Hi all,
My system was working fine with Magisk v12, I saw there was a big new update, I was interested and updated.
But using the latest Magisk Manager, it says root is not detected.
It's not a big problem, I will restore back to v12 for now, but did anyone else get it working?
Thanks
Asus zenfone 2 flash update manual Magisk 13.1 crash recovery recovery then AD
Same here with Xperia XZ. With v13.1 Root is not detected. v12 is working fine.
Have tried to reinstall it by completely removing and flashing from TWRP, but still no luck.
13.1 and 13.2 working on 7.1 with repacked stock kernel with drmfix fix. It will also work with newest genesis kernel
I upgraded Magisk 12 to 13 beta, then 13.1 and 13.2 without problems.
Even SafetyNet Check passes.
I'm using genesis-nodrm kernel.
Hmm... I was on back on v12, everything fine, I see the 2 above posts saying it is working.
So I flashed 13.2 in TWRP, installed the latest manager app, but still 'magisk not installed', 'not rooted'.
2 say it works with genesis, 1 of them say also with stock...
For me with stock, it's not working.

Did you try to flash a clean boot.img first so magisk 12 is completely uninstalled instead of flashing back and forth over the same boot.img. Pretty sure I read people on different devices sometimes had to do this, or use the magisk uninstaller. Flashing the clran boot.img first is ofc preferred.

Ok I'll try that.
I believe I flashed v13.2 straight over v12.
But when downgrading back to 12, I did flash the uninstaller first.
I'll try uninstalling and then updating
- Still no luck, it didn't work.
I tried updating Magisk 12 -> 13.1 thru the manager, and it would download the zip then do nothing. I found the zip in the Magisk directory, and installed it like it was a module, thru the manager, and it appeared to work. I got the new Magisk Manager (5.0.4) and it says I'm on Magisk 13.1 but that Magisk is not installed, and there is no root.
Following the installation instructions, I rebooted a few times, no change. So I flashed Magisk uninstaller, cleared cache/davlik, and rebooted. Uninstalled Magsick Manager. Rebooted. Booted to TWRP and flashed Magisk-13.1.zip. Rebooted twice. Same issues; Manager 5.0.4 says I'm on Magisk 13.1 but that it's not installed, no root.
Finally I had to flash Magisk uninstall, reboot, uninstall magisk manager. Reboot TWRP, flash magisk-12 installer, reboot, sideload magisk manager v4.3.3, just to get Magisk 12 back.

I didn't have to reboot after flashing magisk uninstaller, I just flashed v12 straight after.
And I just uninstalled the new magisk manager then the old one right away, I think?
Magisk manager 13.1 not working for me either tried installing thru app but it does not work
might be related to this https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/issues/265
Also it might be related to this - https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/issues/166#issuecomment-298765812
"Use rootkernel tool from tobias.waldvogel to fix drm instead of PoC TA fix. It seems to be incompatible to Magisk while rootkernel tool patched images work"
I swapped over to Genesis kernel (1.05, the current latest) to try and see if it would help my device pass safety net, since for some reason it is not passing anymore (I tried lots to fix it, flashing etc)
As I posted directly above, it looks like Magisk v13 doesn't like ta_poc, so I used the drmfix version, and Magisk v13.3 works great, and once again my device passes safety net
I have fullmics rom (not sure if that matters) with Magisk installed.
Magisk needs updating, but I just can't figure out how to do it and feel like an idiot now.
In Magisk manager, I press install, go through the confirmation dialogue and then choose "patch boot image file" (I've already downloaded the zip).
I then need to choose a file from that zip to patch the boot image, but I don't have a clue which one to choose. I've tried a few that I guessed could work but no luck and the update process is not self explanatory unfortunately....
The strange thing is that the Magisk manager now also says that Magisk is not installed an the phone is not rooted. Did this break because of the failed update, or is the update failing because I somehow lost root? How can I get Magisk back on my phone, it was part of the installation process with fullmics. Should I dirty flash fullmics again to get magisk reinstalled?
I ended up making a back up in twrp as a precaution before moving on to re-flashing magisk. Strangely enough after rebooting (but before re-flashing magisk) magisk was fine again and also had root back.
No idea what had broken but obviously a simple reboot fixed it.
Hi all,
I followed the guide to update a rooted device but it didn't work I lost root. But even after flashing magisk 17, 18 and 18.1 I still can't get root.
Any advice or tips? Are you having the same problem?
Do you have the Magisk Manager app installed?

