windows to improve your general impression. But understand this would be to extensive to list here. There are endless of Websites which explain you how to tweak Windows.

Thanks a lot @jamespmi, I'll do it some test right now.
You provide me a good input and suggestion, I was aware about the Halo function but I was not aware about the program mentioned in your post.
Thx again

Micro Drive & SDHC, which one is faster?

Hi guys, since i am getting my DOPOD U1000 this week, i want to know where is the best place to install my program and store my music and photo.
I have purchase a 4GB mini SDHC. Compare to the micro drive, which one should i use to install my program. (which one is faster?)
For music & movie, i think i will store it in Micro Drive. How about photos? Will there be delays if i store the photo taken by camera in Micro drive? or is it better to store in SDHC?
Thank
I had the Samsung SGH-i300. Nice WM Smartphone with 4 GB micro drive....it drains the battery like a starving beast. With improvements in technology, things should be a little better now, but don't expect too much, hence 128 ROM & 256 RAM (for regularly used apps and accessed files).
Micro drive will drain your battery severely. Best way to look at it is this way; put the files that you will most frequently access on your SDHC card and larger files like movies on your micro drive.
Photos? Difficult one really. Personally, I have two categories of photos; Newly taken ones which I want to see regularly for a while + Wallpapers etc [store these on SD card]
Older collection of Photos/Albums- occasional use but important to me personally th have always available [Store these on Micro Drive]
Movies and Music and PC data for various reasons [Micro Drive]
Regularly used apps not installed to default device location [SD Card]
Don't forget the micro drive is mechanical and therefore drains battery power more that's why it's good to use SD card for heavy use.

only the ram in device is clear, micro drive and mini sd will stay un-touch. Of course , there is a function that you can format the micro alone as well

Also Arya, don't forget that we're talking about WM5 here. There will likely not be many problems if you were using the same apps on a previous WM5 PPC.
Personally I will set up as follows:
1) Only install apps which have proved to be no probs in over 3 months of use, prior to getting the X7500.
2) Test each app for only 10-15 minutes with a couple of soft resets and whilst other apps run in background.
3) No more than essential apps initially (don't even want a X7500 if it can't run this).
4) These apps for me are: Batti v2.0, WA2, Resco Photo Viewer, Total Commander, Coreplayer (or TCPMP) and PocketMusic. Providing these work without issue for 15 minutes - 60 minutes, I do a Full backup with Spb Backup. Then I do a contacts backup using Spb Backup. Then I have my primary set-up to revert to if things go wrong as I install other apps in the future.
5) This should really come before the backup. Ensure UMTS connects and disconnects as it should and that my primary Wi-fi is protected (secured) and my sim contacts have been saved to my outlook contacts.
6)That's the basics. Then transfer all 'storage data' like Movies, Music and occasionally accessed Photos to Micro-Drive. Also PC data to be used in other places other than home or work can also be stored here.
7) Personal Ring-tone folder - SD Card
8) Regularly accessed Photos and recently taken Photos - SD Card...Why?...because I often take my SD card to transfer photos to mine and other PC's. If the X7500 has mass storage capabilities due to USB host capabilities, then this may change to Micro-Drive only, but that means I always have to walk with a lead. (No thanks - the X75 is big enough)
9)Before -all games to SD card...Now - all games to device unless they exceed 15mb.
10)Backup Device and have duplicate copy of personalized file structure and folders on Micro Drive, just in case.
I should now have 3 Backups:
1) Primary backup - Essential apps with everything working beautifully.
2) Contacts backup - make a scheduled backup of this once a week to include new additions and replace last Contacts backup.
3)Big Backup - Final and fully loaded Device backup including SD card and micr drive Backup.
Lastly should have been first. Play with original ROM without 3rd party apps for at least 48 hours (however many days it takes to achieve the hours). Why?..to ensure you are happy with the ROM before you go through all this work.
Remember the device backup is not transferable to other ROMs, nor will applications that were installed to SD card or Micro drive. Hence the reason why I put 'storage data' on the micro drive and SD card, because it can be used again.
Then I just install whatever whenever, without fear of a total rebuild.
Not least of all, be prepared to do it all over again when WM6 becomes available for the X7500.
And yes I'll be doing it - can live without Video calling.
Sorry for the long post people, but I hope someone finds it useful as it has taken me years to get a system that gives me no problems at all.....but that's exactly what I always end up with after all the problems have been resolved and tweaks applied...a device to die for. Not literally.

