[Q] AXON 7 Video recording - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi everybody, I'm almost ready to buy a A2017G, I've read lot of impressions and reviews and I'm 99% convinced.
Mi biggest doubt is about the camera, first of all about the video recording, watching this comparative test between Axon 7 and S7 Edge:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ni3pb7UwwJU
is more then clear that the Axon 7 video results to be not stabilized and present a very slow autofocus, what are the owners impression about it?
Thanks.
Slán!

Camera is better then ok. I make videos of my children all the time. Videos are nice. But if you compare it to Samsung it can not win. Samsung is known to be the best in camera department. This video is 1 year old . With updates the camera got a lot better. You won't be disappointed...

I agree, with good light camera perform really good, and it 's almost at the level as Samsung. In low light that's where you see the difference.

Time to say goodbye and look to the Galaxy K Zoom

As one of the first to own one of these cameras on launch day, I have been pretty much promoting it everywhere and certainly contributed a lot in these and other similar forums. But as time has passed it's evident that Samsung has no love for this first edition as they have failed to keep it updated. Even the second edition offers little improvement, just a slight memory increase and minor CPU increase,it still runs Jelly Bean. It's a real shame as these two had so much potential.
The Galaxy Camera takes superb photo's but the interface lags and the start up is slow and it lacks so much that Kit-Kat could fix. Then there's the various scene modes found on the Galaxy S4 and S5 that aren't available on this capable camera.
So.. I recently played around with a Galaxy S4 Zoom and apart from only having 10x zoom rather than 21x and slightly smaller screen the whole experience seemed better. Which prompted me to look at the upcoming GALAXY K ZOOM. Released this week in the UK sporting a 20.7MP camera, better connectivity, double the ram, faster processor, much better battery life, Xenon and LED flash, NFC, many more scene choices, Android 4.4.2 and a lot more specs too many to mention... all in a lighter smaller chassis, and all for £360 (and includes a case thrown in for pre-orders worth £20) means I am done with the Galaxy Camera and today I have ordered the K Zoom.
I hope things for you guys improve, but I wouldn't be holding my breath sadly.
So, farewell Galaxy Camera forum, it's been nice knowing you.
I want to order a Galaxy K Zoom to try in the US but I'm not able to buy one because they won't ship to US. You'll have to let us know how it is.

21x optical zoom with 16mp is much better than 20mb with 10x optical zoom.
Also now that the galaxy cam 2 is rootable, It's a pretty awesome, snappy camera

It is, but I need a pocketable camera that can also make and receive phone calls and is much more likely to be updated by Samsung. The original camera was once snappy but it just failed to be updated making it sluggish and buggy. The pictures I have seen taken from the K Zoom are just as impressive as my GC1
I am receiving it tomorrow and will post up a small review here.

So, I got the Galaxy K Zoom yesterday and my first impressions are WOW! It has far exceeded my expectations in many ways.
The build quality is really good, it feels solid and it looks really nice (I have the black one). I thought the screen might be sub standard being only 720p but it really is sharp and bright and although super AMOLED the colours are not saturated at all. They have got the balance right in my opinion and the size is right too. It doesn't feel particularly bulky or heavy and the casing is grippy.
I didn't have a lot of time but I did a quick comparison test with photographs taken from it in the same spot with my Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Galaxy Camera. I have to say the shots on the K Zoom at 10x optical were on a par with the Galaxy Camera and better than the S4 Zoom. I also tried 20x zoom that's 10 optical +10x digital and the results were far better than I expected, actually they were great. Low light level shots came out better than the Galaxy Camera as did the video recording.
There are tons of scene modes and not forgetting the excellent AF/AE mode – This lets you choose separate parts of the picture to act as exposure metering and focus points. The only thing missing oddly enough is the tilt shift (or selective focus) as seen on the S5, I am not sure why that wasn't included. I also thought there was mean't to be an LED flash in addition to the Xenon, for video use but that's missing and there's no notification LED. But no great loss.
But overall, it a massive improvement over the S4 Zoom and it's definitely good enough to replace the Galaxy Camera. It's pocketable, has full mobile phone function, better screen, battery life, interface and Android Kit-Kat on board. Missing only a tripod mount (I bought a JOBY grip tight to solve this) and that extra 10x zoom.
I have only been using it for a day but I am bowled over. I have no regrets replacing the Galaxy Camera with this baby.
Photos? Of the phone/camera and from the camera?

