Questions about LG G6 software implementation - LG G6 Questions and Answers

I am thinking of buying an LG G6. My current phone is a Nexus 5X and I wanted to ask an owner of the G6 if the following software features are available:
1) SIP calling, as described here using the native dialer: https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2811843?hl=en Option 2: Use a VOIP service to make calls over Wi-Fi (SIP)
2) Can the SD card be formated as internal storage? This is available since android 6 but some OEMs disable it on their devices.
3) Is the data saver available as in the nexus devices? Data saver disables background data for apps when you activate it, for example during roaming. https://www.technobezz.com/enable-data-saver-android-nougat/

Lots of Data usage and i'm facing $300 in usage cost.

I have a 6GB plan and somehow I have used up 16 gb of data and apparently yesterday I used 8gb on my phone. I have unlimited Wifi at home and I always connected when at home.
I didn't leave the house yesterday.. but some how I managed to used 8gb according to my phone company which is Bell Canada. Called and they informed me that the charges were legitimate and there is nothing I can do about it.
My whatsapp (plus) showed that it used 12gb and that's crazy to me. Rom - Dynamic Pop 6.0 with Canadian Data fix. Please help guys..
Guys I did not use 16gb of data but some how my phone company is getting that information from my phone.. how is this possible ?
I don't think you should have used whatsapp plus, it's not an official app. Normal whatsapp uses very little data.
If it's whatsapp plus that caused it (go to settings > data usage and look for any big spikes in usage by any app), then you should uninstall it and hope that these issues don't happen again.

but how could whatsapp plus use 8gb of data in one single day according to technical support?

Question about Huawei Mate 9 Pro dual-SIM functionality

Hi
I'm strongly considering to buy the Huawei Mate 9 Pro, but I have a question regarding the dual-SIM functionality, that I can't seem to find any information about.
One of the selling points for this phone is that both SIM cards can have data access - one with 4G and the other with 3G. Now, my question is wether both connections can be used at the same time - like bundling, for even higher throughput/coverage? I kinda suspect that you have to select which data connection to use, but it would be awesome if there is a way to have both work and active simultaneously.
If the function isn't there natively, can an app like Speedify be used to activate both connections?
I hope someone will be able to provide an answer
/Martin

No. you can not use both SIM internet at a one time. Only one SIM can be use for internet that you selected.
Speedify is works like a vpn. It can use Wi-Fi and mobile data at a one time. I don't think it work on mobile data.

Hi there,
So far only one SIM can be used for data. I am wander if second SIM can work in 3G mode. I can't find any information about it. For example Huawei P9 Plus one SIM must work with 2G only.

The second sim can work on 3G for calling only if you are using the other for data. You choose which sim is the data provider.

Activate WiFi Calling/ Encryption, Honor 8 Nougat (No Root)

So I've always thought WiFi Calling was interesting and when I bought this phone I knew there was no WiFi calling. Here is a method to activate WiFi calling. not sure if it works though as I have international data plans + calling.
You do this at your own risk.
1. Download Nova Launcher from the Play store.
2. Once installed add the activities widget to whatever home screen you like.
3. A window will open. Scroll all the way down to settings open it.
4. From there start scrolling until you see WiFi Calling with WiFi Calling settings right under it and long press either of them.
5. Congrats you have made it to the WiFi calling screen all you do now is hit that switch!
Encryption-
1. Do the same up until number 3.
2. click on settings and scroll until you find Encrypt Phone.
3. Do a long click and a screen will pop up and it will say something like make sure you're at 80 percent with the charger plugged in...etc
NOTE- I have not tested this option so proceed with caution.
I'll put some screenshots for those who want to see it first.
This also works to get encryption surprisingly.
If this helps you make sure to hit Thanks!
I take no responsibility if you choose to do this and end up damaging your device. You do this at your own risk!
Is this Carrier dependent?

If the carrier supports WiFi calling then it should work. I'm not too sure. Give it a try and see if it works if it doesn't then you can just turn it off. It should also work on any model but I only have FRD-L14 to test it with.
Just curious, have you tried to use the default launcher after you enabled wifi-calling in Nova? Will this feature still work in that case? This sounds really interesting...

I did not activate Nova at all when I used it. In the screenshots above you can see it is the default EMUI Launcher that I used to activate with.
As long as the bootloader is locked, the phone should already be encrypted.

I had not tried it but when I tried to activate it , it literally just rebooted and that's it. I only put it cause I had seen some posts about people looking for the option in settings.

Turns out, this doesn't work on my phone (FRD-L04) with T-mobile. I followed your instructions to enable the Wifi-calling setting with Nova launcher and then restarted the phone to make sure everything resets as the setting defined. Then I put the phone in the Airplane mode with only wifi signal available. Called a number for a quick test, but it asked me to connect to a cellular signal or turn off the Airplane mode first. T-mobile should have the Wifi-calling enabled on their end, and I am using their prepaid plan right now. I guess the only reason why it didn't work is Huawei has other hidden settings disabled this function at the root (not sure on the software or hardware level, though).
Let me know if anyone can make it work truly. Thanks!