I have a 2GB Trancend 80x MiniSD and ran the speed benchmark test using SK Tools. Here's the result :
Storage Card (write); 535.28;KB/sec
Storage Card (read); 875.84;KB/sec
MicroDrive (write);14733.81;KB/sec
MicroDrive (read);11792.71;KB/sec
Storage card wins hands down as expected.

sorry i am a bit confuse here, i though the bigger value is better, so storage card can write 535.28 Kb per second where micro drive can write 14733.81 Kb per second. Or am i wrong here?
Yeah, that's how I'm reading those values.
Guys, you're absolutely right ofcourse. Its 12:38AM here and I think I should go to sleep. Playing with the new U1000 for 8 hours flat I think I am starting to loose it. Thanks for setting the record straight...

Hi k_Kik,
Could I seek the following clarification?
How was your card formatted?
- Do you back up the FAT table?
- Is it with FAT32 ?
- What was your cluster size?
Also, SK tools seems to always give a very good reading for the first test, then have a drastically lowered reading from second test onward (That has been my observation). Is your reading the first one or the second one onward? Also, the reading differs drastically depending on the above settings used to format the card. My own test shows the following: (All FAT 32 formatting and without FAT table backup)
Cluster size----1st write--1st read----subsequent write/read
0.5K---------- 13.26KB/s--798KB/s---not tested
1K------------15.76-------931------not tested
2K------------238---------930------not tested
4K------------264---------931 -----not tested
8K------------518---------931-------270/922-- 266/922
16K---------- 490---------911------235/748----232/688
32K----------518---------950------241/701------240/708----243/720
I also tested with FAT table backup as a formatting setting, and got the following result
32k---------144---------821-------91/750
My card is a class 4 4GB miniSDHC card made by Toshiba, manufactured in Japan.
It appears that in my case the best performance that SKtools would report comes from FAT32 with no FAT table backup, and cluster size of 32KB. Is your card formatted with the same setting?

The weirdest thing happened to me today

The weirdest thing happened to me today and I was wondering if anyone can help me identify the culprit.
I was listening to some music when all of a sudden the player (Nitrogen) freezed.
I opened the player again and the songs wouldnt play,
so I looked in the library only to find that there was one song left in my /Storage Device/Music folder.
I have roughly 1.5 GB of music on my 2 GB sd-card.
When I got home I put the sd-card in my cardreader and it says that there's 100 MB of free space left
but when I select all files on the card it shows up as only 300 MB.
When I open the folder it only shows one mp3 file.
When I select all files on the card it shows that it's only 300 MB.
- I tried searching for it by file names
- I've got "see hidden folders" enabled
Mind you, I do have a backup,
just wanted to see to it that it doesn't happen again.
Update: It happened for a second time now
I formatted my sd-card and while I was copying 2 mp3 files from my computer to my sd-card, (all the files were still there) a message popped up stating that it failed and I should check if the file wasn't protected
After the message popped up all of the files inside the folder were gone (including album art)
Again, there is little free space but all the folders combined equals no more than a few hundred MB.
It would be appreciated it if someone could help me out
Thanks,
Hi mo.ammi
I work for a company who sell a lot of memory cards and the returns dept see this a lot, you should get acronis disk director and reformat the card as NTFS (most come as FAT32) When the write to the card fails it is usually because FAT32 will not take as large a file for transfer due to size restrictions, NTFS does not have these restrictions.
I have seen this work in some cases, however if it does not solve the issue then i suggest you send the card back.
Hope this helps,
Creamy-Goodness
My bet would be it's a fake (not genuine) card. Such issues are pretty common with them.

