4K HDR camera mod without root? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello all. I'm getting my S8+ from the BOGO tomorrow. I wanted to know if there was a way to install the camera mod without root, or if there is a 3rd party camera that does this. My last Samsung was an S4 which didn't work well with updates after root/recovery.
On that note, can I just root without recovery to install the mod?
And unrelated, looking at getting the flip LED case. Does that protect well from drops? Doesn't look like it would. Other thought was a lens case I saw on Amazon, but looks like an inexpensive import thing so not sure.

You need root to install that mod, and if you're getting the snapdragon version there is no root for it at all.

Right, but can I root without recovery? I don't want to risk tripping Knox like my S4 did. I want to install updates as soon as Samsung releases them.

Knox will be tripped if you root the phone this way or that way.

Oh. I didn't think it would complain about a simple root. Guess I can't adb this either? Damn.

False. Root does not trip Knox. Only bootloader

this is simply not true.root 100% will trip knox. there is no way to root and not trip knox.

False.
Sorry but you are all mistaken.

S8 now has a root method that does not trip Knox.
This isn't the only device that can be rooted without Knox trip as well IIRC (but I don't remember which)

This is ONLY for the Snapdragon version (From US, not China) and it uses Samsung signed permissive and ENG firmware. You also can't charge the phone past 80% with this firmware (Devs working on fixing that) and while it doesn't trip Knox, it will make it useless until you flash full stock back.

I meant ND3, just a typo i guess. Anyway, i also included that you check Towelroot's requirements. I won't do that for you. Your phone you decide.

Personally used Towelroot. Did not trip Knox, stayed 0x0. After custom recov was installed then that tripped my knox counter, best decision ever. Now i'm flashing away custom roms. You're lucky having an early KK that could actually use TR. Some people who updated KK have to go through a process just to use TR and not trip knox.

Note 4 firmware change possible ?

Hoi to all,
is it possible, to change my firmware, from N910FXXU1ANK4 to N910FPNH1ANK2_PNH ?
What wil happend with the Knox Warranty Void ?
Now i have a Vodafone rom(stock) on it, and i want to go to the PNH rom (stock)
It's not the first time for my to flash, just asking because i not sure about this.
Hopefully that someone, gives a positive feedback.
PS. sorry for my bad English, I come from the Netherlands.
Cool I'm from the Netherlands too. Here in the Netherlands only dynafix is repairing samsung and i have send several samsung devices with knox triggered to them without problems.
Debranding is always possible, but I'm not sure about knox. I always root my phone so knox is already triggered on my n4 else i could try it out for you

As long as they are both for your model (N910F) you should be fine, and if you encounter problems you can always reflash the stock firmware with Odin
Thanks for the quick reply.
It is better to speak/write English here
Hope that someone can answer my question, about the Knox
And that i can go to N910FPNH1ANK2_PNH from Vodafone.

Yes: you can flash the PHN-firmware WITHOUT triggering KNOX (because it's official firmware)...
You can download, fast, the update file here (MegaNZ) and install it with Odin 3.0.9
Henk,
Thanks for the nice answer
Also downloaded the file from your link.
Flashing is in process

If you flash OFFICIAL FIRMWARE, KNOX will NEVER triggered!
If you flash CUSTOM firmware, and eventually ROOT your device, the chance is very high that KNOX will be triggered!

PingPong Root?

Does PingPong Root work on the S5 or is it S6 only?
Mate, you've asked the same question over and over, even PMd me asking, you've been told that CF Auto Root will work, no need to keep asking the same thing
Root with CF Auto Root, job done
Ignore firmware numbers, it works for Lollipop

I know it does mate. It's just that this method sounds easier and doesn't void KNOX as far as I'm aware. I know that cf-auto-root will but if there's an easier method that doesn't void it for all intensive purposes I might as well use it.
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app
There is no root method for Lollipop that does not void warranty, you will always have 0x1 KNOX rooting Lollipop

it is possible to perform root in s5 without changing the knox. you can perform the downgrad for kitkat 4.4.2 where the towelroot. lembarando you should use the stock rom otherwise your knox will be changed!
Hello!
Can you share a tutorial to have root lollipop with knox 0x0?
I have a kitkat g900M.

Downgrade from non upgraded 5.0 to 4.4.2 - G900W8

As the topic suggest, I bought a G900W8 brand new with 5.0 installed.
Not sure if downgrading to 4.4.2 is at all possible, especially since the people at Samsung said I couldn't
But I figured i'd try and see if anyone here knows if this will trip knox flasing with Odin
I have downloaded the 4.4.2 for telus rom from sammobile and waiting to see for any input

I downgraded my s5 from 5.0 to 4.4.2 via odin without tripping knox, so i don't see why it would trip for you.
You can flash any stock Samsung ROM without tripping KNOX
Only time KNOX will trip is if you flash anything Custom

Strange, even if you hit the Edit pencil button?
Might be worth trying one of these Data toggle widgets

Yep, even after hitting the edit pencil. Toggles don't seem to work on Android 5 because of a security hole plugged. Which is why I was curious about downgrading because I hear it's available in 4.4.2,but worried about tripping KNOX since this my first new phone in years, didn't want to risk voiding my warranty yet

Is there any chance that an oreo update will make knox 0x0 again ??

hi all. Is there any chance that an oreo update will make knox 0x0 again ?? I am asking this becouse u know what problems does the warranty void. i installed from odin uk btu version of official sam firmware and have access to updates but hardly passed through the s health problem. i searched for solutions but only hope is if oreo will do any trick. so please if anyone has any info about that reply
Forget about it. Once tripped there is no way to reset Knox.
Nope, knox will not be restored by a firmware upgrade. Do not get your hopes up. It isn't being restored in the Oreo betas aswell.
I think the only way that knox could be restored is due to a mistake by Samsung

No. I won't say 100% but 98. Some one may crack it today tomorrow or in 10p years but do not get your hopes up
knox is hardware based. 99.99999999% uncrackable
No. Knox trigger it's physical and not a software solution. It's an fuse on your phone mainboard. It's literally a physical damage. No software update will fix it
the only way to reset it is by changing out the main board or repairing the fuse that is blown out.

Good luck with that. That e-fuse is located inside SoC.
And about replacing the mainboard... One should pay for a new mainboard, probably spending some money to pay someone to replace it in order to avoid being needed to pay to repair another defect? Does it sounds logical to you?
A motherboard for S8 costs £320-360. Plus another 50ish quid for labour. Would take you to £370-410. You can buy another S8 with those money
