Root available - LG G6 Questions and Answers

This is probably a stupid question, but searching has led me to conflicting information.
I'm looking to get a new phone, and right now I want the LG G6. I would like to have root access though.
I'm seeing a bunch of threads about no root being available, and we shouldn't hold our breath on getting it. But I'm also seeing that it's supposedly compatible with KingRoot and One Click Root?
I don't really care about custom firmware or anything, I just want to be able to get root access. I'm in Canada, getting it from Bell, but I don't know the exact model number or anything. Can anyone confirm either way?

Only the US997 and the European H870 (sim free) can unlock the bootloader and then obtain root access, other models atm can't
Also Kingoroot and One Click Root don't work, obviously

Axon Root without Unlock? And OTA?

Hey,
I have two questions about the Axon7 and rooting in general.
First is, if there is a possibility to root the Axon7 without an unlocked bootloader. Just need the root for some Apps (e.g. adaway).
The second is: if there is a possibility to root the Axon, will OTA Updates work or how do I get updates?
Thanks for your help.
Gebo
Nobody Knows and Nobody Knows, in that order. Really, there's a gazillion threads about this already.
I look for others threads and did not find one about this topic. They all discuss about bootloader. As far as I understood, bootloader is needed for CustomRom? I just need simple root.
And i also did not find a thread about root and OTA. If you can post me links to these topics please? If I can find my answers anywhere else, this can be closed. Thank youf

Well, you were able root without unlocked bootloader if there's a software exploit back in the day but those are very rare these day.
Lg GA was able to be rooted without an unlocked bootloader. Was even able to get a few roms loaded using an exploit.

Exploits that give you full, permanent root are becoming harder to achieve in recent Android versions.
I know that for the zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) there was untethered twrp, this was then used to flash SuperSU to the device granting root access BUT that was when it was released with Android 5.0 Lollipop...
Hopefully this can carried over to Marshmallow for the Zenfone 3, it might give us some hope too...
Depends how many Devs actually get this device....

Darn companies not wanting us to screw around with our devices! Lol I can see why they don't want us to in a way. I just want more customized options.

Rooting Galaxy S5

Hey All:
This may be redundant, but I'm having a hell of a time rooting my friend's Galaxy S5. I've got "developers options" on the phone, but every app I've D/l to the phone has failed to root it.
Here's the phone's SPECS : model no# SMG900A build no# MMB29M.G900AUCS4DPH4. I just now gave him a SDD micro card to install. What do I have to do to get his phone rooted? Oh, have NOT tried to root phone via a PC. HEEEEELLLPPPPP!!!

G900A cannot be rooted
usmanmalik:
One should KNOW what he/she is talking about prior to replying. FACT: You most certainly CAN root a GalaxyS5. Just look at all the video/websites explaining how to do so. My problem is finding an app that will "root" straight from the phone. I may have to use a PC to accomplish root, but rest assured, it CAN be accomplished

most of us do know what we're talking about, you? idk.
by saying a galaxy s5 can be rooted assumes you know that there are no variants, sad to say there are.
the s5 SM-G900A is att version, locked bootloader, its the s5 no one supposed to buy, its a pia. owners of the SM-G900A are sol.
read this on latest rooting effort for the SM-G900A https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/guide-merry-christmas-heres-t3516196
did i mention the g900a is a pia to its owners wanting root? gl
Vincon:
I typed in said model and was directed to many sites that, according to those sites, could/would root via using a PC. This is in direct contradiction to your reply. Now, I'll have to keep 'researching" and actually see what's going on. Just curious...why would this particular model be the ONLY one that wouldn't root. I'll be sure to check on the "complaints" registered by the owners of the G900A.

ask AT&T, thats the way they ordered their phones which is the g900a.
the g900a is spec'd only to AT&T, there is also another variant thats also locked iirc.
read the link i posted as it seems its the most upto date root info for the g900a at the moment afaik.
the g900f is the one u want and its cousins, the g900w8(mine) is one of them, known mostly as international, these 2 models have unlocked bootloaders making it very easy to root via pc, idk about an app rooting though especially for 6.0.1
many do come w/unlocked bootloaders but not the g900a as thats the way the carriers(AT&T) ordered them w/locked bootloaders.
Since reading the link you posted, I'm not sure what you're trying to convey. Reading the link seems to indicate it can be rooted! (?) I did note that it said it wouldn't 'persist", but in the 'replies" one person stated he/she did get it to work? OK, at best, we are going through hosts of opposing and controversial statements? Could it be that by now, there is a viable 'root" for this phone? Also, I did see where some 'downgraded" in order to root. Not sure I'd do that...especially since it's not my phone. Anyways, seems this model will command much more of my attention than I first thought. I've rooted phones before and was "spoiled" by the simplicity. Never run into anything remotely similar to this.

im trying to convey is that its a pia to deal w/the g900a because of its locked bootloader as you must of assumed reading that link i gave you, and that is the most upto date info on rooting the g900a and afaik no root possible for 6.0.1 mm as i just quickly read through some of the posts in that link.
what youve read on the internet on rooting the g900"A" as easy is either old, false, inaccurate etc.
Bootloader is Unlocked?
You try to flash TWRP Recovery using odin?
https://dl.twrp.me/klte/
(If any problem, You can download latest firmware for G900A in your region, Unpack with 7-ZIP the Recovery from firmware file and flash via TWRP)
And Flash SuperSu via TWRP?

Im searching up ways and it all doesnt seem to not work out.

Unless you have an unlocked bootloader there is nothing you can do about it unfortunately.

Apps for root exploits?????

Hello everyone and I have a few quick questions. I will admit first that I am still using my AT&T Galaxy S5 and have been doing so for 4 years. I've recently been thinking about a new phone, and needing one since my battery sucks now. So, I'm looking at the Note9. On my S5 I was able to get a form of root access through an app named TowelRoot. I know I can't get full root on an AT&T phone but are there any other apps or workarounds to allow SU abilities on the Note9? My other questions is if there is not a way to get SU abilities, is there a version of Xposed, TB or anything similar that doesn't require root/SU to use the Xposed modules? Pardon if I overlooked threads with possible answers but I wanted to ask for any insight and or information. Thank you much.

Unfortunately no, they have their phones locked down. However you can get a Chinese variant, or international variant and get full root.

Ah man, that sucks. Thank you for the information and I'll try to figure out something soon.
What changed is that now there is something called secure boot that checks for root on startup so even if a app can root it wouldn't boot so its pointless so they stopped being developed
In case you haven't seen this thread yet, there is hope.

LS99720a - Any way to root JUST for deleted file recovery? Don't need other stuff.

Title. I no longer use this phone but I would _love_ to be able to get deleted stuff off of it. I did this in the past with my old LG G3 and never had any issues like this phone has with getting to root. I tried it when I first got the phone, tried it a year later. never worked. Now trying 3 yrs lol. Is there anything I can do or am I SOL?
@Phoenix591 already answered this for you on Reddit. I don't know what else to tell you.
Original Reddit post for anyone else who is reading
Thats an Oreo version, and so is past the point of no return. It's unrootable. Tiny electronic fuses have been physically burned to prevent it from booting rootable firmware.
As I mentioned the last version that has the ability to return to a rootable version was ZV7 (the actually rootable versions were ZV5 or earlier, however LS997 did updates weird which ment that firmware wasn't available to flash using the same tools other models use... If on ZV6 or ZV7 its possible to root by crossflashing another model's firmware briefly ) , which was a few updates before oreo came out.

Unfortunately, the LS997 ended up being more limited than the other carrier-specific models. However, root access is getting harder to come by on new carrier-specific devices in general.