Do mind that if you do this, the card can no longer be used to flash your device, as that requires FAT32. Also, I'm not completely sure about the normal compatibility with the X1, but I guess you can give it a try.

I tried your method and at the moment it seems stable.
You say it's usually because FAT32 won't accept large files (larger than 4GB if I remember).
But my largest file is an episode of American Dad (100MB)
Anyway, thanks for your help. Luckily it's just a 2GB card

i tried using acronis but it only shows my hard drives and not flash drives, would not mind a last ditch attempt to save it if you tell me how??
i had the same problem with a 8 GB card.
installed some tool to format the card under windows mobile took ages and i ran out of battery ... now the card is totaly unreadable. not even windows recoknizes it anymore.
guess its borked now
Hi Flext,
I am unsure as to why your card is not visible by the Acronis suite, have you tried looking in disk management on the OS to check if the PC can see it as attached?
As Angelusz has stated you will not be able to flash firmware with the Card after changing the format, however the Acronis suite will allow you to create a small partition of FAT32 on the same card that could be used for this purpose. I do not know if the Xperia will recognise both partitions and display that you have two seperate cards, if anyone has tested this can they please post their findings.
Regards,
Creamy-Goodness
windows recognises the card in my computer but when i try to explore or format it my computer hangs, forever, then normally displays an error message an hour later....
i originally installed acronis a while ago to create partions for backtrack 3, when i did this i dont remember any other drive except my HD's being displayed maybe its the version of acronis im using???
also my X1 does not see the card at all though, "there is no storage card installed", however when i plug the card into the phone when it is sleeping the phone wakes up???
Hi Flext,
Sorry to say this but i think you card is indeed knackered. Just buy another, they are really cheap these days (even the non faked ones) It would be easier on your own sanity to bin it and move on.
Oh and i'm using the latest version of acronis, just checked but i dont think it makes much difference as it seems to be more or less the same UI and functionality.
Kind Regards,
Creamy
got weird problem too with my sd card i have seen the number of mp3 count on media panel decrease to zero after an update to r2a

Install in Storage Card or Internal Memory?

Where do you guys usually install your apps to? Are there any benefits in installing to the Storage Card vs. installing in the internal memory of the phone?
Is the phone faster if all apps are installed on the storage card?
some apps definitely would not respond well if you install it in the storage card, especially if the app needs to 'wake up' from the power standby, due to the battery saving mode for external storage.
with X1, the phone storage is plenty that it doesn't make any difference for you to install in phone storage versus external. Upon fresh hardreset, my phone would have at least 204MB after deleting away the demo videos, etc. And this is standard ROM, not custom ROM.

The truth is that it is "horses for courses"
If you regard the device as a phone with a bit of residual computer capability, then 300Mb of Storage will last a lifetime
If you regard it as a computer with a phone segment attached, then use the SD card for everything you can. The tnyynt SD tweak for speeding card access is brilliant to the point where I am unable to tell the practical difference between Storage and card use.
I use mine as a work computer with a phone attached. My 16Gb card is already 55% full (ie. just under 9Gb of data and programs) - this cannot fit in Storage.
man what kind of programs and data that you have that takes over 8 gigs on your phone.
music and videos i can understand, programs and data???? i got a 4 gig card and the only program that i have that takes up 1 gig is the maps for tomtom 7.910
hopefully the 32 gig card will be compatable with the x1 in the near future.