Fore 21x optical zoom to 10x seems like a poor trade off for enhanced features else where. Anyways I'm glad most of the market share your opinion because it enabled me to pick up the galaxy camera 2 for 200 bucks cheaper!

No not yet, I will give it a few weeks firstly in case any OTA upgrades come along (likely as it is a new device) and secondly when a suitable root method is found. There's little information on rooting this at the moment.

Haha, I already own a Note 3 - its camera isn't bad in my opinion but the K zoom is miles ahead of course!
The KZ is not showing any lag so far, battery life is incredible. I spoke to another owner who said he got 700 pics taken in one day before battery died. Now that's awesome. I will post some pics here soon.

Note3 cam is very unrealistic its acceptable only under strong sunlight ... It has a very bad dynamic range too.. With a very high contrast ratio. Not to mention rediculous low light images even with flash on the images are so grainy and the least movement makes it blurry.
I have s4 zoom too .. But stupidity I blowed air into the cam to remove dust it sadly stucked in between the lens and makes visible gray dots all over the image not to mention how laggy it becomes after installing viber facebook twitter and whatsapp
Am ready to swap with the Kzoom when its released in my country.

I bought my K Zoom today in Hong Kong.. this thing is amazing. I would say NEXT version Samsung will nail it and make it perfect.. but this is a huge improvement over all the previous variants of Samsung's camera/phone combined.. can't compare. The only thing this needs to be perfect in my opinion, aside from snappier processing because this "6 core thing" is all hype and few punch, is a smaller zoom because 10x is not necessary and too bulky, and a larger sensor.. from the few snapshots I've taken today low light performance is still just soso. But I must say under good lighting conditions the image quality is fantastic and the optical quality of the zoom lens itself is extremely good. I will try to upload some photos later or tomorrow.. And needless to say I am eager for recovery and root as this has some serious limitations till then and endless bloatware that needs out..

[Video Review] Xiaomi RedMi Note 2 with camera sample downloads

Hi all,
I've had my Xiaomi RedMi Note 2 for a while now and thought I would share my video review and hands on unboxing videos:
Unboxing:
Hands-on gaming, benchmarks, thoughts, opinions.
Overall this is definitely one of the best bang for you buck mobile phones around. The Mediatek 6795 Helio X10 runs great and the GPU is fastest enough for even the most demanding games. LTE/4G is crazy fast for me, I had never got 75mbps speeds before, not even on my LG G4. which caps at around 50mbps for me. The screen looks great and there isn't much to not like on this mobile. The 13MP camera is good in anything but low light and macros come out amazing (see my samples). What I find disappointing is the sound on video and in lower light the video frame rate drops below 30fps. Indoor low light shots are very average.
The phone has now been passed on to my wife and she loves it, complete overkill for her needs. MIUI also might not be for everyone. And the build is very plastic and cheap feeling compared to metal framed phones. I got it from GearBest here: http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_229217.html
Day video sample (1080p):
Sunset (1080p):
Night video (1080p)
Camera samples:
Like on my Note 4 I get over 120 Mbit/s over LTE but Wifi, GPS and 2G/3G/4G is 2-3 times better than on my Note 4. Sometimes I can't belive this.

The foliage looks really washed out on those samples, was it windy or does it really do such a poor job? The rest of the samples seem really decent for the price.

It was windy and low light in some of the later shots. Low light pictures are not good at all.
I think that lack of optical stabilization makes video recording really bad. I think that the quality is descent, but the everything is kind of up and down all the time, a little cranky.....

Nope. There's no other settings for slow mo.

Definitely I have a G4 and now a Note 5, I miss OIS, even DIS would help out here. The quality is good, but the audio is a bit washed out. But still for a $165 dollar mobile it's decent.
Hi,
could you test HEVC encoding capabilities for us, it's a little tricky, only "CINEMA FV5" app could support HEVC encoding for the moment, and if you can test [email protected] and [email protected] and Manual Focus as well it will be great, thanks in adavance
Very nice review and some of the only slow motion footage on youtube, thanks! :good:

Camera Quality

Hi there,
I just got my Honor 7 from vmall, and i dont know if the camera quality is what I expected.
Until now I have been using a nexus 4, that have a very poor quality camera, so i expected that nowadays devices would have a much better quality. I feel honor camera is quite bad, but I cannot compare with other 2014-2015 phones.
For instance, wich famous terminal have similar quality camera? Lg g3? S4? S5? Iphone 5?
Im considering get back my money and try to find another phone with the budget even the only things Im worried about with Honor 7 is camera, lack of NFC, and roms community.
I wait for your opinions!!
Regards,
Can you post some samples
The camera on the Honor 7 is very good, but not the best. You will only get a better camera on a couple of other phones. Perhaps you are expecting too much, in what way is the camera bad?
Here, photo from my Galaxy S6:
http://i.imgur.com/mw2hK6t.jpg
versus honor 7:
http://i.imgur.com/ZrV2rjl.jpg
You do know that it is set to 10 mp default and settling it to 15 mp will get you a lot more detail? 20 mp is 3:4 and not realy usable as in most phone cameras with the highest res.
I think it is a very good camera, but I will boost saturation by 1, same as with the P8.
Yes, I am aware
You may as well use 20MP and crop because that's all the 15MP mode does. At least then you may decide not to crop and get more detail.
I agree with the OP, I feel the image quality is quite poor (lack of sharpness and more than normal image noise)considering its meant to have a decent camera. I came from a HTC ONE M8 and i thought that was a bad camera, but that one seems to produce better quality pictures than the Honor 7. Does anyone think it could be a software (firmware) bug as many users are saying that their picture quality is very good.
In good light, it's fine. It also seems to get the exposure settings right in low light but then saves a really grainy photo that looks terrible under close scrutiny.
I'm sure the algorithms can be tweaked, but I'm still waiting for any update. Still on B100!
Totally agree with your description.
Motorola style and sony experia has the same sensor, i hope we could port their app.
Slow motion camera is also really bad...
Also there is so many people with chinese versions, thats why i would like to try in european version, but i dont know how to do it, is there some help about how to try safely chinese rom on european device?
Well, considering this is a phone which only cost me 209 GBP (less than EUR 300) I really think the camera is excellent. Very fast focus and quite good picture quality.
Comparing it to a S6 is in my opinion the same as comparing a Casio watch to a Breitling.
BTW I also have a Z1 Compact which I believe has the same sensor and I can´t see much of a difference.
i know it only cost £209 for most people, but the camera is supposed to be a good one. many people are reporting that they are getting very good quality pictures and some, including myself, report that the pictures saved are very grainy, therefore im hoping that its a firmware/software issue. I have updated the phone to the latest b121 firmware and can confirm that the camera picture quality is still noisy.
Yes, I've updated too and I Think that The camera is not a 20mpx...it's too noise.

There can, in my opinion, be little doubt that the camera in the Honor 7 is the Sony IMX230 f/2.0 aperture 6-lens module. This module has a 20 mpx sensor.
Is it possible they use diferent sensors?
Samsung did it in s5 I think

Just, none of that makes any sense.
Picture quality is fine. In fact, it's better than I expected really.

Well, quite strange,
In my opinion camera isn't good as honor and some people say. I think our perception isn't same. For me, quality is lower then g3 lg and samsumg s5 for instance. I know the price isn't high, but that's not the point, for me is about is the quality is good as they say as that's what buyers take to make their decision for buy it.
Regards,
If the noise bothers you reduce resolution in the settings. I find the camera acceptabel though not as good as the P8 (13 mpx!) as this one has OIS.
What res do the s5 and g3 have?
Skickat från min PLK-L01 via Tapatalk
The point is not about resolution, as that parameter is linked with the megapixels at sensor.
I about image quality. That is my concern.

What's the camera quality like in the newer Nexuses (Nexii?)

Hi,
A few years ago the cameras on the nexus were average to below average, I'm wondering if it has greatly imrpoved since then? It's the only thing stopping me from getting a nexus.
Thanks
? I would suggest checking the reviews and looking at the photos thread.
One of the first things that get called out is the improved camera quality.

The camera is very good, it takes some take outstanding photos. As the other person pointed out you can check the online reviews, and we have a photo thread in the general section.
I think both cameras are AMAZING! Ive went through s6 edge plus..iphone 6s plus..lg v10..and now nexus 6p. Front camera is really good and rear is amazing! I was bummed about no OIS+ but i havent had a problem and there is video stabilization i guess.
Excellent rear camera for sure! HDR+, Burst, etc.
Nexii cams used to be garbage, for sure, but that is NOT the case now.
Sure, the 6p might not have the best cam, but it's a solid competitor with everything available in a phone right now.
The camera is excellent for both photos and video in my experience. I'm very happy I got away from Samsung. Highly recommended.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Good apart from lack of OIS.
The camera is amazing. Detail, auto focus, HDR+, video is all amazing. But the 2 most impressive things to me by far are the low light photos and the zoom. Granted I'm coming from an s4, but the zoom is actually usable on this phone. The noose is minimal, focus is still pretty good. I was taking among pictures in a dark concert, zoomed in, no flash and they came out extremely well. You won't be disappointed.