You can't use WiFi calling while in airplane mode as long as you have bars it should work.
Ex. Say you're in Mexico and you got WiFi then you turn on WiFi and you should technically be able to get calls like if you where in the US.

Here is a reddit thread that confirms wifi calling should work on phones that have airplane mode on while wifi is enabled to connect to the T-mobile network: https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/5txjca/how_can_i_know_if_wifi_calling_is_working/

Hmm my younger brother has a ZTE ZMAX PRO and it WiFi calling wouldn't work if he had airplane mode activated so I assumed most would work in the same way. He is on MetroPCS which is technically the same as T-Mobile

At the top I said I did not test because I have an international data plan so there is no point for me to try and use it.

Gotcha. Your method is similar to what OnePlus One people did before, and yields similar result--not really working. I guess we have to wait for Huawei to implement some function in their future EMUI release. They claimed they had a plan for EMUI 5 but not in this release in reality. Seems Huawei people are not in a hurry, possibly because the Chinese market doesn't have the demand for wifi calling.

That's true. I kinda didn't expect much from it but it will most likely be coming in a future update anyways
Using FDR-L14 with TMobile and enabling the WiFi Calling doesn't seem to do anything here as well.
That said, I am super excited to see that Huawei/Honor working on this!!!!!
My understanding is that Wi-Fi calling functionality is a combination of the radio + kernel. It's why AOSP-based ROMs have never been able to get Wi-Fi calling or SMS working, they don't have the closed-source drivers needed to make it happen. So in essence enabling it via a Menu item is simply toggling a UI switch with no back-end code to actually make the calling work.

1.) I bought Honor 8 with Nougat
2.) Called my service provider Ultra Mobile (piggy backs on T-Mobile) to enable WIFI calling, they took my E911 address and enabled it.
3.) Installed Nova
4.) Turned the WIFI calling switch to ON
5.) It didnt work in Airplane mode, it didn't work when I have WIFI and no cell reception. Not able to make calls.
This was already discussed in another thread a few weeks ago and no it definitely does not work it's just a toggle switch in settings Wi-Fi calling is not enabled on this phone. I personally tested it on AT&T sim using wifi in my basement where I can't receive a signal and multiple people tested it on T-MOBILE.

Use data on secondary sim during call

With Huawei, Xiaomi, iPhone dual sim, and many other dual-sim phones, there's an option to enable data on the sim card a phone call comes in on, even if this sim card is not the primary data sim.
This feature would be extremely useful to me on the Oneplus 6T, but I don't see an option anywhere.
I dug through the settings database and so on and didn't see anything which might correspond to that feature, either.
Anyone know if there's a setting buried in there somewhere to enable this? The setting I'm referring to is called "Use mobile data during VoLTE calls on the secondary SIM" on Xiaomi devices.
I'm also looking for this option...

Same here as well. I have this issue and would like to see a way to get this to function. Do not know if it is supposed to work or not or if a tweak exists. I just got Dual VoLTE working and noticed this issue after. Didn't know if my tweak caused it or not. I'd even be willing to use a custom rom if it provided the function.
Maybe next version of OxygenOS will have that option...

Will a OnePlus 8 Pro work for me?

I am looking to by a device specifically for the purpose of modding rooting etc.
1st My biggest need is the ability to disable 5g radio when needed.
2nd Would like to remove any all ability of the carrier to monitor/control/dictate how I use my data. This may not be completely be possible but the goal is to find a viable option to using the buggy pdanet tether app.
3rd specific to this phone I would like to make sure I can re-enable the Infrared Camera. Herd it was disabled in a patch.
How much of this can be done with a OnePlus 8 Pro? Should I look at a different model?

You can disable 5g through the menus. There's also a setting called smart 5g or something which minimizes 5g activity to preserve battery life somehow.
Not sure about using your data how you want. A vpn may be able to help out with that. It's what I use and have had no issues with tmobile stopping me from doing my business.
I don't think there's an infrared camera, bit you can reactivate the monochrome filter dealt by some adb commands and it seems to be a good workaround.
Without the phone being rooted, placing an AT&T sim in my current Fold 2 results in the menu option to disable 5g being grayed out. This does not happened when I put a t mobile sim in the same fold 2. Just want to make sure that does not happen again so I was hoping to get a phone that is easily rooted and supported by the community which is why I am looking at the Oneplus 8 Pro. I also have and use VPN's, but that is not what I am trying to control. Basically ATT monitors all active interfaces on the phones on their network and can tell when I am tethering and how I am tethering. I want to make sure that if I root the device I can disable all this monitoring. I have and use PDAnet but its very buggy and not being supported it seems with windows 10. The 8 Pro does have an infrared camera, but that is really just a reason for me to get the 8 over the 7t...
I have discovered that while I can't disable the 5g radio I can, with an app, set my preferred connection method while on ATT to LTE. This allows me to connect to the faster LTE radios on the towers near me over the slower 5g radios. 5g support in my area is very poor so LTE ends up being considerably faster.
I appreciate the input though. Do you happen to know if you can submit AT commands on a rooted 8 Pro? At commands also called Hayes commands sometimes. This is the sort of low level configuration used to change or mask IMEI's, change lte bands, and most importantly strap or aggregate lte bands.