OK, well 1) as I said, my device is used as a computer with a phone segment attached, so having >8Gb "on my phone" is not really accurate. I have >8Gb on my card (ie. HDD) and growing
2) Music and video ?? None of them, I use hifi and TV for those when I'm home
3) I use the device for geological/geotechnical mapping on a world-wide basis, together with CAD/3D modeling of collected and supplied data. So high-level topo data, drillhole data, outcrop data, survey data, engineering constraints, zillions of reference reports etc etc + the slew of large programs needed to run these data collections
So for me, smaller, faster ROM = better and better
4) you bet I'm hanging out for the 32Gb cards
problem with having too little phone storage is some program use storage as temp
currently i have about 40gb storage free but still
the comic book reader crash often because the .net program in question
unzip the whole comic to some temp dir in phone storage
when it operates and apparently the comic use more then 40gb
would be easy for the programmer to fix so it didn't unzip all or did it to
the sd card but..
I put pretty much all programs that can be installed onto the card on the card... I also have shedloads of files on there mainly for language learning (I am learning Chinese and also have some Russian stuff)... from 16gb I am down to 7.7 and thats only cos I deleted a few tv shows from China...
PS I am reposting this due to the deletion bug thing... I did have a longer post but cant remeber all my witty reply...
flip a coin

How do you use it ?

Guys,
I won't do any statement on the phone, I just would like to know how do you use your samsung ?
Especially :
* do you have an additionnal sd card ?
* do you put a lot of music ( I have around 8Go)
* do you have exchange mail account ? Which kind of sync ? How many mail in the inbox ( I have hundreds)
* How many app do you install ? If you have a new ROM like JM2 there is an easy way to see how much space is used for apps, so what about you ?
WHen I installed JM2, the phone was very quick. I was especially impressed by the speed to re install all my apps. It took each time only few sec to download and install the app.
I think it started to slow down when I put all my music on the internal SD card.
I will remove the music and also my mail just to test ... the best would be to do an hardware reset, and if I have the time it's what I will do
Last question, I have a micro SD crad but it's only 2Gb. DO you think I could use it to try the mimocan fix ? I would put only one partition of the whole 1.8 Gb.
Did anybody try this ?
Thanks a lot
Lots of questions here man. I don't have an answer for each one but my SGS is my go to portable media player, phone, video player, social hub, GPS thingy, and camera.
Wish I could have afforded the 16GB version though since I got lots of music.

Sent using my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 using the XDA App
1) yes, 16GB class 6 Transcend and 16GB A-data class 6
2) yes, mucho more
3) yes, Google gmail (exchange = m.google.com)
instructions here --> http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/
4) yes, mucho games, and apps, all installed to SD card using the hacks
it saves RAM, and makes phone mucho mas faster
5) no, to use the mimoca speed hack, you need to have 2 partitions, the 2nd partition for Android in ext3 or ext4
you can make small fat32 partition then the rest for ext3/4
no much need for mimoca if you install software to SD card instead of RAM

Last question, I have a micro SD crad but it's only 2Gb. DO you think I could use it to try the mimocan fix ? I would put only one partition of the whole 1.8 Gb.
Did anybody try this ?
Thanks a lot

1) yes, 16GB class 6 Transcend and 16GB A-data class 6
2) yes, mucho more
3) yes, Google gmail (exchange = m.google.com)
instructions here --> http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/

Thanks for the reply
I just applied the mimocan fix on my 2Gb microsd card.
And for sure it makes a hell of a difference !
I will continue to put my music library and see waht happens

Enable adoptable storage on ASUS Marshmallow Beta firmware

Although ASUS has removed the new Marshmallow option to format the external SD Card as adoptable storage, it can easily be done via adb. Just follow this guide:
http://www.modaco.com/news/android/...e-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/
The only difference I found was that on mine the drive location numbers were separated by a comma rather than a colon (i.e. 169,64).
Here is a screenshot of my 16GB model with 16GB SD card adopted:

Thanks that's super useful, I will give this a try and let you know if it works for me, I don't know why ASUS removed this feature as its probably the best feature of marshmallow, anyway I think its recommended to have a minimum of a class 10 SD card when using adoptable storage to ensure there's no slowdown when accessing things on the SD card.

Pretty sure they removed it to keep things simple and because it doesn't work perfectly. Even with a class 10 SD card, it is noticeably slow. I will probably move most, if not all of my apps back to the real internal storage. But that's fine. At least it means I don't have to worry about running out of space, and don't have to manage where podcasts, videos, photos etc are being stored.