The Mi 5s lacks of OIS

What do you think about that? Is that really important? My hands are very shaky tough, I have a z1 compact now, and I can't really get clear photos at night.

I have the original MI 5 and now I can't imagine life without OIS....
Night pictures are significantly better, video shooting, when held by hand is better, and overall photo blurriness is lower.
However the dual cameras have some advantages too, like on the huawei P9, but as seen on the redmi pro, xiaomi hasn't done much to make the second camera count...
The MI 5s is a better phone than the MI5 as hardware goes, but imho the dual camera setup is just a gimmick for now
Why would they omitt ois on the regular 5s? So the mi5 had it?
Mi5 regular has it yes
Are you 100% sure, the normal 5s (not the 5s plus) lacks OIS?

I wouldn't completely agree on this. The combination of colour and BW sensor produces better night time photos, as BW sensor is much more sensitive and when combined with colour info from the other sensor it can produce a better overall image in challenging lighting conditions. If they've implemented photo app as they should, results should actually be better.

What's interesting is that Google Pixel with the same IMX378 (without OIS) competes with the iPhone 7, thanks to its software engine. I am thinking... it could be possible to import their engine to mi5S? It's something like camera app related or deeper?

Comparing it side to side one sees the difference, but looking at just MI5S it seems good just as well. I wouldn't worry too much. 5s uses Sony's sensor. A very good one.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
It depends if you make video in 4k or 2k. In 2k you have electrical image stabilizer (EIS) working, which is a help. In 4k you don't have it though. For photos it's also disabled.
As the Mi 5s (currently) runs on android 6 and the google Pixel on 7.1, there is no chance to port to image engine at the moment. Only time will tell if that changes in the future.
This is a deal breaker for me.
I really thought I found the perfect phone.
But seeing how shaky videos are, IDK what to do now...
In my country, the 5s is about 350e, it's new, not many are selling it yet.
But the 5 is about 260-280e and there are a few sellers.
I love the 1080p 120fps, but the lack of OIS on the 5s is killing me.
Should I get the regular Mi 5?
Should I just swallow the fact that the 5s doesn't have OIS?
I hear it's EIS but only for 1080p and only for video.
I've seen photos, I'm confident I won't mind in that area, but the 4k OIS, or lack of...
Do you guys think I'm making this too much of a problem when it's really not?
I was searching for the perfect phone that was also not too expensive. That doesn't charge for the name.
This is really making me sad... Almost had it.
Do you even have something that can play and display 4k videos? I don't, so I don't make any 4k videos in any case.

I do...
LG 4k OLED.
I paid big money for it. Would hate to see shaky video on such a nice TV.
Imagine sitting down with someone, watching videos from travelling or something, and seeing how shaky your phone camera is...
When I spend big money on electronics, I expect them to provide good quality.
However, I dislike spending money on brand name. That's why I don't want to spend x2 more on a phone by Samsung, or similar.
Xiaomi is 1 of those brands that doesn't really make you pay for the name.
My TV is different, since, when I bought it, it was 1 of a kind. Truly outstanding quality. OLED was exclusive to LG.
Also, my monitor is 4k.
That's why this is a deal breaker for me. The lack of OIS on Mi 5s.
And that's why I'm really torn apart, whether to get the Mi 5. It's older phone, but the CPU isn't that big of a difference. It's like 5% difference on energy savings.
However, the bigger pixel size, looks to be good and photos are better, even without OIS and even in low light, on the Mi 5s.
Still don't know what to do.
I anyway wouldn't film with my mobile, for that I have a camera which also has built in zoom function But I know what you mean.
The Mi 5 is also a good phone, also it's only a bit older than 7 months, which is still very new. You might want to check out the new Oneplus 3T or Meizu phones, maybe they have an OIS.

I feel the same, I'm happy with 2K EIS.
Maybe a clever Dev will find a way to unlock EIS on 4K, it sounds very possible.
I feel many people are waiting for the grey version to become available again, once they have shipped we should see more development for this device.