That is another strange thing... I don't see the app, but when I want to install it again it says 'Do you want to install the update...' [emoji848] and that fails... [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848]
Sometimes when you reboot the phone it appears

Any update? I seem in same boat ...on 9.0.12, some root apps work (torbot, liveboot) but AdAway says not rooted. Malwarebytes says rooted. Su command in terminal gets denied.....
This
Blows
As far as magisk manager it disappeared and apk install fails....
Sometimes magisk manager can get hung up in the update and then it doesn't want to let you in. Force stop, and see if i will let you in. Didn't work for me but you never know. I had to get it to where it was refusing to install the update, then while that was up go to settings where I could see it in my apps and uninstall it. Then I just installed it again, DLed the boot image, had magisk patch it, flashed it. The image and instructions are around here somewhere.
Was able to uninstall manager by using settings>apps but still cannot install magiskmanager and reroot attempt still no good. Still stuck.

No dice.
And originally I did.
Flashed Magisk uninstaller
Flashed OOS update
Flashed TWRP
Rebooted
Flashed Magisk....
No love
I did retry the Magisk uninstaller zip again since you brought it up...but no.
I've even tried the TWRP terminal Magisk module uninstaller to see what is there....only shows Magisk 18.1....which is only sort of there....
The Magisk Manager app must be installed separately from Magisk itself. The zip file does not install the app.

Resolved.
Backed up everything, did a factory reset
Booted via TWRP .img, reran 9.0.12 .zip via sideload,
Reinstalled TWRP
Rebooted into system
Rebooted into recovery
Installed magisk 18.1
Good to go.
When I try to install a module, it gives me a "data/magisk not setup properly" error. Please help.
I have tried reinstalling magisk and pressing on direct install again but it still doesn't work.

Is below that message, something asking you to update Magisk first?
If there isn't, well... Try to go Magisk Manager and check for updates, if there's any, just download and install them. Try again.
If there aren't, try to go XDA's Magisk thread, download Magisk uninstaller as well as flashable Magisk and Magisk Manager apk, both in their latest versions.
In case you've installed TWRP, Then reboot to Recovery and flash Magisk uninstaller... Just in case, flash TWRP again.
After that Reboot to Recovery once again and flash Magisk, then Reboot to System.
Then, in case you can't find Magisk Manager app, install it and update Magisk, this time from app itself.
Hi.
Yesterday my Snapchat got banned for third-party apps. Because I installed Riru core and Edexposed module and manager. It was working fine tho. But today I wanted to uninstall it, I couldn't uninstall it.
Until now, I've done;
-Removed riru core and edexposed from Magisk
-Uninstalled the Edexposed app
-Removed the files after searching from the File Manager and deleted those
But I think it's still not removed properly. My Magisk is showing both SafetyNet checks failed (basicIntegrity and ctsProfile). I also downloaded the uninstaller zip from the Edexposed manager but I don't know how to run that, it cannot be used on Magisk because it gives an error. I cannot also run from TWRP (can't find the file etc).
Can someone help me step by step how to remove it and then pass the Magisk safety check again.
Using the latest Magisk (20.4)
Manager (8.0.3)
Regards.
Grab and flash the EdXposed Uninstaller from here. You can also refer to this thread for more information.

I wasn't getting the TWRP manager from where we flash zip files, when I loaded into recovery there were few options and I chose, "install from internal storage" but it gave me an error. Then I thought of using "Install from ADB" I'm getting this error;

You could try flashing the magisk uninstaller zip and then reflashing magisk, see if that helps?

I renamed the file to something without spaces and then flashed, the "argument" error was gone and it tried to flash it.
Now I'm facing an error, "installation failed" I don't know why is that...
It's the same error when installed from internal storage (in recovery mode). When trying to flash from ADB, it's still giving the same error.
1. Did you try flashing magisk uninstaller?
2, Perhaps try flashing "Magisk Manager for Recovery" in TWRP, going to the terminal option in TWRP and typing mm. It should open up an interactive manager allowing you to make sure EdXposed is 100% uninstalled. If it isn't try following the on screen prompts to fully get rid of it or use the manager to boot your phone into "core only mode"

I'm afraid I didn't get you. Did you read my first post? That's the problem I'm facing.
Actually, when I try to flash Edexposed uninstaller zip from ADB, it gives me an error, "installation failed"
Thank you for NOT helping.
