US996 LG V20 root only? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I'm searching but can't seem to find a thread with root only instructions.
I'm not looking to unlock my bootloader. Just looking for root only so I can install adblock.
Is there an easy method for root only on the umlocked us996?

How would you know if you found it?
The US996 for the US Market has a bootloader that can be unlocked while the US996 from USCellular is network unlocked.
What dip**** came up with this naming convention?
I guess we just have to cross our fingers and start flashing blindly from now on?

Rooted Marshmallow for G-900V?

So, I have been looking through various threads and I still don't see any valid root method for Marshmallow on the Verizon G5. Does anyone know if we're close to it yet? or are we still a ways off?

You'll need to downgrade to lollipop and then root with Jkruse's batch file and if you have a 15 CID you can unlock the bootloader and flash a MM rooted ROM!

Axon Root without Unlock? And OTA?

Hey,
I have two questions about the Axon7 and rooting in general.
First is, if there is a possibility to root the Axon7 without an unlocked bootloader. Just need the root for some Apps (e.g. adaway).
The second is: if there is a possibility to root the Axon, will OTA Updates work or how do I get updates?
Thanks for your help.
Gebo
Nobody Knows and Nobody Knows, in that order. Really, there's a gazillion threads about this already.
I look for others threads and did not find one about this topic. They all discuss about bootloader. As far as I understood, bootloader is needed for CustomRom? I just need simple root.
And i also did not find a thread about root and OTA. If you can post me links to these topics please? If I can find my answers anywhere else, this can be closed. Thank youf

Well, you were able root without unlocked bootloader if there's a software exploit back in the day but those are very rare these day.
Lg GA was able to be rooted without an unlocked bootloader. Was even able to get a few roms loaded using an exploit.

Exploits that give you full, permanent root are becoming harder to achieve in recent Android versions.
I know that for the zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) there was untethered twrp, this was then used to flash SuperSU to the device granting root access BUT that was when it was released with Android 5.0 Lollipop...
Hopefully this can carried over to Marshmallow for the Zenfone 3, it might give us some hope too...
Depends how many Devs actually get this device....

Darn companies not wanting us to screw around with our devices! Lol I can see why they don't want us to in a way. I just want more customized options.

Did u unlock bootloader using this method?
mingkee said:
You can do this:
Make sure you backup your data with LG Backup to memory card.
Enable Developer Options (hit build numbers in about phone few times).
Enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging.
When hooking up with your host computer, check the phone screen to allow your host computer.
Open cmd
Locate your adb platform-tools folder
adb devices
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock (doing such will erase your phone)
fastboot getvar unlock
fastboot boot TWRP.img (if you have compatible TWRP)

I guess he's just priming the pump for the inevitable hundreds of threads asking if the bootloader is unlocked or the "HELP!!! I'VE BRICKED MY PHONE AND I CAN'T GET UP!!!" threads from the morons for whom reading is not fundamental.
Since the bootloader is unlocked, is it safe to assume at some point we will have root?
Are you able to use fastboot commands? Such as to write a new recovery img. After that getting root is usually a piece of cake.
Not sure if it's different in Nougat but I think with an unlocked bootloader it really is just a matter of time till we get what we want (root).
As a piece of reference on the T-Mobile G5 we were able to root the G5 only after getting a .TOT with TWRP as the recovery because T-Mobile had somehow removed all the fastboot commands on that device except fastboot OEM unlock. If that is the case with the V20 we need talk to @tungkick again to manufacture another .TOT for us again.

Yes I think so from my previous experience this is almost always the case.
With the V10 a user @tungkick created a .tot with root (SuperSU) patched into it. Then use LGUP to flash the .tot.
Once that is done flashing TWRP can be flashed using Flashfire by Chainfire.
Or instead of patching root maybe the .tot can be modified to have TWRP built in...?
Nvm...didnt read the previous comments.
Well. Someone in androiding.how is keeping track seems like it. According to what i read, quoting
"The root method for LG V20 will be a systemless root without doubt. Android Nougat comes with enhanced enforcing SELinux policy for better security on Android devices, so systemless root will be the way to go to get root access without compromising the device’s security."
So, if this is true, at least there is a path to follow.

Systemless root is almost becoming the default now. And if we have TWRP is pretty much just flashing the systemless root and that's it. In the recent past systemless root has not been a problem.

Confirmed: Fastboot flash commands do not work similar to T-Mobile LG G5. Successfully unlocked bootloader though so that is also confirmed for the 2nd time.

Need a root method for LG V20 AT&T

I'm wanting to update from a note 4 to the LG V20 but I don't need another phone I can't root... So is there anyone with a root out for this phone... I'm dying for a new phone with root capability... I would greatly appreciate it..
anyone? I have an ATT LGV20 and just want to know if I can root it somehow? Does it have to be "unlocked" first?

Look in the ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries & Other Developments. The AT&T variant is the H910 - so there is currently a bootloader unlock & root method available for it. (I have the H910 and am unlocked & rooted )
Twisted
I didn't think that the H910 was bootable yet. I don't see anything in the Roms section. Only stuff for the H918.
Edit
Actually I'm CONFIDENT that it isnt rootable yet!

I'm confident you need glasses
Root was obtained for the AT&T H910 a week ago and the thread is the most popular one in the roms section. So you need to look again, or do a search for "[LS997|VS995|H910|F800L] DirtySanta Bootloader unlock and Root guide"

I use the XDA app, and all I was able to see were H918 roms. I've heard of the DirtySanta unlock though, but wasn't aware that it was for the H910 now too. And if it's only a week old, then that's still brand new.

Root available

This is probably a stupid question, but searching has led me to conflicting information.
I'm looking to get a new phone, and right now I want the LG G6. I would like to have root access though.
I'm seeing a bunch of threads about no root being available, and we shouldn't hold our breath on getting it. But I'm also seeing that it's supposedly compatible with KingRoot and One Click Root?
I don't really care about custom firmware or anything, I just want to be able to get root access. I'm in Canada, getting it from Bell, but I don't know the exact model number or anything. Can anyone confirm either way?

Only the US997 and the European H870 (sim free) can unlock the bootloader and then obtain root access, other models atm can't
Also Kingoroot and One Click Root don't work, obviously