Yeah I guess so and the speed is a big issue, I think you'd probably have to use an UHS SD card to make it work smoothly. But still useful
I agree about the UHS card. And even amongst regular class 10 cards, I understand there is considerable difference. Mine was a cheaper brand and performance is not great, but I'm told that Samsung Evo ones, for example, are better.
Also agree that it is a useful feature. Because it needs some management and user interaction, it's probably wise that makers like Samsung and ASUS have taken it out, as it might cause more harm than good for average users who really need things to just work. However, it's a nice feature for us tech nerd xda types who can handle it appropriately, and it's an easy little hack to enable it so it's all good. And let's be honest, we all enjoy little hidden extra features that we can hacktivate by ourselves!
I swapped out my cheap generic Class 10 SDHC for a better UHS (40 Mbps) Class 10 SDHC one today. The difference is very noticeable - apps on the UHS card open almost instantaneously, unlike on the regular card, where there was a long delay before they opened.
Can someone check the build.prop and tell me what this line says
ro.build.characteristics=
If it says nodscard or similar try changing it to say
ro.build.characteristics=default
And see if that will enable native adoptable storage.

You're getting it all wrong. It's all about profit. If the manufacturers leave in the option to adopt external storage, knowledgeable consumers will have no reason to spend more $$ and buy the manufacturers' devices with larger internal memory. And yes, it also saves them a lot of support issues with people complaining their phone is slow, when it turns out they are using slow SD cards.
So, it's nice that Google added that feature, but ultimately I believe very few of the really big / mainstream manufacturers will actually not disable it. As was mentioned in many articles around the 'net, this feature is really meant for AndroidOne devices, cheap devices with very little internal memory.
So, could anyone post Sequential Read / Write and Random Read / Write speeds that would allow SD card to match or get close enough to ZenFone 2's internal storage?
It's really hard to choose the right SD card when every article in the Internet literally starts and ends with "class 6 card is worse than class 10 card but they are both ok for Full HD video derpaderp..." I KNOW it's OK for HD-video but that's not THE ONLY THING I am going to do with my SMART-freakin'-phone! We are not 5 years old, we can understand a bit more complicated technical specs than that.

You'll never get close to internal speeds. Even with the fastest cards.

Well, if we can trust this article, http://www.anandtech.com/show/9251/the-asus-zenfone-2-review/6 , it doesn't seem like completely unreacheble. But it's hard to compare results from different testing software.
Btw, I don't need something extremely close, all I want is to get apps to launch from SD card within reasonable time.
Non-UHS Class 10 card was useless, but now that I am using the 40 Mbps UHS card, it's not that bad. Apps open reasonably fast and hasn't really behaved any differently. And this was a cheap 16GB card from a Japanese maker called Greenhouse that I picked up on sale for the equivalent of about $7 .
I was able to set up the storage as adoptable on my device, but no apps allow the option to move to the SD card. I'm guessing if I want this to happen I need to uninstall/reinstall the apps, since they go to the most available space by default?
Edit: what about copying over data to store externally on the card? Since it's formatted as internal, of course it doesn't show the card in file explorer apps or in Windows. I've got 28 gigs of media files to copy over from the old card and I'm not sure where to put it.
Hallo.
I've tried to enable adoptable storage and it's success. But after 1 month, my sd card has been crash.
The problem is my (real) internal storage now only can run the app, but can't use to save file, music, video, etc. Even I can't use my camera to take photo, bcz the (real) internal storage is not available.
It's bcz when I enable the adoptable storage, it's separated the (real) internal storage only for save data app, and internal storage (from sdcard) for save data app and also file like music, photo, video, etc.
How to enable my (real) internal storage to save data file like usually?
Plz anyone can help? I really appreciate it.
android 7.1.1 ??
Will this work on zenfone 4 max with android 7.1.1? For ADB tools, I wasn't sure what to answer (Y or N) on some of the installation questions. I said N to system wide and N to install drivers. The instructions above seemed ambiguous that you could say yes or no to skip steps, but not sure if that's why it didn't work for me or if this tutorial was for older phone software. Also I have windows 10 and power shell window not command window. Any help much appreciated!
