Hi all-
I just bought a J320M (dual sim) to use in the U.S. According to the pdadb.net specifications, the chipset/architecture is the same as the J320F, J320FN, J320G, J320ZN -- Spreadtrum SC9830i.
Does this mean I can use ROMs built for those phones on the J320M?
Sorry for the dumb question but just want to make sure. Thank you! :good:

Not such a dumb question really, all the architecture seems the same (as the FN at least), so an FN ROM should be usable but you would have to change the boot.img. if you check the FN lineage thread someone very recently asked almost the same question, it may help start you off.

The SMG900F is the best supported model if you like rooting, flashing and modding and It also supports the download booster. It has a Qualcomm 801 Quadcore cpu.

International is a vague description, but 900F and 900H would best fit the appellation. As noted above the 900F and a variety of other variant models have the download booster feature. You could check with carriers or search the forum if you want to learn whether specific variants also utilize that feature.

Okay thanks guys i like flashing roms and rooting so i think the GM900F would be a good option since it also has download booster.
I've searched for the answers to this to some extent. I had the S3 which was compatible with the AT&T 747, but the question is, is there a compatible US model for the S5? Can I flash stock ROMS for the G or F, say?

I believe you want a phone that supports 1700Mhz and 2600Mhz which is band 4 and 7. That covers the 3 amigos (bell, telus, rogers).
Looking at the Galaxy s5 specs that would be G900A (At&t), G900M(Vodafone), G900T (Tmobile).
I would post the links but this site won't let me.
Supposedly all s5's have a fully populated radio so only limitation if any is firmware anyways and there are procedures on this site how to change that now. So in theory any s5 can be made to work. If not please correct me.
I do recall that when 4.3 started leaking for the s3 there was bootloader issues that made them very unfriendly together between AT&T and Canadian. Does anyone know if these bootloaders are still an issue?
Wow it really is amazing how many people DON'T search or have any urge in their mind to find out the answers themselves. If you'd of just searched the boards instead of making this thread you would have your answer, but that would be too easy I guess so why not get spoon fed??

He you condescending prick. I've helped countless people around here. My thanks to posts ratio is about triple yours. So yeah, I read. And for once in years i took the lazy way. So feel free to take your head out your ass look at my profile and see the countless people I've helped along the way, and just answer the fu(king question instead of being a pompous douche. Unless of course you don't know sh!t and just wanna roll through finding the easy troll posts.
So at any time, feel free to be part of the XDA community for what it is and assist someone instead of being a ****.

You are safe to flash all CUSTOM 900f roms (Non Odin Flashable) .
You can only flash 900w8 STOCK ROMS (Odin flashable)
As for Bootloaders, you can only flash 900w8 variants, for example,my carrier is Sask tel, but I use the latest Puerto Rico bootloader and it's no problem. So as long as its for a 900w8 it should be OK. Always double check to make sure any advise given is accurate and you don't pay the price. Just saying..

Thank you good sir.
Hello guys, need clarification, what the difference between SM-G900MD and SM-G900FD? Is it possible to use ROMs from MD for FD and from FD for MD? For my opinion they are similar.... but may be i'm wrong

As far as hardware they both are same. The SM-G900FD is for middle east countries and SM-G900MD is for Brazil.
I am using SM-G900MD on my SM-G900FD device without any problem. You have to check what bands are supported for your country.
Cheers
Dear altogether,
please excuse me, that I dig up this thread again, but I think I have more detailed question to this issue:

Despite the fact, that their hardware is the same, their supported bands are different as found in their specifications (https://www.frequencycheck.com/comp...m-g900fd-galaxy-s5-duos-lte-a-samsung-pacific). Does that imply, that the range of supported bands is solely defined by the (modem-)software used?
If so, I would be quite happy!
Here is the background to my question:
I aquired a MD (as shown in download mode) which was labeled as FD (in Device Info -> Model in its stock firmware AND on its sticker behind the battery(!)).
Thinking to own a FD, I flashed the DevBase 3.5 by @_alexndr with noroot option (great thanks for this firmware, I already use it with a true FD!): http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-bof1-devbase-multi-csc-safe-bloat-t3145437.
When I bootet in download mode to flash the bootloader and modem as well, I first noted Knox 0x1 and then the letters SM-G900MD where I was to ecpect SM-G900FD. As I was curious, I flashed them anyway after finding this thread and the device booted successfully.
Now I ask myself, if this action made this device support the bands of the FD instead the ones of the MD. Unfortunately, I can not test it, as I have no LTE enabled SIM nor have I an idea to test the support of a single band.
Maybe there is someone who has an idea...
Best and thanks for your efforts!

There's 2 opinions here, 1 being that an exynos firmware won't work on snapdragon device, which I personally believe is true but people have also told me there's nothing saying that you can't, but no one even though telling me that it can be done has actually shown me it being some successfully. I stick with my belief that it won't work.

I understood that, it could be possible but nobody tried before, the problem isn't the firmware, the phone just need a custom kernel that could interpret the exynos instructions and the snapdragon anatomy. In the note 5 the variant change can be possible but the note 5 don't have a snapdragon variant
I did my question 'cause there isn't many custom ROMs for the g950u variant
Thank you for the reply

Snapdragon bootloader is locked bar the Chinese version, so until they somehow do that, you won't see custom roms or kernels
They're different processors. It won't work.
You can flash W or U1 fw on a U and U on a W or U1. All American models are the same hardware so they're interchangeable.

That's not true. They are both arm64 v8 processors, meaning they will both execute arm64 machine instructions. It's like Intel and amd, they both implement x86_64. You don't need a different version of Windows for Intel vs amd, nor do you have to download different programs for one vs the other.
Even kernels do not have to be different. There is no reason that support for any hardware differentiation between the two models (of which there are few outside the soc itself) could not be part of the same kernel. PC Linux servers boot on tens of millions of machines of probably millions of unique hardware configurations using the same kernel, and since they are both running touchwiz the HAL (the primary differentiator between Android and traditional linux) will be identical
Your primary limitations with this is the locked bootloader, and the fact that apparently custom rom devs do things that require specific kernels. Since you can't boot a custom kernel, it may prove difficult. I havent tried so I can't say for sure
Hahaha right. Go ahead and listen to this guy. Flash F firmware and let us know how it goes.
Hello friends!
I'm considering upgrading to a SGS8 and before making a purchase I need your help confirming what I should look for if I want to have an unlocked bootloader in order to install whatever ROM I please ans be free from Samsung's tyrany.
Please tell me if im wrong or missing something here when looking for one of these on Amazon:
-Model: SM-G950F or SM-G950FD (This is because these models came to the market with the "OEM unlock" option under dev settings and they have an Exynos chip)
-Running stock Android Nougat 7.0
-Bootloader version: ??
Got it right? Thanks for your help!!!!

Nobody here will guarantee anything probably, and neither do I, but I'd say that what you wrote sounds good.
You can send it back within 30 days with Amazon anyway
thanks mate, just looking forward an educated piece of advice from someone versed on the whole story and current dev state about this phone =)
I understand there is a whole bunch of models SM-G9500, SM-G950F, SM-G950FD, SM-G950U, SM-G950U1, SM-G950W, SM-G950N....
Some Snapdragon, some Exynos...
I understand its best to go for an Exynos one, and among those the SM-G950F, SM-G950FD.... perhaps someone can tell me why is that or correct me?
F & FD are same. They use the same firmware.
The only difference is FD version has hybrid sim slot (2 sim or 1 sim + sd card).
Whereas F version has 1 sim + sd card option only.

Definitely go for an exynos version. Go for a G950F/FD. What these people said is correct, FD is dual SIM version. they are unlocked international versions with unlocked bootloaders. There is quite a lot of development ongoing for these devices.
